Wifi Tether As Infrastructure Mode? - HTC Sensation XL

Hello everyone,
I have been searching the net and here to find out if the HTC Sensation XL can be used as a true Wifi Access Point(not ad-hoc network) with WPAx and infrastructure mode but so far I have not been able to find a conclusive answer....
Can anyone answer this please?

Nope ... all WiFi Tether functionality on Android is ad-hoc ...

I concur. As far as i remember, android doesn't support ad-hoc connections.
And yes it supports WPA. by default the hotspot uses WPA2 (AES) for security.

My SSID not found

i had hard time to search my ACCESS POINT at home. There is no sign of my router. Both my laptop and netbook can search just that the topaz cant find. why? help
Ok, sorry for asking... but you dont have a hidden SSID?
My device has much worse wifi than my laptop, but no problem connection when I'm right next to it. Hopefully it'll be better with future ROMs.
There's a energy saving setting under WiFi for better performance / better battery, have you tried to change that?
You do have 802.11g enabled and not just draft n?

Did you try to turn off all access controls in the router?
Does the phone find *any* wireless network? Go somewhere where you could expect many AP and maybe use some wifi scanning software like WiFiFoFum.

[q] wifi hotspot

I keep reading that this is possible on the hero, both with and without rooting... I know this is a noob move, but will anyone forgive me and point me to the right forum to accomplish this?
Go to the Market and search for Easy Tether. There is a free app and paid app.
tried that, but it doesn't make the phone into a wifi hotspot... unless i'm missing something...
AFAIK, the only way to do what you want is to root and use this app, Wireless Tether for Root Users

+1 this is the only way that I have found. And Btw this makes a wifi tether via ad hoc and therefore is not an actual hotspot. Think tether not router.

Yeah, it's not infrastructure mode, but you can still connect multiple devices at the same time. Some devices won't connect to ad hoc though

Since I have only ever connected one device at a time to my phone, how much slower is the internet connection when more than 1 device is attached at the same time?
Two works ok, but three surfing at once seems to push it

What if I use my linksys router as a repeater or repeater bridge?
Hell I will try it tomorrow and let you know. I have dd-wrt flashed on my router and I can change my wireless mode to anything. i also have 2 separate wireless reapeters.

Yes, that should work in theory. Don't know if it matters or not but our devices run wireless tether in ad-hoc mode, not infrastructure

I know, but I'm hoping that my router will detect it.
I saw a post on the Incredible boards that they got their wifi tether to work in AP mode... is that not possible for us?
also, I've connected up to 5 devices to my phone at once and it doesn't go too slow as long as my phone has a decent ev/3g signal.

wifi for android

Hi guys,
I am in dilemma, in India we don't have 3g network and to download huge games data for my android is impossible. I can't even find a free wifi network.
So is there any way around to get my net connection from my laptop to my android. Like a wifi hotspot??
Depends what phone you have and if it can hock into an AdhoC wirless network.
I guess you have a desire (i checked your post history)

May help I guess. GIYF
Also you could search reverse tether if you want to do via USB.
