[Q] Battery Door? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Anybody have any idea where I can get a battery door for the Vivid/Raider?
I got a sweet deal on one but its missing the battery cover Currently I have a trimmed up gift card taped to the back so the big hole is covered up. I found one at baka.ca but they want $26 for it. I work at Best Buy, if I'm going to pay that for one ill just steal the one off our display model

Call HTC.. I made a thread about this aswell. Just call them and they'll send it free.

I called AT&T and was sent to HTC whom sent me to some other company. Once I explained my issue to the third representative I was told HTC had been sending quite a few people with the same problem to them and there was nothing they could do to help me. Ill call HTC again and see what they say this time, I was just curious if there were any other third party venders I could order one from.

Try a Case
I'm sorry you lost the battery cover. I can see how it could easily happen. Bad design, HTC, bad.
For those of us more fortunate, I would recommend a cover or case of some type. Yes, they make the whole thing bigger and heavier, but we won't lose the battery cover, and our Vivids will have some protection.
Ironically, on some earlier HTC models, users complained about how difficult it was to remove the battery cover.

Mine slides off ~70% of the time, really annoying! Probably will have to break down and buy an otterbox or similar case, never used a case before though so not sure I'm gonna like it..

I've gotten two battery doors in the mail, the stock one felt loose on the bottom side, and the first one I received was looser than a prom where, and and the third did the trick. The other culprit is the plastic clamp that the battery doorbar hinges onto in the back of the phone, it can wear out over time.

After talking with my third HTC Representative I finally have a battery cover on the way, should be here sometime next week!
Hopefully anybody else that has this problem in the future has a little better luck than me!

HTC Incredible pre-release battery door for sale

I have a Droid Incredible Pre-release battery door and want to sell it. I've only used it once and got a few months after the release. This is extremely rare and I rather not sell it but i need the cash. It has the the cool android dude on it and says HTC Incredible. It also comes with the inner cover that you can replace to get red accented power and volume buttons. It is in great condition. Price is negotiable. I haven't seen anyone else ever sell one of these so I know its extremely rare and I don't have another one. If anyone may like to buy this please PM me with an offer. I have had this in my display case above my desk but I need to sell it now. I remember some people on the XDA wanted it so Im posting it here. XD
This auction has been moved to ebay:

That, sir, looks amazing.

I think its really cool. It was the original battery door to the Incredible, but before it was released they changed it to the the cheaper black rubber door.
$20. LMK. pay pal ready.
Will help pay for something better than a web cam.
I'll offer $30 USD.
very sexy, not good for me since i use a case but i have a question,
what is the process of replacing the inner cover?

To Replace the inner cover, you have to unscrew the screws and carefully pry off the undercover. This will void your warranty but it will also allow you to have red accented buttons XD.
Id totally enter this auction if I didn't feel like I've already spent a fortune in accessories and batteries and whatnot.
Tis a damn sexy case though, that's for certain. Dunno if id be willing to void my warranty to get the red accents, however.

I've seen this somewhere before. But I don't think it works on the actually live unit, maybe on a dummy.
I want one of those but 110.00? What do they usually go for?

Point is they usually don't go for anything, because nobody sells them.
I researched and found out that this battery door was on some dummy units. It's not actually a "pre-release" door.
I even found them on eBay for $23.

^Nice. I wish I would have seen that a couple of weeks ago before I bought my red one from Verizon.

youre kinda right but these are dummy phones you found on ebay, means the back door is glued/screwed on and not interchangeable...so even if it's not a prerelease door at least it will fit on someones phone
edit: I mean the OP's backdoor will fit...the dummy phone backs WILL NOT fit our phones, I hope ppl didnt think I meant the other way around

After looking at this Ebay page more closely, I found that the battery covers that they have and I have are different. The speaker hole on mine isn't even that shape. If you compare my photos to theirs, you will see how theirs is fake. The original prerelease battery covers have the main speaker hole the way mine does.
yeah they're not the same as the one you have..the ones you have were sold on a site a couple months back but sold out
Isn't it backwards? The camera and LED ports are on the right????

[Open Thread] Thoughts On Otterbox Case For EVO Shift 4G

So I just wanted to start a thread for myself and anyone else who may want to read it
Basically anyone who has an otterbox case for the evo shift or has seen/used it or whatever just leave your opinions/reviews whatever. I am thinking of buying one so just wondering
I don't have one for the Shift but I've used an Otterbox on other devices and would recommend it if you have the slightest fear of damaging your handset.
I believe the last one I used was a Commuter which completely encased the handset and seemed to be able to take a hit. The back was too smooth for me so I had a little trouble re-learning how to hold it and the thickness of the handset increased significantly but overall it felt safe. Worth the extra money.
I am using the otterbox commuter case on my shift right now. I like it a lot. The fit and finish seems like it is completely a part of the phone. Only two complaints are:
1. If I try to move an icon from one hone screen to another, the piece covering the screen makes it difficult to move it to the "edge" - not a big deal, you learn to adjust.
2. When opening the slider, I hear a click sound, sounding like the little tabs holding the upper piece on are catching as it moves. Again, kinda not picky.
All in all, I think it is a great case and makes me worry a lot less about dropping my device. I would definitely recommend it.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Awesome seems like ill want to pick it up. I recently cracked the screen on my shift and made a few scuff marks so that's what seriously turned me to getting the case.

Tip for putting on the included screen protector...patience and a clean work surface! I couldn't get it to work well at first, then I ended up dropping it on the carpet. I was ready to give up on it until my wife took it from me and got it to work. So...if you have the patience of an ADHD kid on meth like I do...lol. It was my first screen protector too so. Anyways have fun!

definitely worth getting. i have the commuter series otterbox and it makes my phone look and feel like a beast. only thing that annoys me sometimes is the dust/lint that gets stuck to the rubber on the case, but i just blow it off.

I haven't had a problem opening the slider at all.
I have one and love it! Top of the line case, looks good feels good and protects good! I would totally recommend it to anyone with a Shift!..
I use it on my shift, and have had them on two other phones. Like everyone else said, its a great case, and really does look like a part of the phone.

I'm now on my second otterbox after a free factory replacement, my only nit pics are the usb port cover doesn't stay closed, and it clicks everytime I open it, feels like one of the clips is catching....

Just got the Commuter series and I'm a fan so far. Makes the phone feel more substantial and gives a better grip. The only issue was with the headphone and USB port covers, which didn't stay down. I just removed them, but DON'T Rip them off, it'll tear the rubber casing. Found that out on the USB port one so I cut the headphone one off. Either way makes the rubber a little loose around the port but not hugely annoying unless you're a perfectionist(which I can be). I'll just apply a little glue and seat it on the plastic frame.

I just hope the back isn't the same when I get mine.

Nope I can confirm that, being really careful you can take the back without any problem..
I Think that the front parts being hard to take off it's a good thing.
Had mine for 2 or 3 months now
Bought it from Amazon for like $25 when they finally came available for the shift and had to wait a month before I got it in hand.
I'm not as impressed as i would be with the protection if it was a defender case. I had the black case with fake carbon fiber and belt clip before. The otterbox commuter is better then that one, by how much I'm not sure.
I dropped my phone about a month ago. I don't know if it just hit the right place of the case, and the back case came flying off the phone, the side clips where busted off, so the back case would not stay on any more.
I decided to call up otterbox and see if it was under warr. and if they would replace it. AMAZINGLY they said YES so they shipped me a new one for free i didn't even have to pay shipping. NICE. It was quick and easy I thought that was soooo cool. Because of that i will continue to buy otterbox, and recommend them to others.
In future i hope to buy defender cases (better protection) which means no more slider phones which i think i am ready for now that touch screens are so much better. All my old phones have been sliders with full keyboards from back in the day with my old HTC t-mobile MDA, which made me find this site.
Thats my 2 cents.

Otterbox Defender Vivid/Raider long term wear report

Lasted me just abt six months of light regular use. It's still on this phone as i write and its protective capability is still almost all intact, but the plastic and silicone are both breaking down: Replacement time.
The plastic of both the inner case and the protective belt clip is somewhat brittle. The retaining tab on the belt clip that holds the phone in, snapped off after less than a month rendering the belt clip useless, as it wouldn't hold the phone anymore. The little snaps that clip the inner case halves together are beginning to go; two of them broke in the last couple weeks.
These both look to me like design issues where the characteristics of the material used weren't accounted for as well as they might've been.
The silicone is tearing in a couple places, around the volume button and one of the plastic nubbins that the belt clip tab clicks into. This last tear is progressing out to the edge of the case, another 3mm or so to go.
i liked this case; phone felt really safe with it. i liked the really tall lip around the screen that made the phone super-easy to hold, even as it made typing a bit of a challenge with the "keys" at the edge of the screen. This is a big plus as this isn't the easiest of phones to keep a safe grip on while using it.
The built-in screen protector isn't so hot as it let dirt get in at the top between it and the screen, and also doesn't contact the screen at one bottom corner so one has to press down with disproportionate effort there to get the touch to register. It's where the keypad is so slows down typing.
Overall i'm glad it's on the phone. It's big and heavy and clunky and keeps the device well protected from harm and easy to hold on to. It's also one of the costliest cases and i was hoping it'd last me at least a year: i'm a fairly careful guy too, don't beat mercilessly on my gadgets or anything.
Think i'll try the Ballistics SG case next.

-- This tall lip is a part of the polycarbonate hard inner case and the screen protector is glued to it at the bottom. Makes for a very secure thumb hold and i expect will be one of the features of this case i'll miss.

Note that only some AT&T stores will. It's manager discretion and some will be more agreeable to it than others.
Otterbox breaking clips
I have had the same problem with with my Otterbox box case, the small clipe that hold the plastic case close keeps breaking after i have to open it up to clean my screen on my HTC vivid. Because the top is open, I'm cleaning my screen a lot.
just contact the supplier through their site and tell them what happen, and they will send you a new case for free. I'm on my second case now. it seems that they know there is a problem with those fragile snaps.

Mine lasted over a year, and that's with frequently pulling it apart to pull the battery. Now half of the plastic clips that hold it together are gone, and the rubber flap for the USB port is starting to tear, almost ripping off. If you pay attention when taking it apart, it should last way longer than a year. My only gripe is its a bit bulky, not very pocket friendly.

I'm on my 2nd Replacement case as I have broke 2 belt clips within 2 months. Otterbox has been excellent about sending a replacement in both instances. I also removed the built in screen protector and have purchased a different one from Amazon. Overall the case has been decent. Happy with it for the most part. I still am using the actual case from the original but now a couple of the tabs have broken off the polycarbonate shell. Guess I will have to switch out for one of the replacements they have sent me. Unfortunately the belt clip seems to have been the most fragile part for my experience.
Wow i haven't used my otterbox defender, cause one of the clips, of the inside broke, the screen protector is almost gone (its broking) and the outer layer of silicone doesn't like, glue? Stick to the hard case!! I'm going to contact otterbox and see what they said! Thanks guys!!

No receipt required. The photo with the case and your name and today's date is all the proof of ownership they need. I finally sent my info in last night, got the reply email, emailed the photos and today got the email with the Order Confirmation. The only odd thing is that I put in my PO Box as my address, but the order PDF says it's shipping via FedEx. I wonder how it will work out.

DIY Solution (with photo) for the official ASUS Travel Cover

Yep, I was silly enough to buy the official cover. Half my fault, half the guy at the store not telling me the right information. He said it should have magnets to stay shut and wake the device, obviously it doesn't. I do like the material, and how easy it is to insert and remove the Nexus 7 itself for longer periods of use. Plus it feels decent with it on, still tough and relatively thin and portable, which is a big reason why I moved to the Nexus 7.
I'd looked at things like the Poetic Portfolio, which has had a lot of problems, and similar cases on ebay, but seeing as I've already bought the official cover I thought I'd do something about it.
So here it is, a simple rubber band. Keeps the lid closed while I'm not using it, and it maintains the low profile of the device without needing one of the thicker book covers! For the price of the cover, yeah I would have loved some magnets in there too, but some stores here in Australia already have aisles full of iPad mini cases and a total of THREE Nexus 7 cases.
I'm looking at upgrading my rubber band to a larger material elastic band that doesn't require as much stretching, but we'll see. At least I'll have some flexibility, what colours go well with grey??
Photo: http://imgur.com/l5KTg.jpg
Edit: Bought some black elastic and made it more like a proper book cover, just stitched a line of it into a circle. The band, when flattened, is about 3/4 of the height of the tablet so it stretches out enough to stay on and keep the lid closed well.

weird! salesman told me the same thing, that the cover has a magnet which is able to turn the screen on and off, and i bought it!. i am not sure who is giving wrong information to all the salesmen. i haven't opened the box so thinking if i should just return it. i like it though, and the bigger problem is that i don't like any other cases available at the moment. hmm..
don't care much about the missing "active" feature of the case but the front flap just haging off kinda sounds silly. how bad it is really? i don't want to use this rubber band workaround, although it does look cool, but i know i'm gonna lose it sooner or later. maybe I need to search for more DIY solutions.

weird! salesman told me the same thing, that the cover has a magnet which is able to turn the screen on and off, and i bought it!. i am not sure who is giving wrong information to all the salesmen. i haven't opened the box so thinking if i should just return it. i like it though, and the bigger problem is that i don't like any other cases available at the moment. hmm..
don't care much about the missing "active" feature of the case but the front flap just haging off kinda sounds silly. how bad it is really? i don't want to use this rubber band workaround, although it does look cool, but i know i'm gonna lose it sooner or later. maybe I need to search for more DIY solutions.

I feel like I've looked through every solution. I've persisted with this case because it feels like it will last and it is the kind of size I want. It doesn't have a stand or anything, but I don't feel like I need one right now. If I do, there are a million options for tablet stands.
I'm about to update the OP with a new photo. I've bought some elastic and stitched it together to make a better solution than the rubber band.
I have also done something similar. I stuck a low power magnet inside with a sticker to hold it in place. As for the rubber band, I decided to put some industrial strength Velcro on the side.

Chris.k or anyone good with dremel - I need someone to mod Otterbox 4 Mugen extended

Hi guys, ever since I saw the thread about modifying the Otterbox for Mugen, I can't stop thinking about it. Even more so because the Mugen case is not very good - it is too tight and the phone keeps turning itself off. I am not good with tools and frankly I will never succeed doing this on my own in a million years and I don't know anyone who would do this well. I was hoping someone who did this already and is skilled would do this for me and I'd pay you for your trouble. It will still take a few days for me to receive the Otterbox but I'd like to ship it off for modification as soon as I get it. It would also be great if it was someone inside EU so it won't be stopped at customs. I'd cover return shipping as well. I am sure I would not be the only customer either...

That is a good idea but I live in a strange rural area where wood work shop would not do this, I am willing to bet on it. You can't get anyone to do what "they don't do" here. Anything out out the ordinary is impossible to get. Noone would be able to understand why I need such a big battery and case to begin with. I am the village weirdo LOL.
Most people on this forum don't understand why you need such a big battery
swyped all these spelling errors from my galaxy note 2
Dont cut the defender. Opening a hole in the back will direct any back impact straight to the inside of your phone.

And I don't understand why some (not most) users can't a c c e p t that some users do need it, even if they don't understand it.

I am sure it will lose some protection but it is better than no case at all and can't be worse than Mugen case. Anyway, there is yet no evidence that a n y back impact will go straight inside the phone. Edit: I mean to say ALL impact will go straight inside phone - it has to be a bit better than naked ance certainly better than Mugen case.
In any case, I decided I want this mod. I need someone who would do it.
It is your phone, your case and your money. And you dont need any hard evidence to accept that all the force will go inside. Just open the back and push the battery with your hand and tell me what you see. Now multiply this and imagine what will happen if you drop it since as you see in the photos the battery is higher than the defender back. Of course you will have much better side protection.Anyway good luck.
Why not ask the OP that mod his otterbox defender to help u??

I am agaimst this mod but I will tell you how to do it. Mark the square you want to cut first and then drill one small hole on every corner. Finally use a dremel and cut from hole to hole. If you are afraid that you wont cut in a straight line then drill more holes on every edge. It is really simple.

I will look into that if I can't find anyone. Truth be told I never used any of those tools before in my life.

It is really easy. And the holes in the corners will both guide you and stop you from cutting more than you should. I wish I could help you but I live in Greece.
Put double sided tape on the outside of the battery, insert battery into phone and back cover as normal. Slowly pull off back cover making sure the battery is sticking to the back cover. Now you can trace the battery exactly where you need to cut. At first make the hole smaller than needed so you can shave off a little at a time to make it a perfect fit. Just take your time with it and it'll turn out fine. I plan to do this with a cheaper case and battery.
