[KERNEL] CM7.1 Nightly Kernel + Voodoo Color and sound [CLOSED] - Nexus S Android Development

Lately, a lot of features where added in the CM7 Nexus S Kernel. The only big thing missing for me were the Voodoo Colors and Sound.
This is a custom kernel that I built that includes the lastest and greatest Nexus S kernel from the CM team + the addition of Supercurio's Voodoo Color and Sound.
Was only tested on NS, Not sure if it works on NS4G...
THIS IS ONLY FOR CM7.1 latest NIghtlies/Kangs
Latest!

Old:

Source for the kernel
Enjoy!
PS.: I did nothing but merging the CM team and supercurio's work. Be sure to thank them!

Can this be undervolted with SetCPU?

Thanks!gonna try it later

Can you undervolt the stock cyanogenmod kernel? I'd say no, it's something I don't think would be included by CM for similar reasons why they don't include other mods like voodoo (I imagine).

No OC or UV for this kernel. They do include quite a lot tho: BLN, BLX, touch wake... there's more but I forgot.
The captivate CM7 stock does include OC and UV so might see that at some point. I'm not planning on adding it in tho. I'll let the pros do it

Am I reading this correctly that the stock CM7 kernel supports BLN?
More to the point, does this kernel support both Voodoo and BLN?

Yes. As of nightly 203, stock CM7.1 supports BLN... and this kernel adds voodoo color and sound.

what are the main features of CM7 kernel that complete with Voodoo Mod

Thanks, wanted to do exactly this next week!

I did not realize until just now that KalimochoAz was from the CM team and that he included all of my tweaks in the CM kernel. I am feeling honored.

Has anyone tried this yet? And I'm just curious as I'm new to the whole kernel thing since I just came from milestone xt720, is it normal to have double everything in the update.zip in the OP? I always check out zips before I flash them and there's two of everything, meta-inf, system, and kernel. Does this matter or should I just flash it? Thanks in advance.

check out the accessories section for my white case thread if any of you are interested

It looks like the next current nightly again contains a lot of commits to the Crespo kernel. Edit: Looking forward to the update.

It's not that I'm not satisfied with the kernel I run, it's just that I'm certain there's some better one out there.
EDIT: What do you think of the kernel labeled Tiamat_N1-v4.1.0? From here: http://tiamat-dev.com/mahimahi/
the kernel you mentioned is what i am currently using as testing so far its working good with MIUI 2.3.23 and it offers up to 1.2GHZ overclocking which is not stable on my nexus at least

sry for my noob question. but is the kernel jus for oc purpose or for overall performance(battery life, call audio quality, smoothness etc)?
cos i am happy with stock kernel. no issues at all

the stock kernel was good for me to it did not give me any trouble but i like to mess around with my devices the change log for the kernel can be found here
Code:
http://tiamat-dev.com/8x50-changes/
as you can see there are a few improvements to the kernel with each update
I have been having 3G mobile network issue with CM7 base ROM. On certain location, I cannot download and make or receive calls. my 3G icon arrows show upload activities but no download happening. My ISP name (Maxis Malaysia) showing as normal. I upgraded to CM7.2, tried Kang ROM, preshoot kernel and change new SIM card but doesn't help. Anyone has any ideas on this problem? ROM or Kernel issue? Thank you.

There is CM7 for Stock Kernel I think that there are most famous and most stable ROMs and Kernels
EDIT: There are even FroyoBread, FroyoPro,GingerDX and I think that they are all for Stock Kernel
Original development means that it's an original rom, made "from scratch" (i think it's the termXD). I't doesn't separate Stock/Custom Kernel, it's for roms made entirely by the developer, not a port or a themed rom. That's what i understand for that
What's scratch?

PrimeHD was a themed GDX and Presto is basically a themed MiniCM7 with some minor changes here and there. Nothing substantially original.

PrimeHD for stock kernel GDX.
Presto is simply build from Naa's sources nothing else.

Ok...
1. HAKA already said himself that PHD was stolen, so let's not go there. Btw, PHD for custom kernel is actually an apk-edited MiniCM7 without permissions (according to eagleeyetom and B.Jay)
2. So what if it is compiled from source? I also can compile from MiniCM source and post it, but it would be IDENTICAL to MiniCM7. You have to make substantial original source code edits and then compile it for it to be considered original. HAKA hasn't done a substantial amount, so it isn't considered original, I'm afraid .
Well, I think I've explained clearly enough. If not, you might wanna PM a mod. Hey, it's their judgment that counts.

With significant edits and changes to make it work properly on X8. So it is original. Also, if a ROM is compiled directly from CM sources, it is original.

MiniCM is nAa's version of CM7 specially built for X8, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. GDX uses the HTC Hero's version of CM7 (since doixanh stated his thanks to racht for his build machine and as we all know racht was a bit of a X8~HTC fanatic) which means it has many performance optimizations from the Hero, special HTC-like features and not to mention the Hero still has nightlies being released, unlike our X8 (before nAa set his up)
As expected there are a lot of questions about what is original development.
We use this as guideline.
In a few words, the rom is not based on an existing rom for your device, it is no rebuild from your favorite rom.
CM ports are original, but only the first port. Same for AOKP ports etc.
For ease we say, it must be build from source.
Themed roms are in no way original development, it stays theming.
In short it is to us, the moderating team, to decide if a rom belongs in the original development team.
We will not react to questions as: why isn't that rom in original development? He should be there, he is my favorite dev and it's my favorite rom.
One thing I want to make clear, if a rom is not in the original development section, it is not because it isn't a good rom! I used a lot of themed roms and often I prefer one of the themed ones, just because of the eyecandy

I think everyone is using voodoo lag fix nowadays, so it should be fine even if you leave lag fix on. However, make sure you are flashing the version for Samsung rom, not AOSP roms.
