I just tried rooting my new Droid Bionic with Pete's Motorola Root Tool, works fine.
To root your Droid Bionic:
Step 1. Set your phone as "Charge Only".
Step 2. Make sure USB Debugging is checked on under Settings->Applications->Development.
Step 3. Connect your phone to your computer via USB Cable.
Step 4. For Windows, you need to install Motorola drivers.
Download drivers here:
http://androiddrivers.net/motorola-android-drivers/download-motorola-droid-bionic-windows-drivers/
Step 5. Download Pete's Motorola Root Tools here:
http://www.psouza4.com/bionic/
Step 6. Unzip Pete's tools and run the exe file for Windows and similar for Mac and Linux.
You can donate to Pete at psouza4.com and xda user djrbliss, I only used their tools and it worked.
Also see how to tether for free after you root, here.
Also see this cool ROM for Droid Bionic, comes with WebTop hack:

Yes. I installed the drivers linked above for 64 bit Windows 7.

With your phone connected to the PC did you switch the phone to "charge only" mode? before starting? You can verify this by using the pulldown menu in your phone and selecting the ongoing USB connection, then "charge only"

worked! thanks! I forgot to change directory...Thanks

Anybody try Bootstrap yet?

I should have waited... I rooted mine this morning with the old method of entering all the commands manually. Oh well, at least its rooted. Now if only I could figure out a complete list of apps to be deleted without causing force close issues.

HOW TO: Sideloading with OTA 1.5.7 update

1) Flash the phone with the stock ULYFR_U4_1.2.6 SBF file
2) Obtain root and sideloading via aRoot
3) Update phone with the OTA OLYFR_U4_1.5.7
Once OLYFR_U4_1.5.7 is installed, you will NOT be rooted, but you will have sideloading. This should suffice for some users until root is achieved.
I personally think the OLYFR_U4_1.5.7 is worth losing root for a bit. In my own experience, the update has smoothed out the Atrix noticeably. Only time will tell.
If this helps anyone, please let me know.

My question is will the update still be there today if we flash back to 1.2.6 and reroot with aroot to get the update because I'd hate to not be able to get the update again. Like you stated, it seems to be more stable as well running a lot smoother.

I flashed back to 1.2.6 after upgrading and don't get it anymore (not even through "System updates" through Settings). So idk, wait til someone's able to extract it out of the update.zip or something I guess.
EDIT: Nvm, just tried it again and got the message (through Settings)
I got it a few times. Haven't needed to try again.

This is entirely unnecessary, as you can just install apps through adb still on 1.5.7.
Just run:
Code:
adb.exe install <package>.apk
Where <package> is the name of the app you want to install. Reflashing back to stock to install the apps is a waste of time.
You are absolutely right, if someone wants to use ADB.
Sideloading independent of a computer is important to me personally.

Amazon apps on beta update?
is there a way to sideload the apps from amazon appstore?
Haven't used Amazon. Does it have it's own installer or do you just download .apk files to you phone/sd card?

Not sure if you would receive the update via OTA with that. If you were to flash that SBF followed by aRoot, would you receive the update? If you can confirm anyone receiving the update on 1.5.2, then you SHOULD be golden.
I did the update. Lost root. But can still sideload.

Wrote a simple BAT file to automate to process a little...
Basically...
1) Extract the files to a directory and put the apk(s) that you wish to install/sideload in that same directory.
2) Connect your device and make sure usb debugging is enabled and all usb drivers are installed.
3) Drap and drop an APK file onto the BAT file, and it should install sucessfully onto your device. Command window will return "Sucess" if all goes well.
This is a really simple BAT file, i'm not all that great at coding or writing bat files, but I hope this helps some people. The devs might be able to write a better script. Hopefully someone will crack this update soon and figure out how to root!
Right on man! This will be great for folks when they are installing .apk files through ADB.

hmm, we were discussing it with dark. Maybe it would work if somone woudl flash a fresh 1.8.3, than skip motoblur with that combination: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027994
than obtain root, go to system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur/ opean defaults.xml and edit the <string name="blur.service.ws.masterCloud">master-blur.svcmot.com</string> line to this <string name="blur.service.ws.masterCloud">master-sdc1.svcmot.com</string> than reboot, than go into gallery or something from motoblur, than click sign into motoblur and create a new account there. if it works, try going to settings -> about phone -> system updates. if it gets you the update, try clicking download, if it will download (unfortunately dark got an error), try to copy the update.zip file to your sdcard, probably you could use this way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041572
People will say why dont i do that, well the thing is im on 1.8.3 gingerblur with already signed it motoblur, which it makes kinda impossible for me to do that, i would have to sbf flash in order to do that, but than i woudl have to fix my wifi again, which would kind of take ages....
This could mean the update is coming early July, perhaps.
Doesnt this mean the update was downloaded onto your phone?
unfortunately no, the update wouldn't download due to unspecified error.
I noticed this yesterday but couldn't figure out where to change the address at. The stock rom definitely points to a different ip address than the HKTW does.
That's probably the dev server.

adb shell to your phone and run logcat or just run "adb logcat" then try to the update. i don't think it'll show you any urls or anything, but give some insight into why it's failing.

R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1

R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R Root for the BIONIC
Works on any system software version (.886 and .893)
Now for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
Presented to you by dhacker29, DroidTh3ory, Crpeck and TH3ORYROM
I have totally rewritten the windows version and Crpeck has rewritten the Linux/Mac OS X version
The downloads include all of the files necessary to either root or restore and root your bricked BIONIC no matter what system version you are on (.886 or .893
I have zipped up the fastboot binary, boot.img, system.img, ROOT tools and a custom script so that all you have to do is download the zip. Extract it the folder and double click on Root.bat (windows) or MotoRooter.sh (Linux/MacOS X) file to be given the option to root your BIONIC or recover and restore from a bootloop or softbrick on your BIONIC.
The Windows version now includes the ADB exe and DLL file so you don't have to worry about not having ADB setup.
The Linux and Mac OS X version has been updated by Crpeck, so that it is now menu driven and has a clicky icon for Mac OS X users. It includes the adb and fastboot binaries for both OS's and will auto determine which platform you are running.
Instructions:
Download the zip:
Windows: R3l3AS3DRoot_Windows_V2.1.zip
MotoRooter for Linux and Mac OS X: MotoRooter-1.1.zip
Extract the zip folder on your computer.
Double click the file R3L3AS3DRoot.bat for windows, MotoRooter.sh for Linux, or Mac-MotoRooter for Mac OS X in the folder where you extracted the zip.
Follow the prompts on the screen and you'll be given the option to restore to factory stock, restore to factory stock and reroot with forever foot, or forever root your phone.
Each section gives you instructions on what mode to put your phone in so follow them carefully!
Enjoy the scripts!! And show Crpeck some love for helping with the Mac OS X stuff and making my linux version even better.
If you encounter an error message please post what the error was and which operating system you were running it on so we can help you better.

Any comment?
Thx!

[TUTORIAL] ROOT LG Optimus 4X HD - EASY! (P880)

Hello guys, I decided to post the an easy method to root your Optimus 4X HD! You don't even need to use any command prompt for this, or run any commands. The only problem is that this is chinese language, so you have to click the exact buttons I tell you. At the end of this tutorial, you will have a rooted phone. Until now, no bricked phones have come out of this process! It only takes 5 minutes!
ALL Firmwares are supported.
1. Download this file: MOD EDIT
2. Install the software, using the installation buttons as you would on any other windows installation.
3. When you have installed it, you will see a green button, press it. Then connect your phone on USB debugging mode.
4. When the phone is connected the software will recognise the phone and the green button will show "ROOT", click on it.
5. The phone is going to be rooted in some seconds and the process is finished when it will show a tick on the software.
6. The phone will reboot.
7. When it is rebooted, go to google play and download super su.
8. Open super su and it will ask you to update the binaries, and you must click on update, and then normal.
9. A window in chinese will pop up on the phone, this is the screen that allows you to give root permissions to any app. You must click the button on the right.
10. You are done! Root process is complete!
11. This is the most important step. Leave a thanks! If you liked the tutorial, please show it to me!

Trust me it works. I used it on my phone and it worked perfectly, and I can show you other people that also made it work. You don't even have to worry about installing extra stuff and bricking it..
Not many people will try this if it is in Chinese ass well as no screenshots or some proof of the ability of this "tool".
And adfly links aren't allowed either if I'm right but I just leave it to @laufersteppenwolf

All the versions should work, not sure about the version on the P880. When I tried with my P760 it was on the V20 though.
Okey, so I tried this, and a can say that this is working.
I followed instructions, was a bit anxious at first about this, and according to my "Root checker", "Root access is granted"
:good: :cyclops:
If anyone wonders, i'm on V20b
And as the OP said; Takes no more than 5 minutes!

You're right, adf ly is not allowed, goo.gl however is allowed, as it's only a link shortener, not pay-per-click
However, all it does is making the impression there is something to hide, which means less users will click it

So this means this is untested?
Thread closed, as this is untested, as well an chinese-only, which can cause problems during the rooting process. Also the way it works is not really clear, as a virus scan should bring up something, but it doesn't... (yes, every rooting kit is some kind of a "virus")
