Adobe Photoshop Touch - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, was curious if any developers here are able to get Photoshop Touch working on the Note?
The Note is also advertised as a tablet as well and this would be so much better than the crappy Express version.
I have a feeling we need to wait for ICS for this to work but I am hoping I am wrong.
Thanks

Some people say it works with ICS on the Galaxy Nexus so it's definitly necessary ICS. Anyone have tried on the Note with CM ICS?

Photoshop Touch is a "Honeycomb" application, and as such requires Android 3+ to work. There's pretty much zero chance of getting it to work on Gingerbread as it simply doesn't have the frameworks to support the Honeycomb APIs.
ICS *should* remedy this.
Regards,
Dave

If and when it works, it would be so amazing on the Note.

I dunno mate, I thought the same, but something wrong here!
Check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7H7uk6QvbM
Shows photoshop touch runs on N7000, noticing the notification bar, I believe that guy is using stock ROM (GB 2.3), made me confused.
Tried to find a working apk, but all gave me parse error.
Dunno, video is real but, all other sources says it's not possible
Regards,
Hani

There actually "is" an APK that allows it to be installed and works on Gingerbread and the Note specifically, if you've already bought it for use on a tab, then morally I don't see why you shouldn't use it (as you can buy once, install to many with apps you buy anyway) but legally I'm not so sure.
Swyped from my finger, to your face on my Samsung Galaxy Note, using Tapatalk!

Photoshop touch does indeed run on ICS. I've used it, and it runs well
I have also used the modified version for gingerbread RavenY2K3 is talking about. The creator of that version has modified resolution in the apk so as to make it run on low-res GB phones. Using it amounts to piracy, so I'd advise you to cease discussion about the GB version ;-)
The thing is, Photoshop touch, when it runs on a full-size tablet, is much more natural, fluid and intuitive. Coming to our smaller display, the Note is still a better option than most 'phones', but is still a little restricted. Basically the menus and buttons appear tiny, and they have to be. The good thing is, it's very smooth with the S-Pen.

the video is real, I went to the site and downloaded the modded apk. it works flawlessly.on my.GNote N7000. keep in mind it was made for tablet so everything is smaller....(icons/tools) BUT using the app with Spen is NO problem. works amazing with Spen. =] BTW if u get "parse error" its very normal I had to download apk from their mediafire link 3 times before succeeding. sometimes it doesn't download apk. file properly so just keep trying. I recommend downloading straight from your Note. =] if.you want apk just PM me.and ill.send u my.dropbox link .

I don't recall Sammy ever releasing anything to do with Froyo before this.. not sure how it's old news but also not sure how it can help the SGS owners since its for their tablet/pad
hey good find... don't bother with the negativity!!! lets keep it positive!!! good job maybe someone can use it.. you never know...
Maybe Someone could do it, but i see problems due to Resolution differences between the Samsung Tab and the Vibrant.

SGS is 480x800
Tablet is 600x1024
Some in the Captivate forums were noticing all the files associated with the tablet had that set as the resolution.
Think I might do some work to see what I can do for it... I'm on a Captivate, so I'm not sure how it'd help out the Vibrant, but I'll see what I can do.

[MOD] FFC for the Vibrant development

MODDING THE SAMSUNG VIBRANT TO HAVE A FRONT FACING CAMERA (FFC)
DISCLAIMER: It is NOT my fault if this Breaks your Device, or if you screw it up trying to do it. blah blah you know the drill. XDA is also not responsible. This WILL void your warranty. Luckily it is easy to do.
***THIS IS ONLY FOR THE VIBRANT***
Other phones are slightly different inside
Required:
-Compatible rom (Bionix fusion or eugene's froyo or any rom that the dev specifically says ffc compatiable)
-JAC's OC/UV Kernel. Stock kernel will not work, period. Voodoo should also work KK's kernel also does not work.
-An FFC, of course (see below for where to get it)
HOW TO DO IT:
1. Open your phone
2. Remove the 7 screws or so
3. Remove the internal battery cover.
4. Remove your Vibrant camera... it is snapped in under the cam chip.
5. Using Goof OFF! or denatured alcohol or something similar, dip a q-tip in the chemical, and slightly dab the whole where it is to go.
6. Let it sit for 10-20 minutes, and repeat (or if you are anxious, don't wait...)
7. Using something plastic for the safety of the digitizer glass, and scrape out the gunk.
8. Now, definitely let everything dry before putting your phone back together, and MOST definitely before you put the battery in and turn it on. Give it 20-30 minutes to be safe... depends on the chemical used.
I used a flat head screw driver, which is metal, but if you choose this USE EXTREME CAUTION!!
For more info, go to my thread in the General section as I may have missed something/got something wrong in this post. It has been a while since I first did this mod...
Useful tidbits:
If you get force closes when trying to use a the cam, then you did not read instructions. Use the proper kernel.
Banding is present in low light conditions. This looks to be a software issue. Popular belief is that the phone is powering both cameras at the same time when either is called, and is basically confusing itself. This is a work in progress.
Software that is known to work is Fring, various lame mirror apps, etc. Android video calling is only available in Froyo, but I have not tested it recently since Eugene's R3, so I cannot confirm that it working ATM. Tango may also work.
Attached the mach.aries file for those of you that wanna chip in and do some digging. Looks like most of the things we need are in there. Attached a .rar and a .zip file... for some reason I had both? It's been a loooong couple weeks.
Epic camera: thanks to KellyLewis3985 for the dl.
http://db.tt/0DEkw9X
How to Flash:
1. Download the ZIP and put it on the root of your INTERNAL SD Card.
2. Open ROM Manager and boot into ClockWorkMod (DO NOT use Stock Recovery) or boot into recovery the manual way.
3. Navigate down to "apply sdcard: select zip" and locate the .zip file in your internal SD card. Push the power button, navigate down to "YES" and push the power button once more.
4. Let it do its thing, and reboot. First boot *may* take an extra second... Play with new cam app.

Well, due to over whelming support, i'm not done. Last batch has sold out, and some new options have presented themselves. Also, with the help of a few others, they are getting mad progress on diving through source code working on the banding issue... Keep following this thread for progress.

So.... An ebay user who is also an xda member deliberately screwed me out of a camera and the money for it, so after this batch is gone, i'm done. He never updated his address with ebay or paypal, and of course i sent it to the address i had... and he got ebay to not only refund the full price but keep the fees for the sale and money transfer. Way to say thanks to the guy that got this started... asshole. oh! i get it. he is just out of high school and is a little slow to how the world works. probably because he "works on a farm with 70 dairy cows." <- quote from him.

Currently, I have only tested the FFC in JP3 and Bionix. Mirror app works fine, but is useless.
Video calling is doable, but not available in Bionix. Is available in JP3, but is broken.
Have not had a chance to test Tango, but Fring looks to be coded to use the rear camera...

Ok, I am a little confused as to which thread I should be posting in. But here goes.
My FFC wont load in Mirror App using Bionix 1.8 Stock Kernel.
Here is the logcat. http://pastebin.com/biJmEhPr
----------- Edit -----------
Ok, so I finally got around to installing a Rom with a modified kernel. (Specifically Bionix 1.8 w/ Jacs)
The Mirror app now loads the FFC and the image is actually better than the rear cam at the moment.
So, it looks like whatever is going on in the kernel makes a huge difference. Perhaps someone can
take a look at the i9000 and Bell SGS Kernel's.
Posted this in the other thread and it was recommended that I post it here:
Just a thought to kick around some ideas, has anyone looked at this?

Looks like there are a few options that could be tweaked, including 'antibanding' for 50 and 60hz

Grainy or blurry?
If blurry, you can rotate the focus ring on the actual camera. That's what Cobra did to fix his.
Received camera, installed and confirmed that mirror app works on Bionix 1.7 with JAC voodoo kernel(voodoo activated). Unfortunately, the rear camera problem still exists. Tweaking focus now via outer ring of FFC.
Just installed the new camera. Still on stock JI6 ROM. Banding happens. I recorded some video and can post it if people are interested. Might check if there is any logging that happens when the camera starts up.

[REQ] - Deodexed Nexus S Camera.apk

This version of the camera is reported to have a "macro" feature and from pictures I've seen, I'm digging the UI. I've got a SGS TMO Vibrant and wanted to try and push the deodexed camera.apk from the Nexus S GB build to my phone to see if my camera hardware is capable of the "macro" feature.
EDIT:
For those unfamiliar with what "Macro" mode is / means...

Same here man, would love to use the nexus s camera apk..

Haven't heard anything yet. I am mostly clueless about how to deodex an APK but that can be learned given time. Haven't looked into it enough. I just wonder if the camera.apk is relatively standalone or also has library / framework dependencies that will be need to deodexed as well. Hopefully nothing about the camera is tied to Gingerbread / the new GB SDK API level. If that's the case, it's totally out of my league for now.
With the fast progress being made on getting GB to run on the SGS family of phones though, I'm going to wait a bit to see if a flashable, bootable GB becomes available that includes the Camera. If that's the case, having the camera for Froyo might become a secondary concern.
Would any Nexus S users care to comment on how well the "Macro" feature of the camera works? I don't expect it to be DSLR quality but how does it compare?
I have the Nexus S I guess i dont know what you mean by the macro feature...

Yes, having the APK posted here might be useful. I was assuming it wouldn't be a standalone package but I'll try it if posted. It might be easier than I thought.
huh.. didn't notice that option before...
Here's the apk
For those interested...
Installation of the attached APK file throws a parsing error during installation. Upon inspecting the logcat, I see that reason for this is: "Requires newer sdk version #9 (current version is #8)". For those unaware, #8=2.2 Froyo and #9 = 2.3 Gingerbread. The APK will likely need to be modified before it can even have a chance at installing / running on anything pre-Gingerbread.
I decompiled the APK. Then I opened up AndroidManifest.xml and changed the "9" to "8" in the 2 places that I found it listed. However, I don't know how to recompile it so I can place it back in the APK. Do I have to recompile the whole APK or is there a way to just do this one file / replace it in the already compiled APK? Signing it is optional, right?

Gmail tablet layout in Galaxy Note?

Hi all, this is the very first thread i start here in this forum, so go easy on me if i do something wrong.
Thing is, i hate zooming in and out in email/website, and since we have the luxury of high screen resolution in the galaxy note, i really want to make used of it. first of all is the email. the Gmail app is clearly not designed for such high resolution phone in the first place. but using this "phone" app on Galaxy Note, and still zooming in and out seems stupid to me. Yes it needs to be some kind of ICS build (whether CM9 or otherwise). The reason being is that ICS includes aspects of the Honeycomb API which Gingerbread does not. These tablet elements are activated in ICS when the user sets the DPI below 200 (you need root to do this), and thus the phone behaves more like a tablet than a phone in its appearance.
This is how you will get the tablet style Gmail layout.

Maybe you should fix that. Have you used the kitchen before? If you don't have java configured properly you're just going to have tons of trouble trying to do any deving in the future.
Also, why are you trying to port to the Gnex from the N4? 4.2 OTA already rolled out to Gnex, everything from N4 should be there, except code specific to the device, like driver binaries and wireless charging support.
