Have you tried sing the media net APN? I got mine to tether without the plan

Apn Tether
Yes, I have tried it and it worked great for about half a day. Then once i tried turning it on and got the "you need a tether plan from At&T" message. I tried everything, restarting, deleting the apn and making it again, nothing. The only thing I can think of is part of the instructions said I had to set an APN protocol if it was applicable. This was not one of the settings I saw so I just assumed I didnt need it. Could that be the problem?

That's strange tho because I have used those tether apps on other htc phones and they have never failed

for usb tethering easy tether (http://www.mobile-stream.com/easytether/android.html) works great for me. i bought the full version for my aria and now vivid, love it. pricy at $9.99 per device but as much as i use it, it's well worth it for reliability.
I had to install it on my aria using the side loading wonder machine (google it). but on the vivid when i paid for it online it downloaded from the market over the air.

i don't have LTE to test it but i would think so, if i switch to wi-fi the tether still functions. i guess i'm saying as long as you are online this program would be too.

usb only.
i appears at&t didn't lock down the hotspot functionality so, I assume you can use it just fine.
i haven't tested that yet either

Tried the Wifi hotspot functionality and AT&T has it locked down as well.

PDANET
PDANET works great for tethering!!!! no root required and no custom apn settings and it works with LTE

The downside of PDAnet is there is software on the PC/MAC side. I only want it on the phone. Im not always at the same tablet/computer etc.

If you have a better solution share it I would like to get rid of the pc/Mac software side also!!!!

I think we need root

I'm waiting for either the Skyrocket to be released in white or if the permanent root gets released for the vivid. Really like the Vivid and actually seems to have better stand by battery than the SR.

[app] TURN YOUR SPRINT EPIC 4G INTO A VERIZON PHONE!!!!

A friend of mine gave me this awesome app that basically lets your phone roam on Verizons network! This is by far the best app I've used. I work at the lower level at my job so my phone is constantly scanning towers and has poor signal while on the sprint network. The end result is excessive battery drain. When I force roam on verizon's network, I get a full 5 bars and my battery lasts 50% longer. Attached is the apk. Enjoy! (This requires root access)
Edit: Sorry guys, I was told that this is a paid app so it has to come down.
Reversable?

Seems to work to switch but for some reason my cell phone will not get any service at all with ROAM ONLY toggled
works fine in automatic and in home only modes
I have 3-5 bars sprint service here but I find it hard to believe there would be no verizon service here and for that I think that this may not be working for me properly not saying it doesn't work just saying it doesn't seem to be working for me.
I am home at my house btw

Be careful. I've heard if you are on roaming for too much of the month, sprint will cancel your service.

Yes, that is correct. Please only use this in areas where sprint service is unavailable or poor. Do not leave it on roam all the time. I only use it at work and I hardly make calls while on it. I just enjoy the extended battery life without having to go on airplane mode. As soon as I leave work, I put it back to automatic.
Thank you,
Thank you so much, I never have a good reception at home and as soon as I changed it to roam only with this app, it was like BAM! 3~4 bars.

sweet thanks, i'll check it out.
The app works just as advertised, but is there any way to automate it, or a similar app that has that feature?
Meaning, my work building is like the Sprint service black hole, but I get perfect service when roaming on Verizon's tower. Yes, I could manually switch using this app every time I get to work to save battery and then manually switch when I leave, but I'd love if there was a way to make this app do it automatically or another app that has that feature where it would always switch to whatever tower had the strongest signal strength.
Is there anything out there?

But can Verizon not see this and charge me loads of money for doing this?
Just got 8mb/s while wifi tethered to my bionic's 2 bar 4g signal. Nice!
Is the data usage trackable by verizon? Their has been a concern with tethering because some say verizon can tell the difference between normal phone data usage compared to tethered data usage.
i'm not an expert by any means, but I used wifi tether all the time on my D1 and had zero issues with verizon.
i also know that before this update, wifi tether would activate the native HotSpot app and not let you connect. I'm banking on the fact that wifi tether now bypasses the hotspot app, we're in the clear...
Again, these are just my thoughts, not confirmed to my knowledge.. (but i'm also saying with all the wifi hacks, we would have heard of someone getting caught by now)

Or maybe that's Verizon's way of getting us to think we're in the clear, to lure us all into breaking contract and cancelling our free data plans!
I'm pretty sure they can tell, I just don't think they care unless you get stupid with it. We are after all a very small percent of their user group.

He means unlimited data. We have unlimited 4G data instead of having to pay per MB.
Well, I decided I would take a bullet. I let a friend tether on her laptop for a while. If Verizon charges me, we'll know, and I'll chalk it up to experience. If they don't sweet, and I'll let everyone know.

i can confirm that this works to tether to any device. sometimes you have to change the default gateway (192.168.11.100 to .13.1 etc)
i've been using it as a replacement to home internet for a couple months now.
no word from verizon, and i called them the other day about adding a line / other stuff.

Nexus 4 Tmobile support docs - Wifi calling confirmed ?

Just checked Tmobile support site and they already uploaded Nexus 4 support documents.
Tmobile support site /docs/DOC-5015 (sorry, not enough posts count to post link.)
Wifi calling is clearly listed there and supported. (In contrast, Visual VM is listed as not support)
They require a TM9-177 sim card but the 99c microSIM from Tmobile is TM9-190. Not sure if that will make a diff.
Keep my fingers crossed for now.
Here's the link
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5015#WiFi_Calling
I realize the answer is probably no but still want to ask. Would a straight talk t mobile sim enable WiFi calling? If not where does WiFi calling start (eg t mobile prepaid, two year contract)?

T-mobile's 99 cent sim card is full size. the 177 may be the micro version. I plan to cut my own.
It appears to be a setting on the OS itself, like a voip setting:
see below: there is no wifi calling app:
Set up Wi-Fi / Internet Calling
To turn on Wi-Fi Calling, follow these steps:
Important: To use Wi-Fi Calling, you must register your 9-1-1 address at my.t-mobile.com. If you have not registered your address, your phone will display a red Wi-Fi Calling icon. When you open the Notification screen, you will see the following error message: Wi-Fi Calling error. Error: REG09 "Missing911 Address."
From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
Tap the Menu icon.
Tap Settings.
Scroll to and tap Internet call settings.
Under Account, set up a new calling account with information specific to your calling plan..

Again, T-Mobile is not allowed to mess with the software or Google wouldn't let them sell it. So WiFi calling in an app form will not happen. What the user said above about setting up WiFi calling is different, and that is fine since its within the software
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G
Exactly, I have made the imp information bold now. Document does not say launch wifi calling app to enable it. There is no wifi calling app installed. It says go to Phone app and set it up. Looks like tmobile is using Androids VOIP feature?

I don't think you quite understood my question. Straight talk works on both tmobile and att depending on the sim you get. My questions is if you can use the wifi calling through them. If you could the tmobile would be awesome becasue it has faster data and less coverage. The coverage would work better via wifi if the signal was low otherwise.
Man I really hope so. That's the one thing I really miss about my old tmo phones. I don't use wifi calling often but its a big help to have when its needed like at a hospital with wifi

Are we talking about WiFi calling now being like sip?
I am speculating this. Can people with GNex try to follow the steps in the document and see if it works?
If it is an OS (4.1 or 4.2) feature and tmobile has worked around it to accommodate wifi calling then it should work on Gnex as well.

Current Bugs

I just got my HTC one a week ago and I've noticed some bugs , that I'd like the community to look at some fixes, because waiting for HTC will be too much, haha here's the list:
1 HTC music app not reading new music
2 Usb mount
3 signal unstable going from 3g to 4g
all the time, have to switch it off and on to get it working again
Other bugs can be listed by whoever finds more, thanks

2. I have no issues with this, make sure the drivers are installed. I did have an instance where windows said it failed to install them and unplugging the usb cable and plugging it in again made it try again and it worked fine.
It uses mtp for data transferring which doesn't need to be toggled on.
3. I had this problem too and happened to restart the phone. I haven't had an issue since. Not sure if this will fix it for everyone but worked itself out for me this way.

I don't have 4G and probably never will while on Sprint, the network is a joke.
The only issue with the one I can think of right now is with the buttons. They sometimes don't respond. A lot of times when unlocking the screen by using the message icon when I have a new text, the back button will not take me to my homescreen. I have to use the home button.

Could it be because those consoles don't support mtp? Which of this is true, it's the console's fault. Google is moving toward mtp for devices and it appears HTC is doing the same.

In the suburbs the 3g is way better. Try from within the city during the daytime and you'll see how bad it is. Loop or on the near south side where I live is unusable. I imagine its problems with Sprint's back end network rather than the wireless tech itself. But I notice this phone has more trouble staying connected to LTE than my S3 in general

[Q] Has anyone manage to connect to metro pcs gsm?

I figured I would try asking. I get edge data and calls are working. No 4G though and I havent tried MMS yet. I called metro's tech support for their apn settings and they don't seem to work.
If you have your ATT Note 3 working on Metro's gsm service, please share your settings/experience here. Any ideas on how to get this working would also be great. Thanks in advance! :good:
I bought two Note 3s and gave one to my friend who's on metro. Everything works perfect for him, 4g, MMS and everything else.
He Input his APN settings so I'm not sure if he did anything else. When I get off work in the morning I'll ask him if he did anything specific besides the APN settings and let you know.

Yeah, I have tried LTE/GSM auto; LTE/GSM/CDMA auto; and a few different other ones. I always only end up with edge.
I have a question for you, did you buy the phone and stick your sim card in, or did you actually go to the Metro store and have them program the sim for the phone? Metro's sim cards work different than most gsm carrier sim cards =/

I went to an actual metro pcs store and bought the sim. The employee scanned the bar code on the back of my phone, so I'm guessing they programmed it specifically for my phone.
Ok so called my friend today. He told me that he didn't input the APN settings, they loaded automatically. It did make an APN profile for him. He sent me the following screenshots.

Awesome, thank you! I'll try these out later when I get off of work. Btw, I noticed that he doesn't have 4g in these screen shots. Does he normally get 4g/lte with Metro?

I also noticed that too! Yes he does normally have 4g/lte. His home is one of the ones where you take one step to the left and you have edge. Happens to me too and I'm on At&t lol. Let me know if you have any luck with it.
How are you suppose to know what the password is and the server as they are just **** in the screen shot?

No go on the apn settings. I am planning on driving out to LA sometime later this week and will check out whether this lack of LTE is only in my area. Sucks coming from metro's great cdma service.
Also quickvic has a good point about the password, although I'm thinking tyiphius friend's apn settings were installed automatically
Anyone know where I can buy a N900A note 3 that will work on Metro LTE?
