After finding the volume of my Nexus S insufficient I did a bit of digging and stumbled across an app called volume+. After running across several methods to increase the volume that didn't work I was quite skeptical of this one. Much to surprise it works and works well. I now have a much louder speaker on my NS!
I take no credit for this app, as it is something I just happened across.

I need something that can increase the headset volume on my phone.
It's turned all the way up and if I'm somewhere with just a little noise I can barely hear the person. My Nexus One was clear and loud. My Nexus S is clear, but very low.

No I set my to +7 and it sounds great loud enough to hear in a noisy room and its really clear not distorted at all.

If you set it too loud constantly this WILL damage the speaker.
Anyhow though, great app, confused as to why you posted an old 1.4apk, 1.6.2 is out xD
Ok my ringtones are louder when I listen to them in settings but when I receive a call they dont sound ne louder then they were before volume app was added

I think voodoo might increase headset volume.

I mean for both music Via External Speaker and Via Headphones.
Some roms i think have a Very low Speaker Output, we got one of the few smartphones with real stereo speakers and they have incredible well.... Low Volume
I think CM10.1 has very good sound, you have DSP Manager, which is a equalizer app for CM. You can either choose presets or do it yourself. You also have a bass and treble booster.
If you have decent headphones or earphones, you can really experience it.

I really doubt that with have stereo speakers in the 2x, the sound levels are still mid to low though.

Stereo means left and tight channel my friend thats not 3 way os realy clear. But i had a motorola defy and the sound of the phone speaker were outstanding and in a realy good volume

Temasek's CM7+vadonka's eTana kernel sounds best.
As supercurio said before,cm10/4.04official has changed the audio sampling rate to 48kHz which leads to poor SRC and poor audio quality which is important to me as daily players.I remember that Vadonka once could change his sample rate of his CM7 kernel,but the dev seem haven't found the way to change the sampling rate on CM10/4.04.Glad that someone raised the question as the sound quality is the only thing stopping me from using ics.
It would be great if someone is going to fix it.
Also,supercurio has seemingly lost his interest in continuing voodoo for 2x either for new Kaudio driver or support of ics.Can it be ported to a flashable zip?Big Thanks for it.
I use the 2x as my daily music driver with TF10.
With any rom that suports voodoo sound...
supercurio seems that is not going to bring us their implementation of Voodoo in CM10 and above : (
we never really even had voodoo sound, in our version only the amplifier controll worked, which is more like voodoo loud..

O2x has only 1 main speaker out n that's called mono.
I wouldn't mind that if it wasn't so weak and distorted at high (cough)
volumes.
FWIW mind you no software tweak can do any major difference to a small speaker like
this phone has. Of course nothing stops you to use an external sound system, that's
were software can do magick in the limits of course of the D/A conv. the O2x has to
offer, which is not that bad actually.
You can use the hdmi to bypass the D/A converter or even bluetooth anytime of the day though...
what you talking about there is 2 speakers, and the hp jack 3.5mm is stereo also

If you kindly tilt your phone. - i suggest you got a lg p 990 not su 660. - there will magically appear 2 - in words two - speakers to the left and right of your micro USB jack... further no need to say that the tech specs if you check them online clearly say "stereo speakers"
For further notice size doesn't matter.
But it shows that you have clearly no idea about actual audio technic and still think a speaker must be"this big" to do a good sound work.
That don't need BTW that I think this speakers are spectacular or something. But I think they got more potential...

I don't think so. As i know, p990 has just one speaker, another one is just micro (which looks like second speaker).
About sound quality. I use dual boot with old boot just for voodoo sound. 1 rom is wiui with etana kernel which supports voodoo. I am using this rom only for music and second pa build4. We have a lot cm 10, 10.1 for old boot and i think it's enough for those people who really needs them and voodoo.

Size in speakers is very crucial as it defines the lowest frequency it can reproduce.
I don't want to get more technical about it but the bigger the speaker is, the lowest can get frequency wise.
As for all the other stuff I stand to my previous post.
If you don't mind, being cocksure about stuff is ridiculous in my book.
The speakers (ear speaker + main speaker)in p990 is low quality, the audio output has nothing to do with the speaker if this is ok with you that is.

Well if you read the post than you would have read that the so appeared second speacer is just the mic what appers as a speaker due it´s looks. I googled it and only a German site labled it falsely as Stereo speakers.
So this is realy akward that a phone life MOTO Defy has so much better and louder audio quallity in phone speaker and headphone sound.
I´m a real adiophile and i suggesting to get another phone just because the poor audio quality :crying:
I'm considering picking up this phone and I've seen quite a few claims that if you disabling Beats will "replace the beats profile with one that reduces audio quality" instead.
Anyone confirm/deny this? If it's true, does it make a large difference? Are there any ways (Custom ROM, kernel, etc..) that fixes this problem?
PLEASE NOTE: I do not want comments on how the beats audio sounds better than anything else - I want comments on if turning it OFF will degrade the sound quality as some people claim.
It sounds better with beats audio but it sounds great with it off as well.

Sounds better is subjective. WHY does it sound better? Explain!
With my taste in music I want a "bright" sound with pretty controlled and laid back bass. I do consider myself quite enthusiastic about good sound quality and honestly, afaik Beats sounds, to me, the entire opposite of what I think is good sound quality.
Anyone can explain to me how the sound quality compares to any other phone they've used?
imho, it seems just making the volume louder, but cannot hear much difference... would anyone advise me if there is some kind of settings/ EQ etc? I can't find that... thanks

AFAIK Beat is an active equaliser, meaning that it adjusts to the audio input so that the output isn't distorted and sounds as good as it can on a software level, sure you can create sound like this with an EQ, but then you may have to create sound profiles for ever genre rather than just playing it, but for the record it creates better sound quality which is consistent with all music types that i've tried it with. (magic )
Bass is stronger, delivering a crisper yet softer bass as opposed to a punchy crackle which you'll find on other handsets, trebles are fair and i've heard much louder but in terms of actual clarity it's right up there with the best, mid levels are decent too, so if you want a treble sounding phone then this isn't for you, but for everything else and for the whole package this is where it's at.
I'm referring to the sound that the phone itself delivers, if you were to couple this with a decent set of headphones (i got a pair of solo beats for free with my phone from carphone warehouse, i think they've sold out now) the sound is phenomenal, for picking up and playing a song it is second to none, not the galaxy s4 nor any of the other top of the range handsets can compare to it, the reason for this is because HTC has obviously done it's homework for the audio part of the system and used it as a major selling point.
I'm by no means a music enthusiast but i love them and several of my friends who are music enthusiasts (some producers and DJ's) have said that the sound is superb, obviously not as good as a studio but lets not forget that this is a phone that we're talking about here and for what it is it won't be beaten.

That's exactly what I do not want when using my Sennheiser headphones.
Boosting the bass gives a sound signature I really do not like too much. I want it to be balanced and rather a bit laid back as opposed to strong and, imo, overpowering. Bright and detailed with a wide soundstage is more my cup of tea.

Sounds like your already dead set against it, why don't you go down to a shop with your headphones and try it out, sorry but I'm not going to delve Into how I feel about the sound quality anymore, this thread and your responses are about as predantic as it gets. I tried to give you a detailed explanation and my experience of the sound on top of other people whom I know.
You don't appear to want to hear that so get one and try it for yourself.

None of these replies have answered my question about it though. so let me rephase:
I've seen several reviews claim that this phone use 2 different profiles for Beats audio;
1. The ON profile which activates the "enhancement"
2. The OFF profile which, rather than just deactivating beats audio, will reduce the sound quality below that of what the DAC is capable of.
Now may I have any comments relevant to this question (rather than just saying the sound quality of this phone is good or bad).
Also, not all stores here allow you to try out the phones like so unfortunately.

I think it's much clearer, and s bit louder. But clearer. I used to have an HTC sensation, where in the middle of your video or music you had a toggle to turn off Beats. And trust me, there is a difference. I even record university lectures on it, and beats tunes out the background noise and boosts that of the speaker. It does wonders . But you can always get the phone and turn off Beats and download an equalizer from the pay store.

We're missing a critical piece of information from you : do you primarily listen through the phone's speakers or use headphones? Given that you don't seem to have a One yet (and thus have normal phone speakers which are pretty terrible ) you probably use headphones. The reason this is critical (and why the whole situation is kind of irrelevant) is because when using the phone speakers turning the enhancement off does make it sound worse IMO. However, if you're using headphones, turning it off makes it sound better assuming you have a decent pair of course. I don't know if you're like me and prefer a natural base level over an artificially high one, but if you are then you can just turn off beats and let the headphones do the work and it will sound just as good as using any other portable audio player out there. See why it's all irrelevant now? You can turn it on to use it when it's good and off when it's not, and if you personally feel that it's never good, then you can just turn it off and rely only on the hardware which is just as good as any other portable source.
So take home points (I'll keep them simple and clear) :
1. Yes it sounds worse if you turn off beats when using the phone's speakers.
2. It does sound better to those looking for a more natural sound profile to turn off beats when using a pair of quality headphones.
3. Turning off beats does not seem to activate an "intentionally low quality profile." That wouldn't make any sense, it's just a tweaked equalizer...

Yep I'm thinking of the headphone performance indeed, speakers I usually don't care too much about, I can see why they seemingly optimized the speakers for use with the beats turned on.
Another thing to mention, I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus which has a rather decent DAC. Nothing spectacular but decent enough. If you have any comments on the SQ difference between the One and the Gnex or any similar devices, do post them.

For practicality reasons I too usually use headphones. I'm sorry I've never had a galaxy line phone to compare to. But if you think about it theoretically, you're going to be playing mp3 files in all likelihood. Hopefully they're 320kbps at least, but still mp3s. At this level of listening comparing one source to another is pretty difficult I think; there's just too much compression already. Which is why I think contrasting portable audio source quality is a moot point, it depends more on the headphones. But fortunately you need to get up into the thousands of dollars in equipment to decern the finer details anyway.

Actually most of my collection is ripped in flac ^^
My setup at home is a far better source than any phone can produce, not super high end but still a good setup.
Nonetheless, I care for having a decent enough audio source from my phone as a large portion of my music listening is when away from home and I don't want to carry a ton of portable equipment and media players when I can have it all done from my phone.

I want to get the SP , but I heard from some reviews that it have a very low audio volume when using headphones , is that true? and if it is true how low is it, I'm taking the subway everyday to work and I'm afraid that I won't hear my music , I don't care about the loudspeakers I'm setting my phones to vibration anyway. thanks

yes I saw the gsmarena test but it says on the description the sound when pluging a headphone is pretty low
hmmm , I guess I'll look for something else , too lame that sony is one of the leading companies in Audio products but they can't make a phone with proper audio quality .
I like the sp so much it looks good perform good but something little as sound volume can mess it up.
No complaints here. I use headphones while running and I use etymotics while on the motorcycle (in a helmet). I'm no audiophile and it sounds just great to me. Clean and crisp.

Thanks for replying , but what do u think about the loudness , is it enough or its low?
The standard headset that comes with the SP just sucks, plug in your average headphones and there is nothing to complain about..

the sound is awesome, like others have said the standard earphones suck terribly. i use my sp with a surround system in my room and it sounds just as good as my mac or iPod which have magnificent audio. the built in speaker is LOUD much louder than an iPhone or s4 and theres minimal distortion at max volume
They're many reviews out there complaining about the G5 Plus's horrible loud speaker and a really low max volume.
Have these problems been fixed with the G5S Plus?

You need to root the phone for most, if not all mods, ya? You aren't referring to viper4android? I've heard it works great.
I had one of those big clunky early smart phones, I think it was called the MDA, and I remember that you needed a PC to root the phone. Is that still the case, or can you root with Mac?

External speaker is loud, just not very good. Earpiece is a tad low about same as my 6p. Root - try reading 1 of the posts already available for more info.
