[Q] Has anyone here tried the Seidio Active case? - Droid Incredible Accessories

I want to buy the seidio active case but I've read in some reviews that the coating on the back peels off. Has anyone had that problem? And I'm wondering if it is just the black one.
Does anyone know of a similar kind of case that would do a better job?

Yes. I have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Seidio-ACTIVE-Droid-Incredible-Pearl/dp/B003UTV03O
Been using it for over a month and so far it's great. Only issue with the white is that it's starting to turn a little gray from dirt. I'll probably buy a blue one after it gets nasty enough.
The white looks cool if clean, but it's hard to keep it that way.
To you I'd recommend:
http://www.amazon.com/Seidio-ACTIVE..._1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1313800802&sr=1-4
I've researched a bunch of cases before I settled on this one and I'm still glad I did. Only thing I regret was picking white. Very solid, doesn't slip off, isn't too grippy but isn't too sleek either. Makes it easy to hold, really a great case. Oh and it looks hella sexy.

I've had mine in burgundy for well over a year, with no peeling, flaking, or any problems at all. It's saved my phone on many occasions, including face-down drops onto the roadway. When it gets dirty, I just take it off and wash it off with soap and water.
Well worth the money.

I have the exact same case, in the same color. I have to agree with Myron 100% All you need is a little soap, maybe a washcloth or soft brush, and it'll look brand new and have that soft-touch feel again. Be sure to take the case off your phone before cleaning it.

I used that case forever! I had the black one, it was awesome! Best case ive ever had, upgraded to the extended battery and cryd a little bit because i couldnt use it anymore... great case though!

I have the burgundy. Have it almost a year now and its in perfect shape still.

Thanks everyone! I ordered the case so I'll add my opinion when I get it.

How you liking your new case so far?

I like the case. My only complaint is the rubber piece on the edges picks up pocket lint.

I know this is off topic, but I didn't want to start another thread.
What's the best way I can protect my dinc while at the gym? I was using the rocketfish Bluetooth headset and Pandora while at the gym and I was able to leave my phone in my gym bag, but as of yesterday my headset stopped holding a charge. So now I'm stuck with using the 3.5mm earphones. I am using the 2150 extended battery, but I can switch back to the stock battery seeing is how I have a trident kraken case laying around. Would that be enough protection for my dinc from moisture and the occasional drop of weight on it? Or is there anothet alternative? I also don't want an armband holster, I would prefer to keep my phone in my pocket.

I also have the seidio active (burgundy) i love this case its decent protection and it dosent make the phone to bulky. It also looks really nice.

Have a seidio Active white case on right now. Great case, great protection, dropped my phone about 4 times since i put it on a year ago and never a scratch on the Inc, including the one time when it hit the pavement facedown when i forgot it was on my lap leaving my car.
As others said the white gets really dirty, i throw my phone on my bed each night and my red bedsheets have tinted the white to become red - LOL.

Otterbox Commuter Series quick/dirty review

I'll do a more detailed review tonight and switch out the photos with better ones too.
First impressions: Holy crap this is huge!
It is very reminiscent of the commuter series for the HTC Hero (of course). However, this one feels a bit more "rugged".
The case has the standard plugs for the headphones and microusb ports. It also has the raised areas for the volume rocker and on/off button. The front is well protected and thick enough to not really have to worry about placing the phone face down.
It was much easier to attach than the Sedio Innocase! And conversely, it's a PAIN to remove (which is a good thing!)
It takes about the same amount of force to slide open the keyboard. It's borderline too hard for me.
Oh, the keyboard lights aren't completely covered either! Granted you still can't see them looking directly down at the phone, you can see them if you tilt the phone back a little.
My initial qualms are:
1) The case is slightly too long for the phone. The top of the case that is around the keyboard is loose. Not just a little, but it looks like it wasn't even meant for this phone.
2) Like the mini-usb plug on the Hero's commuter series, the micro-usb plug on the Shift's commuter series doesn't want to stay in.
3) Since the back side is beveled and it's semi-hard to slide out, it sometimes takes a couple tries because it keeps slipping out of my hands.
Nit-picks:
1) Backside cover is off-center (flash/camera/speaker aren't centered in their respective cutouts)
2) No silicone on the front so when it's face down it slides around easily (compared to the hero which had silicone bumpers on the front)
Where did you get it from? Still says preorder on my end

It's does a very good job of covering up the phone and not being loose.
Got mine today, as wizputer noted the mini-usb isn't snug enough to remain in the port. Otherwise, very impressed with the design and construction of the case.
got mine in today, very pleased. although it was a little bit of a b*^&h to put on. After getting it on I noticed the usb plug being a pain, and the power button seems to need a lil extra force to actually click, but other than that love it. I feel safe now
Good review, disappointed, love my Otterbox's for my EVO and HD2. The split covers though, Shift and Tilt (from experience), just do not seem to provide the same kind of coverage but I do not know what else they could do to make them better.

I just always wiggle the flap into the port, best case by far would definately recomend. ORDER FROM OTTERBOXS WEBSITE, when it first came out I tried it from amazon (it was $10 less) but the expected shipping date was in june.
No I'm not using Tapatalk... I'm using the XDA Premium app, cause I got balls.
Be careful with the otterbox guys, dropped mine for the first time today and 3 of the 4 clips to hold the back on broke, making the case absolutely useless..... waste of 30 bucks!

+1 to that . They have like you said Replaced mine about 4x's. Never once asked for anything but my address. Best company ever . Have since bought Otter Boxes for all my Devices.
I got this case mid August, and about a week ago, I dropped it. While in free fall, the top of the case just fell off my phone and broke in half. Sad thing is, I dropped it from about 2 feet. But yes, I called it in, and they are sending me in another, just have to watch out for my phone a bit more! (At least I get to replace the screen protector, put it on kinda bad, XP

[Open Thread] Thoughts On Otterbox Case For EVO Shift 4G

So I just wanted to start a thread for myself and anyone else who may want to read it
Basically anyone who has an otterbox case for the evo shift or has seen/used it or whatever just leave your opinions/reviews whatever. I am thinking of buying one so just wondering
I don't have one for the Shift but I've used an Otterbox on other devices and would recommend it if you have the slightest fear of damaging your handset.
I believe the last one I used was a Commuter which completely encased the handset and seemed to be able to take a hit. The back was too smooth for me so I had a little trouble re-learning how to hold it and the thickness of the handset increased significantly but overall it felt safe. Worth the extra money.
I am using the otterbox commuter case on my shift right now. I like it a lot. The fit and finish seems like it is completely a part of the phone. Only two complaints are:
1. If I try to move an icon from one hone screen to another, the piece covering the screen makes it difficult to move it to the "edge" - not a big deal, you learn to adjust.
2. When opening the slider, I hear a click sound, sounding like the little tabs holding the upper piece on are catching as it moves. Again, kinda not picky.
All in all, I think it is a great case and makes me worry a lot less about dropping my device. I would definitely recommend it.

Awesome seems like ill want to pick it up. I recently cracked the screen on my shift and made a few scuff marks so that's what seriously turned me to getting the case.

Tip for putting on the included screen protector...patience and a clean work surface! I couldn't get it to work well at first, then I ended up dropping it on the carpet. I was ready to give up on it until my wife took it from me and got it to work. So...if you have the patience of an ADHD kid on meth like I do...lol. It was my first screen protector too so. Anyways have fun!

definitely worth getting. i have the commuter series otterbox and it makes my phone look and feel like a beast. only thing that annoys me sometimes is the dust/lint that gets stuck to the rubber on the case, but i just blow it off.

I have one and love it! Top of the line case, looks good feels good and protects good! I would totally recommend it to anyone with a Shift!..
I use it on my shift, and have had them on two other phones. Like everyone else said, its a great case, and really does look like a part of the phone.

I'm now on my second otterbox after a free factory replacement, my only nit pics are the usb port cover doesn't stay closed, and it clicks everytime I open it, feels like one of the clips is catching....

Just got the Commuter series and I'm a fan so far. Makes the phone feel more substantial and gives a better grip. The only issue was with the headphone and USB port covers, which didn't stay down. I just removed them, but DON'T Rip them off, it'll tear the rubber casing. Found that out on the USB port one so I cut the headphone one off. Either way makes the rubber a little loose around the port but not hugely annoying unless you're a perfectionist(which I can be). I'll just apply a little glue and seat it on the plastic frame.

Nope I can confirm that, being really careful you can take the back without any problem..
I Think that the front parts being hard to take off it's a good thing.
Had mine for 2 or 3 months now
Bought it from Amazon for like $25 when they finally came available for the shift and had to wait a month before I got it in hand.
I'm not as impressed as i would be with the protection if it was a defender case. I had the black case with fake carbon fiber and belt clip before. The otterbox commuter is better then that one, by how much I'm not sure.
I dropped my phone about a month ago. I don't know if it just hit the right place of the case, and the back case came flying off the phone, the side clips where busted off, so the back case would not stay on any more.
I decided to call up otterbox and see if it was under warr. and if they would replace it. AMAZINGLY they said YES so they shipped me a new one for free i didn't even have to pay shipping. NICE. It was quick and easy I thought that was soooo cool. Because of that i will continue to buy otterbox, and recommend them to others.
In future i hope to buy defender cases (better protection) which means no more slider phones which i think i am ready for now that touch screens are so much better. All my old phones have been sliders with full keyboards from back in the day with my old HTC t-mobile MDA, which made me find this site.
Thats my 2 cents.

Otterbox Defender Vivid/Raider long term wear report

Lasted me just abt six months of light regular use. It's still on this phone as i write and its protective capability is still almost all intact, but the plastic and silicone are both breaking down: Replacement time.
The plastic of both the inner case and the protective belt clip is somewhat brittle. The retaining tab on the belt clip that holds the phone in, snapped off after less than a month rendering the belt clip useless, as it wouldn't hold the phone anymore. The little snaps that clip the inner case halves together are beginning to go; two of them broke in the last couple weeks.
These both look to me like design issues where the characteristics of the material used weren't accounted for as well as they might've been.
The silicone is tearing in a couple places, around the volume button and one of the plastic nubbins that the belt clip tab clicks into. This last tear is progressing out to the edge of the case, another 3mm or so to go.
i liked this case; phone felt really safe with it. i liked the really tall lip around the screen that made the phone super-easy to hold, even as it made typing a bit of a challenge with the "keys" at the edge of the screen. This is a big plus as this isn't the easiest of phones to keep a safe grip on while using it.
The built-in screen protector isn't so hot as it let dirt get in at the top between it and the screen, and also doesn't contact the screen at one bottom corner so one has to press down with disproportionate effort there to get the touch to register. It's where the keypad is so slows down typing.
Overall i'm glad it's on the phone. It's big and heavy and clunky and keeps the device well protected from harm and easy to hold on to. It's also one of the costliest cases and i was hoping it'd last me at least a year: i'm a fairly careful guy too, don't beat mercilessly on my gadgets or anything.
Think i'll try the Ballistics SG case next.

-- This tall lip is a part of the polycarbonate hard inner case and the screen protector is glued to it at the bottom. Makes for a very secure thumb hold and i expect will be one of the features of this case i'll miss.

Note that only some AT&T stores will. It's manager discretion and some will be more agreeable to it than others.
Otterbox breaking clips
I have had the same problem with with my Otterbox box case, the small clipe that hold the plastic case close keeps breaking after i have to open it up to clean my screen on my HTC vivid. Because the top is open, I'm cleaning my screen a lot.
just contact the supplier through their site and tell them what happen, and they will send you a new case for free. I'm on my second case now. it seems that they know there is a problem with those fragile snaps.

Mine lasted over a year, and that's with frequently pulling it apart to pull the battery. Now half of the plastic clips that hold it together are gone, and the rubber flap for the USB port is starting to tear, almost ripping off. If you pay attention when taking it apart, it should last way longer than a year. My only gripe is its a bit bulky, not very pocket friendly.

I'm on my 2nd Replacement case as I have broke 2 belt clips within 2 months. Otterbox has been excellent about sending a replacement in both instances. I also removed the built in screen protector and have purchased a different one from Amazon. Overall the case has been decent. Happy with it for the most part. I still am using the actual case from the original but now a couple of the tabs have broken off the polycarbonate shell. Guess I will have to switch out for one of the replacements they have sent me. Unfortunately the belt clip seems to have been the most fragile part for my experience.
Wow i haven't used my otterbox defender, cause one of the clips, of the inside broke, the screen protector is almost gone (its broking) and the outer layer of silicone doesn't like, glue? Stick to the hard case!! I'm going to contact otterbox and see what they said! Thanks guys!!

KLD Charming Case (Magnetic?)

He guys, I found another leather flip case that seems really nice. I like the colors but wish there was a blue similar to the Asus Nexus 7 cases.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/KLD-Ultra-S...702452?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2c690824f4
The one thing that concerns me is that it is magnetic. Is that safe? I found a video of the case(s) on youtube.

I really wanted one of those as well but being magnetic is a no go.

Besides being magnetic, they seem to be the all around best flip cover I've found (besides the Official Samsung Flip Cover that haven't looked at.) Nice colors, good design, appears to be good quality....... Guess we'll have to wait for something else.
I received this case the other day and the quality and feel is excellent. It is a beautiful case. I'm going to give it and try on my Note when I receive it. I like it better than the official Samsung flip cover.
Any feed back on the magnetic case being safe. I am getting my note 11\1 amenities want to order the case ahead of time. So far I am liking this case.

Safe? Well, it's not going to damage anything much, but it WILL screw with the S-Pen, and render the compass completely useless.
Ive got the case and been using it the last few days with no ill effects what so ever!!!
The magnet is next to the front camera and doesnt screw with the S pen at all. ln regards to the compass I cant comment as l dont use it (l dont think)!!!
All in all a really nice solid case - no complaints so far.
ps - went for the black and beige one - looks smart!

The case is safe. Smart covers for tablets (N7, Ipad) contain magnets. That is how they automatically wake up when you open them.

I see now. It looks like butt. At least the colors do.
Ok I just bought it as well the black one as it looks beautifull and it has a kickstand feature what more do you want from a case all for a super price delivered what are you waiting for guys?
I have this case in black and I absolutely LOVE it.
It looks amazing, isn't bulky and the materials are top-notch. The phone doesn't move a millimeter. I haven't used the pocket yet, but I think it's a handy feature.
The magnet is a plus for me. It hasn't caused any problems.
I didn't want the official case, because it's made of the same chintzy plastic as the stock back - which I don't like at all.
FYI I have a brand new one of these cases available for $15.00 shipped. I'm located in the US so shipping will be a lot quicker than China. Please see the thread below for details

I'm looking at this case too and have a couple questions.
Does NFC still work?
What is it like to text and make phone calls on it?
Do you think it would still fit in a car mount with the back cover flipped around?
How easy is it to take in and out of the case?
I will NEVER use a magnetic case on my devices.
Very expensive device + magnet = prone to damage.
What would a magnet do?

You ever use the OG Droid? Both the car dock and desk dock used magnets. Magnets are fine with these devices
I doubt a low strength magnet would have any negative effect on the device.
I ordered a wallet case with a magnetic clasp and initially I was worried about dead spots on the screen. Having received the case and seeing how laughably weak they are (just enough to hold the front panel shut, absolutely no more) I'm not sweating it at all.
I'm eagerly waiting for the FedEx guy now, but I'll report back and tell of any issues.

Self made duct tape case

So I work as a lifeguard and I need my phone in the stand for music and ideally I'd like to have a waterproof case but there seem to be none available. i dont want the salt air to corrode the ports and internals of my phone so i usually use a sandwich bag but it doesnt provide any protection from sand really and its annoying. So I'm pretty crafty with duct tape so I decided to make my own case. I just did it about a half hour ago I'll probably make a better version in the future after I figure out the flaws but here's a few pictures of it. Let me know what you guys think.

well since you're a life guard why not buy those universal waterproof cases with neckstrap for less than $5?
Or you can get those disposable waterproof sleeves for note 2

Something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/iOttie-Sams...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item1c330f7348
or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/DRiPRO-Spor...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item4d0de9f4c3
Those are good ideas but it would be expensive for me because guard all summer 6 days a week and would need to change it everyday. Also the bag would be bulky and would take up room on the stand. I really want a case like the life proof but I know there are none

Well you could purchase those knock-off Otterbox Defender or Survivor cases. They should give you relatively ok protection from sand, drop impact, and minor splashes of water (for more water protection, those sealable cases I suggested earlier, would be your only choice).
This case http://www.ebay.com/itm/DRiPRO-Spor...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item4d0de9f4c3 is reusable, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I work beach volleyball and know what you mean, sand is the thing I fear most. I usually use two sandwich bags and scotch tape them tightly around the phone. Back camera's unusable then but the phone is safe the screen works just fine. I've also saran wrapped the phone itself and put it back in the case.

I was doing the same sandwich bag scotch tape method but the sand was scratching the phone thru it. I used this home made case for half a day now and its working awesome

Absolutely fugly, I would never desecrate my note like that. You could have done better with the knock off survivor case, an sp, and a sandwich bag.

That's certainly a lot more compact and efficient than trying to find a product that just doesn't exist (I have the same problems as the OP with a different model). There's no long term water/sand proof solution for any of the Notes. Desecration? I guess a scratched up, worn out phone is preferable. I've been working on the beach for six years, I know what I'm talking about.
I've been using freezer bags lately for working beach volleyball; they seem thicker.

I offered a solution in my post, one that would prevent scratches from sand, and wouldn't look like cellular Frankenstein.

I like it. Obviously we share the duct-tape sickness!
It works for you, great, sand and humidity everyday, rough stuff.
Otterbox or Survivor indeed will do nothing for you here in this regard.

Personally, I didn't find it fungly. I thought it was crafty and humorous. The worst thing, I was waiting or Jeff Foxworthy to finish the "you might be redneck" punch line, LOL. It was also something I could see my grandpa loving. Duck tape fixes everything.
But hey, if ziplock bag wasn't working for you, that couldn't have cost more than $1 in parts. Maybe fifteen to thirty minutes of time. Obviously this is not a case about drops, but about keep tiny scratch particles from getting in. A prime example of function over form.

Exactly. Who cares about what it looks like I only use it at work on the stand. Thanks for your input.
