Flash Fever - How brave are you? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I just got my Bionic a couple days ago, rooted it, installed Liberty (that was my favorite on the DX so I had to!), then learned of an awesome app/recovery called Safe Strap. IMO opinion, it's one of the top 5 best things to happen to a Moto phone.
So I've flashed ICS (Bionic & Droid 3), CM7 (Droid 3), and others. But what else can we flash? It's booting from the sd card and it's a Moto....how dangerous could it be? Sbf fixes most everything. So who's thrown caution aside and flashed some stupid $h1t?? Obviously, data wont work and most likely other stuff, so you might ask why? Because we can (potentially).
What's the craziest thing you've flashed and how did it turn out?

[Q] Rom Manager/CWM Recovery?

Is Rom Manager/CWM working on the Bionic? Does it need anything special like the Droid X?
It needs someone to develop cwm for the phone. Im sure rom manager will install, you just cant do anything with it
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
what about the bootstrap recovery from the X2?
Other than clearing data/cache/dalvik, there's not much you can use CWM or Rom Manager for right now...since I haven't seen any ROM's released for the Bionic yet.
Not so. If it was working, I could make a nandroid and then remove bloat etc and always return to stock.
How do you remove bloat on a rooted bionic?

well the safest way right now is to freeze them with tibackup...
that is what I have done to most of the vzw apps on my bionic.
I am currently working on it for the Bionic. I did a decent amount of work with hijack and the bootstrap for the droid 2 awhile back.

We're waiting for Koush to get his Droid 3. Once he gets it and ports CWM, he'll have a working version for the Bionic as well.

Safestrap/tweaked bootstrap

Is anyone still using the tweaked bootstrap or is everyone pretty much on safestrap now? Just wondering cuz im still on the tweaked bootstrap ;p too lazy to sbf and start all over ;p
Sent from my droid 3 using Tapatalk
I think most people use Safestrap because Hash is amazing.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
I use tweaked bootstrap for pretty much the same reasons. I don't want to lose my current backups.
Safestrap is your best bet. Flash without fear!

I kinda agree with slayer. Im still not afraid to flash cuz its called a nandroid! Haha ;p

You don't have to sbf... just uninstall your current bootstrap, and install safestrap.. activate safestrap and install your choice of roms... if you disable safestrap, it just puts you back to where you were before you enabled it.. most people recommend using a base stock rom for your starting point but you don't have too..

Ice Cream Sandwich!

How compatible are the DROID 3 and the Bionic? I just flashed the Ics 4.0.3 Rom built for the DROID 3 and it booted up perfectly. (No Boot loops) The camera that comes with it does not work (I would just get the .893 blur cam) but data does. I went back to Eclipse 2.1 and was still on 5.9.901 which is cool. But I want to know will this help out at all with a complete Ics Rom for the DROID BIONIC? I will attempt to flash other D3 ROMS just to see if everything goes all right.

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
When you say "data" works, are you saying that the 1x data is working or the 3g/4g data is working?
I suggest giving kejar or one of the other big developers a message and ask them what they think of this. It sounds as if this could be the fastest way for us to get ics but what do I know.

Doesn't work. Tried flasging it through bootstrapper. (Can't open, "bad" installation aborted )

Its pretty stable. Minor glitches. Once screen turned upside down. Not sure about 4g. Honestly have paid my bill(hard out here). You Do Not need Safestrap. Booted in CWM. Wiped data etc. If someone can test out 4g that would be awesome.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I see no reason why 4G could work if you flashed a D3 ROM because the D3 kernel source and framework would have zero provisions whatsoever for the 4G radio portion of the Bionic.
The rest of the hardware is surprisingly similar, however. Which is why D3 ROMs boot on the Bionic in the first place.
works same only 1x and stable could not get 3g or 4g

Until they figure out Data/Camera on either builds, they are pretty much the same.
It appears that Hashcode now has a BIONIC in hand is going to be helping debug the data issues that have plagued DHacker! Definately getting exciting for the BIONIC!
Check out the Dev forums for Hashcode updates!
Much appreciated and send Dhacker and Hashcode some lovin for this latest turn of events!

[Q] Non-Safestrap Custom ROMs - ICS/GB?

Since we have SBF files now, and I apologize if this is the wrong area to post, but will we be able to get an official Clockworkmod Recovery so that we can install clean ROMs without needing to use Safestrap and running dual systems?
I am willing to test any developments on my D4 given that we can now flash the SBF should it brick.
Also on a somewhat side tangent, has anyone figured out a way to mod the system to allow apps2sd naturally like on the D2/D3 instead of the "media area vs app storage area"?
Thanks in advance everyone.
I am waiting for a response for this thread as well.the safestrap method has created issues I really don't want to deal with on a regular basis. I thought maybe once the sbf were out there we would have clockwork method out there fairly quick. I appreciate all the hard work hash & others put in to problem solving etc..J am so looking forward to a clockwork option..

What issues? You could always use bootstrap, as others have said.
Personally, I really like using safestrap. Stock ROM when I need the phone to work, whatever rom I like otherwise (Though AOKP is getting pretty close to perfect now. Going to check up on CM9 soonish...)

The first thing to do is make sure your recovery is up to date. You can do that with the Rom manager app. It probably is the latest version but, it is better to check first. Then you have to decide if you want to go back to stock and take all the updates. The last update was a month or two ago and had a few security things. It's still GB. If you do then you'll be on a version ending in .621. After that you'll have to find compatible roms. The Liquid linked above is the most up to date version compatible with .621.
Good luck.

Thanks! I too just came across my DX which I had since launch, since it was with my car dock, Im gonna try to see what I can use it for as a companion to my pc...like maybe a desk mounted fan controller or temp monitor would be cool since I love to overclock (computers). Although its likely wishful thinking aside from some bluetooth tools from msi afterburner and such, its amazing the phone got up to ICS.
Might try it out later this week, last rom I had was one of the liberty 2.2.1 builds which were one of my fav at the time. Having gone from the DX, to rezound, and now note2. The DX was probably one of the best rom developed phones out there in its time aside from the nexus.

Framaroot, yes, is an apk. install the apk, and choose the gimli option. it will tell you that root was sucessful, and to reboot your phone. after you reboot, install bootstrap from either dx, d2, or d3 (d3 is most up to date, no known updated recovery available?)
You are correct about the 605/621 sbf info. once you flash 621, you can't go back. there are ROMs for both versions. I don't have experience with 605, but yes, you can upgrade to ICS from 621. From what I've read, no one has successfully gotten a JB ROM (CM10, 10.1, or 10.2) to work. There are at least 2 ppl who are going to attempt a KK build. wether or not it boots and is functional, only time will tell.
