check the log, superuser is installed after mounting /system with read-write access. afaik there is no way to install the superuser with /system mounted as read-only! it requires root to mount /system as read-write.
how to install the drivers?

Hello everyone,
i've got a European Samsung Galaxy S with this 2.1 firmware and it's working with no problems:
PDA I9000XWJM2
PHONE I9000XXJM1
CSC I9000NEEJM1
i tried to update my phone to Android 2.2 via Kies but my phone just doesn't get recognized by the computer in Kies Mode or MTP mode, i have the latest version of Kies 1.5.3
and i even tried to download many drivers packages or manually extract the drivers from Kies and manually install it via device manager.. also all of this doesn't work!
i noticed something weird with my phone when it connects to Kies and the computer is trying to install drivers, the blue screen of the USB cable on the phone keeps disappearing and reappearing repeatedly and i hear a sound of plugging and unplugging from the computer.. it keeps doing so in MTP mode and kies mode, but not in USB mass storage mode as it works normal..
i thought even if i could get the driver to work my phone maybe has an issue with it's original firmware or something..
note that i haven't modded this firmware or rooted it before, this is what came with the phone..
another thing i've tried to enable the 3 button fix the download mode.. but it needs a rooted phone, so again tried to root with the SuperOneClick it works with some command lines appear but it just keeps looping through them and connect and disconnect forever..
i even want to make the lag fix but i can't too..
i'm very frustrated and i'm thinking to sell the phone as i can't do anything with it i can't upgrade it or even fix the lag, the phone is working but doesn't like to be connected to the computer!
...
i would be thankful for your advices
is my phone has a fixable issue or it's useless..
I would love to he anr to this. I am on the same boat.
Few things you could try...for USB disconnects!
1. Uninstall previous Drivers and Reinstall with new Samsung Drivers
2. Go to Device Manager in Windows (presuming you are using Windows)
Uninstall all The USB Root HUB's and everything else under the tab if you can, dont worry Windows will install again on startup
Once all is uninstalled ..Reboot!
3. Try a different cable
Hope some of this helps
Did you tried this

Hi,
I've tried using a lot of root programs, SuperOneClick and some other methods. They just won't work. I also get a 3e Recovery problem.
If someone can lend me a hand to root my phone, that would be awesome.
Model Number - SAMSUNG-SGH-I896
Firmware - 2.2
Baseband Version - I896UXJL1
Kernal Version - 2.6.32.9
Build Number - FROYO.UXJL1
Please help, I've tried using USB Debugging Mode, Recovery Mode, Re-Formatting first then try to root but it all doesn't work.
If it helps my phone is from Rogers.
Thanks,
use superoneclick version 1.95
it works to root just fine
Trying it out right now, I've tried 2.2 and 2.1 but haven't tried 1.95. Will get back to you, right now it's just stuck on waiting for device...

this sounds like a problem with your computer. i have never had any problems using SuperOneClick...
This is what is right now ..
On the other computer ..
Maybe at that point where it is hanging (step 7) "unplug your phone, go into settings, uncheck and check usb debugging again, then plug back in. At this point it will continue with the root. It will send a test to your phone and you may or may not have to click allow for Superuser." quoted from CrossCut49 over in the sgs II forum. But worth a try.
edit: And if that fails to work, U can use the FuguRoot Mod method to get Root -- see thread here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14794703&postcount=1. (Don't mess with the "BIG Download Link" that is the kf1 firmware download. Just use the zImage-root.tar file that is attached to the OP). It is a kernel swap method. All u need to do is Odin the zImage-root.tar file (it goes in the PDA slot of Odin). It will bootloop after it flashes (that is what it is supposed to do). Pull battery/replace and get back into download mode. Then u just reflash the stock i896uxjl1 kernel.tar through Odin. And u r Rooted.
I will attach the Stock jl1 kernel for ya. And the Odin to use. (open up .zip to get Odin out.)

I now have SU by using SuperOneClick. I tried to unROOT but every time I finish and restart, SU is still there. I am having problems with my wifi, it won't connect in, it will be stuck at OBTAINING IP ADDRESS ...
Geez one problem after the other ...
Why r u trying to unroot now, after having such a hard time to get root ??
For ur wifi issue, Reboot ur modem/router and reboot ur phone.
Thanks for the reply, I know, just got the phone rooted and then trying to unroot. I'll try turning off my router when I get home, hope that works.
How do you check ROOT is still on the phone? Is it because of SU?
When I try to Reinstall Package from Recovery I still have a 3e recovery problem..
EDIT: What happens if you root your phone once, but by accident pressed ROOT again?

nothing will happen.
wifi not working is NOT caused by rooting the phone.
when you root a phone you are adding, literally, 2 files to your phone. /system/bin/su and /system/app/Superuser.apk
these 2 files have no bearing on network connectivity
as for your problem with recovery 3e, there are plenty of tutorials on how to fix that. root is required to bypass recovery 3e, OR you can flash a custom kernel (all custom kernels contain clockworkmod in them)
So any ideas how to fix the Wifi on my phone? I tried my school network and at home. Same problem.

On Sony's site, it says to install the android_winusb.inf-file after holding the volume up and inserting the USB but when I do that, Windows says it couldn't install the driver, and then the phones blue LED turns orange. Someone mentioned I need to install the Flashtool drivers first but I can't find it, can someone help?
EDIT: I managed to find the flashtool drivers and I installed it, and still, when I try to install the driver for fastboot, it says it wasn't able to. What do I do?

So install PC companion > Flashtool drivers > Fastboot?
I tried installing PC Companion and even after, when I tried to install the android_winusb.inf-file it shows the same thing as I mentioned above
EDIT;
Okay, so I think I managed to figure it out, incase someone else has this problem, here's what I did;
Download Flashtool, go to C:\Flashtool\drivers, click the exe file to install the drivers, when it asks what drivers to install choose the "Xperia TX" and the "Fastboot" drivers. Then, press the volume up button and insert the USB and it'll say the fastboot drivers installed correctly and then you can proceed with unlocking your bootloader!
