Nexus 6 midfram - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question what is this silver thing called that is on the back that covers some of the device? I ordered a digitizer + midfram assembly and I didnt get the silver thing. I'm trying to contact the seller now. Do I got to have the silver guard to use the phone?

[strikeout] I think that the midframe hides the silver shield. And that your picture was taken without a midframe. [/strikeout]
The above is wrong, sorry. When the midframe is included, the shield should also be there.
In a few days, I'll perform the same operation on my phone, then I'll know more.

Yes you do have to have the silver guard. That is the RF shield, which eliminates interference during a call from the device components. If you're replacing the midframe and digitizer you should be able to reuse the shield from the existing midframe.

I thought I would need that. Thank you. First I ordered a digitizer midfram assembly and it had everything I needed but the touch didn't work. 2nd time i bought a lcd digitizer midfram + assembly and the guard didn't come with it. I have ordered several of these digitizers and have never had an issue up untill now. I would have used my old metal guard but I threw it away because I always have ordered the whole assembly. From now one I'll keep my old stuff. It's very aggravating that this now makes the 3rd time trying to get what I need. The picture that I posted on here is the one I ordered. Now it'll be my luck that it will take forever before the seller responds to my message.

This is what I received from the ebay seller. And needless to say I'm pissed.

Be very careful when buying from ebay especially if it involves a part/s for the Nexus 6. The seller lied to me and said that I ordered somthing in which I did not, so now I have almost a hundred bucks in a lcd digitizer. Does anyone know where I can buy the silver guard thing?

If I end up with a spare, I can send it to you. I'll know in a few days.

I'll pay u for it.

I appreciate that. My son's been waiting for almost a month because everytime I order I end up not getting all the parts. The seller offered to give me a partial refund of 10% and to take it to a repair shop. I told the seller that I have replaced several lcd's on the nexus 6 and that I wasn't going to pay another 50 bucks or more to fix somthing that you (seller) screwed up in the first place.

Nexus S Limited Edition Battery Cover

I found this on ebay a few days ago but havent seen anyone post it up yet. They're going for about 40 bucks on ebay with a couple sellers. One thing i've noticed though is that there is no NFC chip on the battery cover. Still looks nice though!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Back-Case-Cover-Samsung-Nexus-S-Android-/250797404974?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3a64b0b32e
Odd that the nfc is crippled. Are these from Samsung or some knockoff manufacturer?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
if it comes from china/HK, it's most likely fake
its a knock off probably, and most likely just for a replacement. No NFC isnt a deal breaker for me, but then again i dont need one anyways, just posting it in case anyone else wanted one
Btw, does anyone know is the battery cover identical in I9020 and I9023?
i have two of these, just picked them up, alot cheaper than what they have on ebay, i cannot say its a copy or what, the shop claims it's a limited edition, but it fits on the nexus s just the same as the original item, and the cover looks identical with all serial numbers and markings and the quality and material is the same, it just has a metalic glossy coating with cute android robots.

JUST ODER It...KNOW MY PHONE LIMITED EDITION
... SERIAL NUMBER ALMOST SAME JUST LAST 2 NUMBERS ANOTHER.
PLUS SAME MATERIAL AND I THINK EVEN BETTER QUALITY
The Nexus S I9020 SUPER-AMOLED is smaller than the Nexus S I9023 (S-LCD) I think.. (~2mm)
So, the Battery Back Case Cover is for the I9020(a) or I9023
Does anyone know where to buy battery cover for I9023?
the case does not fit, there was a time that is was gonna swap my original cover with one of my friends (samsung promotor), since his was only a working model for ppl to play around in shops it was new, unlike mine all scratched on the battery lid, as my phone was purchased second hand.

direct from samsung, or see if ebay has them, i mean the nor version, the android version has not been made for the i9023.
i've sold my last one, i will try to get more if it's available on the 8th may.
Do they have the NFC stuff in them? If so, count me in!
hahahah....
i got this battery cover with my nexus s straight out of the box ;p
so i do have the REAL limitet edition of the nexus S xP
and i do have the NFC in the batt cover.
though it scratches pretty fast.i actually dont recommend it at all
how's the price for each like?
White Nexus S is for sale, so the white replacement cover should come soon.
When it does we should buy a few so we can get it cheaper!
anyone knows where to get those limited edition back covers from? for the nexus s 9020
Still looking for one of these =/

my focus s lost a game of rock, paper, scissors, gorilla glass

as it turns out, rock beats gorilla glass....
dropped it in my drive way last night getting into the car, fell about 4 feet and bounced twice. best part, this was a warranty replacement i got about 3 weeks ago, no insurance! woohoo!
small pieces are shifted a little, and i cut my ear on them already. phone still works great though, lol.

Gorilla Glass ditto!
yep! Ditto for my wife. 2.5 feet from a bedside table. Amazingly, it works and views perfectly! She's not ready to replace it with the next victim digitizer, yet, because she wants to get another drop out of her system, first. I did write Corning and they deferred to the manufacturer. I haven't been able to locate a replacement digitizer. There was one on eBay, but it said that it was a combo screen and digitizer and didn't come separately. Not believing that. Sorry.

that's also $180 on ebay. i read somewhere that samsung will replace it for $160, that would be a good deal.
I broke my screen like the photo and I haven't warranty. Do you know where can I repair the phone?
Anyone found a replacement screen yet?

Curious about this as well. I have a focus S that has a cracked screen too and can't find a replacment anywhere. Why is it that this phone has no screen replacement parts? I called Samsung and they want $150 plus tax for the repair. NO THANKS! you can buy this phone at a great deal for about $200 or so manufacturer refurbished. makes no sense to pay $150 for a screen repair.
DAMN.
I just bought an "S" off craiglist. I got to take it out of the packaging to test it... AND BANG.. slips right out of my hand.. Luckily it landed on the backside..
Only 2 scuff marks.
Great phone, but have to be super careful..
Coming from a palm centro, im not used to that..lol

[Q] Will backs be sold?

I've noticed that through all these stories of cracked backs, that no one has bothered to talk about the back of the phone. It seems to be removable with the screws on the back and comes off as a whole piece like so:

What does this mean for someone selling backs? I feel like if that was an option, they would be loaded in cash, I mean there can't be that many crucial components on the back-plate (I have only heard that the NFC antenna resides on the back), so you could make em' cheap and sell them for like $40 to replace the once whole and now shattered remains of the sad glass back known as everyone on the XDA's phone backside.
According to iFixit:
Step 8
The rear cover of most phones is a ho-hum piece of plastic that serves no real purpose other than covering the battery. That is not the case here.
A number of pressure contacts power the NFC antenna and connect the induction coil needed for wireless charging to the motherboard.
With "wireless charging" listed as an official tech spec for the Nexus 4, we were anxious to try it out on our device. Alas, the phone doesn't ship with a wireless charger. Boo.
Two years ago, Google brought NFC to the smartphone realm with the Nexus S. It's been a long road, but the technology seems to finally be catching on.

I am sure there will be a market for it to some extent.
Else we will have issues where you see kid nappings where ppl are slipped a ruffie in vegas and they wake up in a tub with the back of thier phone missing.
I certainly hope someone eventually starts selling replacement backs but I disagree slightly about the purported simplicity of offering up a replacement.
Sure, the back is not irreversibly integrated into the rest of the phone, but there is a whole lot more built into the back assembly than say perhaps the other classic example of a mass production phone that had the misfortune of featuring a glass back, the iPhone 4/4S. Say what you will about apple on a myriad of other topics, but at least on the 4/4S design the rear glass was not integrated into any other part of the phone, you could replace it with 2 screws and for 10 dollars.
The problem with the N4 is that I shouldn't need to replace the entire back assembly of the phone, just the finicky glass plate. However, that is bonded to the back of the phone with adhesive and it remains to be seen if there will be any viable way to replace it... but I'm assuming not.

This isnt really on topic at all, but it reminded me of this: xkcd : Ice
That said, wonder if there will be third party backs made of plastic?
There are antennas in there (at least the NFC ones) and it will be more expensive then a plain plastic one with nothing, but at least i'd satisify those among us that wish it didnt have a glass back.

Whitestone dome alternate replacement glass

Sorry to make another Whitestone dome thread but I remember reading on XDA months ago about people trying other glass screen protectors with the adhesive/UV light and jig from a Whitestone dome kit.
Essentially I broke my Whitestone dome and I don't really feel like paying them another 35USD just for the glass. Does anybody have any experience trying this?
Thanks.

Hi!
I'm glad you responded. I'm currently debating this exact issue with your customer service team.
They are saying my warranty is only through the distributer (MobileZapp) and it is impossible to register the product on whitestone's website. Meanwhile, other distributers (Mobilefun UK) can be registered on the website and receive a warranty replacement.
Would you like to see my conversation with your customer service representative?

I think you're going to have a tough time of it. You can see my interaction with whitestone's customer service attached;
Now customer service and the XDA whitestone rep are eerily silent.

For me it is the second time that after a small fall breaks in a corner, I'm looking for a valid alternative, but I do not know which one.
this little one works well but it's very delicate, it got me tired,
I can not ask for the replacement every time I fall.

Unfortunately after my last email exchange with Whitestone they have decided to ignore me. Great customer service guys. Pretend you don't have a lifetime warranty and then ignore me when I prove it to you.
I'll give the aliexpress one a go.

Update I had to take it to a shop to get then to remove the glass and it damaged my screen .white stone dome sucks badly
I. Using the phone naked now as the dome glass has scratched the **** out of m6 note 8 screen anyway
I feel for you, but the fact that you tried 3 installs when the kit only includes 2 batches of adhesive makes me think that things didn't go properly at all. Where did you get the extra adhesive?
Op I absolutely still you when I first tried Domeglass. I ordered mine from Amazon and failed to 2 installations. I then did contact their customer support through Amazon. They acknowledged my bad luck and offered me a 99% off voucher. I also heard that there is lifetime guarantee for the glass for one exchange (not sure). I would recommend you to do the same. This is a company that I keep coming back for its excellent product quality and customer service.
It is tough for a beginner to install the protector. The trick is not dropping the glass on the glue but to set it and let the glue run down to the glass. There is a tab part that goes into the frame to keep the glass held up in an inclined position. Never uv the glass or adjusting it after it's in contact with the glue. It is possible to wash the glue and glass and reinstall the protector.
I understand the pain needing to read everything on the guide and follow the video literally step by step. It is however worth it. Smooth glass, great protection, durable.

I have recently ordered a new set from amazon. The new set contains 3 glues and 2 glasses. It is also possible to order the uv glue separately (not sure if whitestone sells it separately but I saw it on amazon).
Can anybody check to see whether they have the option to order a warranty replacement on the Whitestone website. I'm having problems because there's no checkbox to select the item or button to press on the warranty request page. They have suggested re-registering my product, but that hasn't made any difference.

For future reference, if anybody has the same issue, the website accepted by warranty request if I selected a purchase date in 2018 (rather than 2017 when I actually purchased the item).
