Huzzah! New phone, new forum! - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Got my Vivid yesterday and voted for the new forum before bed last night. XDA never disappoints!
So far, I've been very happy with look, feel, and performance, but I did catch a random reboot this morning. Not sure what happened there.
Anyone else surprised at the lack of cases on Amazon? Even Otterbox.com said 'coming soon' when they had their case in the AT&T store when I picked it up. I just didn't want to pay 45 for a case. Got a couple of cheapies for the wife and myself until I see what else is going to be available.
How's everyone else liking the Vivid? Any oddities or complaints?

Theres an awesome htc case up here in Canada you can order from bell. even has a built in kickstand, i should have mine this week.

Nice, that was pretty fast to get our own forum! Can't wait till my Vivid comes in the mail tomorrow or Wednesday!

So far I have had the phone since 1 or 2pm yesterday and Not one issue yet. Picked it up at Best Buy for $99.99. AT&T is selling them for that price in my area so Best Buy had to price match. Came from an Atrix 2 and truthfully this one is winning considering I had to return 3 Atrix 2's because of hardware issues. Regardless though I love that this phone already had some cases available on the day of purchase as opposed to how motorola did it. I will say this phone is quite smooth and I am guessing once custom Roms and OC comes around this phone will be a rocket. Especially when CM7 hits although I tend to like Sense even though I tend to switch roms quite a bit.

Nexus One market life span?

Hey guys,
I've been looking to buy a Nexus, however Im hesitant because of all the rapid improvements to smart-phones lately. Seems like just yesterday my G1 was the **** because of its 528mhz processor.. But if I were to lay down the $500+ for it, I would hate for the "Nexus 2" to come out a month later.. accompanied by the regret and face palms. Of course, I'm not expecting that specific scenario to unfold, but how long do you think the specs for the N1 will last as a competitive player in the field? And do you think it's safe to say the upcoming android updates we have yet to experience will be compatible with it?
-Thanks for your input!
The Nexus One is a great phone, but as with the G1 ALL technology is eventually replaced, I chose the nexus one becuase its Googles phone, which means if any phone has a chance to still be the beta tester for all android things to come it would be the nexus one. The Evo and Incredible are all basically re-branded Nexus One's, same hardware different software. The nexus one was my first smartphone, actually my first phone ever (my parents hate tech lol) and I've seen people with their iphones and bberries and I pull out my nexus one and KNOW without a shadow of a doubt I have the best phone. If the nexus one looks appealing to you and you are happy with what it can do, I say you wont be dissapointed. But, if you are hesitant and iffy on the purchase, perhaps wait and see whats around Androids corner. I love my nexus one and from what I see from competitive android smartphones and still think mine is the best.
-Cheers with your decision
Sell your G1, use the money towards the N1... Do it soon, buying the N1 via google won't last much longer, once retailers get ahold of it it'll cost considerably more.
The rumor/heresay is that the N2 will be out in Nov. Then just repeat the cycle of selling old, use money towards the new one.
Kind of like you're leasing the best phone at the moment
If you say n2 will come and will wait, and when the n2 comes out ou can wait for the n3. you can do two things.
Buy a new phone, and sell it after few months to buy a new one. if you sell it before a newer version comes out you can sell it almost the same price you bought it. put some extre $ and buy a new one. I do this > i had over 30 phones in my life > i'm 22 years now
or what you also can do is skip a generation. so if you buy n1 skip n2 and wait for n3 (for example). so you can use you don't have to switch phones that often.
I bought the N1 as my first smartphone and have been very happy with it. I would say it will last a while since Google demonstrated their new OS (Android 2.2) on it and also previewed the release after that on a N1. That gave me hope to know that it will work with the release of 2.2 and also the release after that. Whether they will continue to release the new OS for it after that is unknown, but there are always custom ROMs that could add functionality.
Go For It
I say buy the N1 if you like it. Yeah, there's no front-facing camera, gyroscope, or whatever else the next line of premium Android phones will all contain. It is still going to receive Google's updates first for at least another year. Also, as with the G1, the dev community is doing excellent work and should have no problem extending it's life even further beyond that. If the G1 is still going almost 2 years and numerous updates later, Nexus owners have nothing to worry about.

I don't think so. It will be aggressively priced once it hits retailers. Or may be bundled with some accessories.
Either act today, or wait 6 months. This market moves fast.
seriously this thread has been posted so many times before. just search. the nexus will be the flagship until next january for sure. it still has a long life left, so buy it and enjoy it. nexus two isnt even a rumor yet, and wouldnt be out till next year.
Motorola has a 2ghz phone hitting store before the end of the year, with 1080P vide out.
You're never gonna be "top of the line" for more than 6 months.

I already see it listed at various other places for $650+.
Somehow, I doubt that will come down once buying straight from the "manufacturer" for "cheap" is no longer an option.

[Q] Purchase new Nexus One in UK?

Hi,
Anyone have any idea where I can pick up a new, stock Nexus One in the UK? I lost mine a few months back, and I just can't fall in love with the iPhone4 I replaced it with.
I don't want a Vodafone bastardised one. Needs to be stock, unlocked and unrooted, and I'd like to know if I'm buying AMOLED or LCD ideally.
I know the Nexus S is coming, but I loved the build quality of the Nexus One.
Thanks.
Hey, ive got a IMMACULATE condition nexus one its less then 6 months old bought straight from google america webstore.
I am thinking of getting a iphone4. Would you be interested in a straight trade?
Bought a brand new one on eBay for 320 quid this Thursday. You can get one for 399 "buy it now" or hunt for a better bargain (and wait a little longer).
Thanks for the replies.
Syed, I reckon the iPhone 4 is worth a fair bit more than the N1, so I'll probably flog it on Ebay. Plus i really want a BNIB one.
Cheers.
haha lol woops fair point iphone4 is worth more definately, i meant nexus and cash.
But yeah if your after a totally brand new one then its upto you, all the luck anyway
Hunt in ebay. Close to £260 you'll get BNIB. I paid only 230 back in july.
Bit of a nightmare trying to find what I'm after on Ebay!
I'm after a T-Mobile bands version with AMOLED screen. Most sellers don't bother to say whether it's ATT or T-Mobile, and if the screen is SLCD or AMOLED.
And half don't even bother to say if it's a crappy Vodafone version.
I wish life were simpler! I wish I'd never lost my N1 :-(
Lol bit of a cheeky comment here but if you are interested in even having a look at how new mine looks i could always list some photos up? As i mentions is a defo AMOLED ordered straight from Google so its defo unlocked, etc

[Q] In today's market would you buy a brand new Nexus One?

I'm curious - if you had no working handset at the moment, had to pay full price for a handset, and didn't want to buy who potentially might be someone else's trash off Ebay or Craigslist, would you pay $265 for a BRAND NEW Nexus One ?
I had one when they first came out, and then moved up to newer and "better" handsets, either brand new or used....
My latest, the G2, which was bought off Craigslist, fried after 2 weeks of having it. I've already talked to HTC, but then say I'm looking at being without a phone for 2-3 weeks before a replacement will arrive.
So, knowing everything that is out right now, and everything that is coming, would you pay $265 for a brand new Nexus One , or shell out $500+ for a "current" or soon to be released handset?
Nexus......other than the evolution 3d or sgs2 or even maybe iPhone 5.
Edit: actually....I will by the nexus. It get quick updates plus is very hackable. Also I will be saving.up for the nexus 3!

N1 anyday ...
Nexus One everyday at that price!
Just bought my wife a G2 to replace her (submerged) MT4G.
I would've preferred to get her a Nexus (still like the N1 better than both of those). The only reason I didn't was because I didn't want her to have the same phone as me - that's one of the advantages of not having a phone from the fruit company...
Without hesitation! I can't see what any new device has to offer that i don't have already.
Biggest benefit I can see of the newer devices is FFC , more RAM, and Dual-Core CPUs...
I've been thinking about it though - other than a larger screen, the N1 did everything I wanted it to do. Only complaint I had was when I held the phone to my face with my right shoulder, because the 2nd mic on the back was covered by my shoulder, everyone I talked to said I sounded really muffled.
its a pretty hard deal to pass up getting a new nexus one at 250 dollars. you cant go wrong if you do get it. newer phones like the galaxy s2 have better gaming. but really i'd get the n1 again today if i had to.

Lg Thrill 4G hitting stores this Sunday!!!! For AT&T

Looks like the wait is over... for everyone excited about getting the US version of the optimus 3D you will be happy to know there will be no more delays...
I visited the radioshack store where I placed my pre-order weeks ago... the manager informed me they just recieveid word from att to expect their shipment for the Sunday release..
The delays were apparently due to three factors if I remember corectly.... one as noted by several phone reviewers there was a small defect on select devices rendering a yellowish hue on the bottom of the screen... also LG was supposed to have a manufacturers deal with Corning, the makers of Gorilla Glass... the deal was somehow last second at risk and LG was pondering having to raise the price on the phone... finally they were going to give the Thrill an OTA update to Gingerbread... but decided on releasing it with the latest OS right off the bat.
Those of you who may remember LG promised about the optimus 3D that the gingerbread update would contain the ability to give any app created with OpenGL to take advantage of the 3D glasses free display... even if it had not been programmed to do this from the app creators... hopefully this ability will crossover into the identical cousin the Thrill...
So great news for all you patient upgraders and smartphone junkies... your wait is over!!!
I have an upgrade available and currently still debating on weather to get this phone or wait for the SGSII....
they're selling it for $29 at Costco at some locations in the South.
YMMV though.
Stopped at radioshack where I preordered it... I was the only one... haha they could sell it to me today but I left my giftcard at home... I will pick it up tomorrow... it still had froyo on it and it was surprisingly thin and lightweight... I really liked it... superr fast!!!! Everyone in the store wanted to play with it hahaha...

I picked one up at radioshack (target kiosk) today for 49.99

is the screen gorilla glass?
costco 29.99 and free accesories...I picked it up 2 days ahead of time...I think the gingerbread release will make the phone better. It feels slugish compared to my inspire..but love it...I know custom roms will make this greater...
Looks good to me. I may get one. I have an upgrade due.

Wait for the SGS2 (supposedly coming in two weeks on the 18th) then play with both in store.
I came from a Captivate and had an Infuse for two weeks before returning it for the Thrill. I was contemplating the same thing, but there were two factors that did it for me.
Memories in 3D - I took a test picture of my daughter at the store and was sold from that moment. She's two years old, and while handsets with better 3D capabilities are forthcoming, she won't be two forever. Since I'm pretty sure all TVs in the future will eventually be 3D capable, having these pictures is priceless to me, even if the pictures aren't the best. While the SGS2 will definitely be a "hot" phone, it can't ever have 3D capabilities.
Sufficient Specs - While it's not a "beast" in terms of hardware, I thought long and hard over what I really needed. 1GB of RAM on the SGS2 versus 512MB dual channel on the Thrill. I wanted the 1GB of the SGS2, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that for today and the coming months, I would probably never use that much memory. Heck, my Infuse wasn't really experiencing any slowdowns, and that's single core.
So in the end I decided to sacrifice "cutting edge" (which in reality is still like 6 months old) for 3D capabilities.
I'd recommend that you try them both out, if you're not in a hurry.
I thought I'd miss the screen of the Infuse a lot, and while it was a great screen, it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. Your mileage may vary.

From what I'm told, no. The AT&T store had a pack of three screen protectors for $10, so I picked them up along with a case when I returned my Infuse.
Got my LG Thrill yesterday and I hoped it would be a replacement for my iPhone 4. I like it so far but compared to my iPhone 4 its about the same.
I too want to see a Thrill section as well.
thnx.
Thanks for clarifying that it is not gorilla glass......time to get a screen protector

US Preorder Delays

Just got this email from Best Buy... Anyone else delayed? There's a small thread on reddit too. Maybe there aren't that many preorders...
https://i.imgur.com/q8OEjqL.png
Haven't you heard? The NSA/FBI/CIA declared Huawei devices "bad" last week. Maybe since then, there was a loss of demand? Or perhaps the converse is true and there was a spike of demand and they can't keep up?
Anyway, whatever the cause for delay, that stinks for those who preordered. I'm really interested in this phone, and was hoping to start seeing reviews from US people. I also noticed on Amazon it now says "ships when available in 1-2 days."
Ordered on Amazon with $150 gift card from Amazon for free 2 weeks ago, got it today, using on straight talk gsm, phone is super smooth and very fast, especially fingerprint touch to unlock is extremely fast, came with screen protector installed and also a transparent phone case included, fast charging is very fast.
Crap I should have gone through Amazon then BestBuy still says they'll have my device on Thursday
Yes delayed as well through Best Buy, and I ordered the day it became available.
preordered through amazon and got mine yesterday, the grey one now says 1-2 months, they have a couple of the blue ones left, they probably sold all their advance stock in preorder.
Great phone btw, few quirks and the camera could be better but its excellent.

Delivery on Presidents day?
On the truck today for Best Buy preorder.
I just got my Best Buy PreOrder. The ETA was for Thursday. Got the message that it was ready for pickup this morning. Got my Best buy gift card a few hours later
I preordered on Amazon the day preorders started - originally was slated for Feb 20th delivery but i actually got it release day the 18th. Also placed a best buy preorder as a backup which was ready on 18th as well, but i cancelled since i got it from amazon sooner than expected
I ordered the international dual sim version on Amazon and got it quickly. Have had it over a month now. Has a couple of little quirks, but overall I'm impressed with the battery life and smoothness.
I know everyone has their own taste, but for anyone living in the States and has the option to buy the Google Pixel anywhere you want and instead you choose Huawei? For me it's a mystery beyond the laws of physics, Pixel beats Huawei on everything except the looks of the phone.
OK I know there has been some trouble with the pixel screens, but why would you choose a phone that is inferior?
I have had the mate for 3 months now, and the phone drives me crazy with Huaweis way of doing it, they are totally different from the other manufacturers. So many bugs and they haven't fixed a single one of them.

I don't understand why people think that their opinion MUST be there right one..
But, having just bought a M10P, I can happily answer that for you.
- Better camera (the dual camera setup for sure makes better shots, combined with optical zoom and a better portrait mode)
- Non rounded screen corners (opinion, but I can't stand the corners)
- More Ram (6gb vs 4gb)
- Kirin 790 as fast or faster as the SD835
- Bigger battery (as I type, 3:50 SOT, still at 69% left...)
- Cat 18 modem vs Cat 15
- Same size screen, smaller body (not much, but still)
- 20+W fast charging
- IR blaster (seriously.. not having to grab a remote when my phone is nearby.. sweet..)
- Dedicated AI assistance chip (again, does some.smart things with photos and translation)
- Stupidity fast fingerprint reader (not sure if the pixel is as fast.. but this speed really impressed me)
- Desktop mode when using HDMI out
- I love the design over the XL..
I have no doubt you will try to argue my points, but they are my valid reasons, and I have no complaints or second guesses on my purchase. I got it for 650 (800+150 gift card from Best buy), and feel the value is just fine too. Sorry, but the world would be borring if we all thought the same.

Inferior is your opinion. But my biggest reasons are storage, price and battery. That is when Amazon finally ships mine. Ordered on the 4th and they still haven't shipped it.
