Two NICE Surprises with HD7 - HD7 General

Coming from a Samsung Vibrant..
I had already been warned that the LED/LCD display wasn't as rich or colorful as on the Vibrant (didn't bother me) and that the speaker is weak in comparison (work around for alarm clock I found is to use music alarm w/ Ozzy Osbourne or Herb Albert at full blast, then Airplane Mode before turning in so those notifications don't come through).
Also, very annoying - camera settings not holding.
All that said, two things I LOVE about this phone:
1) Camera: Was very nervous as the Vibrant has a great camera - I think the HD7 is equal. While somethings in the controls software leave something to be desired, the photo quality is there (also Vibrant doesn't have a flash). I have attached two UNedited photos below.
2) Voice recognition: Vibrant was competent with names like "Smith" but throw something more exotic than that out, there was some confusion. HD7 - refreshing!! Even "Elias Mankouche" goes smoothly through - have not had any phone with this kind of recognition capability!
Those are my 2cents worth!

I got my HD7 for a steal of a deal, heard all the negative and tried it anyways...I had my HD2 to fall back on if it didn't work...I haven't taken my sim card out of the HD7 since December .

Let me know what you guys think... tested and developed on my Captivate (and wife's Aria).
Thanks!
i got stuck in the shooter mode and can't get back to the map to buy weapons... it's like i'm trapped in an infinite loop
What happens when you point the camera at the ground? Does it stay in camera mode, or does it keep swapping between camera mode and map mode? I'll do my best to fix it once I figure out what is wrong!
Strange that you'd advertise this here when a good chunk of this communitiy's GPS doesn't work
Looks neat though.

Not sure where else to advertise... I check this forum daily, so might as well
you could try the phandroid forums. They have a section for this.
*Not trying to kick you out or anything like that and I'm not even sure if im allowed to name other forums >.>*

[Q] Recommendations for use while exercising

Now that I have something useful to listen to music with, I want to use it while running.
I have not come across many accessories to do this, but I did find this universal one:

Anyone have any pointers for the Focus? I figure something that attaches to an arm or waist would be appropriate.
I'll update this post with your suggestions as we go.
*edit - If this is as good as it's going to get, please post so.
If it says it can handle the size of the Xperia X10, then the Focus should be fine and this may be your best bet. I don't think there will be any armband accessories until the Focus becomes more popular so just go with this one.
But I don't really think that the Focus is a good choice as a workout MP3 player. I know I'd be on edge if I had my brand spanking new phone strapped to my sweaty slippery arm! That's why I've kepy my iPod Nano for working out--the perfect size.
Good points. But it's so shiny... Hard not to use it.
Another thread posted this link.
Perhaps the bluetooth route is doable

[Q] What do you do with your Google glasses?

I need some ideas.
Still figuring that out as i go..
At the moment, I mainly use my Google Glass to record stories from my older relatives and do in car video recording (had a gopro previously), like the notifications via IFTTT about when it is snowing or raining. Also get my google now alerts, email, txts, phone call alerts on it too. Also have been listening to my google music with it too while walking about and of course the navigation features are cool too.
I like not having to pull out phone; even though sometimes it's easier. Voice control is a bit weird to get used to initially but is pretty decent. My biggest geek use of it though is controlling my Philips Hue bulbs by voice with it. Some sample pics (vignettes = overlays of photo and glass display, very fun!).
Still a lot to be improved but now that more and more people have it; we are seeing new apps each week.

Where can I get an really cheap functional phone for the elder?

The young like smartphones, but what also the elder? I think the function phone may fit them better. With loud and clear speaker, good GPS, big font and battery with long standby time, SOS etc.
Recently some people are talking about the V3S from vkworld mobile, it seems that it have attracted many fans, the price is $19.99 right now. Here is a pic of it:

Custom Rom for Media (no lockscreen possible)?

Hi, I switched to an LG Velvet a few months ago, however, instead of getting rid of my old Huawei p20, I instead converted it to my dedicated media streaming device. Specifically, I use it exclusively with my CRT television as a means to stream 4:3 content from my server through the VLC app. Overall, I absolutely love it, however I have one minor issue that I hope to resolve. My problem is that despite the phone's settings toggled to disabled all sleep functions, the phone when in desktop mode/EMUI, when not in use for a prolonged period of time will display the lock screen on the actual desktop screen, while the phone itself will appear unlocked, meaning I'll have to physically get up and toggle/cycle the on button.
Using my bluetooth mouse does not seem to work for the lock screen either. I was wondering if there was any way to remove this screen entirely or a custom rom that is better suited for a streaming/desktop mode in mind. I rather like the EMUI GUI which scales pretty well to a 4:3 ratio, so anything similar, minus the lockscreen nag would be ideal. I've attached a screenshot of said screen.
