Flashed CM9 with glitch kernel, still have to root? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I just flashed cyanogenmod 9 with the glitch v14 beta kernel. Amazingly fast and smooth. One problem, my phone doesn't seem to be rooted...Doesn't cm9 and the glitch kernel root your phone automatically? Or did something go wrong?
Can I just use superoneclick to root it now? Or will that screw everything up?

Instead of superoneclick, try to download superuser app from the Market first.
Sent from my sgs

I already have superuser installed, it's just for managing apps that require root, not for rooting itself.

Normallary its rooted now, if you flashed the Glitch Kernel v14

Really? Damn it. You think I should reflash the kernel? If I look at the phone's information the kernel version is icy glitch v14, so it flashed fine I guess.

Hi, i have tested all the Glitch kernels extensivly and they all give me same result sooner or later, sometimes even at first reboot, they go into bootloops and there is NO way to access CWM
I would surely try the newest Devil kernel 14.2 witch is soo awesome and smooth
Had it a couple days now, and NO problems at all
The Devil rocks

Strange stuff. I tried superoneclick, but according to it the phone is already rooted...which isn't the case.
Will try to reflash the kernel with glitch. If that doesn't solve the problem i might try devil.

Speedmod and Voodoo (Darkys)

Hey i guys I have a serious question hoping yall can help.
I am currently run Darkys v8 with the Voodoo 5 lag fix enabled.
Recently if your a Darkys fan as my self and I love v8 but when v8.1 becomes stable for the Captivate it will contain the new Speedmod Kernel.
I read both on Darkys forum that it is unnescessary to disable the voodoo lag fix when flash over the new 8.1.
As well as on the Speedmod FAQ they state that Speedmod and Voodoo are using the same filing system therefore you dont need to disable the lag fix.
Im just asking you guys if you could give me your experiences and if its really neccessary to disable lag fix then flash the new version of Darkys. (i.e. Voodoo Lag Fix 5.0 --->Speedmod Kernel)
Final note if something were to go wrong lets say with 8.1 because I did not disable the lag fix. This isnt anything a nandroid backup couldnt restore?
Thanks for any help in advance
Im using serindipity, but it had voodoo as well and I flashed speedmod over it just fine. A nandroid backup wouldn't fix it if it broke though, nandroid only does files, and the formatting is what's changing.

Ya I just figured that out.
But to be on the safe side I just disabled Voodoo.
Backed up kernel with SGS Kernel Flasher
Flashed Speedmod for the battery life and performance.
And also so when the v8.1 does go stable for the Captivate Im not going thru any troubles with changing kernels or lag fixes as 8.1 will have the same exact kernel and lag fix.
So if I were to ever have problems with kernels Id just restore my back ups I have it figured out now.
Thanks anyways
I'm using Perception 10.1 and I flashed SpeedMod straight over Voodoo5 without any issues, but like others have said, disabling it would be the safest bet.

Installing Dalingrin's kernal after root.

I recently rooted my NC to CM7 using the latest stable rom. While I was rooting it I forgot to download Dalingrin's (sp?p) So, I want to install it now. I dowloaded to file to my SD card, and I rebooted into recovery mode. Then I navigated to the file and opened it up and rebooted. Now for the stupid question; How do I know if it installed? I don't see any additional icons or anything. If it did work, how do I access the settings? The main thing I want it for is to fix the sound through the headphones and speaker.

Look at the performance settings, if you can oc to 1200, then you have the new kernel.
The "stock" cm7 is capped at 925.
Unless I'm wrong, I don't think the latest Dalingrin's OC kernel works with the Stable ROMs until 7.1 is released, right now it's only the nightlies.
See the pink text under Kernel Downloads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925451
I guess that explains why it didn't seem to do anything Thanks guys.
You could try flashing the older .29 kernel, I think that one works with the stable releases. Sorry, I didn't think of that earlier.

[Q] CheckRom V6 & What kernel?

Guys what it the best kernel for checkrom V6?
I mean.. i want advices BUT why did you made such a choice?
For me it is Franco hands down. Tested v2, v6 and the latest 'test' one (this will become v10 tomorrow or the day after, judging by the users' comments), and all proved to be smooth, fast, stable and easy on the battery on my Note.
I would second Franco kernel also. Been using it since v6 had no problems with lag at all. Battery life with this combination seems good as well.
Now this is a good start
I have been in CF ROOT for XXLC1 but i dunno why i feel the stock kernel is a little bit lagged in menus!
Will try Franco Kernel
Thanks for your replys!

Franco 9.....pure awesomeness !! Best battery backup m getting by using it. Earlier tried Abyss 4.2 but got a high battery drain !
Go for Franco !!!
but doesn't changing the kernel change some supported features in the rom ? like ntfs support for instance ?

Check the changelogs of the kernel you are about to use it will give you all the salient features and changes that it has and can happen!
Cheers!
Hey guys,
Don't wanna seem like jacking the thread, but is it possible to install Vertamus's ICS theme in V6?

Yeah of course! I have it installed on my phone. just go to the inbuilt kitchen (update it to the latest version from google play store) and download the file given there under the themes section. Its version1.1 as of now. And install it in recovery !!
Cheers! Hit thanks if it helped!
I was using stock CF-Root and it was fine, but the battery drain was a bit higher vs V5 CheckROM. Installed Franco and its running great, 1.5% Per Hour idle.
was using checkrom v6 with Franco's test kernel. Seems like its draining battery more than stock. Gonna verify it over the nxt few days by using stock
Also on Franco test kernel.
Also on franco kernel v9, works like a charm. Good battery life but no as good as CheckROM v5 & franco v6
For me Franco kernel cause constant sods.
I keep trying a newer versions and still same issue. This problem doesn't occur for me on other kernels

Yeah for some of the users Franco gives sods or screen salad issue - pixelated screen while other kernels work fine for them! Thankfully works fine for me

GT N7000 Franco.Kernel r6: Wifi won't work.. Please help

Yesterday, my Note just wouldn't connect using WiFi. It is rooted and running the latest Franco kernel (no custom ROM's).. I tried to wipe using built in CWM, reinstall kernel, go back to Version r5 & lots of other potentially solutions by people having the same problem (With another device).
Why is this happening?
Can it be fixed?
Does anyone else have the same problem?
Please go easy on me. I'm not very skilled, but if there IS a solution to this, i'd be forever grateful!
What i have not tried yet,
-Reinstall Busybox,
-switching from WPA to WPA2 on my router
-flash a custom rom
How about a simple idea? Stop using franco's r6 kernel. Although I respect franco's work, the kernel is not IMO a work in progress that never happened... Sleep of Death, pixel salad and wi-fi/network problems plagued the kernel and this is likely to be the root of your problems.
I recommend gavin.lewarne's NoteCore/HydraKernel or hardcore's Speedmod kernel. They are superior in every way from franco's old kernels.
Look in Original Android Development for the threads.
:good:
Thanks man, works amazing!

Before doing anything
Update busybox to latest version.
Wipe cache but do not format

how to overclock the Cappy

our cappy is fast as it is on 4.2 but i have yet to overclock a phone yet and i hear its not like taking the risk of OC your computer so i would like to try it out on the cappy first. so i have googled this already and it comes up with somone already OC it to 1.2 ghz which i would be fine with but in order to OC you need to flash a kernal i think it said? i am not fimilular with kernals with all of the phones i have messed with i have yet to touch kernals, the only time i have flashed a kernal (had a interesting custom recovery) was to root my cappy to put CM on it and got CWM after. i dont see the points of them other than more customization which im not interested in, so how would i go about doing this can someone help me out please?

You do indeed need a custom kernel that allows it. Flashing them is fairly simple, you just need a Odin flashable version if you don't wanna go the custom ROM way.
Make sure that your kernel is made for the current version your phone is running and that it's for the I897! As per your signature, Corn kernel would be your best option as it is for GB.

as of last night i flashed Cyangenmod to get CWM and then flashed paranoid android 3.99, mines a I896 btw i think since i got a bootloop its on At&t/firmware. (only useing on wifi for now) i had corn kernel before to get a recovery and root but if i want to OC it would i have to get corn kernel again? it was a pretty slow boot up every time i turned it on with the stock rom.
No you don't have nor want to. Corn is for GB, if you flashed CM, you're probably on JB.
You'll just have to flash a JB kernel that allows OC (like devil).

Buddy, read carefully what kernels are compatible with what ROMs and what Android versions.
The information you need is already available here on XDA in Captivate Android Development section.

so i was looking through some of my stuff on my cappy (cyangenmod 10.1.3 on it) and i looked at the performance option and it has the option to overclock it to 1.2 GHz, would i have to flash a special kernel? or am i fine like this?
Default CM kernel supports 1.2GHz step overclock, just set it and test for stability issues. Nothing else is needed.

first of all the t211 is a tablet not a phone . you have a dual core clocked at 1.2ghz im sure thats pretty fast i think its because you have too many apps. if you still want to overclock ask at the q&a section of its offical forums here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3 . cyanogenmod sometimes have the option to overclock their devices, i would check that out as well

OC is a kernel option so simply flash a kernel that allows it. That being said, you're not on the right sub-forum like Trozzul mentioned. Be sure to flash one for your tablet. OC has its disadvantages so make sure you read about it before going through with it.
