Screen digitizer and housing - HTC Incredible S

My girlfriend dropped has dropped her phone a couple of times and I'm looking at replacing her screen digitiser and housing. I've previously replaced the housing on my old HTC Magic/G2, so I've had some experience.
I was wondering if anyone here has replaced the screen digitiser or housing.
What kind of quality was the housing? Where from ebay?
Digitiser - same functionality as the original, precise, responsive?
Appreciate any input

hello, i have the same problem. I want to replace the house of incredible s but i dont fine anywhere. no case for this phone!
i you find one, you can tell me where

screen replacement
i am in the middle of replacing my lcd and digitizer on my inc s..
all i can say it is a nightmare of a job and i repair alot of phones..
if anyone cracks or smashes their screen, here is a bit of advise , try and find someone who sells the whole screen with the front housing of the phone already built up or at least the screen, digitiser and touch keys already assembled with adhesive strips..

Just replaced cracked screen its not too difficult to get to the digitizer

screen replacement
i wouldn't have said its the easiest screen to replace , it takes a bit of patience as you need some double sided strong strips as the digitizer i ordered didn't come with any.
you need a heat gun or hair drier to get the digitizer off and when you put it back together you have to keep the dust out..
i did have to replace the lcd also which did make the job a bit more difficult for me, would have been a bit easier if i had just repalced the digitizer.
ok i went a bit overboard with the nightmare bit but didnt have any double sided tape suitable for the job..

Where to buy replacement battery cover?

I'm looking to buy a replacement battery cover for my Sony Xperia in black. Anybody know where to find one?
Thanks!
I second that, looking for a replacement cover as well..
Keep an eye out on this site http://cnn.cn/shop/sonyericsson-xperia-c-28_638.html, so far they just have a placeholder for the X1 but they are a great resource for OEM replacement parts. Hopefully they'll start stocking X1 parts soon.
yeah i would like to get one so i can drill a hole in it. seems like im always resetting this phone and i hate to keep taking the cover off. im afraid it might not stay on after so many removals.
This is the battery cover of my x1 !!
That hole is so pratical!

Hmmm... that drilling isn't exactly top-notch. How was it done?
i think it looks good. what are the dimension from either the top of the battery cover or bottom. what drill bit size also.
thanks.
put a small piece of paper soaked with ink in the reset button hole. Then close the battery cover. Open the battery cover and you can see the exact point to drill.
You must use a mini-drill, like dremel
Am looking for a replacement battery cover too. My week old X1 looks 100% brand new, but unfortunately, I made a small dent on the battery cover by accident. If this was an old phone I wouldn't care much. But, mine is barely a week old......
I email to sony support, I'm in HK
and they said the battery cover need HK$280
I still thinking buy or not, cause the metal battery cover is too easy with scratches
unless your phone freeze, u dont need to press that reset button, there are softwares that let you softsoft.
when phone freezes, holding the "panel" button usually get out of freeze.
I also would like to buy new battery cove (silver). Somebody found where can we buy new cover??
Thanks
if u do have scratches, i suggest u remove the cover, grab a tin of brasso and nice muslin cloth. Polish the cover you would be amazed at the stuff a polish from brasso can do. Again recommended only on the cover.
i have done it on my x1 and my ipod. Both look as good as new.
I am looking for a cover too, so i can buy one and get vodafone to reimburse me, are they made of a cheapo material, mine got really scraped in my pocket within a few hours, but nothing else was in my pocket and its a cotton/polyester pocket...
Ric
When i was doing a mod on the cover (drilling a hole for the reset), i found that it was hard to drill thru. i think its made of stainless steel. anyways, i got the silver one, you might be talking about the black x1 getting easily scratched on the battery cover because its painted. i dont know if thats a true statement, just an assumption.
The black ones are anodised and not painted.

Does it mean it is possible to poish it in a way if there is a scratch there?
I have some small annoying scratches that i hope to be able to remove, maybe wait for replacement battery cover to arrive at cnn.cn

my focus s lost a game of rock, paper, scissors, gorilla glass

as it turns out, rock beats gorilla glass....
dropped it in my drive way last night getting into the car, fell about 4 feet and bounced twice. best part, this was a warranty replacement i got about 3 weeks ago, no insurance! woohoo!
small pieces are shifted a little, and i cut my ear on them already. phone still works great though, lol.

Gorilla Glass ditto!
yep! Ditto for my wife. 2.5 feet from a bedside table. Amazingly, it works and views perfectly! She's not ready to replace it with the next victim digitizer, yet, because she wants to get another drop out of her system, first. I did write Corning and they deferred to the manufacturer. I haven't been able to locate a replacement digitizer. There was one on eBay, but it said that it was a combo screen and digitizer and didn't come separately. Not believing that. Sorry.

that's also $180 on ebay. i read somewhere that samsung will replace it for $160, that would be a good deal.
I broke my screen like the photo and I haven't warranty. Do you know where can I repair the phone?
Anyone found a replacement screen yet?

Curious about this as well. I have a focus S that has a cracked screen too and can't find a replacment anywhere. Why is it that this phone has no screen replacement parts? I called Samsung and they want $150 plus tax for the repair. NO THANKS! you can buy this phone at a great deal for about $200 or so manufacturer refurbished. makes no sense to pay $150 for a screen repair.
DAMN.
I just bought an "S" off craiglist. I got to take it out of the packaging to test it... AND BANG.. slips right out of my hand.. Luckily it landed on the backside..
Only 2 scuff marks.
Great phone, but have to be super careful..
Coming from a palm centro, im not used to that..lol

[Q] Will backs be sold?

I've noticed that through all these stories of cracked backs, that no one has bothered to talk about the back of the phone. It seems to be removable with the screws on the back and comes off as a whole piece like so:

What does this mean for someone selling backs? I feel like if that was an option, they would be loaded in cash, I mean there can't be that many crucial components on the back-plate (I have only heard that the NFC antenna resides on the back), so you could make em' cheap and sell them for like $40 to replace the once whole and now shattered remains of the sad glass back known as everyone on the XDA's phone backside.
According to iFixit:
Step 8
The rear cover of most phones is a ho-hum piece of plastic that serves no real purpose other than covering the battery. That is not the case here.
A number of pressure contacts power the NFC antenna and connect the induction coil needed for wireless charging to the motherboard.
With "wireless charging" listed as an official tech spec for the Nexus 4, we were anxious to try it out on our device. Alas, the phone doesn't ship with a wireless charger. Boo.
Two years ago, Google brought NFC to the smartphone realm with the Nexus S. It's been a long road, but the technology seems to finally be catching on.

I am sure there will be a market for it to some extent.
Else we will have issues where you see kid nappings where ppl are slipped a ruffie in vegas and they wake up in a tub with the back of thier phone missing.
I certainly hope someone eventually starts selling replacement backs but I disagree slightly about the purported simplicity of offering up a replacement.
Sure, the back is not irreversibly integrated into the rest of the phone, but there is a whole lot more built into the back assembly than say perhaps the other classic example of a mass production phone that had the misfortune of featuring a glass back, the iPhone 4/4S. Say what you will about apple on a myriad of other topics, but at least on the 4/4S design the rear glass was not integrated into any other part of the phone, you could replace it with 2 screws and for 10 dollars.
The problem with the N4 is that I shouldn't need to replace the entire back assembly of the phone, just the finicky glass plate. However, that is bonded to the back of the phone with adhesive and it remains to be seen if there will be any viable way to replace it... but I'm assuming not.

This isnt really on topic at all, but it reminded me of this: xkcd : Ice
That said, wonder if there will be third party backs made of plastic?
There are antennas in there (at least the NFC ones) and it will be more expensive then a plain plastic one with nothing, but at least i'd satisify those among us that wish it didnt have a glass back.

If your nanosim slot flap is not totally aligned...

You can solve removing with a cutter some plastic from the "dent" of nanosim tray (the one you use for extract).
This little piece of plastic sometime rise a little the port cover.
Obviously you need to remove very little piece of plastic, not the entire dent.

It may also help to tuck the lip from the info sheet away under the pull part from the SIM tray, like this:

:good:
Basically, if your flap is rised from the side of nanosim you need to cut some plastic from extraction dent, if is rised from other side you can tuck the lip

For me, the SIM flap is raised about 1/3 or 1/4 millimetre, but only at the side closest to the magnetic port. But it doesn't seem to be a problem as I've tested it in water.

I'm not sure about removing plastic from it, can you still take out the tray easily? It looks like, for it to have any effect at all, I would at least need to remove the entire part for the nail? Because it looks like a 90° bend from the rest of the tray.
---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:00 PM ----------
I'm also pretty sure this would void the warranty, no?
I can remove "almost" easily with the fingernail , better with a small plier .. Could be necessary to remove the most of 90°part (can vary by phone) , but this is a removable part: you can buy the one for previous Z Series phones on EBay for 1-3 euro. On the next future will be available for sure also the one for Z3 Compact

Nexus 6 midfram

I have a question what is this silver thing called that is on the back that covers some of the device? I ordered a digitizer + midfram assembly and I didnt get the silver thing. I'm trying to contact the seller now. Do I got to have the silver guard to use the phone?

[strikeout] I think that the midframe hides the silver shield. And that your picture was taken without a midframe. [/strikeout]
The above is wrong, sorry. When the midframe is included, the shield should also be there.
In a few days, I'll perform the same operation on my phone, then I'll know more.

Yes you do have to have the silver guard. That is the RF shield, which eliminates interference during a call from the device components. If you're replacing the midframe and digitizer you should be able to reuse the shield from the existing midframe.
I thought I would need that. Thank you. First I ordered a digitizer midfram assembly and it had everything I needed but the touch didn't work. 2nd time i bought a lcd digitizer midfram + assembly and the guard didn't come with it. I have ordered several of these digitizers and have never had an issue up untill now. I would have used my old metal guard but I threw it away because I always have ordered the whole assembly. From now one I'll keep my old stuff. It's very aggravating that this now makes the 3rd time trying to get what I need. The picture that I posted on here is the one I ordered. Now it'll be my luck that it will take forever before the seller responds to my message.

This is what I received from the ebay seller. And needless to say I'm pissed.
Be very careful when buying from ebay especially if it involves a part/s for the Nexus 6. The seller lied to me and said that I ordered somthing in which I did not, so now I have almost a hundred bucks in a lcd digitizer. Does anyone know where I can buy the silver guard thing?
If I end up with a spare, I can send it to you. I'll know in a few days.
I'll pay u for it.
I appreciate that. My son's been waiting for almost a month because everytime I order I end up not getting all the parts. The seller offered to give me a partial refund of 10% and to take it to a repair shop. I told the seller that I have replaced several lcd's on the nexus 6 and that I wasn't going to pay another 50 bucks or more to fix somthing that you (seller) screwed up in the first place.
