Will Verizon have the Samsung Galaxy S II or a decent dual core 4G Android soon? - Motorola Droid Bionic

Sprint has HTC Evo 3D and Samsung Galaxy SII
T-Mobile has G2X, HTC Sensation, MyTouch 4G
Verizon has... well, the Bionic
I really want to stay with Verizon, they have the best network and the absolute best more reliable network.
So, anybody knows if they will have a decent dual core phone any time soon?
I need
1) descent screen. Super AMOLED cool, but any phone will do. HTC and LG usually have good screens. I love the screen of my G2X for instance
2) 1GB of RAM, or maybe even 728MB, but preferably 1GB
3) At least 1GB of space for apps, I believe that is called Internal Storage
4) 4G. At least >= 4000 kbps/s inside malls
5) Nvidia Tegra >=1Ghz would be nice

If you Google it you will find that VZW is not going to sell the GSII because they don't think it has enough to compete with the IP5 when it drops. They have a newer offering from Samsung called the Prime that they hope to have on the market in time for the holidays. Possibly as early as next month.

Well my main concern if I switch to Spint is that I will have to pay around $80 per month or something like that
I don't have a problem with having two carriers within the family, but with Verizon I only have to pay a cheap $50 per month price
I like the fact that Sprint has the Samsung Galaxy SII, the HTC Evo 3D
They even have a Motorola Dual Core as well
All 4G, Dual Core, nice screen, good RAM
So 3 devices vs 1
From what I am reading, if I use this phone from Verizon, I will use it for at least 6 months, till January or something
I know how technology works, and how long it takes for new devices to appear
example the GTX 600 series will appear in January, AMD Bulldozer still hasn't arrived, Intel took forever to fix their motherboards, and 6 months after they released the Intel Sandy Bridge, they were still releasing new chipsets
Here is how much it will cost me to switch carriers for the next 6 months
If I stay in T-mobile and stay in no contract
$120 every month.
Total: $720
If I move to Sprint
$90 per month
I need to finish paying $350 to T-Mobile for the phone, Let's say I sell the phone in $200, $150 out of my pocket
$250 for the Samsung Galaxy S II
I still need to pay July and August to T-Mobile, so add another $240
Total: $1180
If I stay in Verizon
$50 per month
I need to finish paying $350 to T-Mobile for the phone, Let's say I sell the phone in $200, $150 out of my pocket
$350 for the Droid Bionic
Let's say I sell the Bionic for $350, let's say the Samsung Prime is $600, so $250 out of my pocket
I still need to pay July and August to T-Mobile, so add another $240
Total: $1290
In theory I want to stay with the cheapest one (T-Mobile), but again, I don't like them
I had no-contract plan with them, but now those plans are no existing anymore.
So I can't drop down to the $99 plan I had before, freaking idiot$..., they told me the ONLY way to drop my price is to make a new 2 year contract.
So if I want to cancel with them I have to pay them a ****load of money since I am still paying the phone
So even if T-Mobile is the cheapest, I wouldn't trust them with my credit card or bank account anytime soon, so I won't stay with them no way
I think I'm going to stay with T-Mobile, and then someday try to switch to Sprint
If I can switch to Sprint this week, that would be great.
If I can't, then I don't see what's the point of doing this deal with Verizon. I am 110% sure that I don't like this phone

now, with T-Mobile I had no contract, so I had the ability to go up/down in plans. Now those idiot$... removed all those plans, so they respect my rate but they won't allow me to upgrade/downgrade
So another nasty tactic would be to allow T-Mobile to send us to collections and hopefully we can go to court and explain to the judge that they can't destroy my plans, and then expect me to pay $120 forever
They actually want me to pay $120 per month, for 2 years (until I finish paying my phone), because those idiot$.. just say they don't have no-contract plans anymore.
So screw them, I haven't decided yet if I can sue them or if it's even worth my time
Anyway, if I just forget about them, maybe throw them a bone here and there, here are my new estimates
If I stay in T-mobile and stay in no contract
$120 every month.
Total: $720
If I move to Sprint
$90 per month
$250 for the Samsung Galaxy S II
Total: $790
If I stay in Verizon
$50 per month
$350 for the Droid Bionic
Let's say I sell the Bionic for $350, let's say the Samsung Prime is $600, so $250 out of my pocket
Total: $900
Now, my question would be
If Sprint and Verizon have good reception inside malls, Best Buy, Frys, Walmart... and the price is around the same
Which one would you chose?
My main problem with Verizon is that they only have ONE FREAKING PHONE that works with 4GB, and has a dual core CPU
So anyway, even though I hate doing this, tomorrow, if for some reason I don't sign up with Sprint, I am going to stay at $tupid T-Mobile.

Not worth it bud. You don't want ANYTHING remotely bad on your credit report, especially in these economic times. Creditors are looking for an excuse not to lend. You might not need a loan now, or in the near future, but you never know if an emergency comes and you get denied because of a not paid phone bill.
Just my 2 cents...

That's not even close to true. Verizon sees no point in selling the GSII because the Prime is the same phone except for the LTE radio and Ice Cream Sandwich (reported to be the first ICS phone).
The IP5 will probably be the IP4 running the iPad2's SoC and iOS5; the GS2 has been out for many months and can already run with that as can other devices.

I know, but hey, not to brag or anything, but if I work hard I can make all the amount that I owe them (including the phone cost and the 2-3 months I will be behind) in a couple of days
The problem is that I have a NO CONTRACT plan with T-Mobile
Somehow I ended up stuck at $120 per month because those plans don't exist anymore
so they can't discount me or anything
From what I know, they do send you to collections after 3 months.
So I can screw them and after 2 months and 29 days just pay them the cash and shut their mouth
I just dislike companies being dishonest
If I have NO CONTRACT how on earth did I ended up with such a high fee?
I can't even remove or add features to the plan, it's ridiculous

I can't stand my phone it's only being 4 days of use

Well, from the daily reading I've been doing it IS a superior phone to the GSII. It isn't even going to run the same processor! It is based on Samsung's in-house Exynos CPU at 1.5 GHz with 1GB RAM. It will not be using the TI processor like the duece. The phone has a metal body. That's right, a Samsung with a metal body. It will also sport a 2000 mAh battery. On the soft side, there's a new browser that is said to be leaps and bounds ahead of anything else on the market.
Obviously, this close together it isn't extensively different, but quite a bit so at e same time. The plan is to have it on the market for the holiday shopping season. Probably within the month or not a lot longer.

Your back? You said good bye already what gives chief?

Just a heads up sprints unlimited data will be going away soon enough. Or at most switch to a $30 unlimited so either way sprint will be going up

Based on my inside sources, the processor will be infact a TI processor, specifically the TI OMAP4460, and it will be housed in a plastic body to be released sometime in October, though that could change. Also, another tip: the official name of the rumored Prime has nothing to do with the word Prime or Droid, and that's all I can say about this rumored phone without getting into too much trouble.

Hands on reviews posted on-line dis-agree with your claims... I have been waiting since last year's CES for the Bionic. Waited thru all the delays/scraps. After 9 months, the phone looks to me to have landed with a resounding thud !!

I'm not saying you're wrong or I'm wrong, I'm just relaying the insider information I have. I have a friend who works for Verizon high up there, so I know his information is 100% correct and I've also seen the information myself.

Amazed nobody has mentioned this phone in this thread.

I'm aware it's out there but I've never been a fan of HTC products. Normally I really like Moto offerings but I am less than impressed with the Bionic. Especially after all of the hype surrounding it all year.

Well yesterday I went to Sprint and man that phone is absolutely gorgeous
However, my HTC Thunderbolt does a lot of the things about the same
Yes the Samsung Galaxy S II is thinner, and the screen a bit bigger
the MAIN difference is the screen quality, man NOTHING can beat Samsung now a days
However, I would like to know if there are news about HTC Vigor or the Prime
I am having a hard time figuring out why I should change to Sprint just for one phone.
Let's say Verizon does comes up with a phone that has dual core 1.2Ghz or 1.5Ghz in the near future, then that phone would be the best
the Samsung Galaxy S II was able to achieve 8000 kbps/s
The HTC Thunderbolt was able to achieve 16000 kbps/s
So, none of them is a clear winner, one has bigger more beautiful screen, but the other has faster internet
Anyway, I think I'm going to try the Samsung Galaxy SII, just because I bought the HTC thunderbolt cash, so I can cancel the contract, and I can go back to Verizon any day I want
Right now it's the time to test all carriers (I am testing all except AT&T which has a limited bandwidth for customers), and decide

My co-worker is amazed by his S2! He suggested I switch out of Verizon....Now! I laughed and told him my unlimited plan is keeping me with Verizon. He measured the speed of the phone and it was twice the speed of the bionic. Maybe that phone will come to the Verizon network as the Samsung Function soon!

I to went into sprint and played with the sgs 2 and it is VERY nice. I was thinking about returning my bionic and going with sprint also. I know the quadrant scores are for losers but I was able to get about 2400 with my bionic. I ran it on the sprint store phone and was able to get repeat 34-3500 scores! However, I was only able to hit 4mbs down and .645 up on the same phone. My bionic in the same location hit 16 down and 5 up.

Latest word on PhoneArena:
Vigor release: 10/20
Prime release:11/3.
Take it with a grain of salt, but that's the latest word.

Nexus One Prices

So, now that the Nexus One is sold out of the Google store, do you think prices for very lightly used Nexus Ones on eBay will go up or down soon? Today I saw a new one sell for $560, while I see online retailers and Buy-it-nows for like $650. I just now saw a used Nexus One sell for $376 in the auction, and used ones I have seen are in the high-300s and 400s (although sometimes not all the original accessories are included). So I was thinking, the prices could go up because there is a higher demand for a limited supply of great phones, while also there may be a decrease in demand for a phone that could have a loss of support in the future. But I am basically wondering, how much different do you think the prices in the near future (maybe 1 month or so) on eBay will be than they are now?

It depend on what other choice people have, There's quite a few android phone coming out, in the mean time I guess some people who have the $$ will pay high price to get what they want
my advice is to not buy a Nexus One.
The nexus one is a great phone, totally worth the price and options and if you have your mind set on one, dont let anyone tell you different. However, its being a little outdone by recent phones. It doesn't make sense to buy a phone that is already being surpassed. Currently newer android phones like the Droid X or the Galaxy S line cost the same as the Nexus but have higher hardware.
My predictions for the price of the Nexus One are: Initially the price will go up, as with all technology, if something is hard to acquire the price will jump as it is valuable and you can milk the buyer. After some time the price will stabilize and begin to be less then the $530 initial price.
Yeah to tell you the truth I would rather have something like an Evo 4G or a Droid X, but those phones are locked to their respective carriers in the USA right? I live in Germany right now and will for about another year, and I would rather have a very unlocked phone like the Nexus One which I can buy from American eBay (or Google store before it closed) and ship it here to avoid paying in Euros.
The galaxy S is a very good phone from what I hear, there is also a International version of the phone.
I bought mine €427 all-in
my screen is now cracked on my nexus after a bad drop and I have been debating if i wanted to spend 530 on a new nexus for a couple weeks now.
ultimatly i couldn't convice myself to spend that much on a phone already outdated hardware wise even though the software support is first rate.
The samsung galaxy s is an awesome phone but the fact its shipping without froyo for now is a deal killer. After using froyo I can not go back to 2.1. Some people might say just buy it and wait for it to be released this fall, but there are some eye poping rumors about the HTC vision coming out.
Overall, the nexus was a GREAT phone, and without the crack I wouldnt be in the market for a new phone but spending 600+ for one doesnt make much sense now
The big bonus everyone forgets about the N1 is that its basically a dev phone.
Google pretty much wants us to tinker with it, stuff it full of roms and abuse it.
We also get alot more access to do to our phone what other carriers and makers are trying to block and stop.
Yes the hardware isnt the "newest" of the new but I would hardly call the phone outdated. Is my 2010 Fusion outdated because the 2011s are coming out? hardly. It isnt the newest on the block anymore but its still relevant and supported.
Also, I think that unless a phone comes to market with Gingerbread later this year the Nexus will probably be the first device to run this for a few months at least.
Lastly, look at the iPhone 4. I can show you a handful of reviews where even mac fans say the Nexus one closely matches that phone in performance and features and they only release one a yr. The nexus one wont be irrelevant until next summer.
I think that, until Google proves it can push an Android update to all phones simultaneously, there will always be a market for the Nexus 1.

Should I Sell My Nexus One?

I got this Nexus One by trading my G1 and $125.
Am currently on T-Mobile - contract up in March 2010
Ive been getting quite a few offers for my Nexus.
- Two people on craigslist are asking 300-350.
My phone is literally 10/10 condition and comes w/
everything , casemate case.
You think I should sell it for 300-350 now?
Should I wait till March 2010 when my contract is up? or do you guys think it will drop in resale value way more by then.
also do you think 300-350 is fair if cash is given

Only way I would sell my Nexus One is if I needed the money and I had another Nexus One already to replace it.
If you like the phone and don't need the money then why sell it?
Not a lot of better devices right now. Would hold on till contract ends or if something u like shows up. But it really depends on u'r needs: money, etc...
Practically all new androids are better than it. Choose wisely.

I am in a similar position, been offerend 350CDN for my Nexus but there really aren't any other phones out there that offer anything substantial over it to sell it... I like the Galaxy S, but until it is officially on Froyo it seems to buggy and really only has the bigger screen as the biggest reason to upgrade. I'm holding off until there is a substantial reason to upgrade.

I dunno guys, I love my Nexus too but I'd sell it if I could use an EVO or a Droid X on GSM I think. The screen pisses me off to end on the N1 the lack of accuracy, the effed up multitouch and the horrible performance of the screen in sunlight drive me crazy. This is an amazing phone but HTC had to go and screw up the whole package by choosing a ****ty screen. Coming from an iPhone 3GS I can tell you that this screen is by no means at par

Gladly! New androids as in practically every android made after the Nexus One.
Verizon - Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, HTC Merge, Droid R2D2, & Samsung Fascinate
Sprint - Evo 4g
Tmobile - HD2, Samsung Vibrant (if you can stand touchwiz) & G2
And these are the phones that I can think of off the top of my head. If you want to check out the European phones: Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD.
So to reiterate, yes the Nexus One was a good phone, very nostalgic, set the tone for the new devices that came out. But with that being said, the new devices that came out are better than the Nexus One. So read up, pick one you like, and either sell the N1 or hold onto it for sentimental value.

i don't really understand caring about wether or not you're on a contract. put the SIM in and use whatever phone. surely you're not considering LOCKING YOURSELF into another 2 or 3 year commitment for the sake of a $4-500 phone ?
as far as all those being better, the hardware specs are very similar. the carriers... oh man, CONTRACTS ! no thank you. i'll stick with the tmo pay-to-play non contract.

Yea. Before I paid Google 500+ I did my research about my nexus, and the math. Figured up over 2000+ dollars saved over two years using voip and Google voice, so I bought my nexus flat out and have been smiling since. Benchmark test wise I'm still over the Droid X and along with evolution I don't like the size. The g2 has 800 MHz =( and I don't use QWERTY or HDMI out. So a year after the purchase I would make it again today =)
N1 running psfreedom recovery and MIUI! sent via XDA app =D
All those phones mentioned have identical processors. Nothing running 1.3-1.5 ghz out yet. From what the news was saying is that towards the end of this year and begging of next we will have faster processors on smart phones.
I'd say hold off on selling your nexus or if you do, you aren't really getting anything better spec wise, maybe design is what you are looking for.

Keep the Nexus !
If you are wanting to stay with a certain carrier, your Android choices can tend to become very limited. I've been with Tmobile for years, happy, not moving.
My phone choices.... I dont really see any phones offered yet as being worth
signing another two year contract for.
I mean nothing fantastically better that my Nexus.
Heres what I mean, two years ago I was on the original G1 prebuy.
The Nexus is very drastically better than the G1.
I just dont see the TMO phone thats drastically better than the N1.
And if you have a Nexus then you have TMO or AT&T and AT&T's Android phone selection is worse than TMO's.
I'm holding pat especially since the N1 gets the updates months before any other phone does.
MyTouch was supposed to get Froyo "soon", and months have gone by, still no update.
Its almost like TMO would rather just keep everyones attention on its once a month new phone release than update the older phones.
When I do get a new phone I will keep the N1 till I'm sure the new one is better.
I've yet to see that phone though.
^ very true.
What also worries me is that none of the announced phones that are due to be released in this Q of the year are a whole lot better than Nexus One.
But as someone else said, I love my N1 except for the screen. The screen pisses me off so much!!
The G2 and the new mytouch are good replacements for the N1 in my opinion. Granted I'm not too impressed with the new mytouch overall design, nevertheless, the specs are nice and the FFC is a plus.

T-Mobile Valentine's Day Sale

Anyone else taking advantage of their sale this weekend? All Smartphones are FREE with a 2 yr. contract. The wife and I have been month to month since December, so I think were gonna take advantage and pick up some new phones.
Pretty sure i'm gonna get an HD7, after seeing a lot of vids, threads, playing with it in store it seems like a really solid device and after using Android for 2 yrs it seems like it's gonna be a nice change. Originally wanted a Dell Venue Pro, but the HD7 will be FREE , and the DVP is having a decent amount of issues at the moment.
The wife wants to stick with Android, she'll probably get a my touch 4g..
Anyway..just seeing if anyone else is taking advantage of this sale
I would if I weren't an Even More Plus customer. I did however buy one outright and couldn't be happier. I am eagerly awaiting the first update, but even without it everything is grand.
Yeah we were on even more plus, gonna go back on contract though. I think their unlimited plan with 3000min is $150 right now
I can't go back on contract. My bill after taxes is $131. That is 2 lines, unlimited talk and unlimited data (believe it or not we don't text). Even if I want to add unlimited family text, it takes me up to $150 after taxes. That's unbeatable for unlimited everything on 2 lines.
I just buy phones outright now. I more than make up the savings, especially when you bring in the Craigslist factor.

free...no rebate and it should be here tuesday!
i love my hd7
yep, took advantage of it...I got the HD7 the wife got a mytouch 4g...I tried to convince her to go for windows phone 7, but she stuck with Android.
Great deal none the less...phones were free and we got the special they're running on 3000 minutes, unlimited everything: $150/month
It was kind of annoying how much the sales people were pushing Android, they really didn't have anything good to say about windows phone 7...multiple times they repeated "yeah all the workers here use Android, we all have mytouch 4g's"
That sucks to hear. You'd think they'd be partial to all platforms.
Yeap, just picked up the HD7 from the T-Mobile site. Can't beat free. Got a Moto Defy last month that I'm enjoying but I guess I'll give it to the wife. That's if I can convince her to take it. She had a T-Mobile Tap for a bit last year and it left a bad taste in her month concerning touch screens. lol She's using a Samsung Gravity II now but I think I can convince her the Defy is better device.

[Q] Whats your next phone

Well I see that I am due for an upgrade on July 21st and am thinking about getting another device. I like the captivate but am wanting to get 4g as I will be going into 4g areas periodically and would like to take advantage of the speed.
Not sure which way to go. Get the Infuse for 149 in Walmart or the Inspire for 49 there as well. Wait for the S II to come to att. S II may be a bit out of my price range.
Att doesn't have real 4g, they just renamed their current 3.5g hspa network to 4g, a captivate will work just as fast as any other att "4g" phone.
The infuse is a bit too big imo and is based on last years hardware, the inspire is old tech too, i'd wait for the sgs2.
i want the sgsII but if the rumor is true that samsung will back down production of it in favor of the sgsIII to compete with iphone5 then ill wait even longer for that. my i897 is good enough so far but better save a bit of extra cash in the long run and get an even better phone
i maybe go for samsung infuse 4g or sgs II.
I have upgrade coming in December. considering how fast these things come out, the Infuse and SGSII will probably be old news by then. Definitely sticking with Samsung android. have had good experience with them.
My ATT upgrade is 5/2012 so I'll probably see what is on the horizon then. I think everyone underestimated how well the captivate would run gingerbread. This is actually the first phone I've had where I didn't sell it within 3 months. Well, I didn't sell my G1 but I did give it to my wife within 3 months. I'm not in a huge hurry to get rid of it.
If I did had to pick something soon, I'd probably go with the SGS II.
I am praying ATT gets the next Nexus device. I'd upgrade again this year for that.

I have an upgrade at the end of July. But I'm gonna wait and hope that att will get a nexus device.
I just really want android 4.0
Sent from my Galaxy S captivate
Waiting to see the samsung attain (att branded sgs II), should be out by the end of summer. I may also go ahead and get the sgs II international.
AT&T recently gobbled up Alltel in my area, so I'm in test-mode, trying to figure out if I want to stay with them or go for Big Red (or do the Walmart pay-as-you-go). I had a number of less than favorable experiences with Samsung in the last few years. My wife had a Delve that we replaced three times, and all of them were junk. The in-laws have a Rugby II that I'd happily throw in the blender (stupid PTT button!).
I hated the Aria that AT&T gave me, but I am a fan of HTC in general. My opinion has radically shifted with this Cappy. I love the deep black of the unlit OLED, and the over-saturated colors are to my liking as well. I'll have a hard time giving up my Captivate, but if I do, I bet the SGS II (or III, if rumors are true) will be the next pocket processor for me.
<<<<< Edit: Since I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan that AT&T is desperate to steal away from me, and they won't activate a 4G device w/o a data plan change, I may just see if I can find a SGS II.
Just purchased a Atrix today, I like it so far.

the good thing about sim cards...take it out of one phone, put it in another phone. Im grandfather employee plan since 2001 and havent had the slightest problem changing phones

You are sorely misinformed about that. Have been speaking with att for the last several months now and every rep that I spoke to both in store and on the phone assured me once you have the unlimited plan they won't take it away as long as you stay with a smartphone. So it doesn't matter whether a 4g or 3g device you get to keep.
So if someone in the store told you that then tell them to go pound sand and get there facts straight
Still up in the air. May just wait till Sept or Oct and see what lands. LG is coming out with a 3d phone on ATT may look at that though I would think battery life would be sucky. Moto phones are not an option for me as I despise them for personal reasons.

Att should have a few Android devices we haven't seen yet coming out. They said 12 Android devices this year. I think we have only seen maybe a little over half of those so far. I am going to be shocked if their isn't another high end Android phone by Oct-Nov. I hope ATT gets the rumored Nexus phone.

I'll try to re-verify that. I have been told the exact same thing by four different store employees and two phone reps. No 4G for me without a data plan change. Not only that, but they are adamant (and I have confirmed this with a guy who bought an Inspire on eBay) that data does not work at all with a 4G phone on a 3G data plan. I need more information, I guess.
Ok just bought the HTC Inspire and I was able to keep unlimited data. There is a 4g unlimited data plan for those folks already on unlimited 3g data
SmartPhone Personal
$30.00 N/A Unlimited Current
SmartPhone Personal
Data Plan for SmartPhones. Unlimited domestic data usage. Only available for upgrades. Requires customers to be on a "Gold List" SmartPhone Plan prior to upgrade to 4G device.
So as I said Owen you are being told mis information. If you have a current 3g unlimited data plan you are able to upgrade to a 4g device and get the unlimited 4g data plan. I JUST DID IT
Awesome! I'll try harder next time. My unlimited plan is $20, and they really hate it, but I love it. You listed some exclusions, but if I stick to my guns, I should be OK. I've had a rough time with AT&T and my wife's unlimited BB plan. They have revoked it three times now, and I have to keep going all the way to their mergers and acquisitions group to get it fixed.
Sent from my Cappy using Swype and my middle finger.
You kept leaving out the most important piece of information the 20$ data plan. That is your issue. Of course they are not going to do. See if they will upgrade you to the 30 and then you will be able to keep if not then cie la vie and don't get a 4g device.
i have been trying to figure out this question for weeks. The only phone that i can image upgrading to would be the infuse and thats not really hooking me like the Captivate did.
id say wait for the SGS II...its just gonna be a phone i believe that would be a true value for your upgrade option.
I do have to say am liking the inspire alot GPS is spot on out of the box. Ran a 20 mile round trip on it and didn't wavier once. Locked on in 10 secs in the car and 30 secs in my house.
I am linking Sense alot too. Speeds are awesome. Now to root and find a rom for it.
Reason I didn't wait is I can't afford much more then what the inspire was cost wise. I was reading alot about it went to 3 different corp stores in town and asked them what where people with captivates upgrading to and they said the Inspire. Infuse is more money for not alot more. Screen is a tad bigger both phones have screens almost identical. Came down to price. HTC seems to push things quicker for updates.

[Q] Bionic Worth the extra $100?

Hello,
I would like to first start out by stating that I am new here and have been reading and researching about a lot of different phones for my verizon upgrade.
I have narrowed it down pretty much to the Droid Bionic and the X2. However I currently do not have 4g access in my area so its not hugely important to me to have 4g. The price difference between the x2 and bionic is $100 more so its a bit of a jump. Also I currently have an LG Vortex so I know that almost any phone is an upgrade.
So I want to know if it is worth the extra $100 over the x2 if 4g is not needed.
I know it has 1gb ram vs 512 on the x2 or if maybe there is a more recommended phone idea (I know this is the bionic forum) I really like the 4.3 in the screen size and would not really want to go below 4" is screen size. I tend to be a technology power user and will be taking advantage of as many features as possible and maybe some custom themes/roms.
Yes I know the bootloader is locked but I feel that it will be unlocked soon I see the drive in the community for that so if not by Motorola it will be by someone.
Thanks I appreciate the input... If you recommend another phone please post why vs the x2 and bionic.
Do you gave a radioshack around your area?
I got my bionic for 199 jus a little over a week ago
Not sure if they are still having the sale but worth a check

This is why i went with the bionic.
I had the Droid X2 for 3 months, it was a ok phone nothing to show off, the Loud-speaker was somewhat low not very clear,The cpu/gpu was not the greatest or on par want i wanted it to be or hoped it would be,The screen was pretty good, the biggest problem's i had with the droid x2 was radom reboots/boot loops on stock, and the music poping sound from my music from the speaker of the phone, and this phone was a replacement for the Samsung Fascinate.
now to the Bionic
I have had this phone for about a week now
Its very fast, The Cpu/Gpu are very fast on stock i am not even rooted running all stock have a ton of apps on the phone and it runs very fast, and the screen is very nice looking, sound is very nice sounding, speaker sound is very good, no poping or anything of that, the 3g works very nice very fast, loads web pages very fast. the 1gb of ram helps alot with the o.s. the front camera is very nice and takes nice picture's and the 8mp camera works very well, and the 1080p recording works very very very well, i recorded my friend for 10 minutes messing around and it was very clear and the sounded very clear and nice.
When you get 4g the phone will scream, but it will eat the battery alive,
But i would if you have 3g on or 4g get the extended battery. i did get the extended battery and its alot longer lasting but alittle bigger, so if you get the extended battery get the case made for the extended battery it will not fit a nomal case. i already tried.
but i would chose the bionic because overall its a great builit phone, and verizon/moto already has a patch coming out in nov to fix them, and there is a great dev team working on roms/themes for this phone, so its only going to get better for this phone
if you are from the TOLEDO AREA please pm me and i can get you in contact with a guy who will help you out. he is a manager from a toledo store
I do have a radioshack but im on upgrade pricing and i've checked the website and a few resellers the best i have found is $249 but i would be getting a car charger and screen protectors at no additional charge.
I will double check radioshack but they never seem to be cheaper here.
PS. Unfortunately I am not in the Toledo area. Thanks for the offer though.
amazon online has a good price, or you can call verizon customer service and explain to them and most of the time they will be more then happy to help you. if you look at my thread below, you will see verizon customer service does help and they go out of there way for the customer. so you should start there if you want to try to get a discount if thats what your aiming for.
If you hold on to your phones for more than 18 months, I recommend choosing the Bionic. With a 1GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, decent graphical hardware and high resolution screen, it's going to have much greater longevity than a phone lacking any one of those features.
Dual core isn't a big benefit right now, but as soon as Android and third party programs more widely support multi-core processing, it will become very important. And 512 MB of RAM is barely sufficient for todays' high-end phones, much less for the operating environment a year or two from now.

Even with upgrade, you can still get Radio Shack's $199 deal. But the tax, $70 in Los Angeles, kills the deal. The best deal is still with Costco. They are out of the accessories, but they give you a mail-in rebate, instead.
If you really need a phone, get it Bionic. If you can hold off a few more weeks, you'll have more phones to choose from and find better deals on Bionic.

Typically I do hold onto my phones for that long at least usually more like the 2 years between upgrades.
As for amazon the price is 249.99.
Radio shacks website says 299.99. with $100 mail in rebate (making it the 199) if you trade in your old phone but i can't be a smart phone. Also I am on a family plan and my mom already did the trade up to smart phone with $100 rebate so i have no line i can cheat that with... One more thing I currently have unlimited data and do not wish to lose that.
I'm not as concerned with the price as I am with making sure it is worth the extra cost.
if your going to pay close to $300 your better off just calling verizon customer service and ordering from them, and getting the extended battery while your getting the phone. but thats just me, it worth the price. its a great phone with alot of power and alot in its furture. but i will stop opening my big mouth lol

LOL I would rather not pay $300 or close to it but as far as its going i am not finding anything cheaper. although i did hear costco what is the price there?
i looked it up online on there website and its says $279.99
Ok so it seems I'm at that sub $300 price and stuck there... I might call and see what the price would be with extended battery. like you suggested
I had the X2 for almost a month, and am much happier with the Bionic. The original X was an awesome phone, the X2 was slightly better, and the Bionic is in a different league. I don't have 4G coverage either, but the 3G performance is more than adequate.
Good luck!

With my VZ upgrade and Amazon, the phone comes in at 220 bucks and I can keep my existing unlimited data usage. I too am about to take this plunge, I have found no solid reason to not get the Bionic, the dual core is an advantage in the future.
Check with Costco
Check with Costco. The are selling it for 199 with a car dock and several other extras. This deal is in store and not online.
By the way, I came from the Thunderbolt and the Droid 3, and this phone is much better than both for most of the reasons stated above. It took several tries with some defective units, but I am content now.
Hmm I would check with costco but I would need a membership or someone with one to buy me a gift card in order to make purchases from there.
Also if you buy from costco and lets say the phone is defective would i have to take it back to costco or could i go to a verizon store to get a replacement? being that the nearest costco is 45miles away
This is a terrific phone for many reasons. One, if you're into the whole "rooting" thing, and if you're not, you need to jump on the bandwagon!, the ROMS already being pushed out for this thing are amazing, which means in the future, this could very well be the phone that has numerous ROMS, etc, like the original Droid. It's very fast, I have never had any problems with mine. The problems that I have read about will be addressed with an OTA update, however, if you would not like to root.
U can get a 6o day free membership easy.just check online
Also try bestbuy and wirefly.com and letstalk.com both offer free shipping overnight not positive though

Don't go by radioshack.com pricing. Online pricing is different than in store pricing. The in store price on the Droid Bionic is currently $199.99 with no mail in rebate.
I got my Bionic @ Verizon for 149.99 (after Phone-Trade-In)
They advertise it at $299, but if you stand there and take to much of the Sale Reps time, he will bring the price down just to get you out the door. Then after he agrees to the $249, then ask about the $100 Phone-Trade-In. (He he says its not available anymore, then Verizon.com Lets you Trade in all kinds of phone https://www.trade-in.vzw.com/home.aspx - that site will tell you the price they will give you for different phones, and you can even trade in multiple phones to rack up some extra cash)
So far, I'm not impressed with the Bionic. And I'm EXTREMELY Annoyed at the fact that it doesn't allow apps to be Moved to the MicroSD Card. If give you the option to "Move to Media Area" but thats the 8GB of Internal Memory. The phone claims to have 16GB of Internal Memory, but it only allows you to access 8GB for music/photos/etc.
I paid $99 for a 32GB MicroSD card, which is just sitting in the phone not being used, because the Bionic Doesn't let ANY APPLICATION store cache/files to it. Evernote, which has always used the MicroSD and Has a option in the Settings to use the MicroSD, will not save to it. Instead it uses the Internal Memory. Games that download Extra Files, stores them to the Internal Memory instead of the MicroSD. I have two Games which require an additional download of roughly 300MB each, thats nearly a Gig of Space already gone from the Internal Memory. Then there are my Google Docs saved for offline access, E-Books saved for offline reading, and Many other things eating away at the small 8GB of memory. I Think this is do to the Bionic having the Phones Internal Memory Partitioned incorrectly, which is causing Application to think that the 8GB of Internal Memory is actually a SD Card. But oddly the Bionics Built In Camera application WILL save to my 32GB MicroSD. But its the only one out of the 14 Applications I've installed. Verizon Claims this is an error on the App Developer, and since Apps are 3rd Party, they provide no support.
There are other bugs; but I believe there is a update coming in Nov (I think someone mentioned it)
The Bionic Comes with a lot of Bloatware that can't be uninstalled unless you root the phone.
The Camera is kinda Crappy. Expected way better pictures from a 8MP camera. Its shoots HD Video, but they are small resolution videos.
Its quick, and HD games run smooth.
I've never had any other DRIOD, but I've had many ANDROID phones, and the Bionic is certainly not one of the better Android Phones. But thats expected from Motorola, since they have to customize everything, which sometimes causes them to fall short on functionality. I haven't owned a Moto-Phone since the Razor (which was a big fail)
If you get it, and Don't like it, you have 14 days to change - but know they will charge you a 35$ restocking fee.
Good luck in your choice
