[Q] Raider speaker volume bad - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I went to a local Roger store and tried out the HTC Raider. The volume from the speaker was terrible. Max volume was like a 5 compared with my Samsung Vibrant. I like everything about the phone but the volume just throw me off. Is there an app that can boost the HTC Raider volume?

I felt the same thing about my Vivid. I used to be able to listen to Pandora while taking a shower with my Samsung Captivate, but not with the Vivid even with the volume all the way up.

The Volume+ app fixed my speaker issues.
Careful, you CAN blow the speaker with settings that are too high.

Since ur raider is rooted, have you tried the dsp manager? not sure if it will work, but worth a try.

Good to know. I haven't got the device yet cause Roger wanted to charge me $199 for 3yrs contract??? What a rip off. The website indicated $149 and Futureshop has on sale for $100 for 3yrs. Why the heck would the customer service wanted $199 for 3yrs contract is beyond me. Anyways, thks for the info.

But honestly, how many headphone adapters have you gone through?

I think I've just broken the 4th one.
Ok, the first 3 just sort of fell apart. They were very cheap (like £1/£1.50) but I made sure got one which wasn't made of 2 pieces put together at the phone end connector and it has not broken so far. However, today I got the dreaded "only sound in one ear" problem. If you push it to downwards it'll play in stereo again but I can't keep my finger there all the time.
So, what have you guys done? Cause surely you play music on your phone, right?
This is the new one I have..http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Headpho...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL?hash=item3357cd4555
Where as this is the old one, which I definitely don't recommend.

I bought mine from the seller directstation in January? and so far (touch wood) I've never had a problem with it which is pleasantly suprising as it looks very flimsy
I use a well brand headphone adapter..its for the touch hd but it is standard htc 11pin usb so its perfect..look it up on ebay..i bought 2 for $4 dollars so their cheap but solid
Actually, I put in the wrong link for the good adapter. The Directstation one was the same as the one I bought before and I manage to break 2 of those in under a week. I have changed that now.
The new one has lasted about 1 month or more but that is still too short I think. Besides, I'm not sure if it's the adapter or actually the plug in the Magic itself that's broken.
Man I wish this phone came with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack instead.

Well that was my tough choice to make with Vodafone, they had just anounced the HTC Tattoo when I got my contract and was offered either that or the Magic naturally I chose the Magic as it had the better screen of the two however it is sorley lacking a 3.5mm headphone jack
hmmmmm
Can someone PLEASE recommend me a good IN-EAR headphone from eBay?
I just broke my 3rd one!!!!
I hate in ear headphones with a passion. Lacking bass, sounds different if they just move slightly and....er...I don't like things in my ears.
I've yet to try anything from Etymotic. Apparently they are the bees knees, but not exactly cheap though.

That's no longer true on the bass .... many options for very good bass ear buds now. Including up to extremely expensive $500 earbuds. I have some middle of the line Sennheiser earbuds and the bass is excellent.

High pitched sound when having headphones in

So I just got my Bionic today, and I tried to play some music on it. The phone's speaker is fine, but for some reason, when I plug headphones in and start playing music, I will hear a faint high pitched sound in the background. And when I press pause and the music stops, the high pitched sound will still be there for a few seconds, and then no sound.
Does anyone else have this problem? Did I just get a faulty unit? I tried with all the headphones in my house, and the same thing happens.
I'm hearing the same thing when the phone is plugged into the car dock and plugged into my car stereo. It's very faint but it is there. Seems to go away after I start playing music. It's not there when the music stops.
I'm definitely getting the same thing on my over the aux cable in my truck tried other cables too same thing
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
I've got the same problem here as well. It m to new the thing I can focus on with the headphones in.
Ya this is a huge problem. My friend, who got his phone yesterday, has the same problem.as well. He is going to verizon to see about it, but it looks like to be a design defect.
I notice it, only if i have my headphones plugged in and i'm not playing music....... its not a big deal to me, because why would I have my headphones plugged in with NO music playing??
Its definitely there for me. It sounds like the type of noise that can be induced from a ground loop in the charging circuit from a car. The sound is there for me even when I do not have a charger connected through...
Not to sound crazy, but I get the exact thing happen to my G2X.
Wrong forum yes but I couldn't help but comment on this. I hear that sound when the screen is off. Goes away when screen is on.
Happens on stock and custom ROM.

More of a minor annoyance in my opinion. I barely notice it.

Alrighty, I think it's safe to say that everyone is getting this. We don't really need 5 pages of "I have this too."
I guess we'll have to wait for an update for Moto to address day-one bugs.
Add me to the list of those with this problem.
High pitched whine when listening to headphones(tried multiple headphones) through 3.5mm jack. Goes away ~3 seconds after pause playback. Only hear while playing media. Easiest to detect when media volume turned way down. and/or quiet portion of song.

I sent them an E-Mail and was told to do a factory reset (which I had already done, but for another reason). I told them I did this and they then said I was the first person to mention this problem and it must be unique to my phone. I then sent them 3 links to various forums with members discussing it, many of whom had also contacted support. I told them it was a very well known problem and I was obviously not the first person to contact them. They ended our conversation by basically saying the phone has a 1 year warranty from Motorola and I may take it back to a Verizon Wireless store at any time and if they can replicate the problem, the phone will be replaced
yesterday i got bluetooh head phones from the verizon store that were 50% off and they sound great. no noise at all. i think that it might have something to do with the wire. maybe the bionic has a faulty ground because alot of people are complaining about noise with headphones.

I use the Motorola S9-HD Bluetooth Stereo headset and it sounds great as always. It must be a problem with the wiring, but I do find it strange how the noise varies in volume a lot and when audio stops the whine stops within 2-3 seconds too. That makes me wonder if perhaps it is a software problem. Oh well who knows, once I start playing music, I can barely notice it, but for video it is a bit annoying. I may take Motorola up on their offer of returning it on their 1 year warranty if in a month or so they quietly fix the problem in the next batch of Bionics Verizon receives. There are a few people who say they don't have the problem, but I think those people are just in the group of people who can't hear sounds that are that highly pitched (like the mosquito ringtone). Perhaps in their mid 30's or older, or just not the best hearing. Anyway, it's hardly worth me returning them for the problem, and like I said, if it is fixed in the next year at any point, I will return and exchange them on Motorola's warranty
So quick dumb question. I bought my Bionic off contract / retail price, anyone know if the 14 days return vzw has only applies to subsidized phones or to full retail price phones as well? (my phone has this problem as well which is why I am wondering if I have till Thursday or longer to return it).

The problem lies with the fm receiver. Try using titanium to freeze the FMradioservice 2.3.4. If this does not solve your problem then it is a hardware issue. I have become an avid slacker radio user and this seems to have solved it for me but, I just did it so haven't had time to really test it. Please let me know if this works for you or not. If you are not rooted then there is no solution for you other than to become rooted.

My wife and I have both had Droid 4s since release day and aren't experiencing the issue.
I have had my droid 4 since the day it was released with no such problems. The only I can think that would cause speaker problems is if:
a) dust and gunk are getting stuck in the speaker
b) the connector for the speakers is becoming loose... do you ever try and clean around the edges of the phone, like in between the bezel and the frame? If so, you might be damaging a connector when you do so...
Other than that, maybe its a factory issue, it is a very thin top piece that holds the speaker and the screen, etc.
Hope this helps...

I started having this problem about 3 weeks ago and I've had my D4 for about 2 months.
Guess I need to call in for a replacement...what a pain. I used my OG Droid for almost 2 years without the need for a replacement. Then I picked up the D3 and went through about 6 phones in 6 months with a move to the D4 hoping things would be better.

suck trick
The suck trick is, if u suck on the speaker with your mouth it will temporarily fix the speaker.
Same issueI
I bought a Droid 4 two months ago and about within a month it started up with the same thing you are speaking of, a tinny, blown speaker sound coming from the ear piece. I did the whole sucking speaker deal and it would fix it , only to sound like junk again later. I returned it to Verizon, where they said that they had not heard of anyone else having the same problem, so Motorola sent me a "like new" Droid 4. I have had this phone for a month and just this morning it began with the blown speaker garbage again.
I looked more into it and read that it could be the glue which is holding the speaker in heats up and fails, causing the speaker to release from where it is seated and with that rattles, or vibrates, giving the effect of a blown speaker
This would make sense why by sucking into the speaker it stops, because you are basically popping it back into place temporarilly
Either way, I am returning this phone later today and plan on telling Verizon, I want a new one, not some "like new" refurbished piece of junk. I paid for a NEW phone, not one with problems motorola "fixed"
I hope all works out next, cause I really love the keyboard and could've gotten a Rzr for a few bucks more.

I just got a "like new" replacement phone for having the same problem. I had my phone for about five months before noticing a problem with the speaker. I had the same problem on four different DroidX phones. Verizon acted like it was such a big deal, and they'd never had any problems with the Droid4. The woman at the Verizon store tried to convince me that my Otter Box case was causing the problem. Verizon's customer service department is such a joke sometimes. So far so good with my replacement though.

if you make a call and run it it runs in the earpiece.
to clean it right
1wipe it off
2 clean it with a airduster if you got one
3 with a q tip and a little bit of alcohol
4 dry it than call you house and pick up the phone
5 than run the app incall 3x times
it should be good than
also in /settings/sound/speaker settings set it to custom turn off surround sound and turn the eq to bass punch or lower.

Earpiece too loud/distort/buzz

Long version:
Made my first call with the Nexus 4 yesterday. The call volume was surprisingly loud and it sounded distorted. I had to turn down the volume in order to not hurt my ear. Initially I thought I was having bad reception and so the call quality was bad. But after making a number of calls at different locations, I concluded that the earpiece will start to distort/buzz whenever the call volume is set above 50%.
Called Play customer service line today, explained the issue, and I was told that they had received a number of reports of the same problem. They quickly proceeded to send me a replacement as well as a UPS label for me to send the phone back after I got the replacement. They also told me that my replacement will arrive in 3-5 business days, so at least the replacement devices are not backordered.
TL;DR:
Contacted Play support, and I was told this is a known hardware problem. They immediately proceeded to send me a replacement. If you have this problem, RMA it.
I don't really understand the issue. If it too loud it distorts? Can you keep it at good listening level without it distorting?

At max volume it's too loud, mostly too trebly. Above 50% it start to buzz/distort (not hissing noise), yet at 50% it's too quiet most of the time. Good listening level is around 75-80%, but it buzzes at this volume.
I agree, the earpiece is really loud but that's good thing. I hear everything loud and clear. This phone is perfect. The back speaker is surprisingly loud as well.

Same here is there a limit on the number of days after purchase where we can ask for a replacement or does it all fall under the 1yr warranty. I rather deal with Google and have them ship me a new phone rather than ask lg for a replacement

pretty sure RMA advance replacements are first 15 days. for the next year it is normal warranty you send it they assess weather repair or replace with new device. this is normal procedure with most companies HOWEVER! with google play i have heard of people getting advance replacements way after the 15 day period so not 100% sure.

The first 15 days is if you want a refund, I believe the RMA is covered under the 1 year warranty. Either way Google just sends replacements if there is a problem with the device.
If you guys have this problem down the line, don't worry too much. The earpiece is very easy to separate from the phone, and is on a plastic piece with the vibrator. Should be inexpensive on eBay, but RMA for sure if you are within warranty.
I bought two 16gb models, one sounds great, the other has horrible buzzing/distortion, especially at higher volumes. There's definitely a major difference, so I called google and they immediately offered to send me a replacement. I wonder how many phones have this problem?
Same problem here. Just called Google and they're sending a replacement. Hoping for a buzz-less phone this go around. Love the N4 otherwise.
I had the same issue, posted a thread about it, basically over time it "broke in" so before rushing to RMA I would put another hour or two of calls through the phone at a lower volume and go from there.
i can't say the same about mine. Earpiece seems just right when i turn the volume all the way up, and the speaker i wish was a little louder but it's ok. Buzzing in the earpiece is annoying. Not too loud, constant when the screen is on or off when next to my ear during conversations. None of my phones buzz like that. Nice work, LGoogle.
Same here, one good other is going back to google
I'm still waiting for my replacement.
Today was the first time plugging in a pair of headphones to my N4 and I notice static noise that many have mentioned....
For those who have problems with the earpiece, do you also have this problem with the headphone jack? Are they somehow related?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
On my device no buzzing noises.
However earpiece (and speaker) are loud.
For me this is more of an advantage coming from I9100 where I had to ask people to speak loud finally a device to I can hear them!
waiting for my replacement as well. sucks because everything was perfect EXCEPT for the earpiece.
it sounds as if the earpiece speaker is over tuned, making for a buzz everytime the opposing party speaks.
In the same boat here. Ordered two, one is fine, the other has the buzzing earpiece. Mine buzzes no matter what the volume is.
Would I have to wait 6 weeks for a replacement? I have the earpiece problem but I don't wanna wait that long

[Q]Beats Headphones Bundled, Release Date & LTE[Q]

Long time since I was in the HTC section!
Thinking of ordering one when I get paid next week, I've watched the unboxings on the YouTube and there is this one thing I'm really itching to find out! The headphones that are bundled, the ones with the red buds, are they cheap & nasty usual HTC headphones, are they upgraded HTC headphones to have bass and actual mid-tones, or at they Beats Headphones?
I'm in the UK personally and although Clove announced a delay, I was just wondering what is the actual release date for the One? There's nothing on HTC website about the release date, though you can pre-order one direct from them, which I think is abysmal.
Furthermore, I'm on EE 4G in the UK will an unlocked One straight from HTC or any other retailer work straight away when I insert my SIM? That ones kinda the deal breaker because I was watching a video on YouTube and all the reviews in the US were saying 'and we can't test the LTE as this is the European Model' and I know the frequencies are different blah blah blah, but I just wanted to double check I know the device is order-able from EE on a new contract, but I didn't know if that was an EE 'specific' device.
Cheers guys!
I haven't tried the bundled headphones that came with mine (i got Beats Buds free ), but no, they are not Beats buds, they appear to be just the standard HTC ones with red tips.
If you buy an unlocked (sim free) version over here then your EE sim will work straight away.

No problemo.
I've never had, or used any decent headphones...(most will probably say i still haven't :laugh, but i like the bass with the Beats, i'm no audiophile but i like the sound of them. Maybe it's my mis spent latter teenage years in clubs standing next to speakers that blew your head off, but i like them and am happy with them.
