[Q] Unrooting T-Mobile Galaxy Tab SGH T849 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I purchased a T-mobile galaxy tab in US. I want to root it now. But before rooting, is there a way to take a back up stock rom so that I can reflash it if required?
Also, let me know the steps for unrooting and reflashing stock rom for claiming warranty.

Strange...... no one has replied yet.

Thanks for your response. I went through the entire thread. It no where mentions about unrooting.
I want to know how to unroot in case I need to claim warranty.

Do custom roms invalidate the warranty?

Hi all,
after all the fuss about the nexus one warranty being broken by unlocking the device, does anyone know if Samsung's warranty is affected by installing a custom rom?
I did see a mention of it in one of the threads here, but the gist was basically if you flash an official firmware back on the phone, they won't know.
Does anyone know if this is true?
I don't want to go do something stupid to my new phone, and realise later I can't get it fixed.
Loving the screen on this device, and in person, it doesn't look as much like an iphone as I'd feared.
Both are true. If you flash a Rom you void your warranty but if you flash a stock ROM back they won't know the difference
Sent from my Behold II using XDA App
hope this is true, and its one of the reason i gave up on NexusOne.
How can we make a backup of the original ROM of our Galaxy S? is Nandroid working for that phone?
Thanks!

The only easy way to do a backup of your rom just to use titanium backup. You might be able to make a dump of your current state but that would involve adb and working on getting that dump into an odin file structure. There is no nandroid like service yet.
Or change the build.prop to fake the stock fw...

Hi guys, i have some questions and hope you could help me.
I bought a galaxy mini a while ago, and of course i was wondering if i could change the rom.Mine is in the picture , hope it helps. It updated a few days ago with samsung keys to 2.3.4. The problem is that it's locked in orange. It has a lot of crap that i dont want or use. The thing is, can i flash it if it's locked? And can you give me a few pointers on how to do that?
Thanks

You can sim unlock your device and then flash the rom --You can pay few buck and get it unlocked online or maybe there are some around your locality--... This way the rom will surely work...
Note: I haven't trying doing either and what you do is at your own risk!!
So this wont work until i sim-unlock it?

[Q] How to check if Galaxy S Plus was rooted

Hi all! I'm thinkin' about buyin' a Samsung Galaxy S Plus from someone who sell's it and I want to check the phone before buying to know if it was rooted until then. How to I do this?
If it has an app called superuser or supersu its rooted
Sent via that ninja standing right behind you
let me be more explicit : as samsung galaxy ace, which can be rooted and then unrooted, I want to know if on galalaxy s plus can be possible this action. If the seller rooted the phone and with a few days before selling to me he unrooted the phone, that's what I need to know...
I don't think so you can check if he has unrooted his phone or not

need some assistance on mi i537 s4 active.

Hi to everyone and thanks for taking your time to read and help me out. Well I have the s4 active i537 and my firmware is ML3 4.2.2 and I keep seeing ppl go to 4.4.2 stock but none say there for my type of firmware or how to go about updating it. Some say it works just fine others say it dont let them do certaine things... I have mobile odin on my phone and im obviously rooted so any help on this topic will be well appreciated. Thanks in advance...
based on previous threads in the Q and A subforum, one can install *stock* 4.3 image *ML2* using Odin, update via wiFi to 4.4 and root using https://towelroot.com/

Do you have an AT&T i537, or was it purchased from a different carrier?

just to add another possibility but it may also have been a non-carrier purchase from phone store, unlocked device from any number of online vendors ... as in my two i537 devices from such a source, not purchased from any carrier, in case it matters.
The phone is from att but is being used on another carrier.

What version of firmware do you have, because ML3 is not an AT&T firmware?

All you need to do is flash the ML2 Odin package and then flash the NE3 OTA after that and you'll be on 4.4.2. It should only take about an hour.

Thanks a bunch I finally got my i537 on 4.4.2 also got it rooted. Possible safestrap? And any way for me to run a costume rom? I read somewhere that there's a way to load a costume kernel after it has read the stock one 1st so I'm guessing it would alow to use any costume rim but I don't know if it works the way I think it does.

I tried the PingPong root method used on the S6 with no luck. I did add the FPtag that the OP asks for in requesting new devices, so who knows, maybe they will look into S 5 support

Thanks for the info, i didn't tried that method, thanks for letting us know.
Let's hope they work on the S5.
I am skeptical. This seems like it's "too good to be true" but I am wondering if anyone has tried this:
http://www.oneclickroot.com/device/att-samsung-galaxy-s5-lollipop/
I already had to take my phone to the AT&T Repair store after trying other things. I don't want them to think I am up to something.
Does not work just tried

Unless we can roll back BL then it won't work, unfortunately.
My att note 3 was on 5.0 with locked boot loader and went all the way back to 4.4.2 to root

It also has to do with qfuse counts.
muniz_ri posted a very informative message in one of the other related threads, but I've lost track of it, but one of the counters that is hardware based once flipped will prevent earlier BL from functioning with the hardware.
Thus, for the G900A once you've run the OC4 bootloader you can't go back to the earlier editions.
