[KERNEL][OC] Arc Stock O/C Kernel 1.86GHz For 3.0.1.A.0.145 & 1.65Ghz For 4.0.A.2.368 - Xperia Arc Android Development

[KERNEL][OC] Arc Stock O/C Kernel 1.86GHz For 3.0.1.A.0.145 & 1.65Ghz For 4.0.A.2.368
I modified acpuclock-7x30.c for overclock and compiled the stock kernel in 3.0.1.A.0.145_146_148
The kernel seems work for me.
just follow this post from DooMLoRD to flash boot.img (and if anything goes wrong you can back to stock kernel)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116970
I am not responsible for any damage or injury caused by this kernel, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
acpuclock-7x30.zip is the source code that I modified. You won't need it if you only want to flash kernel.
boot.zip has max 1.86GHz and will boot at max 1.86GHz
boot_new.zip has max 1.86GHz and will boot at max 1GHz (Thanks to DooMLoRD!)
boot_lower_v2.zip has max 1.78GHz and fewer frequency also boot at max 1GHz. This should be more stable.
boot_1.55GHz.zip base on the max freq 1.55GHz setting from HTC flyer's kernel source which use the same msm8255 cpu and overclocked to 1.55GHz by default.
For 4.0.A.2.368 See this

this wont fry the phone?

If you always @1.86GHz maybe........
you could set to lower frequency 1017600,1113600,1209600,1305600,1401600,1516800,1651200,1728000

Do I just have to flash the boot.img using fastboot?
And what's the use of "acpuclock-7x30.c" file?

yeah dude, f****ng sick, i've been waiting for this!!!! THANKS a bunch!!! running this baby on 1.5ghz now, seems quite stable so far...i'll report back though...
...keep it up!

Thanks for the reply.
And yeah I've got boot loader unlocked on my Arc.
I flashed it with this command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and it flashed correctly but the phone didn't boot, so I re-flashed it, and also did "fastboot erase userdata" this time, and then after couple of auto reboots (like bootloop) the phone finally started but it was unstable like I swipe through a few screens and the phone reboots..
Anyway I enjoyed that 57 MFLOPS screenshot you posted

Hi.
It doesn't work for me
flashed the .145 full flash and after the OC kernel and always Aw snap!
Don't know what is the problem.
@if2
Can you pls compile a kernel with 1.6ghz max freq?
maybe the 1.86 is too high for my phone.
Thanks for help if you can help.

Ok~
Here it is....Max 1.6GHz

@if2
this deserves to go in dev section!
ask a mod to move it there...
also may be in ramdisk (init.rc) u can define boot-up frequency to be set at 245Mhz-1000Mhz so that there is no booting issue!
@others
each chip/cpu is different.. each is unique and has different tolerances... so dont directly jump to max frequency... slowly keep increasing the frequency to check which one is best suitable for ur device...
remember just because someone elses device was able to work at that frequency it doesnt mean that ur phone can support/handle that frequency...

[KERNEL] DookMatt 2.2.2 kernel with optimized OC and LG Lagfix

This is my kernel based on 2.2.2 kernel released by LG! This kernel has LG touchscreen fix and I've added OC from HERE, ext4 and btrfs support (btrfs is experimental) and VPN support (tun.ko module).
If you would like to use this kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/H3HQT7WMSY
Do not forget to make nandroid backup first.
Packaged in koush's anykernel for compatibility with any rom.
PS: Thanks to Mik_os for his patience
PPS: With my kernel I managed to use 806Mhz and it's works very well and it's stable for my phone.
Could you define optimised OC? How is it different from the OC supported by other kernels.
Thanks.

I used a new patch and this one, modify only 2 kernel files!
I can go up to 806MHz, which is really the top frequency my phone can handle. And amazingly enough, the cpu spike isn't there What changes did you make?
Work like a charm, but lack insteractive mode in setcpu and when you put it in power mode it stay at max freq. Thanks for your work buddy.
hope you include this on your next ROM release.... more power to you sir!
Dook - is it the same updated OC code that Mik used in his latest 2 builds ?

cyanogenmod 7.2 or 7.1 ?
right now, i am using ics final (cm 7.2) and the touch is working fine
i faced similar issues before though. dont know if it helps, but go to /system/etc/init.d
and there maybe some scripts and tweaks. try to remove them and see.

i am not sure what the solution is, but u can try once.
use root explorer (or similar file manager)
go to /system/etc/init.d
now usually (if no tweaks and scripts are enabled) there will be some files.. like 00banner,01sysctl....20userinit
if there are any other files after 20userinit, delete them.
then reboot. see if its any better.

so, how do you fix the sensitivity issue? i am also having the issue which is really annoying.
To all:
I'm 99% percent sure the problems you guys face are because of the OC kernel in the CM. Can you try flashing a non-OC kernel and determine whether the results differ?
In my case with non-OC kernel the problem still occurs. The only solution is underclock processor to 735MHz. Any ideas?
edit:
connect phone to the charger solve the problem too ;X WTF? even if i overclock to 850MHz, touchscreen works perfectly!

Touchscreen Problem Fix
i had the same problem of multiple touches...b'coz of over sensitivity while using cm7.2 with oc kernel.
after flashing a non oc kernel either from ketut's or an0nym0us u can fix the prob.
thats how i fixed it.
Note:- Don't compare ur processor with other's(thinking other's can do oc without ny prob but not mine ..) b'coz every processor is different in some sense.
That's why some of them oc to even 960MHz and remain stable while some can't even take 820MHz(no wonder i belong to this category )

I no longer know what to do. Non-oc kernel help a liittle but not completely solve the problem. Still helps me only underclock MHz to 735.

More is not a good idea for daily use... You will get some lag in multitasking..
Best for daily use (to my point of view) is 122 / 729.. More my phone was very laggy sometimes..
how to overclock in the first place?
can someone please give me the link on how to do it??
thanks!
Bah,
Go on parameters > cyanogemmod > performance > CPU : select your frequencies, check overclock and keep on boot and reboot.
If you've got the good kernel (as naA), that's all
i'm using gingerdx v22 with stock kernal
and i can OC it To 787
but i prefer 748 or 768
it's just luck!
but 748 is good, isn't it? at least for me
You can try and play with various governors,i think some go higher....
Guys, in general, there are 2 kinds of X8 concerning hardware.
If you got lucky, then you can overclock your X8 up to 806.
On the other hand, if you are unlucky (like me), then you will NEVER be able to have a stable OC over 719. It is just a matter of hardware
i could see the min and max frequency, but i can't edit it..
when i press it,it only shows a cancel button..
is it because i have a locked bootloader?
been searching yesterday about unlocking bootloader, and it's too risky(well, i've had enough rooting my x8.. LoL)..
and regarding to the governors lists, the frequencies does not changed even though i chose a different one..
needless to say, it's still 122-600Mhz..

Yes, you can delete it, but not necessarily. You can change the frequencies manually in Settings > CyanogenMod > Performance > CPU, or you can either install SetCPU to control them, so you can keep the module if you want to overclock it again later.

Module-OC

Hello,
My phone -xperia x8 white e15i
Kernel - Stock
It don't matter what Rom I use I can only OC till 691 MHz at 710mhz my.phone freeze and reboot.
also I get reboot time to time on 691.
I heard that very x8 should atleast be stable at 710
my question is.
Do I get a higher stable frequency if I use a different module other than Dix's???
I came across a module which offers a higher frequency .... search for better overclock you will find the thread.....so will I get a higher frequency? ?? using the other module???
I USED THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE POSTING.
so don't yell at me. : )
Help
I'm not too sure about this one since I'm a part noob much like you but have you tried flashing a different kernel such as Alfs? linuxxd is really good but doesn't allow overclocking as I found out with the same problem as yourself Sorry I meant stock kernel doesn't allow overclocking ...
If I helped you please answer my question on a new thread I made
It's up to your phone. Your processor can go till that frequency without freezing. Other X8s can go higher. It doesn't depend on the ROM or kernel.
A custom kernel allows better overclocking most of the time. When I was on stock kernal the highest I could get to was 710Mhz before rebooting. With a custom kernel I can get to 787Mhz before rebooting.

You need to understand that the stock kernel is not designed for overclocking, it's only possible with modules for stock kernel.
You can try the other module but I doubt it'll be any improvement, if you want better overclocking you really should install a custom kernel.

It has to be the "JBX" kernel, lucize has decided to remove this file from his post for some reason, I've attached it to this post. It's based off dtrail's JBX kernel for the motorola RAZR, you can flash that kernel to the device too but I found the radio signal level would read wrong, so I have always used this one.

You need to be rooted and have a recovery installed like TWRP / safestrap, you install that kernel zip just as you install a third party ROM through recovery. If you just want GPU overclock don't bother, the increase from 307 to 384mhz only increases GPU performance by maybe 5%, it's purposely set to 307mhz stock because the GPU is bottlenecked elsewhere (ie: memory bandwidth), 384mhz increases battery drain and heat without much performance gain.

How much you can overclock CPU?

After much testing I could only get 1391mhz 100% stable, regardless of voltage settings. Could get 1.5ghz to benchmark, but never fully stable. It does speed up the phone quite a bit, but the biggest improvement is simply using a debloated ROM with every APK removed that you can.
