Introduction - Off-topic

Hello, XDA.
I joined the forum after hearing that is was "basically the hub of anything to do with Android." I also joined because I'm in the beginning stages of developing Android applications (learning Java), and I eventually wish to release a free, open source application to contribute to the community -- to the world. I won't be specific as I really can't at the moment; I'll be a little more specific when I finish the Java tutorials by Oracle. I don't intend to reinvent the wheel, I just expect to make it better. =p
My goal on this site is to integrate, learn, and enjoy myself at the same time.
Albeit insignificant, I am familiar with a coding language called "gotos" or so I've heard it called that. More specifically, the Mugen engine that focuses on developing fighting game characters and stages through a compilation of graphical and audio components. The coding is mostly based off of physics and trigonometry (two subjects at which I excel) and a bunch of other cultural expectations.
Away from the digression: The ancient syntax of the Mugen engine, believe or not, has helped me a great deal in understanding the object orientated language known as java.
In java, I'm not ready to code any applications or anything yet, but I understand the basic functions so far. I'm just finishing up the Interfaces and Inheritance portion of the aforementioned tutorials. I know it will take years for me to become a wiz at this java stuff. I mean, I've been doing Mugen for 4 years and I'm still learning new stuff (and the coding language is as easy as it is inferior).
I own a Galaxy S2 phone, am running gingerbread (I think that's what it's called, this uncertain is exactly why I'm a n00b). Whatever that information is worth. Maybe I should put that in my signature.
Anyway, I hope to integrate well. I am not new to forums, so I don't expect to step on anyone's toes or anything. The video before I registered was very, very entertaining, but nothing in it surprised me.
Cheers, Mr. Holmes.

Welcome. I'm new too.

Welcome to the forum mate, and good luck with your app development.

Thinking Space : Preview of new Mind Mapping app for Android

Hi,
Here's a special XDA preview of my entry for ADC2: Thinking Space
Thinking Space is a Mind Mapping application for Android.
Features include basic compatibility with Freemind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net) and XMind (via Freemind import/export)
Heres a image export from the application, which helps to explain its purpose:

If you are in to Mind Mapping, I would very much appreciate any feedback you have at the moment.
It's been a massive challenge to get this to where it is now in the couple of months since the Android Developers Challenge 2 was announced, so some bits are still a bit rough around the edges, but overall it's quite complete now.
The Cloud support is very basic at the moment, however I hope to have a web frontend soon that will allow you to download your maps and also upload new revisions from your PC.
Thinking Space is freeware, I may even open source it once I've had the oppurtunity to tidy the source up abit!
Edit:
Now on Android market:

Hi,
The cloud function uses Google App Engine to the store the maps online.
I've done an update for Droid and Tattoo screens users.
If anyone has a Droid, and particulary a Tattoo, I'd be really interested in hearing any feedback you have!
Any UK devs going to Android Labs on the 19th November?

How people experience music in their lives

My name is Carlos Rivas and I am a student on the MSc course in Applied Music Psychology at Roehampton University in London and member of the XDA Developers community. I am currently undertaking going a research project on how people experience music in their lives. I’m most interested in the intense experiences that music can bring out in us.
Through a series of questions, I would like to know more about those moments when you’ve felt intense emotions while you have been in contact with music. The purpose of the research is to outline how these intense emotions and music are related, and try to find whether different people have similar experiences related to music (as listeners, or as musicians).
If you like to participate, you may following link http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dHdiSzJva2k1NjUwX054bTRMblRvemc6MQ
Thanks in advance!

Taken your survey - But I couldn't answer the big question (the second screen) as I am at work and didn't have time Hope my answer do help some though.
I do like the line at the top about as you experience when NOT high
I just took that survey. I enjoyed every minute of it and i'm gald I had the chance to share my opinions on music with other people.
The last question on the first page? Yeah. I don't understand it. Make it something a high school freshmen can read Mr. I'M COOL BECAUSE I'M IN COLLEGE!

Major in Computer Science?

I've never particularly liked any branch of my academics, however I excelled in my English classes and I thought the most natural thing to do was declare it my major. I absolutely hate academic reading though, as I see it mostly as a lot of meaningless interpretation of issues that aren't there, and mostly guesswork. The thought of wading through 200 pages a week of 1000 CE English writing does not sound at all appealing to me.
So given my interest in computers and my tinkering with them over the last 10-12 years or so, I've been thinking about changing my major to computer science. I know C.S. is more than just programming, but out of the learning of python I've done by myself, it seems actually pretty fun and like I can really immerse myself in what I'm doing.
However, my previous record in math and school in general has not been extremely successful. Our school never offered anything past Pre-Calc, but I made an A in it, and a B in Physics.
Can anyone shed some light on what more I should do, or help me think my decisions through?
Thanks
I'm not sure if the impression of C.S. in US is the same as in Asia, but over here people who do C S usually end up doing coding (not programming!) jobs and those are mostly outsourced from countries like India and China. So even if we happen to be interested in any part of CS it remains more of an interest rather than an actual, stable working career. Like medicine.
So I'm a freshman majoring in C.S. I have to take Calculus and Calculus II next semester. Also as the major class I have "Computer Programing and Problem Solving" which is basically intro to programing. So far we are doing pseudocode but next week I think we are starting Java.
same here ... but the maths is really insane , we have Math(its called analytics) I , II , III , IV , V ... and for all other similar branches there are only I and II
we doing C now , Java and some others will be coming up ... but the compiler we work with(and use to verify ur project) makes me want to strangle a cat !! it doesnt even work in Win 7 since its been desined for W95 and lacks copy paste LIKE AN IPHONE
predicting formulas , color coding and solutions as u type ? dream on ...

[Android, iOS, BB] Zazu Mornings helps you start your day!

Hi guys,
I posted several months ago about a program called Zazu Alarms. Since then, we have been hard at work at polishing the program and releasing it on new platforms. Zazu is an application that knows you. It reads your weather, your schedule, your local deals, your news, and more!
Today, we are proud to announce that Zazu Mornings is now available on iOS (iPhone/iPad), Blackberry, and Android. You can download it from our website, and be sure to check us out on facebook, and twitter!
Here is some more information about Zazu:
. Ever woken up wondering what’s in store for the day? We all suffer from this digital dependency that drives how we make decisions, who we meet, what we buy and even how we feel.
. We live a world where we rely on unintelligent apps to tell us what’s next. The mail app only shows you mail, the calendar app only shows you the day’s meetings; the maps application still doesn’t know you’re heading to your next meeting. It’s like having an assistant who can only do one thing at a time.
. Zazu provides integrated access to your personal information, helping you make informed decisions. We integrate with your calendar, weather, traffic, news, and internet content that’s most important to you. Instead of just giving you one piece of data, we intelligently layer it together, helping you spend less time forging through different apps.
. Our technology should work for us and we don’t believe it’s too much to ask for. It’s time for apps to become smarter. It’s time to think less and do more.
Thanks for taking the time to check this out, and please feel free to try it out (Android and iOS versions are free!) and post your feedback here. We love feedback
Happy Zazu'ing!

This is the paid section of the forum. And according to THIS section of the forum, members that have been here for a while, meaning a senior (like hazex is...) can advertise what they have new in any market place. He's not breaking any rules. The only thing missing is on the title of the OP to add what platform is the game for, as for now it only says [GAME].
