[Q] Problem with MIUI Rom, version 1.12.25 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There,
I'm running the above ROM that I had flashed yesterday, and I had realised today that the ROM hadn't given me root permissions.
I have followed many guides on how to fix this.
One of the main ways was too enable root permissions in SuperUser, but it isn't working as it's not showing that option.
I can't access Recovery Mode or download mode at the moment, even though the ROM is running perfectly other than not been able to use root apps.
I have tried a factory reset so the ROM is back as it was when I first flashed, but I still can't enable root.
I am wondering, is there a way I can flash an MIUI rom without root permission and the ability to access recovery?
If so, could you please point me in the direction of fixing this?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You could try to acces recovery through the ROM Manager app. Are you sure your ROM isn't rooted? Check if you have an app called Superuser installed.
SuperUser only lists applications that have asked for SU permissions. You can't add them manually.
Try running an application that needs SU access (like titanium backup), and see if it throws an error message, or popup that allows it to get SU access.

I've installed Titanium Backup and it says.. Root access: X FAILED.
I can't update my superuser binary files because it can't gain root access.
And yes I do have superuser installed.
I can't get into recovery mode using ROM Manager either.
Is there a way I can reflash a ROM? I do have mobile ODIN.. but it says it doesn't work with the MIUI kernel..

Not much you can do if you don't get access to download mode or recovery.
What you can do if it doesnt work is try the USB Jig that will force your phone into download/recovery mode. They are very cheap on E-bay i've heard

Just brought a jig, I'll keep you posted
Thank you

[Q] Help with root

Today I decided to root my captivate and was unsuccessful with the super one click. I then decided to do it manually with the update.zip. After I finished rebooting with recovery mode I saw the su app. I then tried to use titanium backup and it said that it could not get root permission. Could someone please help me figure out what went wrong and help me get a successful root so I can enable normally apps.

Did you enable USB Debugging for the one click method? Is your captivate I896? More info please.

Should I flash back to stock with odin and then try to root

What ROM are you running?
Titanuim Backup probably wasn't given su permissions.
1. Have you tried rebooting it. Sometimes all it needs is a simple reboot and when you start TB, it will ask for su permissions.
2. Go to superuser. If you see titanium backup, click on it, forget, and reboot.
Just oneclickstock, load your ROM, and root again.
Maybe it's an app that's getting in the way?

Ok so I put it into download mode and tried to use Odin. It said it was done, but nothing was changed on the Captivate. Any ideas?

did you follow the directions to a T?
ODIN must be open before you connect phone in download mode
I used a different one click root and it worked thanks for the help.

Root problem on CM9 (i9001)

Hello!
I have a Galaxy S Plus, and I've installed CM9 by ivendor beta 4 on my lovely phone. After flashing become completed, I tried to use Titanium Backup. It starts, than it says: 'sorry I can't get root access, pls feed me with root etc.'. So I tried to update the su binary, and the busybox. Rebooted, started TI Backup again, but nothing changed. So I decided to re-root this great phone. Downloaded Root-i9001-Signed.zip, flashed it via CWM recovery 6. I started the TI Backup again but nothing changed, can't get root access. Pls help me. Thx.

[Q] lost root on JB OTA update Razr i

Hi... I've been trawling through the forums but found nothing specific to my phone. I recently received an update on my RAZR i to JB (bootloader unlocked). However, I didn't realise I'd be in danger of losing root access (I know now!)... hence didn't try any rootkeeper programs etc. If I go into ADB I get error "Segmentation fault" when running SU. Anyone know how to restore root access please?

Had the same error while on ICS, try to get different "busybox" with extended set of commands or just re-install it

Thanks for the tip but I've lost root so can't install busybox... and didn't have it installed before. Just tried flashing CWM for Razr i through fastboot and that didn't work properly either. Now device is not even found through ADB. Really need some good advice before I brick the thing!
Had my su backuped with rootkeeper on ICS 32. Worked like a charme when upgrading to ICS 40, but when i installed the JB OTA, i can't restore the su anymore (rootkeeper says all is restored successfully, but no root at all).
I still have the su-backup in the system partition, but when trying to access I get the same "segmentation fault" error.
My BL is still locked, so i'm just curious about the error and if there is any workaround to fix it...

Forget ADB atm, you need to re-flash the whole ROM first. Download RSD 6.14, take 91.2.26001.Retail.en.EU - 4.1.2 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1936512 and flash it first. It flashes CWM as well and pushes root files up. You you will need then is to boot to CWM recovery and install RAZRiRoot2.zip.

Thanks for your help. Have downloaded RSD 6.14 and it recognised my device (or something at least... it says N/A for all info etc). Am currently on 91.2.26001.Orange.en.GB so should I download that ROM from the link you sent or doesn't it really matter? Is a factory reset at this stage advisable or would that not really solve anything with regards to getting root back? Also note - ADB does recognise my device... when I tried to flash CWM it somehow switched off USB debugging. Still have Segmentation Fault on running su though.

Thanks a lot. This totally solved my problem. In fact as ADB was recognising my device I decided not to use RSD 6.14 and used the FlashAndRoot script included in the 91.2.26001.Retail.en.EU - 4.1.2 package. Am now on Jelly Bean and have root access.

[Q] IncS S-OFF but no root access HELP!!

Hey guys
So a couple of months back i had a huge problem, my usb port broke and so i tried unrooting it so that I could bring it back to my carrier so they could fix it but I looked everywhere for a way to unroot without using the usb port and the only way i found was to go in Superuser and click TEMP UNROOT
so i checked that box and i lost root access. By doing this i lose the binary file for superuser or something (Sorry im a newb at this stuff ) so when i actually fixed my phone myself i no longer had root access. So i then proceeded to revert to stock rom thinking it would give back S-on... it didnt.
Now im stuck on Bell mobility stock rom with S-Off and no root access
I want to get back root access i just dont know how, someone please show me how because im not able to uncheck temp unroot i tried every single way and downloaded every one of the super user app and none work because theres no SU binary file.
Please help!
Also if i have to please show me how to revert back to S-on and i will re-root my phone from there
thanks and have a great day guy
PS: Reminder
i want help to either get back root access since unchecking temp unroot in SU doesnt work at all
OR IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE,
please tell me hoe to revert to S-on and from there I will re-root my phone
and ALSO
i cant even boot in recovery its like its gone ...
i downloaded rom manager and when i click boot into recovery
it says error occured while attempting to run priviledged commands
THANKS!!!
Try flashing superuser again.
http://androidsu.com/superuser/ download 3.1.3 arm signed, put it on sd and flash via recovery..
I FORGOT TO MENTION
i cant even boot in recovery its like its gone ...
i downloaded rom manager and when i click boot into recovery
it says error occured while attempting to run priviledged commands
Try redoing the steps on how to s-off your device, and for the recovery, try reflashing it using fastboot

what file manager are you using? have you updated supersu to latest? latest flashable UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip
some possible solutions could be:
- reflash stock rom, root again
- clear app data of file manager then try again
- clear app data of Supersu then try again
- try one of those pre-rooted stock roms in the development thread
- in your recovery if you have some option like fix permissions, then do that and try again
