no brave ICS devs for Galaxy Tabs? - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Edit, seems there are some brave dev's for the Galaxy 8.9 and its poisike, motley and myself!!
Mod's I'm not sure if I can rename my thread, and I know I definitely can't move it. Can you rename this thread to something like [ROM][ICS][alpha]p4wifi ICS build for Tab 8.9 - WIP, and move to the development forum?
Progress report.
poisike began toying with a xoom build shortly after google dropped the src for 4.0.3
separately (not long after I posted the original thread titled "no brave ICS devs for Galaxy Tabs?", I began setting up my macpro with ubuntu and started tinkering with cm9 and asop sources. last night I got a build compiled and flashed to my Gtab 8.9, and it booted!
Between the 2 of us we have booted ICS on the Galaxy Tab 8.9.
motley recompiled his kernel to get touch screen working.
poiske's version has no green screen, mine does, I have sound, his doesn't etc.
This is very very early on, but it seems we maybe able to combine the builds to get a working rom, seperately it was suggested I contact the CM9 guys about this for help or to work with them.
I will update this post as things progress.
Cheers!

I am hoping that once we get ICS source for a tegra device (like the Xoom which should be one of the first), development will take off... For now I am waiting on CM9 since I don't have the time to teach myself enough about Android development.

ICS source for the Xoom was just released today. Hopefully ICS development for all tegra tablets will start accelerating.

I have played with the Xoom ICS 4.0.3 rom all weekend. Please keep in mind that i'm not a developer, so don't expect a working port from me. I just wanted to see how far i can get...
And this is how far i get. If anyone has any ideas, then please share...

This rom runs on Xoom and as far as i know, the graphics hardware is the same on GT8.9 and Xoom.
I just read in Xoom forum that the portrait lag in launcher is gone (it's the same problem we have in landscape, because on GT8.9 the screen is rotated 90 degrees), that means we will finally get rid of the lag in launcher if we can port this rom...

And ICS boots on GT8.9... That's all it does of course.

good work what did you do to get past that earlier error?

2 more hours and i still can't get touchscreen working.
I have fixed all errors in logcat and it looks fine to me now. Or am i just too tired?

For touchscreen, did you try to copy everything from /system/usr from our Galaxy HC 3.2 ROM to the same location on the ICS ROM? (all files and folder, overwrite everything). This is how I got the touchscreen working on the ASUS port I am working on.

This > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396251 But it won't work without modifications. Don't try to flash it without modifications, you could mess up your tab.

I only copied the files that i saw (in logcat) it tried to load and failed. I will copy all files and try again.
Strangely it seems to configure the touchscreen successfully and i can see outbut in logcat when i touch the screen, so it seems to somewhat work.
I wonder what he tries to write to Unable to write /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/adj Is this related to touchscreen? Maybe it fails to write the calibration file?

Nice progress so far. I figured the 10.1 would get ported first and we would end up with a port from the 10.1. It doesn't even look like anyone in the 10.1 forum is working on ICS yet though.

Please don't expect a working rom from me, like i already wrote, i'm not a developer. In fact this is first time i try to port a rom.
About the GT10.1, they are just all waiting for CM9. There is really no point in investing time in porting if there is CM9 coming soon.
_motley: I tried what you suggested and this didn't help. But i found something interesting in another thread here in xda, someone suggested to edit the touchscreen driver and kernel. Unfortunately i don't know anything about kernel, so maybe _motley can find some time?

I don't expect a working ROM, I just think it is great that someone is working on it (looking at it if you prefer). CM9 will be great and I will probably use it (it is highly likely that CM9 will support the Tab 8.9 also), but anything you find playing with ICS AOSP will only help others in the future if someone wants to build other AOSP ROMs.
People just "waiting" for CM9 on the GT 10.1 may be in for a longer wait than they think. It is very likely that Cyanogen got it working quickly due to his access to Samsung binaries and source code (which he can't release to the public unless Samsung plays nice). CM9 for GT 10.1 probably won't be available until after ICS source from Samsung officially drops, and even then we may get stuck with buggy binaries that were built for Samsung ROMs, not AOSP ROMs.
edit: looks like there may be a cm9 build for GT 10.1 before Samsung drops source after all (Dec 14th post): https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts
So, is Samsung playing nice? or is there sufficient code already available to the public between ASOP and Samsung's current Open Source releases?

very good point, can we start a "no Touchwiz with our ICS" campaign? lol
or "Please don't Wiz on our ICS" rofl

Actually, what I have read indicates that the leaked ICS ROM for the GT 10.1 only has a few "additions" from TW. It seems to be mostly lockscreen, launcher, and widgets right now. That may change as Samsung continues development...

This is a request to sysfs to adjust runtime parameters in the kernel for lowmemorykiller. This is coming the init files in the ramdisk and doesn't have anything to do with the touch screen.

LOL...I always thought a good name for a vanilla ROM would be "Don't touch my wiz"

Where is that leaked rom?

[Q] Force Close while enabling Wi-Fi, searched, have logcat

I found this thread while searching, which is very similar to my issue, but his resolution seems strange, imo.
If you go into Wifi Settings, check to enable Wifi, it looks like it enables, shows scanning, then FC, and it goes back to wireless Settings and Wifi turns back off. When i bought it, it had Amon's recovery, v1.7 iirc, and was running stock FRF91. Whenever tmo pushed FRG83 OTA, it would reboot, but into Amon's recovery, fail to update, and boot back into FRF91. I used universal androot to root and all seemed well, just wifi wouldn't work. I assumed it was a borked restore on previous owner's part, something to do with the kernel and/or drivers.
I finally decided to do a full unroot (stock rom, stock recovery, etc), so I downloaded FRF91 PASSIMG.zip. It wouldn't flash it from the bootloader (wouldn't detect it, and scrolls to fast for me to see), so I extracted each and fastboot flashed all (boot, recovery, system, userdata). Booted up, wifi worked, then OTA upgrade to 2.2.1 (FRG83D?). Since universal androot doesn't work on that, and I didn't feel like searching unrevoked, I just loaded Amon's 2.0 recovery back and loaded a different ROM. Fail on my part here is I didn't test wifi while on 2.2.1 before rerooting & installing Amon's recovery. I updated the radio to 5.08 from 4.06.00.12_7.
I tried LeoFroyo and the app drawer was sluggish, so I switched to This ROM and yesterday Wifi worked fine. Did a full wipe, flashed that ROM, then the black bar add on. I was at one of my work locations with 5+ APs and it detected all of them. When I got home, did a NAND backup, flashed the wifi calling add on, and no more wifi. Restored the NAND backup, still no wifi. I now updated the radio to 5.12.00.08, but still no wifi. I'm at a different work location, but same physical infrastructure (APs, SSIDs, security, etc), no wifi. If I enable wifi either by the check box in wireless settings or the power control widget, it just turns back off. I get the FC if I go into WiFi Setting, then enable it there.
I can enable wifi tethering, it broadcasts fine and I can connect to it. I changed the SSID as well as the PSK, the changes worked. Rebooted the phone, still no wifi. Bluetooth also works fine, as does the 3.5mm jack. GPS works, but seems lacking. In my house, it'll never lock. On my back porch (no patio cover) it'll pick up 2 sats in yellow (gps status). Driving, it'll pick up 4 or 5 locked sats with a small green bar. My mt3g locks in my bedroom with 7+ sats. So far, only the wifi is not working, and the GPS is simply slow/weak. I bought the phone on CL Saturday, so I'm starting to wonder if this is why it was for sale.
Here's the logcat from when I try to enable wifi:

I know it's kind of long, but just trying to provide as much info as possible. I have the traces.txt file, too large to attach, but I dunno what any of it is.
Got it fixed!
Okay, so got it figured out.
After a fresh install, wifi works fine. Then, I'd run Titanium Backup and restore a bunch of stuff, including the Titanium part for the wifi APs and such. A lot of the settings wouldn't take precedence until AFTER a reboot. It's at this point WIFI would fail.
I took a nand backup, full wipe, then re-setup the phone and all good. Flashed the wifi calling add-on and still have wifi.
Also, since google restored the settings, it had the AP's saved anyway, so no need to restore that through Titanium. I rebooted a few times, turned wifi on & off, installed Mobile Defense, which required a reboot, too. In testing, I did find that speeds on the N1's 3G are decent. The upload is almost double that of my RoadRunner.
I still have carpy GPS lock/reception, though.
Hope this helps anyone else who has the problem I had.

[Q] Logcat issues

I am running aLogcat and I'm trying to find out what's up with the constant entries that is bloating it. I'm constantly getting the message:
D( 5238) GC_EXTERNAL_ALLOC freed 37K, 58% free 2908K/6727K, external 1908K/1970K, paused 27ms (dalvikum)
Is this constant updating normal? It's difficult to read anything else that the logcat is picking up because this is 99% of it.

What is your Dalvik Heap Size?
If you're referring to VM heap size under CyanogenMod settings, it's set to 32m.

[Q] My display refuses to go off.

Hello,
I am running the latest Darky's ROM (9.2 xtreme) with speedmod kernel.
The problem I am having is that my screen will not turn off. My screen does turn of after the 30 seconds, but after about half a second it turns on again, this also happens when I press the power button to turn the screen of, it would just go on again.
I have tryed wiping the device, other kernel, even did a HARD reset trough the secret code. I have searched for hours on the internet and all I found where some topics with no responess..
What can I do next? Should I go back to stock, unroot it and bring it to a service centere, or is this just some setting that I somehow changed. It just happened, the device ran good on 9.1 for about a month, and nothing happened to it!
Perhaps some problem with sleepmode.. When I go into test mode trough the secrect code and press the sleepmode, the screen just turns on again.
Thank you in advance~
adb logcat and check for events after you turn the screen off
Code:
Thanks for the advice, this is what I found

seems tv out is causing it:

disable tv out in settings?
The TV-out option was already disabled. Enabeling and/or disabling again does not have any effect.
anything connected to the 3,5 jack? if not it's probably water, salz or some other conductor in there making the connection
Ok, ill look into gurantee... Thanks for your help!

I've got GO Launcher as the launcher here, which apparently did the ANR, but exactly the same thing happens with the stock twlauncher. I don't think the launcher is at fault here, but I don't really know. This is extremely frustrating when developing apps, obviously. Does anyone else get this behaviour? I'm on XXLPY, no root, never rooted, only stock roms. Any help?

About Us:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first created based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean because of curiosity. In the early days it was just a one man show on one device (EVO 3D). Since then many others have joined the project and it has grown a whole lot. We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours and many of our contributors have gone to help other projects and that is ultimately why we do what we do.
Once Jelly Bean was over, we decided in Kitkat to move to a new base which was OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting because it challenged us to see what we could with something different.
With Lollipop, we have moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. That said it has been an awesome learning experience and is still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward.
Few more things we will say is that we don't accept nor ask for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc.....
We will never ask for a dime. All we do ask is that you search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!

Getting Dirty! Just installed, used TB to restore my apps and now I'm configuring dirty tweaks.
Until now everything is OK, not só smooth as I expected, but will test it a lot more to give a real opnion.
Nice job, lets see how it runs...

No worries, I'm trying to learn by myself how to port ROMs, tried with a Pacman but when I tought everything was OK I noticed that it did nota fins the external SD card... Anyways...
I used DU with my Samsung and it was great... Yours compilation, based on todays use only, I found that:
battery is great
Having some lags now and then
Lock screen freezes for 2 secs when turning it on
The APP player pro froze and I had to reboot so it could work again
Thats it, besides that its a great ROM, keep working on it! Thanks!

Any luck with getting it out somewhere. I'd like to try it, but there's nowhere to get it at the moment.

I was going to test this ROM, however dev-host refuses to let me download it. I'll try again later on my pc.

ROM: Currently flashing different ROMs to feed my flashing addiction.

Is anyone facing camera issues here? The ROM didn't have a camera on it and camera apps do not work too! Same with the flashlight.
