[Q] IncS S-OFF but no root access HELP!! - HTC Incredible S

Hey guys
So a couple of months back i had a huge problem, my usb port broke and so i tried unrooting it so that I could bring it back to my carrier so they could fix it but I looked everywhere for a way to unroot without using the usb port and the only way i found was to go in Superuser and click TEMP UNROOT
so i checked that box and i lost root access. By doing this i lose the binary file for superuser or something (Sorry im a newb at this stuff ) so when i actually fixed my phone myself i no longer had root access. So i then proceeded to revert to stock rom thinking it would give back S-on... it didnt.
Now im stuck on Bell mobility stock rom with S-Off and no root access
I want to get back root access i just dont know how, someone please show me how because im not able to uncheck temp unroot i tried every single way and downloaded every one of the super user app and none work because theres no SU binary file.
Please help!
Also if i have to please show me how to revert back to S-on and i will re-root my phone from there
thanks and have a great day guy
PS: Reminder
i want help to either get back root access since unchecking temp unroot in SU doesnt work at all
OR IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE,
please tell me hoe to revert to S-on and from there I will re-root my phone
and ALSO
i cant even boot in recovery its like its gone ...
i downloaded rom manager and when i click boot into recovery
it says error occured while attempting to run priviledged commands
THANKS!!!

Try flashing superuser again.
http://androidsu.com/superuser/ download 3.1.3 arm signed, put it on sd and flash via recovery..

I FORGOT TO MENTION
i cant even boot in recovery its like its gone ...
i downloaded rom manager and when i click boot into recovery
it says error occured while attempting to run priviledged commands

Try redoing the steps on how to s-off your device, and for the recovery, try reflashing it using fastboot

(SOLVED)Backup recovery image fails

Hey everyone, I'm sorry if this has already been answered but I've been searching for hours and cant find a solution... Also, please move to this thread to the correct forum if needed, although this seemed appropriate.
I have and HTC Hero CDMA and it is already rooted via z4root(did not install busybox for some reason).
I've downloaded ROM Manager (both free and premium), Titanium Backup, and RecoveryFlasher 1.1.2 and 1.1.3
I'm trying to back up my current ROM but am unable to do so. I've tried using Rom Manager which gives me "An error occurred while flashing your recovery" when trying to download ClockworkMod Recovery
I've also tried using FlashRec(both versions listed above) and get "Backup Failed: Could not run command"
Anytime I try to boot to a recovery, I just get the screen with the exclamation point.
I'm totally lost. I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere and I just can't seem to figure it out. I even tried downloading a recovery and pushing it to my sdcard. Nothing works...
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm trying to do a nandroid backup/current ROM backup so I can install CM6 in the near future. Thanks in advance!!!

titanium back up will install busy box if you click on the problems button.Im not an expert by any means but I believe you're not able to get into recovery becuase you have no recovery image. Did your root method give you super user in your app drawer?
Can you ADB? If so, are you able to get to "#" - SU?
1. Try and check if you have SU permissions, at all. If the answer to either of the above questions is NO, then you don't have root
2. If you have root, did you try flashing recovery from within ROM manager? If it failed, the easiest way to get around would to RUU back to .5 and follow regaw's root, recovery, flash ROM method. You can find all the information on the wiki: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Hero_CDMA.png.
I do have su rights and yes I tried flashing recovery from within Rom manager but it doesn't work. As far as busybox ill try installing it via titanium backup. I'm not really sure how to ruu back to 1.5 but I will search for how to do it.
Thanks for the replies, I'll give u an update asap.

I downloaded busybox via Titanium Backup and it was successful but its not in my list of apps. I noticed that it downloaded to /system/bin and when I click on it I get "file not found"
EDIT: Would it be easier if I just reset to factory default, root from there, then do the Rom manager to install the Clockworkmod recovery? (not sure if its 1.2 or 1.5...Jan 2009 is when I got it)

Sounds like something is not right. I would recommend you to RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Hero_CDMA.png#Official_RUU) - HTC Hero CDMA 2.1 RUU - Rootable via regaw_leinad Root Guide.
It is very easy, the RUU takes about 15/20 mins and then the root and such. Once you run the RUU, read the post properly and follow the steps, you should be good to go.
After long hours of working on this I was finally able to get the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1 to work. I'm not sure what exactly i did differently as I was going through every possible way to boot into any recovery.
Thanks for your help everyone as I am doing Nandroid backup as i speak (or type )
Glad to see you got it

[Q] Problem with MIUI Rom, version 1.12.25

Hi There,
I'm running the above ROM that I had flashed yesterday, and I had realised today that the ROM hadn't given me root permissions.
I have followed many guides on how to fix this.
One of the main ways was too enable root permissions in SuperUser, but it isn't working as it's not showing that option.
I can't access Recovery Mode or download mode at the moment, even though the ROM is running perfectly other than not been able to use root apps.
I have tried a factory reset so the ROM is back as it was when I first flashed, but I still can't enable root.
I am wondering, is there a way I can flash an MIUI rom without root permission and the ability to access recovery?
If so, could you please point me in the direction of fixing this?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You could try to acces recovery through the ROM Manager app. Are you sure your ROM isn't rooted? Check if you have an app called Superuser installed.
SuperUser only lists applications that have asked for SU permissions. You can't add them manually.
Try running an application that needs SU access (like titanium backup), and see if it throws an error message, or popup that allows it to get SU access.
I've installed Titanium Backup and it says.. Root access: X FAILED.
I can't update my superuser binary files because it can't gain root access.
And yes I do have superuser installed.
I can't get into recovery mode using ROM Manager either.
Is there a way I can reflash a ROM? I do have mobile ODIN.. but it says it doesn't work with the MIUI kernel..

Not much you can do if you don't get access to download mode or recovery.
What you can do if it doesnt work is try the USB Jig that will force your phone into download/recovery mode. They are very cheap on E-bay i've heard
Just brought a jig, I'll keep you posted
Thank you

Help with cwm recovery install and wsod

Hello
I finally got bored with my phone and decided to try some custom roms. Im not new to flashing roms but this was my first attempt with the vivid.
I unlocked my bootloader and s-off my phone using the Juopunutbear trick. I updated the hboot and perm-rooted the device. I did this all following the superguide instructions.
This is where I think I messed up. I tried to use the rom manager to back up my phone and install cwm which im thinking i shouldnt have. I installed the app and hit flash clockworkmod recovery. I got confused on what to do after that.
I can boot into the phone fine with no issues but I can not hboot into recovery it just hangs on the htc white screen.
I dont know where to go from here. can i salvage this process or step back in someway? Also did I install cwm or not complete the process or was it already installed as part of the superguide perm root instructions? Im a little confused on the whole recovery part.
Thanks for the help
Either flashimagegui from the themes and apps thread...
Or manually fastboot flash recovery *image name*
I recommend twrp...
Easy way to get it..
Download goomanager from the market... Open... Grant root...
Hit the menu capacitive button... Choose install openrecovery script...
Download it... Trying to flash it with goomanager is broken... Use either method mentioned above

Thanks for the reply. I ended up re-rooting the phone(Step 4 superguide) and that gave me access to the recovery menu again.
Yeah, don't use rom manager it's old and outdated

[Q] lost root on JB OTA update Razr i

Hi... I've been trawling through the forums but found nothing specific to my phone. I recently received an update on my RAZR i to JB (bootloader unlocked). However, I didn't realise I'd be in danger of losing root access (I know now!)... hence didn't try any rootkeeper programs etc. If I go into ADB I get error "Segmentation fault" when running SU. Anyone know how to restore root access please?

Had the same error while on ICS, try to get different "busybox" with extended set of commands or just re-install it

Thanks for the tip but I've lost root so can't install busybox... and didn't have it installed before. Just tried flashing CWM for Razr i through fastboot and that didn't work properly either. Now device is not even found through ADB. Really need some good advice before I brick the thing!
Had my su backuped with rootkeeper on ICS 32. Worked like a charme when upgrading to ICS 40, but when i installed the JB OTA, i can't restore the su anymore (rootkeeper says all is restored successfully, but no root at all).
I still have the su-backup in the system partition, but when trying to access I get the same "segmentation fault" error.
My BL is still locked, so i'm just curious about the error and if there is any workaround to fix it...

Forget ADB atm, you need to re-flash the whole ROM first. Download RSD 6.14, take 91.2.26001.Retail.en.EU - 4.1.2 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1936512 and flash it first. It flashes CWM as well and pushes root files up. You you will need then is to boot to CWM recovery and install RAZRiRoot2.zip.

Thanks for your help. Have downloaded RSD 6.14 and it recognised my device (or something at least... it says N/A for all info etc). Am currently on 91.2.26001.Orange.en.GB so should I download that ROM from the link you sent or doesn't it really matter? Is a factory reset at this stage advisable or would that not really solve anything with regards to getting root back? Also note - ADB does recognise my device... when I tried to flash CWM it somehow switched off USB debugging. Still have Segmentation Fault on running su though.

Thanks a lot. This totally solved my problem. In fact as ADB was recognising my device I decided not to use RSD 6.14 and used the FlashAndRoot script included in the 91.2.26001.Retail.en.EU - 4.1.2 package. Am now on Jelly Bean and have root access.

[Q] Need help installing CM on my LGP970

Hi,
I am new to this, kind of have no clue how to proceed. I checked other sticky posts, but its a bit confusing. I currently have ICS(4.0.4) on my P970, i want to install CM on it. I have already rooted my device using UnLockRoot. I then installed ROM Manager and tried to do Flash Recovery, but it gets stuck at 100% and nothing happens. I have already downloaded the CM version which i want and copied to my SD card. Whats the next step after rooting the phone ?
Thanks

I had the same probem. You need to try a few times to flash recovery untill Rom Manager will ask for superuser acces. You can also change for superuser acces from "ask" to "allow" in superuser app.
Cheers

I have tried it several times, its stuck at 100%. When i try to reboot into recovery, my phone does a factory reset, so am guessing the custom flash recovery didnt happen. Any other suggestions ?

It's stuck at 100% because Rom Manager doesn't have root acces.Update your SuperSU,open it: ACCES=GRANT try flash recovery 2-3 times. If doesn't work ACCES=PROMT again 2-3 tries.
Also you can try to backup you current ROM using Rom Manager to see if ask for su acces.
Good Luck!
