Honestly, I would go for something better. Unless you are really looking for a physical keyboard to text on that is. The HTC Desire Z/G2 is another physical keyboard slider that is better spec'd than the Milestone and less outdated. If you can get that I think it'd be a good deal.
If all you are doing is texting, then yes, the Milestone can be a good option. But for anything else, it is starting to become outdated and pales in comparison to other phones.

i see but i can hardly find a phone which apperance is as nice as milestone...so im still thinking...thx

Honestly speaking, you should seriously wait for a new device or purchase something like the Samsung Galaxy S 2. Trust me the milestone is a little too outdated with dual core processors at 1.5GHz beginning to be rumoured about and milestones 550mhz processor not to mention the insufficient amount of ram - 256mb in comparison to others with like 1gb ram e.g. atrix, samsung galaxy s 2 i think. If you are patient and have the money I would wait to see what google will be unveiling soon (probably october 11 ctia or something) or even what apple is most likely unveiling on october 4th.

Milestone even though is outdated can be kept alive, but it involves flashing, tuning, trying, etc. And even after that it still has very small RAM.
If you prefer the looks and you have a _really_ cheap offer and you are short on money you might consider it buying. If not, just wait (as everyone else suggests ).

oh,it seems that i should really consider it carefully, thx guys

Milestone is showing its age bro. If u really want a qwerty android then htc desire Z or milestone 2 is for u.
Buy only if u've got a very good offer on the second hand milestone. U might have to do quite a bit of tweaking n roms testing to find sumthin for ur needs. Gud day

Nexus One vs. Everything else to be coming out soon

I have a Hero right now.
I'm debating whether or not I should buy the Nexus One now, or wait for different phones with the same speeds to come out.
What's your opinion? Is the Nexus One ahead of the game by quite a bit in terms of speed, or will it soon be matched with phones that are coming out soon?
I have heard a lot about Android Phones coming out with 1Ghz processors, but am still unsure about a lot of things.
So in short, should I wait for the newer phones coming out (with 1Ghz processors), or buy the Nexus One now?
Thanks.
All the latest Android phones that are about to come have 1GHz processors. I believe the only thing that will differ the speed will be how much available RAM each phone has, which will be less than half judging from previous events. I don't know what other factors come into play when it comes to speed and Android - probably little OS things. Really, as usual, your choice is of course going to come down to personal preference. Form factor, Android version, and etc. will be the things that will have to determine your choices.
I'm sticking with the Nexus, it of course will be receiving all the development.. like the G1 per-see.. everything that comes out will eventually find itself of the Nexus if good enough. So don't worry yourself.
Unless overclocked, all these new Snapdragon phones will probably come underclocked to 998ghz like the Nexus that has been bumped up to 1113ghz.. not that that matters nuch I would assume.
Oh yea, and the 8MP cameras that have appearing.. that will also come into play here.
Edit: to address the 1113 GHz thing.. I obviously meant 1.113GHz everyone, don't be such jokers.
I think Cyan said it best on his twitter the other day...
'"I'll wait for a dual-core.."-Steve
N1 is ahead of the game I would say. There will be other phones with the same hardware. No phone will ever be the first "superphone"!!!! N1 FTW!!!

When you say less than half, do you mean in comparison to the Nexus?
That's another point that has me leaning towards the Nexus. It's the first phone of its kind, so it will be getting a lot of attention with updates and what not.
I kinda worded that wrong ^, when I said less tham half - I meant the amount of RAM each phone will utilize. Most Android phones don't see to use their entire amount of RAM.. though, there have sadly been phones with literally twice as much RAM as the Nexus (1GB). (I was wrong here, it was ROM actually)
I guess I will just agree with Cyanogen, until dual-core phones come out - I will be sticking with the Nexus.
I think I'll be getting the Nexus then... I just need to sell my Hero now!
Who wants to buy it? Mint condition! Comes with a Zagg full body too!
On another note, the desire, while having sense is nice, and that 50mb of ram, its not a deal breaker as the nexus has noive cancellation along with a few other goodies the Desire will not have. Also, the desire can't run on ATT 3g!!
Put your Hero up for sale in the Marketplace forum section.
Agreed: I'll upgrade when there's a dual-core phone, not before. Anything until then will be marginal, super AMOLED and 46363576 GB of RAM or not (especially considering that Android still can't make use of even 512 MB of memory fully). Everything else, like Flash and divx/xvid support, is software-based and can/will be ported. The end.
I have a Magic and will most likely be picking up the N1. For me the determining factor is development activity, I want a device that the xda community can build around. It's comforting knowing that many of the top G1/Magic devs have upgraded to the Nexus and will be working with it for the foreseeable future.
The x10, Desire, Galaxy all look very impressive but if there's not substantial developer support amongst those devices then I'm not going to invest my money in them.

IS not that popular based on number of posts?

I busted up my Legend and I got a Nexus S as a replacement. This I returned because I didn't like it much, mostly because I didn't like the way it felt in my hand. (Too plasticy)
Now I'm in the market for a new Android phone and the IS is a potential new phone. But purely based on the number of posts here and the activity level in these posts, the IS is NOT a popular phone. What's up?
The two major reasons I think are:
This thing is very very new and it's only available in Europe at the moment.
If it's not popular, so what. Do you like it? If you don't, then don't buy it.
You have a valid point though if you buy a popular device, there will almost certain be lots of developing for it.
On the other hand this thing looks nice and techy, so I think/hope developers will like this thing.
Meh, the only major reason for me not to buy it was the locked bootloader, but it'll get cracked somehow.
Track and traced my order and the driver is on the way! Can't wait for that doorbell to ring
This thread is much, much more quiet
Desire S
I really think this thing is just to fresh out of the oven
One reason could be that the Desire S haven't come out for sale yet whereas the Inc S have been out for almost a month now.

My bad... I feel stupid
Right now the phone is still pretty new and it's only being sold overseas. This phone will take off more once it lands on Verizon in the states. Plus if you already have a phone that came out within the last year this phone wouldn't be that much of an upgrade. Plus a lot of people might be waiting to make their next jump to a dual core phone.
The NAM 3G version is going to launch on Virgin Mobile Canada sometime in the next month or two. Note that the Verizon version would be CDMA and should probably get a distinct subforum unto itself.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I'm getting the Indridible S, so that's settled. BUT it's because my Legend is busted. If it was still usable, I would have kept it. The Incredible S is just the only viable option right now.
"Plus the Incredible S lacks any unique differentiating features. You know, something like dedicated gaming keys (the XPERIA Play), or a Super AMOLED screen that can seal a deal by itself.
All that coupled with a high asking price like this makes the Incredible S a device that’s pretty hard to recommend. Of course, if your carrier offers it at a bargain price you may disregard this argument and get the handset – the solid smartphone experience is guaranteed.
Yet if you are looking for a SIM-free device and are paying full price, we feel there are better alternatives out there."
This is as true as it is sad....
Nexus S : Don't like the contruction, too much plastic, it's too "slippery" in the hands. My MAIN gripe is that they've moved the back button farthest away and it's the button you use the most.
Optimus 2X : Sorry, this is an ugly UGLY phone. The back looks like it something from 1994.
Xperia Arc : Too big, lovely phone.
Desire HD : Too big

I think this is an important point. Any one who has a higher end existing phone will be more likely to go for the dual cores. From what I've seen there isn't a big difference between the Desire and Incredible S prices compared to the new LG dual core phone, so who is going to buy a single core phone if that's the case? I would be happy with an Incredible or Desire S, but at a lower price than is currently being asked for... Let the prices start dropping now please.... I want a new cheap phone!

I had a T Mobile band Nexus One and didn't have any intentions of getting a new phone unless it was a major upgrade over the Nexus One. (Probably would have made the Pyramid or T Mobile GX2 my next phone this summer) Unfortunately I broke my Nexus One so the Incredible S was the best option for me at the moment. I still want a dual core phone but instead of making the jump this summer I'll probably make the jump early next year.
Waiting for some next-gen dualcore devices isn't a bad idea.
But the technology is still very new, and I would like to see the actual improvement of the use experience. Afaik apps have to be updated to support dualcore. Until I SEE something truly amazing, a significant speed change in the browsers rendering or something like that. Why would I need dualcore? Of course higher numbers are cool. But if it were to be same speed, more eyecandy. I'm perfectly happy with a single core.
It does what I wan't and it does it fast. Why dual core? Do we need it yet?
Is this phone much of an upgrade over the Desire? Am due a new phone but don't want to make the price jump to a dual core yet.
I cannot wait for this phone.
I used to have an HTC Touch GSM and was the best phone i've ever had,
I'm waiting for it to come to Bell with NAM 3G

You're right. There isn't a big need for dual core right now. The only real advantage I see to having dual core now is for the gaming aspect, but the high end game market is still in the early stages. As far everyday things like web, email, face book, you tube, Pandora, etc a single core phone does just fine.

If you have to get a phone now the Incredible S would be a good choice. I had a Nexus One, which is similar to the Desire, and went to an Incredible S. I was looking at the Nexus S also, but I prefer the build quality of HTC phones over the Samsung phones. Just a personal preference.

[Q] Should i buy a Galaxy Tab?

The topic says it all, with the current state of the tablet world, and understanding that when the Transformer Prime and its generation of tablets comes out the Gtab7 will be 2 generations behind, should i buy one ?
I can get one 2nd hand, for 150€ wifi+3g.
Is it worth it ?
if you can find one for a decent price, i'd say go for it... it might be worth checking the model of the one you want to buy to make sure developers support it if thats what you are after.
i just recently bought myself a galaxy tab 7 and im sure i'll get tons of use out of it. its such a nice size and portable, and the expericne is comparable to my phone, so nothing its too foreign like it is going from froyo to honeycomb or something.
i figure i'll keep this one until they come out with some decent 7 inch icecream sandwich tablets and i'll sell it and buy one of those. but i dont see one coming out that will thrill me much until at least mid next year.
i bought mine for about that same price (but in USD), honestly for me the instant i saw the deal it was far too good for me to resist.

I already own a HD2 (work phone) and a DHD (private phone), so the Tab will be a complement to this ecosystem. I like it not being too big, and yet not too small.
We can find tons of 7inch tablets, bat all of them have the same resolution has my phones, and i wish to AVOID pixels
Performance wise, is it still on par? Can i throw it the same things i can on my DHD ?
How do you expect the ICS support to be? We're talking about samsung turf, and they're currently the "good guys" on google eyes, so the systems will always be similar. Yet i remain renitent... I hope others will comment this thread
well if you are looking at the one of the first generations of galaxy tabs (the ones that come with android 2.2), then i think samsung will not officially be releasing ICS on it. however there are some people who are working on porting ICS to the tab. You can find more on that in the development section.
I have a samsung galaxy s, SCH-I500, same as the fascinate on verizons network i think...
the phone and the tab have nearly identical specs, but the tab does feel much smoother. probably due to the increased ram it has.
one thing you can always consider though. 200$ is a good deal, and for what you can buy it for, if it turns out you cant achieve the experience you want on it... how hard will it be to just turn over to someone for the cost you paid? or even a bit more?
i cant really speak for the hd2 or desire hd phones, as i've not played with either. but i suspect the fact that you'll be using the tablet for different purposes would still make it a good buy. so far i think all the apps i have on my phone have ported over to my tab with no issues, seeing as how its pretty much the same OS version.

I've come to accept that RAM is a major player on this OS. It's memory freak, but above a certain point, it's pointless of course (just like a PC).
As it stands, on 2.3.x, anything above 1gb is too much

ah... sorry about the dollar amount... i was doing a rough conversion. 150 euros is about 200 us dollars.
that's something that was kind of getting me discouraged about my search for a 7inch. the lowest price i found before the one i bought was i think 330 USD, which is about 100 more euros than your budget.
thats why the minute i saw the deal, i jumped on it right away.
one thing that seems to be unanimous though, is try and stay away from the wifi only versions of the tab, as they lack in updates (even from samsung), and have little to no 3rd party development.

Still, 150€/$200 is a very nice deal, i hope i can find one again.
BTW, how hard is it to sim unlock this things ?
i couldnt tell you how easy it is to sim unlock the tab... mine is a verizon wireless version, and they dont take sim cards... and i think its locked into their network.
GSM tabs are easy to unlock. Search the forums.
I've actually. Bought 3 of the original 7" tabs recently, all at or below $200 CDN. All were mint condition.
Why 3? Well. Friends keep wanting in on the great deal
The Galaxy tab, while older is still very capable. Compare it to the kindle fire or nook color at around the same price point.
Slap CM 7.1 or CM 9 and you're in a good spot.

Thoughts on 2X and your next phone?

The phones over a year old now. I only picked mine up used almost half a year ago for 200 USD. The phone's price really plummeted in just over half a year didn't it? Even now it hasn't dropped further as it hit its rock bottom way back then. High end phones that are older and with less specs cost the same as this as its really unpopular. An example being the Galaxy S.
So in a way its a pretty unsuccessful phone. Reasons? Software support has been terrible, suffering from radio issues. The stock firmware was appalling for a long time. Then the announcement ICS wasn't coming which soon after you saw the price hitting rock bottom. Leading to LG to counter its previous comment and proceed with ICS. Which it probably had no plans to before the backlash. Since the update was due rather late and has since been delayed a quarter.
Hardware wise its not bad. But still outdone by S2's larger screen, double ram and better camera.
All said i'm extremely happy with my first Android especially considering what I paid. But only with the developer support providing the best solutions. If I were a stock user i'd be sorely disappointed, only feeling better for the price.
In terms of my next phone, I want a larger screen 4.7ish but not pocket busting like the note. A better camera but equal to 2X is fine. More RAM because Opera Mobile keeps shutting down when I multitask out for a second, even with an extra 48mb ram hack. Amoled would be nice but not necessary, mainly for its benefits if its sunlight legibility is good. HD is unnecessary in my opinion.
As it stands I probably won't be upgrading for awhile until the likes of the S3 gets cheap. Except its design looks unprofessional. Optimus 4X anyone? :-D They couldn't make the same mistakes again right? Right?

i am happy with the phone. the only complaints are the screen outdors and the camera (well not the camera itself but the plastic cover that ruins the quality).
i dont even dare thinking about a new phone but seeing how fast the market moves today's pick will be outdated in 2 weeks.

some people arent that rich to change expensive phones every 12 months.
My next device will be WITH a good battery, a SD card slot (dumb htc with their one series..almost made them perfect), a good camera (likes of SGS3 or more likely htc one x), and an ARM cortex-a15 based cpu (or krait). and quite importantly, a wolfson micro sound chip (also supported by supercurio ) i dont want screens as large as 4,7 inches though
oh, and i hope it will be a nexus...i want good updates... fuuuu LG
this would be a freaking dream phone. but i aint buying anything until the 2x gives up on me, i still really like it
So far i had 2 android phones with the optimus being my second one. I have noticed that all those "specs" do not matter. What matters is a good software. Therefore i would move to a nexus devices when my optimus gets completely destroyed or really useless. No need to keep throwing money on phones if they cannot completely replace my laptop.
I will go for a SGS2 or 3 or a Nexus.
Hopefully soon. Tired of all the probs with my LGOS
currently, my o2x running temasek kang, it give me what i want to do
still waiting for the stable cm9, then will use it about a year
my next phone maybe the galaxy s4
I think I'm buying a S3 or nexus. And what Arkara said, I agree that specs don't matter as much as the software support.
Seeing as the S2 a friend of my has, still running stock since launch and no factory resets: Smooth as hell, fast and long battery. Galaxy Nexus is also stable.
Maybe my phone has a bad chip or something like that but the FD issues are to much and the battery life is overall the same for me no matter the BB or RIL. No more Tegra for me.

Nexus seems like the popular choice among us. I think specs matter still otherwise you wouldn't be after a high end phone. I personally have grown accustomed to CM's flexibility and features so i'm not really after software support. Except as we know in our 2X case it lacks drivers for us to update to.
Of course a stable good software release is important, afterall custom ROM users are a minor aspect in comparison to sales. But in the S3's case Samsung are trying to differentiate and add value through the software extras. That's great for most but if your not using it you're paying for nothing.
At least the idea behind the S2 was hardware and just the right software to make it run. This time around Samsung are making moves inspired by their biggest rival in their eyes, Apple. They like to poke fun and criticise Apple but they would prefer nothing more than to be them. The design, the marketing and the software are all in their footsteps.
What do 2X users here think of the iPhone anyway? I think it's like our polar opposite in the high end. The super expensive overrated and over hyped hardware with good closed software popular phone compared to the piss cheap higher spec phone with miserable software and success.

Well, they sure as hell have a long way to go as far as design goes. Pretty much all android phones do. They are butt ugly. The Optimus 2x is actually one of the prettier ones imo! The Galaxy S2 for instance is a design disaster.
I'm not a fan of the iOS, though. When I use it, on my Ipod Touch, I get the feeling that I am being treated like an idiot.
I will have a close look at the ASUS Padfone.
If it only had a 720p screen, I would have bought it.
When the Rumors about 5 new Nexus devices for Jelly Bean come true I hope ASUS makes one of the phones. I love their build quality and design. They also are the fastest when it comes to updates and patches.
I also think that the Optimus 2X is among the prettiest phones. This was the reason I picked it instead of the Galaxy SII (the price was similar at launch).
With CM7.2 UNOFFICIAL (I also use temaseks build) the phone is very good and I get a good battery life lately since I turn my phone off and back on right aufter I unplug it from the charger in the mornings. The only thing I don't like is the Battery life when I use it a lot for webbrowsing and games.
My next Phone will have a 720p display, a bigger battery and more RAM.
SD Card slot, swappable battery are things I would very much miss if they were not available on my next phone. Optimus 4X maybe, Huawei D Quad maybe, Jelly Bean Nexus possibly or the Padfone?
I´m tired of the 2x....
...because of the politics from LG.
The stects of that phone were really good, but as it was said before: Good software ist more worth than good hardware.
I think my next Phone will be the next SGS or a Nexus.
What i need:
SD-Card
huge RAM
720p Display
LTE
NFC
good Cam

Camera is good with official ROM, not so good with CM based ROMS.
Rather see if you can get Nexus 4. It's in your price range (actually depends on where you are, availability and price differs from country to country) and much better than all your options your considering.
http://www.google.co.za/nexus/4/
Most of those phones you are considering have been on the market a while and the older the device the smaller the community and slower the development gets as people get newer phones. If I had to choose one of them I'd choose the One S, no questions asked. Much faster than the competition, has official JB and is still fairly new.
F*ck Samsung .
Buy Acer cloudmobile s500.
Low-price and high performance... just perfect .
HTC One S no doubt
best dual core, i mean..... cortex a15...maaannn.....that was fast........

Unfornatuely the Nexus 4 costs €600 here thats far above my budget, also I am looking for smaller sized phones.
I just came across the Desire X. It fits all my requirements only thing is that currently almost no development
Thats why I asked u guys u have experience and optimus black was my 1st choice. But how bout the camera, is it good? and speed? I also see theres alot of development on the Optimus black, the white one also looks sexy:good:

Why should I buy an unkown brand in the smartphone community? And I thoguht Sasmung is known for his good wuality cameras / phones
It has been a very good phone for me you know. It has been with me for about one and a half years and it has come over a car crash, fallen into a pool, dropped a lot of times and in one of those it fell from a 1st floor directly to the ground. I had to change the gorilla glass screen which was about 30 us dollars. It has been an adventure and it continues. Camera is not the best but as any other bad mobile camera, it takes very good full light photos. There is still a hell of a development going on. It is just as fast as 80% of optimus 2x stock if you are running zeus rom with cpu at 1350Mhz. Screen has enough brightness, everything is big and legible and we are having official stock ICS modded in some days, actually now. What else can i say? I am not marketing this phone but it is a good buy. If you are looking for a fond working phone this might be your choice, believe me. If you are looking for a fast like hell phone just dont look for LG OB. Hope Ive helped.
PS: getting a GS2 wont hurt...

Sorry to hear that. It went for alot cheaper in some countries.
Desire X is a good choice HW wise. Not as good as the One S, but cheaper and doesn't have as big a screen. (The One S's graphics Chipset will run circles around all the other phones even the SGS2).
If you want a good community, look at previous flagship phones or really good for it's price phones of well known brands (Unknown brands tend to have much smaller communities).
This phone actually has a large Chinese community that doesn't interact with this forum much. I think I'm missing our sometimes since Google Translate can only do so much.
If you can afford it I would go for the One S.
Your Xperia Pro is on par with most of the other phones and I wouldn't pay money to get another similar phone. I don't think a upgrade is necessary actually.
I told ya.. best performance at that price :good: .
It`s released in September 2012, I guess that`s why there`s no developing topic in this community.
I guess they`ll add it to XDA soon, cause it`s a cool phone .
And it`s f*cking better than S2 .

Awesome phone, but doesn't have XDA page and probably very little community development atm. A little bit better than One S.

Im going for the one s then, but do you consider it as mid-range or high-end? Cuz im only 16, I dont need that great specs. Dual core 1ghz is also good ^^
Thanks alot bro:laugh::good:
What a pity acer cloud mobile has no development, else it will defenitely be my next phone :S

High-end.If you don't mind waiting you could see if the Acer's development picks up before making your final choice.
When buying a phone second hand make sure it hasn't been tinkered and OC'ed and with HTC make sure it's still S-ON that way you know it hasn't been tinkered with.

Yes. I'm not sorry about it, but it's getting old. Quite a few great devs moved on already. Theres still plenty of skill and commitment here though and we might be getting official CM10.1 soon (G+ pictures from official dev has already been posted, but no nightlies appeared yet).
Lol....
No guys, its not the Htc one S.
I went back to Xperia P, again.Yes, first time I got it on summer but traded it for Xperia Pro. Now 4 months without smartphone and of research.. I REALLY regret I was so stupid! [at that time there wasnt any development]
I mean 8mp camera, dual core and handsome: the perfect phone!
Only thing is battery, isnt it replaceble with a 1750 li-on??
If you want long lasting battery, go witg Motorola Razr MAXX lol dunno if its in your price range though. But yeah One S looks superb. Hmm..
