[Resolved] Need help Unbricking and Installing CM7.1 - Motorola Droid 3

This seems to be the only place I can post.
Basically the title.
Here is some info to avoid some easy questions:
Rooted D3 (obviously)
5.6.890 (I think those were the numbers, I am sure it wasn't 5.7 something)
Using the Droid 3 bootstrapper. NOT safestrap, though in Hashcode's post, he said he updated it to be compatible with boostrap.
Flashed Steel Droid v3 about 2 weeks ago, week later flashed to the Bionic Blue theme.
Ran the "Safe bloat removal script (50+ apps) [UPDATED 9/1/2011]" script.
Ran the script to get my bloat back.
No problems until....
Tried to flash to CM7.1 Alpha using Droid 3 Bootstrapper
Bootloop.
tl;dr: How do I correctly install CM7.1?

you may just need to boot into andriod recovery and clear cache. i dont use bootstrap anymore, but its essentially the same. boot into recovery, format /system (under mounts and storage) then install CM7, factory reset (wipe data/cache) then boot her up. Safestrap is the way to go though

So I tried again, wiping my cache and /system, this time I ended up with a soft brick (Only thing appearing is the Motorola Dual Core screen). Clockwork Recovery doesn't appear on startup anymore.
How do I:
a) Unbrick and
b) Correctly install CM7.1?
Thanks to anyone who responds in advance.
EDIT: I should have read more closely, the order I performed the actions was:
1. Install CM7.1
2. Install Gapps
3. Format cache
4. Format /system.
5. Factory reset

Ya formatting /system after flashing removes the cm7 rom. Try
Format /system
Install cm7/gapps
Wipe data/cache
xt860, android 2.3.5, Monster rom

Thanks for that. Any idea on how to unsoftbrick though?
Also, the link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255198
is dead.

if you formated /system after installing the rom, then you need to SBF. start the phone with m+pwr, use vol down to reach AP Fastboot, then use vol up to select. download RSD 5.5 and the sbf file. check out the RSD thread in the dev section. and you are on verizon, correct?
edit: dang i see what youre referring to. the 5.6.890 download isnt working. i have it, but i dont know i dont have an account to upload to. And on my 5meg pipe itll still take a few min lol
2ndedit: i cant upload. sorry i dont have a professional account and its 455MB.. check this out it works http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-droid-3-fastboot-files-55959-and-56890/

I'm following this guide, figured I'd just re root and install cwm again and restore my back up. Will that work?

lol yes youve got it. follow the instructions. also, do not freak out if after you SBF it still does not boot up. Even after the SBF (RSD will show rebooting) and you could bootloop on the animation. if that happens, boot into recovery using M+pwr, select android recovery, when you get the android with the !, use vol up and down and you'll get another menu, and clear cache. then you'll be ok
and also, dont use cwm, use hashcodes safestrap. read up on safestrap, and then you can flash without worrying about bricking

[solved] Soft brick, tablet resets during recovery activities

I have the wifi only 7310 model of the 8.9
Overcme CwM Recovery 5.1.2.6
ROM was Galaxian Soup AOSP 1.6
My tablet resets during recovery. Half through a data wipe ROM install ROM backup or ROM restore it will reset and reboot.
It first happened when i booted into recovery and triedROM issue. to make a back up of m y current ROM and attempt to flash the aokp one. It reset during the backup process.
It shouldn't be a ROM issue. My tablet did this once before, it would reset when i did anything involvng dataon an Overcome ROM i think. Data wipe/backup etc. I left it alone while the ROM still worked and tried again a week later with no issues.
Any ideas? Now i have a soft brick that cant boot past the Samsung Screen. I can get into recovery and download modes.
EDIT* added a video
EDIT2:
The issue was solved.
What ended up happening what i attempted to flash back to stock software, ODIN would stall during the system.img. From this point i thought it was done, but i could still get into the stock recovery, i used the stock recovery to wipe the data after several failed attempts in a similar manner to this video.
One day it just worked. I could finally wipe data and cache without a reset. But i could't flash a file because ODIN would still freeze on the system.img. It was suwandiapr who showed me his walkthrough to push an file to recovery from adb. Thank you so much
I do NOT know why it my tablet/recovery starting resetting when i wanted to do a data/cache wipe/restore or why it decided to start doing it again. I tried the 5.5 cwm, the overcome 5.1 and the stock and none of them worked. Today i tried it on an off chance of boredom and it started working again. It is a confusing situation but that is what happened.
Again that you so much to Mr.Home and especially suwandiapr for all your help
> If you had a back up you can do advanced restore of just your system partition to get you tablet back on, though you will probably still have problem with the recovery
> If not, download the stock firmware tar.
Boot up to download mode using the power + vol combo.
flash the stock tar through odin.
boot up to download mode again.
this time flash the cwm recovery.
boot up to recovery mode.
wipe dalvikcache and data.
install aokp and gapps.
if it fails (cwm recovery stuck and reboots by itself during wiping /data partition or dalvik cache)
,chances are your data partition had been corrupted.
You can try fixing this by reflashing the stock firmware tar through odin again
just this time you need to have re-partition ticked.
and repeat above steps.
Take note that this will format the content your sd card too apart from the /data partition
EDIT: Please post this on the general section next time

Download Odin 1.85
Install Samsung USB drivers (should come with Kies)
Download stock firmware from samfirmware
Check the box beside PDA
Put the .md5 file into the PDA slot
Leave all other options on defaults
Put tablet into Download Mode (power and vol -, select the one that isn't recovery)
Connect it to your PC
Press START in Odin
Wait ~10 minutes
NOTE: this shouldn't wipe the internal sdcard. if you need to wipe that, select repartition and give Odin a PIT FOR THE P7310/7300 MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT ONE OR YOU WILL BRICK BADLY.

I understand this might be a development related question, but questions do not belong here.
im still bricked so if ANYONE has any ideas please let me know.
Do you have a backup of yours in computer? If yes.. Push your file to device with adb...
Or replace with cwm 5.5.0.4.. ( if you not familiar with odin)
From cwm recovery 5.1.2.6 mount your /data and /system..
After that push your file (cwm 5.5.0.4. Zip and your backup file) to sdcard trough adb
Install cwm 5.5.0.4 from your recovery..then reboot..
Before you install your backup file.. Try to wipe and reboot your phone.. If problem still exist.. Your assumption about ROM may right.. But if your booting problem disappear.. I think its because yor recovery..

I never try it before.. how about stock recovery? It will wipe your data partition include SD card..But it worth to try if you dont like ODIN..
here is the zip version..Instal from recovery..
Edit: Do with your own risk..
After looking at the video, I noticed something similar that had happened to me before.
It happened when I tried to wipe the "cache" first, instead of wiping only the "dalvik cache".
After that, whenever i tried to wipe the dalvik cache/reset factory data,
the recovery reboots by itself halfway through.

Check the thread in my signature on the ODIN How-To, Drivers (no Kies/Bloat needed for drivers) and more. If I were you I'd ODIN so the Stock Recovery is restored in place. Looks like something went wrong in your CWM Recovery's installation (could be a bad download you had, it happens). All the files you need (except for the ODIN image) are in my General Guide.

Well, i just don't wipe cache. Only the dalvikcache and all went well..
I have a soft brick, no memory or sd card data. I can get into recovery but i don't have any files on the tablet to flash.
Are you windows user? if yes..
Just like my answer from previous post.. See page one!
Mount your /system and /data partition from recovery menu..(from cwm)
From your computer.. Use this tools for pushing the file flashable.zip to device..
After that you can flash a new rom from recovery..

Thank you so much sir. I worked and I no longer have a brick

Need some help with safeboot

I just got this droid 3 off of craigslist, and it was already rooted. I think it has like a dual boot system going on, because on one it has cyanogen, (when i enable safe mode), and a rom that i am not familiar with when it is disabled. The problem I am having is there is no "install from sd card" option on either enable or disabled.
I am trying to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278056 (steel droid) but I cannot get it.

If I were you, I would FXZ (SBF) the phone to box stock to remove anything the previous owner had done. Then, I'd root it, install SafeStrap and flash a Steel Droid (in your case) to the safe system.

+1 SBFing your phone. I'm sure the guy who sold you your phone isn't evil but it will make sure that there isn't anything installed that there shouldn't. After you are done using the RSD SBF root the phone, install safestrap, and then install your custom rom. I do not recommend using ANY custom roms for your safe system.

You do mean you wouldn't recommend flashing any custom roms to your "UNSAFE" system correct lol cause the safe system is the one you WANT to flash on...
P.s.
if you don't see install from zip im betting it is rick#2's custom safestrap....
When in recovery on UNSAFE scroll down to advanced...under advanced you will see your install options..
but unless your comfortable with sbfin I wouldn't recommend flashing to your unsafe system...instead switch to safe system(you will see your install options under patch/update
and flash away..again this is only an assumption that you might be using rick#2 custom safestrap..if your not belay all this lol

[Q] SafeStrap not flashing roms correctly

So I've followed all the tutorials I could find. I've rooted, installed busybox (to make sure it really existed), installed safestrap (the official one from the blog) and can get into recovery just fine. I made sure I have the right phone version and I've never done any kind of bootstrap stuff on this phone before this.
However, when I switch to safe mode to try out some roms, it simply will not work. I've tried all three versions of Eclipse and one CM9 version, but once supposedly done flashing and told to reboot, it gets a blackscreen for a few seconds and restarts back to the dual-core pre-recovery screen. I've wiped, wiped, super wiped everything just like the various instructions tell me to, but nothing ever changes the blackscreen.
Switching it back to non-safe and rebooting works just fine, but I cannot get any custom safe-mode roms to boot up. Is there something else I should be doing that I missed?
I occasionally have issues with Safestrap when you choose to reboot, so I just power off and then power on - that always works. Initial boots do take some time, though more than a few minutes without animation is probably too much.
And, just to clarify, this is the Safestrap that I use: http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/downloads/safestrap/
But it's not that it takes time, it reboots the phone itself. It's not locking up like I've seen others say and requiring a battery pull. It just refuses to go on, instead more like a boot loop? But nothing appears to be going wrong and I can easily switch back to the base no-problem.
And yeah, that's the same one I'm using. Droid 3 v1.08 exactly from that site.
It's making me sad that I can't get this going
Edit: I went ahead and tried just powering it off, leaving it for a moment, and turning it back on. Still did the reboot thing
are you installing the rom and then wiping data?
if so try wiping data first then install rom then reboot..

Yeah, tried both ways. Wipe data/factory and cache numerous times, install, nothing. Install then wipe, nothing. Wipe, install, wipe, nothing.
Is there an easy way to know for sure if it is even installing anything at all, like navigating to it using a root explorer?
Are you sure that the zip files you are loading are complete downloads? Generally you would receive error messages when installing if so, but you can try unzipping on your computer to see if they have errors. I always download ROM zips on my computer and transfer over (usually using the Dropbox app, but only because I don't want to bother with attaching, choosing USB storage mode, copying the files, unmounting the drives, choosing charge only.) But, if you are downloading the zips with your phone, try doing so instead with your computer, check the files sizes, and then transfer them over to the phone.
(Also, most/all/many of the CM9 zips require flashing a Google apps zip after flashing the ROM. That shouldn't prevent the phone from starting if you skip this step, but it will prevent you from having the market. Just FYI.)
I'd also try Maverick ROM to see if it has the same problem.
I've been running the stock 906 based ROM from Q9Nap here (the one marked Safestrap system), debloated by Pete Souza's script: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554916

I did as you suggested and tried unzipping the files on my computer (which was where I original downloaded them). They all unzipped fine without any errors, unfortunately. The chances of 4 full files being that way were slim, but I sorta hoped...
I'll try Maverick and the Safestrap stock after I get done downloading them.
Thanks everyone for trying to help.
Edit: Alright, I tried Maverick and it showed a prettier flash log, symlinked, all that, still reset itself after passing the recovery splash. Same with the 906 stock based. This time I also tried installing from internal and external SD just to test that.
I'll ask again, is there a specific folder I can get to just for my peace of mind where I can see where it is supposed to have installed these? Or is it in a area where a normal root explorer can't get to?

wait a sec..
you unzipped them?
the zip files are not ment to be unzipped..
download the zip to your phone
go into safestrap and choose install zip then choose the zip
oh wait...duh you were just checking to see if they worked lol
use root explorer and navigate to system folder open the build.prop and see if there is a mention of the rom your trying to install..ie..version=mavrick or eclipse
I'm not finding any references to other roms anywhere in it. I did a search by eye, then a search for "version", "cm", and "mav" and didn't come up with anything relevant. Is that bad?
There are two other things that you can try, though I am not sure that they will help:
1. From non-safe, stock, run Safestrap and uninstall recovery. Restart to see that it does not intercept before the boot screen, then go back in and reinstall recovery from safestrap. Restart the phone to see if it is working. Then restart to Safestrap and try toggling safe mode and see if your flashes work.
2. One other thing to try (not sure if this will help, but...) is to (prior to flashing a ROM) go into the Mounts menu and format /system. Maybe the old system isn't being cleared out by the ROMs you are trying to flash? Then go install the zip, do a wipe data/factory reset and see if that works.
Just wondering if there is a benefit to Safestrap or Bootstrap and why?
I went with Safestrap... Is it just a style thing or is one better?
Not trying to be a jerk, but I have been scanning this post.
Any chance you have overlooked the step of "Toggle Safe System" from the recovery menu?
At the top of the menu it should say "Safe System is: Enabled"

Safestrap is supposed to allow you to install a rom onto a safe "partition" of sorts, though that's not really what's going on. Anyway, it doesn't touch your stock rom so if something fails (like my flashing attempts) you're not in trouble.

Nah, I switch it every time. I'm not quite messing up that bad
Anyway, I might have to resort to bootstrap to see if that works. If not, well, I guess I'll be stuck on stock. Nothing so far mentioned in the thread has worked for me. Kinda sucks, since I have an Infuse that loves being flashed with anything I want to put on it without problems, unlike a friend's Infuse. Maybe its phone karma.

[Q] [Help!!!] Atrix HD wont boot

I dont know what is causing it, i have done fastboot, wipe cache, dalvik cache and factory reset everything!!
I remember i loaded LiquidSmooth on it and it was working very good until i wanted to unlock the network so i had to put back the stock rom on.
I didnt kno about the RSD way so i jus made a back up from my other atrix hd running stock rom and restored it with CWM on my other Atrix HD that is giving the problem of boot loop now. Ever since i did that i wouldnt pass boot screen, no matter how much i flash rom, recovery and everything.
I feel like the is some corrupted files that needs to be cleared but it wont work with CWM wiping and formatting, need something better to wipe completely the files like superwipe or sumn.
Are you running the latest version of CWM? Maybe try a different recovery program such as the Touch version?
Yea... i tried everything i think is possible

I did try the touch recovery, phillz cwm recovery, twrp not working on it tho as it does not respoond to the touches
as i said tho, i think the problem is with corrupted files from when i restored a back that i got from another phone. i think i need something like superwipe or so to get rid of every file on the phone
If you have CWM on it, go to your "mounts and storage" and "mount /system", reboot and see if that works.

Working CWM Recovery for LOCKED 183.46.15 + Deodex and more

This is a bootstrapped CWM recovery originally made for the LG G3. I am not the developer of this app. I've no idea why it works with our locked RAZR HDS, but it does. I've flashed a few mods perfectly with this.
Install the recovery installer apk. http://goo.gl/Vkwx9Y
Once app is installed, open it and press install recovery and grant it superuser permissions. (Yes obviously you must be rooted)
Press reboot to recovery, and wait a few seconds. Obviously, choose english for the language and flash away.
*Please don't be foolish and try to flash custom ROMs with this. Your boot loader is still locked. This is only meant for flashing mods to the stock ROM, and the state of this is experimental as it is without flashing custom roms. Be careful with this recovery. Again, it wasn't made for our phones. I would advise you to only use the factory reset/wipe options if you're bold. I imagine the G3 and RAZR HDs mount points are different. Do not hold me accountable for what you mess up.
Want a deodexed stock 183.46.15? Flash this --> http://goo.gl/DZjvCk *updated working*
Advanced power menu/battery mod (Deodexed, be sure to flash deodexing zip above first.) --> http://goo.gl/n0hyTm
Beats Audio, Xloud --> http://goo.gl/wl5rP1
^ALL of the above mods are to be flashed WITHOUT wiping data. Just dirty flash them. Also, after flashing, if you are given a prompt about fixing root access, always select NO.
Enjoy!

This is a bootstrap recovery. That means it doesn't replace the stock recovery on the phone. If it's setup and working correctly just a normal reboot should give you a prompt you boot cwm. (I haven't actually tried this but my reply is based off my experience with safestrap twrp in the past.)

You're right... It's bootstrapped. You have to press reboot to recovery from the recovery installer app... I should've clarified that.
If I use this to flash the stock, deodexed 183.46.15, I'm assuming that I'll have to use Hydrogen Peroxide XT926 to root the firmware again?

I'm sure it's like other custom roms and it's pre-rooted

Idk dude, it just says "Deodexed 183.46.15 stock"??. I might try it but I dont know if I want to go through the process of rooting again because I've had to use RSDlite before to flash the stock firmware so that Hydrogen Peroxide would work.

I've seen dozens of Deodexed stock roms, for a dozens of different devices. I have never seen one the was not pre-rooted, and rarely are they referred to as rooted because it's assumed that if they are installed with a custom recovery that they are pre-rooted.
Ok i've downloaded the deodex_install.zip, and looked at the updater-script (install script).
It deletes all the .odex files from /system/apps and framework and installs deodexed .apks.
Code:
rm -rf /system/app/*.odex
rm -rf /system/framework/*.odex
rm -rf /system/priv-app/*.odex
exit 0
SuperSU does not have a .odex file, and does not affect su binary which is in /system/xbin
also user data should not be affected.
Thanks for the reply and for the info.
Cool deal. Hopefully this will lead to more development for the xt907.
I've read that this should work for the RAZR M. Recovery installer reports that recovery is installed however when I try to use it as described all that happens when I select "reboot recovery" is that the phone reboots normally.
I have checked in my SU app and the recovery installer app is getting SU permission. I have read the whole thread and only one other person has reported this behavior. Am I missing something?
My system details are as follows: System Version 183.46.15 RAZR M rooted with hydrogen peroxide. Titanium Backup and Exposed framework both working correctly.
I tried this on XT926.
CWM was installed (It reboots properly if I wait some time after phone was booted up, before pushing "reboot into Recovery".).
Wipe works.
I flashed deodex and some mods.
Phone works correctly
Thanks
Why Its only restart my xt907 183.46.15 when i click boot into recovery option from recovery installer application

I got an answer to this problem in another thread. You may need to factory reset your phone. It worked for me when I had the same problem.
A word of caution though. I made a Titanium backup to internal SD card for easy restore of settings and apps and it was erased by the factory reset along with the apk for this recovery.
Fortunately my full Ti-backup on external SD was OK so I just had to do a selective restore.

I think internal storage is only wiped if you use the settings>backup & reset>factory data reset option
if you wipe in android recovery internal storage should not be wiped
but if you used encryption, storage will be unreadable.
I used the wipe option from recovery. This is the first phone I've ever had that wasn't unlocked with a custom recovery so I have never used the settings factory reset.
This is only a temporary phone till I replace the dead screen on my unlocked RAZR M.
does backup work in this cwm?
It does not work. No matter if wiped as factory or not...
I just erased my phoine and it didn't work. no command once, phone not supported (tr) in other... is not working.
