Completely remove WM and use Android? - Touch Diamond2, Pure Android Development

Excuse me if this is discussed before. Tried to search but found nothing.
I have heard from a friend that LEO users are finally able to get rid of WM and use Android as the only OS in their phones. Is this also possible for Topaz?
Best Regards,
Suat

It's possible for LEO, but not yet for Topaz. Maybe some day...
However, if Android isn't stable on the SD card, it's certainly not going to be stable in NAND. So I think we have some ways to go still on the SD card builds before we can think about wiping WinMo...

Thanks for the fast reply.

Bluetooth broken after installing WM6

Hi all,
Finally WM6. Great!
But after installing the Tofclock ROM, my device became unstable like many others have reported. So when C_Shekar published his ROM, I installed it.
No problems on stability anymore, but after this upgrade I can no longer use my Bluetooth functions properly.
I can pair with my GPS, but as soon as I try running GPS software the device becomes slow and will reset after some time. After that, only turning bluetooth on will cause a reset, no matter if I'm paired or even using it at all.
So I re-installed the Tofclock ROM, because there I had at least GPS. But now it was no longer working there either.
Today I even downgraded to AKU3.5 and even a 'pre-historic' version of 2003 (1.70) but it does not work anymore for any of the ROMs.
Can someone please help me on this one. I understood from other posts that I'm not the only one, so it's not just my Hima. But I really would like to have my GPS back.

Which indicates that it is an hardware failure and not a software problem.
Flashing the device with another ROM version does not destroy any hardware at all.
Sascha
Thanks for your response.
But if it is just a hardware problem that can't be caused by an upgrade, how come I'm not the only person experiencing the same issue that started at the same time?
If it was just me it simply could have been bad luck.......
I'm just still not sure of my conclusions, but everything points at the upgrade to WM6. Let this be a warning!
I have not seen any similar reports in any threads before. Can you link us to specific messages?
It is very well possible that it's a software problem. After all you're probably using the same GPS/BT software in all these ROM up/downgrades you tried?
My GPS software is entirely on my SD card, after flashing a new ROM and formatting my RAMdisk it instantly knows my last position. Your software has IMHO probably messed up some file on your SD card that's related to your BT/GPS settings or so. I advice you to format your SD card, reinstall the clean GPS software on it, see if it still misbehaves.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332945&page=17
You also entered a reply back then ;-)
I will re-install my GPS software. However, I've tried other programs as well with the same result (i.e. Speed Sentry). But that might be because I tried it after a first reset. And the reboot also appears when I have a different SD card in the slot.
Right now I'm waiting for my backup battery to be empty. Who knows, a 'real' hard reset might help.
@Maggy
Seems you were right! Removing the battery didn't work so I checked my GPS program's files. I found a recently changed file for the config and after I removed it it seems to work again!
Still a big puzzle why it started when I changed to WM6. But I'm updating my ROM at this moment so I hope to be able to answer the question if it is WM6 related soon.
Thanks for the help!
You're welcome.
And yes, you're right that I replied to that post but my memory is in my PC and XDA, not in my head
It's possible that there's a tiny difference between the way the config file is written in WM6 or WM2003, so switching from one OS to the other messes the file up.
I have the good habit of formatting the SD card when I flash a ROM.
Glad this item looks solved.
Even better: it doesn't look solved, but it is solved.
I went home using my GPS! YESSSS!
Knowing this it's time I start cooking my own ROM......... thanks to all the great people at this forum.
Hello All
After having read the message, I just try TOMTOM 6 with RBT2001 and have the same problem, tomtom is very slow, and after some time soft reset.
And I have this problem with the new ROM: 7.0c.40CS (WM6 AKU 7.0)
And I had no problems with the ROM: 7.0b.40CS (WM6 AKU 7.0)
If this can help you understand the problems ?
I guess you should delete \Storage Card\ttnavigator.bif, then reinstall Tomtom
It's even much simpler: simply delete the \TomTom Navigator 6\navigator.cfg file. You'll have to redo some configuration, but it works great again.

Before flashing rom did you use USPL or HSPL? Did you follow this guide?
i used hspl to do it..i've put 5gb of music on my phone but it takes alot of time to search and selecting multiple files on file exporer is not working too..

I have about 3GB of music on SD card and experience no problems with speed. Was your phone slow straight from flash before any software was installed? Have you recently installed any other software? Could possibly be a bad flash?
Backup of emails/contacts can be done by various methods, by using outlook and activesync, free apps like PIM Backup & sashimi or 3rd party apps like spb backup, sprite or resco backup
I'm a rookie at this thanks about the softwares i'll keep the backup of the phone and any good flash rom you can suggest without any bugs that can make it run smoother..And can i put the new rom over the old one with simple process..or do i have to format it in some way like we do in computer..

Dutty has also said that R7 was a beta to see what the future of Manila is, but has stopped developing on it because it is not deemed stable enough for daily use.
You can backup your contacts and messages via MyPhone or PIM Backup so that they can be restored.
kulwant,
How did you format your SD card? Did you use Windows' built in formatting program?
I would try reformatting your SD card via Panasonic's SD Formatter then putting all your music on the microSD card again.
Cheers.

Hi I have answered this in the post just above with regard to your R7 queries. You can use Microsoft MyPhone or PIM Backup to backup your contacts and/or text messages.
R7 was just a "taster" of the future and does have known bugs and stability issues. I am using Dutty's R9 currently and there are no serious bugs being reported by any users that I have seen. It is fast and stable. Dutty will also have R10 out by the weekend possibly, so if you can hang on with R7 until then that is probably the best.
I have only mentioned Dutty because you already have one of his ROMs but there are also many other cooks who put out good ROMs. I guess the best thing to do is to research the alternatives, read the threads where you will get a sense of issues and then try a few for yourself. (Beware! Flashing can be hazardous and habit-forming and should come with a warning.... LOL)
If you have USPL loaded, you will need to run through this process again in order to upgrade the ROM. If you have HSPL loaded however, you can just flash the ROM. The RUU program bundled with the download does all of the work for you and you just sit back and watch the progress.
Thank you friends i would try formatting my sd card for the start and later on change the beta version to some stable version of rom..I really appreciate the help..This forum and moderators not to forget the users too rock..Wooohhooo

It's a pleasure. Glad to help. I too was a noob only 3 months back and thanks to the help provided and the wealth of info here, if you are prepared to read and research a little there is a very steep learning curve and you too will be here providing assistance to the next round of noobs.
Nice help from all of you...
This was a very good way to treat a noob. Everybody has been there, and from my point of view it's a pleasure to see how we don't forget. I'm sure that he will be a great help to others in the future as well. Many thanks to all who took the time to help and not just "READ THE WIKI". That's to big big for a newcomer.
Best regards to all...

Just got an old Tilt/8925, need updates?

hi all, I just got my wife's old tilt. No software or ROMs have been updated on this device at all and I'm curious what updates anyone can recommend that I install.
I did read through the WIKI and it was hard to tell what is the most recent updates available. Nothing is really working incorrectly on the unit, I just want the newest, fastest software/rom etc installed.
is there a windows mobile update that I should install? I saw some references to touchflow 3d working on the tilt, is this worth installing?
I'm starting from square one here and am looking for some general info which is why I posted in this room as opposed to the software or rom rooms. Any info would be great. thanks!
taz
The first thing you need to do is back up your phone. You can sync your or what I would do is use back up your data to your card. DO NOT USE SPRITE BACKUP THAT IS ON YOUR PHONE! I did this and could not get it to restore to my phone. Use PIM Backup. You can get the cab file by doing a search on the software thread.
I just upgrade my rom on my Tilt 8925 last week and I used build 23069 and I really like it so far. Make sure you also download the Jumpspl56,Jumpspl93 and Jumpspl94 file. You will have to add that to your phone first and I used the Jumpspl56 file. I did not have a problem with it.
Read the Wiki it will help so mucn and there is also YouTube videos on it. When looking up the information look up Kaiser. I also used this web site for help.

Good Luck
thanks Biloxigirl! do you know if I can put a new version of windows mobile on the device? I've read that some people have updated to 6.1 but do not want to update to 6.5 because it lacks good support for landscape mode?
taz
It all depends what you want? You can flash any Kaiser ROM after Hard-SPL [Resources] Flashing Your First Kaiser Rom (For Noobs) , there are many 6.1 ROMs to choose from and even though M2D doesn't support landscape well it can be disabled via today settings, not sure what you mean about landscape support on 6.5 as Chome has full lanscape compatability.
Good luck

I upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 with no problems. Now I have 6.5 and LOVE IT. Not sure what you are talking about landscape.....I have had no problems so far with anything in landscape.
Can you run 6.5 on the Tilt?
How much memory do you end up with?

yup, look in the rom dev forum.
when reading these steps from the tutorial, am I suposed to pull out the battery while the device is still powered on or should I turn it off first?
1. Copy JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe, JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe and JumpSPL1.94-KAIS.exe to your device memory (NOT STORAGE CARD)
2. Pull out the battery and reinsert it (this step IS important) *DONT turn phone back on yet*

Doesn't matter, the idea is to kill all processes. Either way will achieve the end result.
gotcha, thanks Denco

placing android on the nand flash

i saw this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625200 and they figured out how to get it working. im new to the x1 and isntead of searching everything it would be easier just to ask
1. are there devs still working on the x1 and android?
2. is it possible to run android as a primary..is there a chance?
thanks. mods can delete after
forget it! it will never be any android rom ... All devs bought X10

I agree, also, how does it matter if its a ROM...what matters is that the phone heating/battery eating issue and Wifi...
In my case, i want the GPRS to be used for the weather..but that too isnt happening...i can use GPRS in the internet browser, but NOT in the weather update and Marketplace and app store....is there a way i can get this to work..
My understanding is that we cannot currently boot from NAND as there is no code to start the LCD panel, thus the need to start with HaRET.
A quick look in the the Blackstone forum suggests they won't do it until all functions (gps camera etc) are fully working.
in current state there is no point to run droid as primary system. battery runs out in few hours and functionality lefts much to be desired. do not let excitement to get you, first impression maybe good but whole thing is not so usable just jet. play whit it some days and you see it yourself.
well, camera and gps in android cannot work under most htc devices.so,if just for fun, these are not big problems.as for the heat,if in nand,it may not as hot as it is when all needed have to be found in sdcard, and probably faster.i think what is most important is that the chefs have had x10 and dont pay much attention to xperiod.
It seems that there is a WMKernel that is only 5MB large,If it works,Android may work in ROM,I ever tried to place and run it in rom,and finally failed because there will be a img file that contains files of Android will be storaged,a file about 256 MB ,For Orginall rom,The ROM space if not enough
howerver,I'll have hope about it

so basically itll load the windows kernel (to recognize all the hardware) and then straight away get into the android kernel THROUGH wm kernel without installing the full wm OS?
that seems almost perfect because we wouldnt have to rely on the SD card as much..as long as we can have a stable android build that doesnt destroy the battery
I think putting android on flash is real ROM and nothing else.
I can't see point in having ROM that will just run haret from SD card. Then i rather just have WinMobile and launch haret manually.

Real Android Roms next to WM

Hello guys, it's been a while since the last time I came here, i'm going to get my x1 soon, but I want an Android Rom on this, I heard that Ext2 is faster than Fat32, so as it's better to make a ROM on the SD card instead of the phone memory, why dont you all make Roms with auto charging Android, I mean it boots automatically Android instead of WM,
dont know if its possible, i dont know anything I'm not a dev, I just say what i imagined lol, sorry for bad english (if it is) and thank you all very very very much!!!!
Insall Gen.Y DualBOOT when in Windows and select android to boot 1st.
