Go Launcher Question - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

So I installed the Touchnooter package last night and am finding it pretty cool. Some problems with the B&N shoping but I normally shop on my laptop and then sync with Nook. I added the weather widgit onto the Go Launcher and can't figure how to remove it from the home screen. Can someone tell me how to remove it because I'd much rather DL the weatherbug app. Thanks in advance. Ryan
[Edit] Doh!!! I figured it out. Please ignore request

Transparent News Widget

Hope someone can help me get a transparent news widget on my rooted Captivate. I have no other themes installed, but would love a this mod for the background I use.
I looked everywhere and tried mostly all of the transparent genie widget .apk and .zip files, but they just won't install. Not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if there are any other ways of doing the deed.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, and my apologizes if this has already been asked.
the one i have works on my phone. try it.
Just tried and its a no go. It will act like it is installing and than says app not installed (via apkinstaller).
I get an unable to parse error

i'm having the same issue as well. tried installing it a few times, even rebooting and nothing...
No problems here, it installed just fine.
I'm on JH3/SRE_1.2.1a.
Thanks for the app!
Did you guys uninstall the old non-transparent genie widget first? That let me install this fine
EDIt: changed "install" to "uninstall".
i did. SWM said i already had it installed, same with the transparent one too
Sorry I meant uninstall the old one first. that made it work for me.
I uninstalled it and transparent still wouldn't load. Now I've lost app. Not good.
i can't even find it when trying to uninstall! and when i re-install, it says its already installed..
Thank you so much! I uninstalled genie first and then installed this one and worked great.
Ok guys this is how you do it. First uninstall the old genie widget if you have it, its in applications named "news and weather" not genie widget. After you uninstall the old one reboot the phone before attempting to install the new one. Install transparent after the reboot.
I used sideload wonder machine to install file from my pc but any method should work as long as you reboot after uninstalling the original.
WOWWWWWWWWW....i felt like the biggest newb after reading that.
NEWS AND WEATHER WIDGET!! lol!!
ok...so i had it all along...and the transparent one too.
le sigh...
thanks
I can't see the stock News and Weather app to remove it on my device.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure I can help much as I just poked around until it worked.
I found news and weather with titanium backup and tried yo uninstall it there. I'm not site that did it but I saw the name of the app was com.google.genie.genie or something.
I think I then found that in the regular place...homescreen/menu button/applications /manage apps
I didn't necessary catch everything I did so I hope it might still help.
Thanks Dave. I'll fiddle with it a bit more.

Even after I delete it, when I try to load transparent one it still says it will replace it. I have searched all over for any other file I would need to delete, with no luck.
So now what do we do?

rooting breaks children's books?

Not sure where along the way they stopped working but my children's book are no longer readable on my rooted Nook. Im going to totally reset it and go through the process again to see where they broke. I'm guessing it may have to do with the fact that I updated Adobe air and I believe some of the kids books use that. I will let everyone know what I find.
the children's books that come with it work fine on my rooted nook.
Did you upgrade Adobe Air afterward?
It is def a result of upgrading Adobe Air. I just factory reset and rooted and children's book worked fine. I upgraded Adobe Air and they broke. Any who has a need for children's books should not upgrade that package.
do the magazines still work on a rooted nook?
edit: Nevermind, it is early in the morning. I was thinking a nook running a different version of android.
Magazines work still; kid's books no so much
Can someone post the Adobe Air here. I didn't notice its missing(?) til this thread.
I think this is my pre-upgrade APK... you might wanna double check the file size versus the upgrade APK.
Works Great!

This didnt work for me.
Should I be using adb to install this?
Or can I install from dropbox?
It also asks me if I want to replace a system application.
I say yes. But I dont know if it is doing anything
I answered my own question.
I used adb
adb install -r AirRuntime.apk
adb reboot
Now the children;s books are working great.. and my wife and kid love me again.

The market never showed me an upgrade for adobe air (the alternate market did, but that just shows you anything new, not in particular compatible with your unit)..

Has anybody had issues with the children's books on rooted stock Froyo update from B&N?
I tried the older Adobe-Air APK in this thread but it didn't help. The problem I am running into is with the children's book with the extra features. It is tricky to turn the pages, the tap or tap and swipe seems very sensitive but will work. The books will still read to you, but the newer books with "extra features" you can never seem to tap on the feature icon. It always misses it and turns the page forward or back.
Stock Rom, Softkeys installed, and Zeam launcher. I am not sure if I still need softkeys installed, Zeam is set to default launcher on physical home key press and I bring up the B&N home screen via the App I found on the forum here. I can also bring up the app via Softkeys --> Home button.
(I'd like to uninstall softkeys if I no longer need it due to the app i found that will launch B&N home screen. I was unable to get the double press home screen button to work with softkeys, hence using app to launch it is much quicker)
Any info or hints to try would be great.
Thanks

There were some problems if you used MN 4.5.6 or earlier. The fix was rolled into MN 4.5.25, or you can try this
I ended up flashing the stock 1.2 Froyo rom and then re-rooting with MN 4.5.25 and they are working again.
Thanks for the suggestion.

[Q] Launcher Pro Expiring

Looking for some guidance here, my wifes Captivate is running Launcher Pro (free version), and about a week ago, she received this message as one of those little popup messages, saying "This version of launcher pro is about to expire, please go to launcherpro.com to update"....
I checked the Market for an update, and according to it, there was no update. We saw this message about every other day, until this morning, she goes to use her phone, and basically launcher pro has completely crashed out, and keeps taking her to the web browser trying to open to the launcher pro website.
She has no way to get to her home screen, or any other part of the phone. All the physical buttons on the bottom redirect her to the browser trying to load launcherpro.com, I assume to get this "Update".
I've never heard of this, I run launcher pro too, which no problems. Any thoughts? How can I back her out of using launcher pro as her home app, with out being able to access the main android setting panel?
Can this be done from recovery mode?
Is her phone rooted?
Edit: And is USB debugging enabled?
Yes, it is rooted. I think her most recent launcher pro update (from market) failed to download, or install correctly, and now it's corrupt.
She only has access to the web browser. She can access other websites, but launcherpro.com will not load.
I had her remove battery, sim card, and then reboot phone, no dice.
Edit: I think USB debugging is enabled, but I'm not sure.... I'm at work, she's at home....I'm basically trying to get my plan together, so when I get home tonight, I can tackle this.
I also had her type in the direct URL for the most recent launcherpro update (apk file) which she was able to download, but of course she can't install it....
If she can sideload apps, You might be able to use the browser to download a different launcher (touchwiz, adw ..etc) then uninstall launcherpro and reinstall if you wanted... just use the browser to sign in to xda and download whichever u wanted....if browser wont let you download an apk then you could use adb, download your launcher then adb push it to /system/app/ and reboot (you might have to adb shell to mount /system RW) once it boots u might have to hit the home key for it to pop up and ask what launcher to use..

I got the same message like 2 days back. I went to market and updated my version. It didn't give that message again.
ya, that was the first thing I did, but according to the market, her version was up to date, or at least there were no updates for her to install....
I figured there would be a way for me to sideload something, but I've never done anything like that....rooting via an update.zip file, was easy....
Edit: the other thought I had was, if she gets a market app update notification in the notifications bar, we would probably be able to get to the market that way, and uninstall launcher pro, or install another home app (adw). So I'm hoping an update gets pushed today.

Try ADW. This is one home replacement simple and more or less on lines of launcher pro, well, atleast personally by me.
She needs to get home launcher or something so that she can switch her launcher.
I still use Touchwiz mainly, but I have Launcher Pro Plus, ADW, Live Home, and Netlife Home on my phone as well.
Thanks, the problem of course is that we cannot access any part of the phone except the browser...so once I can figure out how to get to the market, or into the android settings, I will be able to disable LauncherPro.
If anyone has a suggestion of how to accomplish that, it will be most appreciated.

She can't even access the market? If she can get an app called home switcher. That would let her choose which launcher to use. If not you would have to either email the creator or reset the phone if everything she touches makes the phone go to pp website. I don't know how anything she does makes it go to their website to upgrade.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

If debugging is activated you could try to adb push a new launcher apk to /data/app/
Go to appbrain.com and you should be able to hook into the Market from there.
You can also use the Android Sideload Wonder Machine from Androidcentral to sideload another launcher or HomeSwitcher. Link
Just connect your phone with USB debugging on, but not connected as a usb mass storage device, select the apk, and click install.
If you are comfortable with ADB then follow the instructions in the link below.

1. Download any launcher, say adw onto ur computer.
2. Use adb commands to push it to /system/app
3. Press the home button -- this will prompt u to pick one home app, pick the new one, and presto... u have full access to ur phone

MikeyMike has the easiest solution. If on the phone, you can only access the browser. Go to www.appbrain.com, and download another launcher from there(Zeam, ADW,Launcher2) install it and reboot, you should be able to then select which browser to use.
download the .apk from your computer and install using droidexplorer...problem solved
I had the same thing happen to me. The launcherpro website is also down. This seems well thought out. How do you make a program liked by almost everyone and turn it into something I'm swearing at for the last three hours because I need to use my phone as a #(*@^@% phone.
I don't have mine rooted. Stupid thing is I was planning to do it this weekend.
Any of the ideas above work for a non-rooted phone? Can I still sideload something else somehow?
Thanks.

Need help with psouza4's script

First of all, I am posting here because it would not let me post in psouza4's thread.
I have a Droid 3, I ran his root tool and that worked great. I downloaded script manager off the app market and ran (as root) his bloat removal script. And now my phone is stuck at the loading screen.
Please help, phone is useless at this point.
-- interesting thing is I can receive phone calls, so it looks like I just hosed the home screen, which I thought I said No to removing that.
How do I restore the bloat without being able to access anything on the phone?
Sounds like you chose to get rid of the home launcher and did not have another pre-installed..
Read the suggestion somewhere.. goto the market online, sign on to your account, download and intall another launcher (ie adw, launcherpro, etc)
Wait a few minutes, battery pull and reboot.
Should work.
Hope that helps ya.
thanks a ton nu2droid, that was exactly it...
you got it.
glad it helped

Chameleon launcher on Fire HD?

Let me preface this by saying I am a paying customer of the chameleon home screen and when I get home this evening I will be contacting the developer to see if I can obtain an apk to try and install on the fire HD.
I was mainly curious if someone else has tried this home screen / launcher replacement on the fire. The app itself I love, and it's getting better with additional widgets being added and also an api for other developers.
If I am able to get an apk to try and install, would I go about doing what most others have done with other launchers?
Set proper permissions for the apk
Move apk into system/app and reboot?
If it's more complicated than that, I'm going to give Nova a try using one of the other threads since I'm fairly novice with this stuff. I am however rooted.
Thanks!

I tried it, and it is easy to get working, just like you said, move, change permissions, and I did not need to reboot. After it was in system/app and proper permissions were set, I pressed the home button and I was prompted to pick which launcher to use.
I thought Chamelon looked good in it's adverts, but I was unable to get the widgets to look the way I wanted. I also had a problem with the weather widget. No location was found (even using wifi) and when I selected by zipcode it found my city but would not get the weather information.
I am sure it's user error, but I removed it and gave up for something else.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't had a chance to try Chameleon yet, but still want to do so, hopefully this weekend. I did try Nova launcher and it just force closes any time I try to select it, but I am getting the choice between stock and Nova. Chameleon certainly has it's work ahead for it, but it's promising imo as long as more developers take to it to make some great widgets.
ADW Launcher EX (paid version) works fine.
GO launcher EX works fine also in the system/apps folder.
