[Q] SLOW 3G! - LG Revolution

I dont know what is up but my 3g speeds are so slow... I have three bars and my speed test is at .3 mbs my upload is at .5 mbs does any one know of a fix?

It could be the tower you are acessing has low bandwidth availability. With that said I had the same issue and it turned out to be a DNS issue. With the suggestion from another revo user I installed setdns and changed the default DNS to Google DNS servers. Of course this app requires root but I have noticed a tremendous improvement after installing it.

Let us know your results. The only thing I don't like about google dns is that i'm afraid there collecting information in me.... Oh well

My 3G is fine but I get horrible 4G speeds. Even if I'm at 3-4 bars, it runs at 3G speeds.

Yea iv been having the same issue and I loose my data connection a lot
Sent from my VS910 4G

The latest version of SETDNS doesn't work properly. It request superuser permissions for everything.
Also, DNS improves browsing speed, but not bandwidth tests.
For the REVO I recommend using DNS Changer

You could also use OpenDNS if you'd like.

Que hot how to lower ping using wireless tether?

Hey I've been playing cod2 online a lot on my computer lately and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to lower my ping usually it stays under 300 but evryonce in awhile it'll randomly jump above 500 and the ping police get me and I get kicked of the server so I was wondering if there were any tweaks I could do to wirless tetherfrom Google like changing frequencys exc
BTW I'm Mr. Melee on alteriwnet if anyone wants to.hit me up.

Wow. You can tether COD over your phone? Hot damn that's a good speed! I get crap over here. :'(
Yea its actually not that bad lol
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
Yeah, well I envy your speed brother. As for the tether, I don't think nothing can be done besides hardware check and phone positioning. There might be something out there that, if installed, would make your wireless access card run more effeciently with the rooted wireless tether program, but I'm not sure.
However, in your search you DO find a solution, let us know! I'll be having this Hero until a dual core comes out, so I got plenty of months ahead!
Will do

Engadget loading really slow

For some reason engadget does not load or it is very very slow
this happens time to time on other sites also.
yahoo/google load up fast as anything but there are lags on other sites.
anyone else having this problem?
Hrm... Miren will not load anything for me right now,
I opened "web" and google/engadget/yahoo etc came right up. That is annoying...
Edit: wtf Miren working fine on Wifi. Tried clearing Miren data I can get to google and google stuff, but can't get engadget or newegg or yahoo to load.
Edit2: Well than I tried Web again and it didn't load so it appears I may be having data issues anyway at the moment.

I wasn't, this is the first problem I have had but I typically have poor data at work (i work in a school, giant brick enclosure) and so far the Skyrocket has been wayyy better at work but today I had some data issues. I haven't had a chance yet to mess with it more.

awesome speeds are def consistent now!
This is happening to the Vivid as well I was told ATT was working on a fix
hmm seems im not the only one with a problem, i damn near went to best buy to swap the thing for another.
Called AT&T, they asked me if I can try that sim out on a Vivid at the store to see if I get the same problems. If it does, they'll swap out the sims or if it doesn't, they'll swap the phones. I know it's not the phones. They even said themselves that the "pta" network is brand new so they're still working out the kinks.
I wouldn't have called if the "change your APN" settings had working MMS capabilities. It doesnt, and I really do need that.
Just went and swapped out for a new vivid and LTE sim card. Same problems. Me and the rep checked the 4 phones on display, 2 skyrockets and 2 vivids , all were showing the same problems.
This is in Frederick, MD.

International note with rogers canada?

Anyone useing the international galaxy note with canadas rogers carrier? If so is there 3g data networks and cellular network working fine on the note or do you have to add the rogers apn settings for data? Any good rom recommendation for the canadian international note user? Thanks and hope this was not asked already

I didn't have to input any apn. Not sure if you will have to with a Rogers sim. Data speeds are good. Slightly better than my Galaxy Nexus.

You may have to... just Google them, aren't hard to find at all. I'm awaiting my note as well (putting it on Rogers too)
You might want to disable fast dormancy on the Rogers network with the N7000. It should help your battery life a bit.

Fast Dormancy is a protocol established between the cell masts and the radio in your phone. It allows both ends of the data transfer to co-ordinate switching between high and slow speed data modes. If your carrier supports it then it can save battery power, running at the less energy intensive slower data speeds when you aren't transferring large amounts of data and switching the HSPA+ when needed.
If your carrier does not support it then you typically will see slightly reduced battery life with it on.
As far as I know, in Canada, only the Bell/Telus network support it.

Wow, thanks. Notice my smiley face at the end of my sentence?
Install a browser on your phone and search. It's not hard. Shows what a person gets for trying to help someone out. I gave you an explanation you asked for but I am not going to spoon feed you too.
Canadians are generally known for being polite and kind. So much for that assumption. Must be some sort of stereotype like beavers and polar bears.

Back on topic, you can definitely use this phone with Rogers. Just tried it with a Rogers sim and the apn appeared after a few seconds. Enjoy!

Does HSDPA work? (H3G Italy)

Ok fact is: I did lots of tests over 3G but I never ever got over 5mbits tops (2AM tests)
Does it really work up to 7.2Mbits?
Anyone got experience of this?

The providers always write "up to" for a reason. You're most likely never going to reach that speed but that's how high it goes.

Yeah know the marketing, mate.
But since H3G also sells 42mbits internet keys I figured someone lucky must have seen faster speeds...
Otherwise it would mean they don't have the infrastructure.
And if so newphones would be a waste (thinking about getting a galaxy nexus)
By the way isn't there an app to show the connection speed like for wifi?

I assume that the people that actually pay for 42mbps should get speeds near to that. You're paying for 7.2mbps, correct? So about 5mbps is totally fine. There are apps to test your speed. Just search "Speedtest" on the market.

I was looking for something that showed the actual 3G stream speed, like you see 54mbits on wifi links (or even better the modulation!)

If yes you can't see over 7.2 Mbps because the specifications of the modem.
Download HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps
Upload HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps

Post your speedtest speed.

There is something that can improve the perceived speed, but at the end it comes down to the raw network speed. And many times it's not the connection slow, but the sending server that is slow.

Well its good over mobile networks!
Mobile network is easily faster than my home broadband. (Thanks to old fashioned copper)
Averages:
Mobile Network
Download: 8.99Mb/s
Upload: 2.26Mb/s
Home broadband
Download: 4.58Mb/s
Upload: 0.79Mb/s
Realistically you guys are thinking I've got the results mixed, Unfortunately i can reassure you i haven't. See the attachment. :good:

We're talking about the network speed, not the phone's. My phone has already been buttery smooth even when I was on ICS.
But showing speed test results aren't gonna help you anything with this phone. Your network speed is a 'given' situation where you don't have control over it unless you're willing to pay some more money to see improvement. I'm one of the lucky dude in my country to have constant 12 mbps network speed but I don't need to boast that here as I don't think it's gonna contribute anything to other users. Unless we come up with some tweaks of this phone to improve your network speed, I've always thought this kind of thread is useless.
