Can everyone please sign this petition...support fellow android users - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

... hey guys please sign that petition. Htc's ceo lied and said no more locked bootloaders back in may well the vivid has a locked bootloader. Lets please support our android brothers http://www.groubal.com/htc-vivid-has-locked-bootloader-contrary-to-statements-by-the-company/#sign

I signed it. Seems like it needs quite a few more signatures though.

Didn't they come back and say that the boot loaders would be locked but would provide tools to unlock after you agree to void warranty online? (Similar to what Moto is doing)

Besides, online petitions don't mean jack.

yes. and if you own a RAIDER, which is the version of the vivid for every other country but ours, you can unlock it from htcdev.com. the vivid on AT&T is specifically locked down and cannot be unlocked by using their unlocking tool.
This is specific to the AT&T Vivid, and not specific to the HTC Holiday/Raider

Bummmmmp..,....

to expand on this a little more, the issue stems from the fact that the Raider IS unlockable and the vivid is not. when HTC was asked about it, they said AT&T was to blame, when AT&T was confronted, they said its HTC's decision to lock the bootloader. we are being lied to by someone, and at this point, i wouldnt be surprised if it was both companies lying to us. the bs needs to stop and they need to realize that we are customers, we purchase a device, and we want to be in control of that device. if i wanted someone else to control what i do with my device, i would get an iphone.

Wow that's total bullpoop. So much potential in that phone. Good luck

I hate to be a debbie downer but do these petitions ever really accomplish anything? I signed it as well, but it seems like these are always for nil and nothing ever becomes of the matter. Can anyone provide evidence of a successful online petition that accomplished its intended purpose?

the bootloader unlock tool came about because of one of these petitions. if i lived in canada, i would have an unlocked bootloader right now because of the petition that caused the htcdev site to exist.

And the unlock of the motorola atrix bootloader came out shortly after one of these was started and had a few thousand signatures.
Not saying these were the sole cause but I'm sure it was at least a factor that helped push the company to unlocking.

The bootloader unlock for the Atrix came to us because someone gave it to us, not because of a measly petition.

I didn't say it did. But it gave statistics to how people felt about it. Specifically over 11,000 signatures. And it got the issue put in front of the media.

Why do you think motorola released unlocked bootloaders? Positive public opinion = new customers. That's the whole point of these petitions.
Given to us? *Motorola's* update to gingerbread for the Atrix unlocked all the bootloaders. The alternate unlock method made it so you can flash previous sbf's, and that was made possible from the leaked build of gingerbread *motorola* had made.

I don't know if the petition will work, but didn't a good number of people pushed Samsung to update the captivate to Froyo and both companies blamed each other in press statements and soon it was updated?
BTW, I signed

Bump. Please sign folks...itbwill benefit us all the more manufacturers there are with unlocked bootloaders

A company listening to their customers?
Rare in this age. Good for people with HTC phones and good for HTC for listening to user feedback of their product.

How to Get into Bootloader!

Here's how to get into bootloader for those of you who are trying to root it, will save you 10 minutes:
Press power WHILE holding down the camera button and volume down button.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r6q9Foom1o
Does this even matter if you can't get into Recovery from the Bootloader and can't write to system?
well
the problem is, we need to somehow get a rooted update.zip file into the Droid x, I am not such a big hacker on that but I have tried to get my Verizon rep to get me some contacts with Motorola, trying to persuade them this will sell more phones if people can "root" the phone. Seriously, I m trying my best here so hopefully we geet a rooted Droid x soon.
Yeah I want it rooted that's the only thing holding me back. I love the fast gpu it has.
well they have a podcast coming up and u can ask a question
since I'm a new user. can't post the link developer

They will. No matter what, its a good situation for a DEV.
LOL it's going to take A LOT more then a simple udate.zip to root this phone. unless we do get a signed test ROM leaked. but right now i am more worried about getting an unlocked bootloader. who knows tho maybe we can use RSD also to get some access to it. i hope someone can whip up a sbf file with a unlocked bootloader on it.
The problem
The problem is that there's not even an option under bootloader to update the Droid X with an update.zip file.
But rest assured, I am sure someone will get it done, look at the Droid and Droid Incredible, they have both been rooted!
We need some kind of community team that can tell Verizon that they will actually make more money if they let people hack it. seriously, they will caz more people will buy the Droid X if they can hack it.

And how do you know this?
Like most things in life, I think the answer is in 'Follow the Money'. Motorola doesn't have as much to gain or lose by locking the phone up this tight.
VZW on the other hand is trying to generate this new revenue stream for Tethering/Wifi Access. A stream that gets obliterated by custom ROMs.
With VZW's history of requiring restrictions on phones (remember all the bluetooth restrictions they used to require on their phones? - hell they got sued over the Moto V710 stuff). I think its very naive to think VZW doesn't have a hand in this.

Yeah I don't think Verizon cares. Its T-mo and others that are anal about all this because of the way they get their bandwidth imo.
hmm did you not read the efuse article and what Moto had to say about the addition of the efuse and what it does... They made the hardware/software - verizon had zero say so in that matter - distributor vs retailer

Developer atrix unlocked bootloader

So mods I know that there is a marketplace but I thought it be appropriate for this one phone...
Go ahead and close this if im wrong. Thanks!
So I have a developer atrix that is factory unlocked, uncapped data speeds, and most importantly an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
I was thinking maybe someone here could really use it and would like to buy it to develop as I don't really know what I can do with it.
So ya im willing to sell to help out the xda community...
I am an experienced member here.

What happens when you boot with Vol + Down?
If i press volume up when booting it starts rsd protocol and volume down when booting it gives fast boot and other options.
Stupid question. If this gets in the hands of a developer who knows what to do can this provide a way to unlock the bootloader on regular phones? I assume not unless someone is able to crack the encryption?

Dont think so, someone else had one a couple of weeks ago. Todblt said it was just unlocked but made no difference as to how to unlock it.
Unsecured engineering devices do not give you any special advantage towards unlocking the bootloader. They do however, give developers a great deal of freedom to safely explore the possibilities of what can be done and are a very rare and valuable asset to any serious hacking endevours.
They often have earlier hardware though and sometimes don't perform up to spec with release consumer devices.
They should be handled very responsibly and access to the engineering builds that they run can be a vital asset too.
so is my bootloader unlocked?
coool!!!!!!!really cool!
It is a big news for today!
u need a locked device for compare the files...and trying rewrite the rights on lock device....soo....
I don't know anything about developing but this seems cool if it gets into the right hands. Can some developer please get his hands on this and start cracking.
Remember if you do get the bootloader unlocked this is waiting for you...

I heard they unlocked it by luck, Apparently it was encrypted as much as the Atrix was.
I emailed geohot about the bounty for the bootloader. I know he could use the money for his legal services against sony. Maybe if more people emailed him, it would get his attention more. I'm hoping for some kind of response from him. His email is [email protected] for other people who would like to try to get his attention.

it was locked, but it wasn't signed. so all they had to do was to flash the phone with an unlocked bootloader just like the one we have for the atrix. but since we can't sign it, it wouldn't work.

Htc unlocked!

HTC
‎"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC
Saw this on facebook so happy hopefully they will give us something to unlock older devices or give us the keys to the castle
Great to hear that they're listening to criticism from their consumers. I wonder if they'll provide a way to unlock devices that are locked currently.
Ya I hope so shouldn't be to hard to do that really all they have to do is either give us the RSA key or make a program that flashes the bootloaders to be unlocked
What would happen to the sold locked htc device?bring back to them to unlock?
I would assume it requires them to create a signed OTA or RUU update for existing locked-loader phones, which would then include the code for an officially sanctioned unlocking agent. Anyway this is all very exciting. If the T-Mo US Sensation comes out as an open phone it's high on my next-phone list.
I for one welcome our unlocked overlords.

I think we should wait for HTC for the next.
Because it just a current decision.......for now
HTC will have 2 ways to unlock(I think):
1. Use OTA update to unlock
2. Use Sony's advice (sign up to SE, and SE will give u unlock code)
Just had a small chat with HTC, and of course they couldn't tell a thing. I guess we just have to wait and see what will be happening.
We currently don’t have information regarding which phones will be unlocked; Keep an eye on our official website and official social media outlets for announcements about which phones will be bootloader unlocked

But my orig post on fb to start it all up talked about inc s ..
But 3d and sensation became the topic very fast ..

But until they announce it we have no idea but Mr Chou said no longer locking devices its a very undefined answer to my origanal requests on facebook.

You bought a phone knowing it was locked and had security. Fast isn't how this type of things work. More like impossible.
I can't recall an android device which has had its bootloader exploited.
Finding the algorithm is in the realm of possibility... but it would take an enormous amount of man hours and even then we don't know how everything is done correctly. By the time is would eventually be achieved we'd be moved onto a new device, and not have been so silly as to have gotten a locked bootloader in the first place.
I don't think its silly. Not everyone had an xda account or had been reading about this stuff. Many people expected android to be android. Which is quite normal for people that aren't developers.
With that being said I will say what's silly is trying. It will take a long amount of time like Matt is saying.
