[Relatively] Stable Browsers - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

I have encountered the annoying browser glitch with text box's. And in my search for stable browsers, I have found a few results. Aside from the awesome Opera Mobile, I have found these to work rather nicely:
Ninesky Browser:
I haven't played around with this one too much, I only really checked to make sure it didn't crash. But the layout is nice enough, not too cluttered.
Maxthon Mobile Browser:
This one was the only one so far that allowed me to utilize FimFiction.net's archive search. Opera Mobile and others would either refuse to load or crash the browser. This browser also has an interesting active gesture system, which allows you to temporarily see the result of your finger swipes. However I find this to be more of a pain, as it is hard to always get the browser to move around when it is interpreting every swipe I make. I also couldn't figure out a way to zoom in and out.
Browsers I have found to either crash or not work very well at this time are: Miren, Dolphin, Boat, Bolt, xScope, and Skyfire.
That is the scope of my search so far. If anyone knows of any other stable browsers, I would be happy to learn about them .

I'm using opera mini. Worked fine. Tried several others, with poor results. Dolphin almost made it, but the url bar does not work (can't type your own url, only coming from search or another site)

hi,
the dolphin HD or dolphin mini browser crashed? I would like use the dolphin mini, it's possible and stable?
thank you

Both had problem at the url bar, and both had some minor crashes. Doesn't look that good anyway. Opera mini still rules.

Probably any browser based or that uses the default webkit will not work.

text only browser
hi,
text only browser work on nook?
ex: market.android.com/details?id=com.spacenext.textonly
like kindle article mode.
thank you

Opera works great for me.

I finaly found a browser that can use volume keys to scroll and (so far) seems stable. It's called Galapagos browser. Doesnt compare very good to Opera otherwise, but scrolling with keys is a big help on eink screen.

xScope
I use xScope Pro ($2.99, lite version available). You can use the volume keys to scroll (remapped my side buttons on the NST), change the standard font size to be bigger and change the theme to an all black one. Only problem I've had so far is logging into reddit.com causes it to crash for whatever reason. I think it's permission related, going to poke around on the command line later.

yes it works fine

I've tried several browsers but only opera mini made it, it has poor scrolling but after a while you get used to it
Sent from my NOOK STR using XDA

"Exsoul Browser" seems to be working fine.
EDIT : It does not =_=. Sorry for useless post.

Opera mini, and or opera mobile. Also, they can be configured for high contrast browsing. (editing global CSS file)

I've been having the best luck with Opera Mini. Pages load very, very fast, and scrolling is remarkably responsive if you turn on NoRefresh Toggle.
I had high hopes for Dolphin Mini, but it doesn't seem very happy on the Touch.

B&N (intentionally?) broke webkit on the Nook, so yeah, Dolphin won't work.

"Maxthon Mobile Browser For Android"
seems to be working more than fine + it plays Flash animation with the plugin installed.
EDIT:
Probably the best replacement for Opera Mobile there is.

But can it use a user defined CSS file, for high contrast browsing?

Nope.
In Maxthon you can use the "WAP mode" to remove all of the pages formatting thus creating a high contrast site.
You can also turn on a "negative mode" to inverse all of the colors.
This NoRefresh makes me quite happy with the achieved contrast.

Opera "New" 7.0
I tried the Opera "New". It only crashes, so I'm reluctant to upgrade Opera mini 6.something.
Update "New" to 7.0.1 also crashes on launch.

Touch screen web browser

There is something about me that doesn't like using Internet Explorer. On my phone (Sony Ericsson K850i) I use the Opera Mini 4 Beta browser and love the way that it renders sites and you can zoom in and out etc...
I installed Opera Mobile on my HTC hoping that it would be exactly the same as mini but I was very disappointed Not only does it not have the text for the soft keys but it doesn't accept touch screen inputs for pressing links and text boxes. Also you don't have the zoom in/out function so you have to see a fully rendered screen or and "everything on one column" rendering that cripples the content.
Is there a decent browser for Windows Mobile? What I am looking for is something that works exactly like Opera Mini but with more compatibility with flash etc...
Any ideas?
At the least I would like to be able to install Opera mini but it comes as a .jad file (Java Midlet?). Is there any way of installing these as my Kaiser doesn't know what to do with the file atm.
Thanks for any help
Oliver
There must be someone out there who uses a browser that they're happy with?
Is there a version of Opera that works with the touch screen?
Thanks
You don't have Java on your phone? Opera mini is free and it is a Java Midlet so you could try and see how you like it without spending any money. There is another free browser that I have called Minimo.
LINK to direct CAB download-- http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
It isint the perfect browser either but it does alot of what Opera does and lets you set it with preferences too. Give it a shot and see what you think. Don't like it just remove. I will look on my phone to see if I can extract the Java .exe for you.
I use netfront 3.3 its got better functions than PIE and its back and forward functions using your D-pad is very usefull. as for opera if you want it to scroll like opera mini just enable touch and grab on opera v8.65. it will select links as opera mini does it just wont zoom in like opera mini
Ceck out the articles at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Web Browsing, browsers
picsel browseris my fav. look around enough and you'll find it
Thanks for the replies!
I'll definitely have a look round for the browsers you mentioned.
I would much appreciate it if you could provide a Java app to enable Java on my phone too
BTW, I'm using Schap's latest ROM if that helps.
Im a bit confused here about the op. Am I the only person that has a copy of Opera Mobile that does everything that the op said it doesn,t do? Which version of Opera mobile did you try? I use O.M on my kaiser and everything you said it doesnt do, mine does.. Ive got touchscreen interactivity aswell as touch scrolling, i can zoom in and out, 3 can resize the screen format to desk top, just fit and one column. Im runing Opera mobile 8.65 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC. By anychance did you accidentily download the smartphone version?
As above - op must have downloaded opera instead of opera-mini...
I'm posting using o-m and must say it's one of the best if not best browser for the wm platform
WOW!
Just installed Picsel and I love it.
The GUI is a bit dodgy but that's cos it's designed for the clie but I love everything else.
Thanks
(Bit of an effort to find a download though)
Ah, I downloaded the Smartphone version. That's prob why I don't have the touch screen thingy.
BTW Subliminal, there is a difference between Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. Opera Mini is what I have on my Sony Ericsson k850i and I would have thought that Opera Mobile worked similarly. It does all the same things but not as smoothly as Opera Mini.
Opera Mini is for Java based phone apps. Opera Mobile is for WM platform.
Opera Mobile has more functions (I think?)
but one main difference is that Opera Mini is free whereas opera mobile isn't.
A direct shortcut can be created to launch opera mini without the need to load the java midlet first. A quick hex edit can skip the connection permissions and another quick tinker can allow direct links from emails to open in opera mini. Sounds more work than it is.
Ive just been checking out the Netfront v3.4 technical preview
https://www.access.co.jp/english/nfppc/agree_34.html
its alot better than v3.3 and has some very nice features. its got a similar zoom feature to opera mini4 its a scroll and zoom. plus the visual bookmark is nice also. I cant wait for it to go to retail I will be getting it. opera9 will be ready soon also but ive not seen a preview of it yet. from what ive read though its also going to be alot better than v8.65 and incorperate feature of mini opera4 like the page zooming
I've just downloaded opera mini 4 and have installed it onto my phone.
I have one querey.......
when I was instaling it and when I first used it, it say
this program is connecting to .......port 1080...... requires airtime..... you maybe chaged.....
does this mean my phone isn't using the wifi connection when im running opera mini 4?

It must be something to do with your settings, Ive just tried it with usb and wifi and both connect fine. Infact it connects quicker with usb than it did with v3.3.

MS DeepFish is the best browser I've seen yet. It's in Beta for now though and has limitations. It's similar to Iphone's Safari - which is great.
Opera Mobile 9 will support zooming, just like Opera Mini. I asked Opera for a release date, but they won't say anything. It's supposed to be released "soon".

Best Browser: Opera Mini, Opera mobile, Netfront, or Mozilla Minimo?

What is in your opinion the best browser (last version) for our Kaiser instead of Explorer.
I never tried Mozilla Minimo or Netfront...any feedback?
For quick n easy when on GPRS Opera Mini
If on 3G OR wifi then opera mobile.
I've tried the rest and these are the best IMHO
I've tried Minimo and found it absolutely useless. Was not impressed with Opera Mini, but Opera 8.65 is Impressive.
I've never tried Netfront but I would like to.
To be honest I'm not sure that these kinds of thread get us very far - and often lead to arguments.
The best advice is try them all yourself and lookup Menneisyys guides as he does a superbly dtailed round up of these.
Having said the above, I'll ignore it and say this:
Another vote for Opera Mini's latest version (very fast and actually a nice set of features and viewing options - great on the road) Free so you can have it anyway alongside any other browser
PIE is actually pretty decent IF you install the slow scroll fix CAB (without the CAB installed forget it)
I also use Opera Mobile. Actually I sometimes run bothe PIE and Opera mobilesimultaneously- there are some sites that just render better on some browsers than others and it's not always consistently the same browser. So that's my choice or rather my three.
Mike
Can you post that .cab here. (PIE slow scroll fix CAB) I can't seem to find it in a search.

honestly i have found opera mini the abs. best hands down..the only thing i can say that it should add is a way to have more than one window. but thats it.

Let me disagree - if you know the right hacks/ shortcuts, Opera Mini is by far the easiest to use. Particularly now with the bookmark sync features between your mobile device(s) and desktop browser(s) - it REALLY rules!

Kaiser Browser - Which is the best?

Good afternoon,
Now, before I get flamed I have done a search and seen numerous threads on this topic however I would like to get an updated set of views.
I have a TyTn II and I'm looking for a good browser to use with my devise. So far i've been using Explorer (heh) and Opera 9.5 from the Diamond build.
Explorer does not format pages anywhere near impressive and Opera 9.5 is such a memory hog it's not even funny, slows down my devise something rottern most of the time.
I want a browser which is similar to the 9.5 formatting (looks good) but does not completely rape the performance of the devise.. any imput?
i use netfront, i new opera has too much stuff to configure so i used to to just stick with opera 8.65 and pie plus until i found netfront which replaced opera for me.
Opera Mini 4.1 FTW - simple, easy to use, little configuration, fast load times.

For the overly paranoid, Opera Mini and SkyFire have everything rendered and the pushed to you through their own servers. It gives you quicker page loads, at the risk of having your passwords stored on a random server somewhere.
I've found this version of Opera Mobile 9.5 to be pretty solid.

defently skyfire, can't download anything though so opera mini, i also keep opera around there is a new version floating around here on xda that has flash enabled but still can't handle video streaming (why skyfire is a must for me)
I'll second Opera Mobile 9.5. It has been by far the best browser for me; with a few fixes in the next release (hopefully official), i can't see another browser standing in its way.
On a sidenote, whatever happened to DeepFish by Microsoft?
none b4 and none to come

+1. Although I do use Skyfire when some pages don't come out right in OM. I only use PIE when I have to (mostly just for LogMeIn).

skyfire on diamond

today i read a news about a new upcoming browser named skyfire.
and what i am asking me: when the open beta comes to my country and i install it on my diamond... can i change the default browser für touchflo3d?
here is a version i tried using. only half the screen is skyfire and the other half is today screen. check it out. maybe it works for you.
Skyfire is a pretty good web browser for mobile phones. It was apparently found to be the fastest - mostly because it renders the pages from a central server.
I believe you have to register with them to fully use the software (you need a Skyfire account).
Also, there is a new release, but it still does not support VGA devices yet.
- Keirmeister
yes but can i change the default browser in touch flo 3d?
maybe in some time no one wants to use opera and all want to use skyfire.
seemts that its just a simple shortcut to change.
Skyfire is not compatible to VGA right now.
I tried out Skyfire on my diamond and there is a workaround the half screen problem. Other than the fact that flash works, i don't think it is better than Opera 9.5 at least not until a VGA version comes out.
I uninstalled Skyfire and now I have the problem where PIE is now my default browser instead of Opera. Whenever I tap on a link on my rss reader or email, it goes to PIE by default. Is there a way to change my default browser back to opera?
Just Re-run the WM_6_HTC_PPC_Opera9.cab in your windows directory, and it will re-install Opera and fix the link issues. Your bookmarks, history and other browsing data will not be harmed.
Skyfire 0.85 is out, with VGA support. Just tried it and it works like a dream on my Diamond, even able to watch top gear on iPlayer with it.
Hi,
Installed on my MDA Compact and it works well. However, it won't connect using wifi.
Any solutions?

To answer another question the latest version works on VGA but allegedly not on WVGA so Touch HD users may be disappointed. You can download it here http://get.skyfire.com/ and yes, Skyfire asks you if you want to make it the default browser.

Maybe... but uninstalling it even when it's not default resets your default browser to PIE. Which sucks.

This is because unlike PIE/Opera Mobile, skyfire downloads the webpage on a regular pc, then sends you "an image" of the website, in a low quality.
So it's not actually that fast, zooming and panning are weak on it.

Opera Mini : incredibly fluid with ICS !!!

Hello all, I already talked about this in another thread called "ICS 4.04 disapointment" but I think that this news diserve a specific thread as people in search of a good web browser may not be interested in reading the "ICS 4.04 disapointment" thread...
I just tried Opera Mini, and now when running ICS this browser is a lot more fluid than the stock one. With the stock browser when displaying some pages with big pictures in it, it sometimes became slow. Opera Mini is absolutly fluid whatever you display with it, just as good as on an iPad !!!! Exactly what I was searching for !
The only problem is an annoying bug : when you switch to another app, if you go back to Opera all previously opened tabs are closed, just like if you were running Opera for the first time. As far as I remember, when I was tried Opera Mini with Honeycomb I didn't have this problem. So I guess this bug with ICS may be corrected in the future.
Now that I know we can have a very fluid web browsing experience on our Xoom running ICS, I really feel like I have a new device.
I also tried Opera Mobile and Dolphin but they are slower than the stock browser. Opera Mini is really the best regarding the fluidity. There is another one called "Opera Mini Next" but I couldn't see no differences between those two apps.
Note : if you have a problem where sometimes the website cannot be displayed, go to the Opera parameters and change the setting "protocol" from "socket/http" to "http". Now that this parameter has been changed on mine, I never had a problem displaying a web page.
So, if your Xoom runs ICS, please try Opera Mini and let me know what you think about it (but I guess you'll love it).
Data save upper to 85 percent by loading a webpage. It's really to help you consumption plan with 3G network for the surf by the phone.
It is more fluid, because the pictures are compressed. It's a lot easier to handle a 20kB pic than a 500kB.

Thanks for this information but it's not the only thing as some sites which contains only a few small photos are very laggy with the other browsers, but ultra-fluid with Opera (wikistrike.com for exemple).
I finally found that the reason of losing the open tabs in Opera when switching to another app was a bad parameter in my ICS.
So finally I couldn't find any major problem with this app. Opera Mini is now my default browser.
I also could read that the perfect fluidity of Opera Mini is due to the fact that Opera uses a server to compress all web pages before loading them. So here is its secret !
Anyway it works so fine that I don't really care how it does this.
whenever i set the image quality to medium or low, te pictures get really small.. Is there a way to stretch them?
