[Q] NFS Mount problems - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am trying to get my GT-7510 (retail with the latest updates, rooted) mount an NFS share.
I have built the necessary modules and loaded them via insmod.
However, when I attempt to mount a share the tablet freezes. Screen is on, can't connect or ping in any way.
I've tried adb logcat - it just stops showing any output. I've tried getting a core dump without any success.
Is there any way I can see what the dmesg output was when the thing froze? Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?
And I don't want to use CIFS because it's slow and it generally sucks.
Thanks in advance!

Could a mod please move this to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 QA section, thanks!

Need help restoring wifi, screwed it up putting adhoc wifi on rooted honeycomb NC

Being relatively new with this sort of thing, I tried to follow cicada's thread to put adhoc wifi support for a STOCK (which obviously means unrooted) NC.
I get that now... but not before I tried this on my honeycomb rooted NC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=860
I followed the steps... but when I got to step
adb push wpa_supplicant.adhocfix /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
It responded "cannot stat 'wpa-supplicant.adhocfix: no such file or directory.
So, I
adb push wpa_supplicant.backup /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
Then I
adb shell mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
and... no wifi. Says: "unable to start WiFi" on the settings page.
This thing kinda becomes worthless without wifi access, and I now realize that the adhoc mention I was following was for stock NC's.
Does anyone have any idea how I can unwreck this thing?
Ooops... disregard. I tried step 6, and voila! wifi is back. Minor details...
Thanks for reading... and my lesson is learned. Pay attention to ALL the steps!
Just curious, do you have adhoc running now?
I'm running the Deeper Blue's HC v04 preview (flash'd to eMMC), and did the adhoc "upgrade" last night. I used the files that were posted for the v02 preview; brought it into work today, and it's just fine...lots of new networks showing up.
I'm running the CWR flashable version of honeycomb, and can't get the market to work. per the suggestion of others i've cleared the framework and market data and cache several times but still have had no sucess. rather than just not being able to download, Now i get an error has occured message try again later message. However, I am still able to use Gmail to send and recieve emails. Any suggestions?
So I reflashed and still have the same issue i'm able to download from the market for a very short time before losing downloading privileges. also gtalk is unable to connect but i still get gmail.
edit: now g services work, but i still don't see all apps.

[Q] Help recovering data from Capy with mashed screen

I could use the help of you gurus trying to get some data off my phone since I sat on it yesterday and horribly mangled the screen. The screen wont come on but it sounds like the phone is still working. The screen also doesnt respond to touching it not surprisingly
Really all I want to do is get my texts off of the thing, but with the screen not working, and ADB seeming to be disabled, im not sure how to go about that.
Is there any way for me to:
A) Remotely enable ADB(im guessing no)
B) Remotely enable Wifi(so I can use an app that is already on my phone to control it from my computer)
Any help is appreciated!
BB
If you had a custom kernel on the phone before it broke there is an option in clockwork to restart adb you would just use up down vol buttons and power buttons. I will give you a Button sequence in a minute. Just gotta reboot my phone
[Edit ]
I just rebooted my phone and the dark core kernel does not have the option to restart but I do know some kernels do post what you are tuning and maybe someone else knows. Also there is the TV OUT option just plug into your tv and see if you don't get a picture maybe its on by default. Good luck(;~}

Thanks for the reply! I was unaware you could restart ADB from CWM. I am running Serendipity VII with the most up to date Serendipity kernel I will try to find out if they support it(if anyone reading this can look in CWM and give me the key sequence that would be so awesome)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107894
I thought about the TV out option but I would still be unable to input anything from the touchscreen so would be a bit limited with what I can do
Thanks for the assist!

The only thing I can think of, if find out where the texts live, ADB into the phone and pull them to your PC.
I use SMS Backup app, but if you don't already have it, it won't do you any good at this point.
You know, Maybe what you can try is a nandroid backup from ADB. You may be able to save the entire ROM and contents, then pull it from your device to your PC.
Also the key sequence for mount usb in recovery might be useful but you don't get access to system only the sd card.
Sent from my phone on vacation
That would be really helpful key combo too to get some photos off of it..and maybe Tibu backed up apps. Mental note: use google+ cloud storage for photos and video in the future

I gave up on this for a while....but tonight I decided to give it a go again with results! Posting steps here in case someone else runs into this...
I took the phone full apart to see if there was any damage internally besides the mashed screen and I couldnt find any. Put it back together and oddly ADB started working!
After much searching...I was able to find this solution:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/...s-storage-through-the-recovery-console-19999/
for a step by step, all I did was :
Adb root
Adb reboot recovery
Running:
ADb devices
Showed:
List of devices attached
32326B102E3E00EC recovery
then run:
adb shell
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
and the SD card became mountable and I was able to rescue my stranded data

[GUIDE] Running Backtrack5/Ubuntu 10.04 On Tab 10.1

Backtrack5/Ubuntu v10.04 Up & Running On Tab 10.1
StatementHave this on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and working perfect so i figured i would give it a try on the Tab 10.1. There were alot of people who helped get this running for other devices i will mention them so dont worry. Alot of modifications had to be made in order to get this to run on the Tab because it was really made for a phone not a tablet so please follow all the steps cause there is certain code that i had to right to get the screen size to fit. Everything is fully functional and working. Finally i think this would be a nice addon to your Tab esp if your a big Ubuntu fan, I am currently working with other developers to see if we can update this so it has the new Ubuntu v11.10 but for now follow the steps and enjoy and if theres any questions or requests just write on the thread and PM me. ENJOY!!!

Thanks To:DooMLoRD, anantshri, n1nj4dude, KingOfThaJungle None of this would be possible without these guys and if im missing anyone please let me know and im sorry
Before We StartThere are going to be 10 files attached at the bottom you need to download all 10, place them on your desktop for now i will explain what your going to do with them after. Next you need to download 7Zip heres the link http://www.7-zip.org/download.htmlOk now those 10 files waiting on your desktop extract ONLY 1! i chose to extract bt.7z.001 once you extract you will be given a .img file create a folder called bt and put all ten of the files inside bt including the .img so you now should have a folder on your desktop called bt with 11 files in it. Take this folder and put on the root of your Tab.Now there will also be another file attached called bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts_v2 take this file and put it on the root of your Tab. Reboot into recovery mode and wipe cache and davik cache and then flash that file once complete reboot your Tab.Once your rebooted use some kind of file explorer i used root explorer and check the /sdcard/bt folder for the following it should look like this when you explore it./sdcard/bt/bt/sdcard/bt/bt.img/sdcard/bt/installbt.sh/sdcard/bt/startbt/sdcard/bt/stopbtOnce your verify that the above if correct you can proceed
Instructions On Launching BTStart Terminal Emulator on your Tab and enter the following commands step by step.sucd /sdcard/btsh installbt.shstartbtbtNow your in Back Track 5 shell! You should see [email protected]:
Instructions On Launching VNC ServerDownload VNC Server from the marketThen still in terminal typevncserver -geometry 1280x700You then will be presented with [email protected]: againThen look under it were it says new 'X' desktop is localhost1 that it the last digit in your port number if you ever exit VNC or close terminal or reboot you will have to run some commands to get back witch i will show you in a minute but always look at that localhost # cause it will change if you reboot so pretty much if it says localhost2 your port would be 5902 get it?
Now Launch AndroidVNCEnter the following into AndroidVNCNickname: btPassword: 12345678Address: 127.0.0.1Port: 5901Username: (Leave Blank)Color Format: 24-Bit Color (4bpp)
Getting Back In After RebootType the following commands to get back insustartbtbt
Screenshots & LinksAt Bottom Thank you and Enjoy!!!
Go to this page for the 10 files http://www.mediafire.com/?f9gk3p3t9wip5
Uhm... file bt.7z.001 is corrupted!? Please check. However, thank you.
go onto the original thread and get the files from there sorry i only posted the mirrors heres the link and your welcome hope you enjoy

i believe it does but im not 100% on that
I cannot get this to work. Every time I try to install the bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts or bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts_v2, it says installation aborted. Needs to be Nandroid restored otherwise it won't boot. Any ideas?
So can i use both of honeycomb and ubuntu alternatively or together? Because in screenshots i can still see honeycomb taskbar at bottom over Ubuntu.
Nice work. And how to uninstall it?
Ok for JAYDAWGX7: are you wiping cache and davik cache before flashing and is your cwm up to date? if so and still having problem try a different kernal and get back to me
Ok for PARAG31: yes you can run bolth all backtrack5/ubuntu is doing is running threw vnc you are not loosing honeycomb you still have that as a base platform backtrack/ubuntu is just running threw vnc so to answer your question this does run bolth
I try with two diferents kernels and roms first task650 in paris v5 and other with task650 new honecomb 3.2 stock and no luck to install the zip file in recovery instalation aborted allways display. please post your roms and kernels info to migrate and run this on my gt

Yep, same problem here. Any ideas? Any one else try this?
P7500 running Overcome 10.1 Rom, with Pershoot Kernel 2.6.36.4, with CWM v5.1.2.3. Yes with wipe of both cache.
EDIT:
After further investigation, the zip file only contains the files found in the bt folder. Just extract it to the /sdcard/bt dir. Assuming that it makes no other changes to system.
Got to [email protected], haven't done the rest yet! Will update post later.
EDIT:
Everything works after this.
Plus, i dont think monitor mode or injection works. Not without modified drivers (STILL HOPING ITS NOT THE CASE). Maybe usb? Hows usb hosting on this? Hope someone can answer these questioms.
I have a compatible wifi adapter, but no usb adapter for the tablet! I'll put it on my buy list.
Will this work on the 3G version also?
Edit: Awesome! It works perfect, thanks! Only remember to have busybox installed guys!
The correct resolution is 1280x752, so it is : "vncserver -geometry 1280×752"
also ur script isnt flashable. only thing in /data is busybox, just install busybox from market and change script
will work on 3g and wifi versions
very nice, also works on GTab 7310 (8.9 Wifi 3g)
heaven, thank you!
Awesome, works like a charm, and it blows everybody's mind.
I spent a little time on try to get capture mode to work, but gave up with the original network drivers.
I hoped it would be possible to use a normal usb wifi stick connected to the adapter, compile the drivers, and load them as modules, but i'm getting error messages when doing that, and that's where my knowledge of linux ends.
Anyone tried this yet? Any pointers? (currently flashing overcome 2.0, will try to post errormsg later)
Also, I read in one of the CarrierIQ threads that one of the pieces of the app actually uses libPcap to snoop on our asses. Would it be any help (or problem) that that's enabled in the parent OS?
Just one question: Can I use bluetooth keyboard/mouse with it? And will TrueCrypt run?

[App] Cast Receiver app for Android

UPDATE 27th November 2014
I have added an Xposed module for the clients below that will work around the issue with Google Play services 6.5
UPDATE 25th November 2014
Google have released Google Play services 6.5 which has strengthened security, effectively making this app useless (clients will be unable to connect). Until Google either loosen the security (which is unlikely to happen), or someone somehow were able to get a hold of the private keys from the chromecast/Android TV this app will no longer work and will no longer be updated.
Thank you all for your support!
Hi everyone! I've decided to finally release my modified Cast Receiver app from the ADT-1 for Android that will work on most devices (though not sure what the minimum api requirement is).
If you don't know what this is it's basically a chromecast receiver for your Android; I use it on my Android mini PC that's hooked up to my TV.
Downloads
Last updated Nov 05 2014.
Recovery install (requires KitKat or newer, or the Xposed module below)
https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B4FOzj4b2EYiaU5WSWRxeC02Tzg
Signed
https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B4FOzj4b2EYiVDR1a1o0WFVSWjg
System install (requires KitKat or newer, or the Xposed module below)
https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B4FOzj4b2EYiNFJGUE1acGZTeFE
https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B4FOzj4b2EYiOTRoanlyX19pVmc
If you are not rooted and can only install it as a regular apk, use the signed version. Note however that casting the screen from another Android device will not work due to a signature mismatch (Google Play Services checks the signatures of the app before allowing screencasting).
If you are rooted you should go for the recovery/system install option, as that will allow screencasting to work.
Xposed module for receiver
If you want to be able to use the system install version on devices older than KitKat you can use the following Xposed module:
https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B4FOzj4b2EYiZEFrN1RqLTRFdkk
Xposed module for client
Version 6.5 and newer of Google Play services makes it impossible to connect to the receiver due to some added security. This Xposed module works around that:
https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B4FOzj4b2EYiWG1tU3NfYWwwV00
Install
Recovery install
No special instructions needed, simply copy SYSTEM-CastReceiver.zip to the internal storage (or sdcard) on your device and flash it through your recovery (follow the instructions for your specific recovery).
Signed
Simply install the apk as you would with any apk, either through adb:
Code:
adb install -r AndroidMediaShell-signed.apk
or by installing it from your sdcard.
System install
You will need rooted adb for this to work correctly.
If you come from an old install, you can safely remove the old lib first:
Code:
adb remount && adb shell rm /system/lib/libmedia_shell_content_view.so
Once that's done, run:
Code:
adb remount && adb push libcast_shell_android.so /system/lib/ && adb shell chmod 0644 /system/lib/libcast_shell_android.so
adb remount && adb push AndroidMediaShell.apk /system/priv-app/ && adb shell chmod 0644 /system/priv-app/AndroidMediaShell.apk
(Change priv-app to app on devices older than 4.4)
Running
Amazon Fire TV
Because the Whisperplay app implements a DIAL protocol of its own on port 8008, which the Cast Receiver app also uses and that causes a conflict between the two apps.
To get the app running correctly you need to rename WhisperplayCore.apk:
Code:
adb shell mv /system/app/WhisperplayCore.apk /system/app/WhisperplayCore.apk.bak
once that's done, reboot and follow the instructions below.
For the receiver to start you can simply reboot provided you are using the system install. If you are using the signed version you need to run:
Code:
adb shell am broadcast -a android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED -n com.google.android.apps.mediashell/.AutoStartListener
After that it will run automatically in the background after each reboot, so you will be good to go!
Keep in mind that it might take a few minutes for the receiver to show up in the cast list, if it doesn't show after 10 minutes, try rebooting the device.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4FOzj4b2EYiNFRfVDhtZXZGcjg/view?usp=sharing
Supported Apps
Currently not every app is supported. The ones I've tried are:
YouTube - Working
Google Play Music - Working
Google Play Movies & TV - Working
Google+ - Working
Google Photos - Working
Screen Cast - Working (if you follow the instructions above)
Chrome for computer - Working
Netflix - NOT Working (I'm looking into this)
Plex - Working
Chrome for Android - Workinghttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4FOzj4b2EYiWVlDTWNGOEw3UTg/view?usp=sharing
Those are the ones I've tried, others may or may not work.
Whether the app will work may also depend on what device you are running the cast receiver on, as well as the region you are in.
FAQ
My device doesn't show up in the official Chromecast app
This is a known "problem" that also affects the ADT-1. There is nothing I can do about it in the Cast Receiver app, only Google can fix it by modifying the Chromecast app. Screen casting etc should work though, it's only the Devices screen that doesn't show any devices.
The receiver doesn't work on my Amazon Fire TV
Please read the instructions under the Running category.
I can't find the receiver device in the cast list
Give it a few minutes. If that doesn't work, try backing out of the app, and enter it again. If it still doesn't show, post a new reply to this thread with a log from logcat.
App X doesn't work
Get me a log when you try to initiate the connection, keeping in mind that some apps may be easier to fix than others. And some may be next to impossible due to them being regional.
How?
I've had some people ask how this was done, so I've written up a list of the changes and a brief summary here:

Changelog
Nov 05, 2014
* Fixed receiver not working while connected to ethernet (may be restricted to the Fire TV)
Oct 29, 2014
* Fixed app not working on API level 15 (tested by me on a real device).
* Disabled logging to file - this should significantly reduce the size of the data that's used by the app.
Oct 26, 2014
* Updated to new 5.0 preview from the ADT-1.
* Lowered API level to 15 on the signed version, keep in mind that this is untested by me. This also includes disabling some DRM API calls that were added in API level 18, so Play Movies will not work on API 17 or lower.
Oct 17, 2014
* Fixed receiver not always starting correctly due to device not being provisioned, thanks to @rkirmeier!
Oct 10, 2014
* First version!
Finally I would like to give out a big thank you to @death2all110 for doing extensive testing for me, as well as providing me with the system dump from the ADT-1. I couldn't have done this without him!
Enjoy!
Great! Works flawlessly on my Ouya (CM11). Run on boot via ScriptManager.
If you need help with Netflix you know where to find me!
Hi,
First of all, thanks, because this works nicely with my laptop! I can finally cast to my living room tv that has an android device connected.
I can cast from Chrome browser (Cast Extension) on OS X, but can't from a 4.2 Android handset (I've tried youtube and google play music). Whenever I try to connect to the Server on a 4.4 radxa rock, the server disappears from the list. It comes back after 10 seconds more or less. Can I help with debug logs or something?
Thanks!

Do you mean 4.2 or 4.4 (you mentioned both)? I haven't tried compatibility with 4.2, but 4.4 should definitely work. In any case, I would need a logcat from the receiver device to be able to see what's wrong.
@death2all110 I probably will, yes. It seems to be restricted to the US for now - I've tried hard-coding a proxy in the code, which makes it go further, but not far enough for it to work. I'll get back to you when I have something for you to test!

Nexus Q Install?
Any chance this can be installed onto a Nexus Q - I would love to get my Q-Ball back up and running!
Im not having any luck on a minix 8h (stock rooted rom - 4.4.2) or Note 12.2 running cm11. Same thing happens for me. Devices show up in the list but when you try to connect it fails and that device disappears from the list for a little while. I installed using root explorer by putting the files in the respected folders then setting the correct permissions and rebooting.

What version of Google play services do you have installed on the sender device? Also, a logcat from the receiver would be useful.

I don't own a Nexus Q myself, so I won't be able to do any testing. The Q is running a full Android system, right? If it is, the receiver app most likely requires a later API version, or the Q doesn't support some of the features the cast receiver app requires to function.
I'm casting from a LG G3 and the Google Play services is on version 6.1.74
How can I send you the logcat? Can you PM me your email address?

Am I right in assuming that's from your phone? I would need one from the receiver (your X8) because the sender wouldn't output any logging if there was anything wrong, but the receiver will

That is correct. I'll work on getting the log from my minix and tablet tonight as they both have the receiver installed and do the same thing.

Okay, I know why it happens now, but not the reason unfortunately. Do you think that you would be able to get a new log when you restart the media shell service? You should be able to connect to the Minix through the local network using ADB Konnect (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockolabs.adbkonnect). Simply run ADB Konnect on the device and start the connection, then from your computer run:
adb connect <ip>
adb logcat
From another terminal run:
adb shell am force-stop com.google.android.apps.mediashell
adb shell am startservice -n com.google.android.apps.mediashell/.MediaShellCastReceiverService
The problem is that the signature that is used for device authentication is empty for some reason, and your log doesn't say why (the signature is generated when the service is first started).

I'm mostly new to adb other then a dozen or so roots I have applied (by guide) so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong here or what. I can connect from both computers and on the device I enter logcat then replies with "- waiting for device -". I know I"m connected because if I try to connect again it says I'm already connected. From the other computer I get the same response for logcat and when I enter your other commands to stop/start the service I get "error: device offline"
Any ideas to work around these issues? I would really like to get you the logs as it seems to be a common issue.

I confirmed USB Debugging is enabled. Wouldn't this be required to even make the connection?

This is my first attempt at building an Android Kernel, last time I did it was for Ubuntu Gutsy, so please bear with me.
This is a stock AOSP kernel for Fugu, 3.10.20. All I did for now was a make menuconfig enabling some features I miss. I'm testing what I enabled, so far I've been able to mount an smb share from both windows 7 and my D-Link DNS-320 NAS running alt-f. Tried to mount nfs but it failed against my NAS. Haven't tested it yet with an NTFS formatted drive, will report back once I do. NFS mounting worked after I disabled SELinux enforcing, will try to figure what's needed to get it going without turning it off. I've been able to move apps to external storage using bind mounts over an ext2 formatted micro SD card, and on an NTFS formatted HD. This didn't work on a FAT formatted card, I'm mostly sure it's because of lack of extended attributes needed by SELinux.
All the features enabled on the kernel are built-in for now, but module loading is enabled in case you want to compile some.
I have a powered OTG USB hub, connected an old Microsoft MCE receiver and got the direction keys on the remote working, no other key worked, so I guess some kind of keymap is needed, will dig into it soon.
Also, I've built with support for my ISDB-T receiver (digital TV standard used in Japan and most of South America). It's seen by the kernel but fails to load firmware. My receiver is a Mygica S870, don't know how involved will be the process to get it working, it's not my main focus as I use it with a Raspberry Pi running tvheadend, but would be nice to get OTA tv on the nexus player with just an USB tuner. If you'd like me to add your tuner, let me know the HW / USB:ID.
For now, the kernel is provided as a zipped image, download, extract and test before flashing:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot boot.kernelfox.img
If you decide to install it, you can do it with:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.kernelfox.img
or you can use TWRP to flash it. Remember, this is not an update zip, so you should copy the extracted .img file to your player (not the zip), and select Images... on TWRP to see it. There's a kernel.config file in the zip, it's what I used to build this one, if you want to try compiling it yourself, copy it as x86_64/.config on your git root.
I've been running it for the last few hours, but as my gf is using the player, I'm limited to testing from a remote adb. I'll be trying to build support for some type of unionfs for apps2sd, I'm evaluating the available options and would love suggestions about this, again, last time this was an issue for me was on the Motorola Milestone (ie Droid) days.
[Reserved]Really?
Since this is AOSP based, I'm assuming it won't work with CM?

I'm almost sure it shouldn't, but you can do a one time boot without flashing it, so I'd love to hear if it does. My player gets a lot of use here so I can't mess that much with it right now. I'm targeting rooted stock, as I really like it and would love it with just some tweaks.
@FaberfoX is this for 5.1.1

Yes, haven't had time to dig more into it, but I've been running it on LMY47V since I built it with no issues.
Thanks man going to flash it this week
