Samsung galaxy s 'usb brick' - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, to all.
I'm not sure i am the only one who has this problem on i9000,(i suppose not),
in any case i haven't found any thread related for our phone. So i thought it would be a good idea to start one,and if others have same problem, post here, so we can gather as much info we can.And maybe find a solution.
ANY HELP IS VERY APPRECIATED.
From what I've read on forum it's defined as: ''when a phone perfectly works but it is unable to make its usb micro port work in any way''.(Except charging). To precise, i mean make phone visible in download mode or able to enter in download mode, usb drivers install, transferring files to/from computer to internal memory and sdcard.
The only threads i found are for HTC devices, with no clear solution.
User Bejda gently gave me a link on a French forum with a similar problem.
It has alot of interesting info and personal opinions about the problem.
http://galaxys-team.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20841
Another link is this one referring to a program that can unbrick and make functional the usb port.
http://galaxys-team.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22257
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
1)GOOGLE DRIVERS (As i use cm7) --Didnt work in my case
2)Other cm7 version or other kernel from CWM --Didnt work in my case
3)Other pc usb port --Didnt work in my case
4)Other pc or format --Didnt work in my case
5)Other usb cable --Didnt work in my case
6)Mobile Odin --Cant use that to put stock firmware as i need to repartition and pit, and these options are disabled. Can they be enabled??
7)Clean Usb port/Check if it is ok --Didnt work in my case
8)Use Jig -- Didn't work either.
9)Use the program from the above forum??
10)Heimdall --Finds uknown device with 0000 ids etc,and fails to install device.Does work.Tried latest version.
11)Tried toggling BT--Didnt work.
12)Having the phone connected to notebook and then turning the notebook on -- Didnt work in my case
12)APPLYING CM9 ICS! -- YES THIS SOLVED MY PROBLEM!!USB DISCS WORKING SO AS ODIN ON DL MODE!!!!!THANK GOD!
Can't think something more..
About my case:
The phone works perfect but i cant manage my pc to 'see' my phone.Charging works.
The 2 discs of the phone
or even odin cant be seen.I tried different pc's,usb ports, usb drivers/controllers,cables,download or not mode, usb debbugging on/off , samsung and google drivers.
Other cm7 versions or kernel versions.Formatting the pc also.Whereas my friends phone on pc works perfectly, mine 8 out of 10 times is not recognised ,or found as uknown device.
Discs (internal and sd) also not shown on my computer.
On 3-4 days of trying i only managed to get it shown for 1 minute(only discs) ,didnt have time to try odin,as it disconnected (without me touching anything). After that it did the same before(not recognized etc).
I also dissembled my phone and i can say usb port seems perfect.
I was thinking if i manage to make odin work i can repartion and (update bootloader????) also put stock firmware/kernel that may fix it ,or not???
Or at least with stock i can try samsung's warranty.
Anyway for now i use My phone Explorer (via wifi) that can access eveything (contacts, sms, calendar, both disks on root folders etc,and its free)
because ftp apks dont work for me.

I ran into the same problem a few weeks ago, tested it all that you write about, but eventually I gave up and sent it to Samsung, they changed the circuit board on the warranty and now it's on its way back from service.
I said I tried to update the phone in Kies and that something went wrong ....
If you have a custom ROM on your phone, see if you can "destroy the software" so that they can not get into the phone and find that you have broken the warranty.

Thanks for your answer.
Well,you were on custom firmware/kernel?
I don't know if this can be done as i am on cm7 and i use a non stock kernel.

if you are on a custom rom you could try odin for mobile to flash a stock rom and send it to samsung (if you are still under waranty) for repairs/checks

you replaced it alone?
sent it somewhere??
In anycase today arrived my JIG .
Even when i enter in download mode with Jig,i cant make Odin see it in anyway/or install drivers.
Tried also BT toggling as stated, but nothing.

I did sent to rma, but I have done for my friend, because he was out of warranty, not so difficult if you have proper soldering tools. Well its not cheap to get them, Im working with pc's motherboards, and soldering components is my job.

i hope you understood that i was referring to this

i had this problem so many times even with my ex-galaxy spica.
My solution is very weird/unimaginable : One day, my spica remained plugged in my pc portable turned off. When i booted my pc portable,in my bios screen, my phone said it was connected in USB. It was the better day of my life
Precision : my pc portable is very old ( compaq presario R3200 )
From that momment, every USBrick was just matter of time

Thanks,
sorry i read too fast.Problem remains also even with Mobile Odin.
I am on modified kernel and cm7.
If i try to use mobile odin to put stock firmware kernel i will soft brick my phone as i need to repartition and pit,and these options on mobile odin are disabled

If you want to drop off cm, you can try mobile Odin....

Repair to a shop or samsung?
Claimed warranty or not?

i've got this problem to, you've probably got a faulty usb port, look into the port and see if you can find all the copper connectors, just today i tried a brand new usb cable, an that works!!!
only... it works 1 time, the first time the copper connectors aren't pushed into the cable, just look at an used cable and see what i mean, the connectors in the middle are pushed in....
what i think is that if you use a set of tweezers to pull them 1-2 mm out, (so they are lined up with the outer connectors) you can make contact again, make sure you're already in debugging mode, if you have used the cable you have to do it again..
btw, i havent tried the tweezers, i had a noever used cable laying around, but it's probably the same idea, so the same effect.... please reply if it worked or not...
btw^2 you're getting the "unknown usb device" error are you not?

Sorry for being late. These days i was ill
Yes maybe i have a faulty port.
But i can't claim warranty because i have glitch kernel and cm7 kang .
I just want to try 1st everything else possible , before a repair.
Also i don't like alot the fact that i will stay without my phone.
I will also try these days to keep it plugged on my turned off notebook (as oxmoss said)
and also try cm9 with cm9 kernel (as Dopedangel said).
Only sometimes (like 1 out of 10) it gives me unknown usb or usb malfunctioned, and (like 2 out of 1000!) it found the phone correctly.
These days , some times if i try to 'move' the cable near the phone it finds the uknown device
but i cant do nothing more. And sometimes i also hear the sound of the speakers getting 'stacked' when connect the usb..
So it must be the usb...
But the pins seem perfect. Also the ones inside the motherboard...
I tried with tweezers but nothing,as everything seems ok...
Anyway for now i use My phone Explorer (via wifi) that can access eveything (contacts, sms, calendar, both disks on root folders etc,and its free)
because ftp apks dont work for me.
Anyway i will try the above solutions and update these days the thread.
Thanks again

It's not recognized when the phone is on? Seeing as you posted this topic using your phone I assume so lol. Have you tried restarting your computer?
You can download the correct drivers here.

Make sure you are using the oem usb cable. I had the same problem, changed cables and it worked
some cheap cables are for charging ... bt headsets and other stuff the data cables dont connect, its just for power.

You gotta make sure that your usb port is directly connected to your motherboard (usually back of your computer).
same usb port that has always worked. ive tried them all by now anyway
now i cant tell you how this helped but... i downloaded drivers to a different computer odin crashed while flashing reflashed and im 100% stock atm. Didnt do ANYTHING to my computer plugged it in and its working.

I'm having the same problem with my captivate after flashing REDROM. It won't recognize it if I have USB debugging turned on...
i have a theory... were you on a GB or other i9000 based rom/kernel???
well, im still having a problem getting my computer to recognize the phone, i have to mess with it for a a while to get it to work. i really want to flash anew 2.3.3 rom but without being able to get everything working right im stuck in 2.1
is this a problem with my cord or the connection on my phone? or something weird with my phone after flashing it a lot. its currently back to odin stock, i have been trying to master clear it with no luck

Guys, this problem while connecting to the PC body is stupidly charging .... Even in the download mode Odin does not see a body that could be? Connect other Cappy-all OK.

it must be a powered usb hub, on my buddies laptop only 1 out of 4 usb ports saw his phone.
if you can get into download mode you arent bricked.
try installing i9000 drivers, or try another computer.
I came up with this a while back. Could very well be the same issue.
Let me start by saying I'm flash happy, and everyone that knows me personally, tells me to just quit jacking with my phone. NOT A CHANCE! I'm on my 3rd Cappy and shouldn't have ever exchange it again. I only had to in the beginning, because I was a newbie and had not know enough, but to get me in trouble.
I presume that this should work on all Windows OS's. I personally am running Vista Enterprise x86.
My symptoms:
Plug in phone to the usb and it there was about a 15% chance off being able to mount to usb, and Windows recognizing as a mass storage device. I tried un-installing drivers and re-installing and it would work some of the time, until the point came when parts of the driver install would fail. Then to the point when it was just completely unrecognizable. I thought I had it fixed because it seemed intermittent. In the middle of flashing to stock, something interrupted communication between the pc and my phone. Restarted the phone and attempted the flash again. Got a little farther and froze again. I had to use another pc that I had never connected my phone to before and I was able to use my jig to trigger download mode, because no buttons combinations would allow it into download mode.
This got me thinking that it was specific to my pc and not my cable or my phone.
My resolution:
I went straight to the registry and went to find. I deleted every entry that came up for "i897" and "i9000" excluding what was listed in the system volume information, as I didn't have permissions to remove any keys. I didn't keep count, but I probably deleted 300-400 registry keys that pointed to my phone. It seems as if with each developers rom that I had flashed, there was an entry for a different device. Don't quote me on that, because it is just my personal consensus. I also un-installed the samsung drivers, the unknown device driver, kies software, and anything associated with samsung. I noticed that next to all of the i9000 instances, the hex key for me started with 1000ee. So I also searched for the first part of that key trying to ensure that all instances of the device. Lastly, I deleted the samsung folder from program files.
I installed the samsung drivers package commonly listed in all of the other threads for x86 operating systems. I plugged in my phone and watched as each and every driver installed successfully. Keep in mind different drivers are installed depending on if you have usb debugging on/off, and the options for if the preferences on you phone are set to media, storage, or kies. I have multiple usb ports, however testing has shown me that, for me and my setup, I can plug into the port that I used when installing the drivers the final time, I am able to connect consistently. Earlier today, I tried to plug into a different usb port and it was an unknown device. I am led to believe, this is because I didn't un-install the unknown device on this particular port.
If you intend to work in the registry, please remember to always back it up first. You can always restore.
Hopefully my findings can help you as they did me. Happy flashing and I would like to thank the community for the dedication to assisting each other and the developers, for making flashing, better than crack cocaine. Flashing rom's doesn't make you twitch near as much as a crackhead.
Well since you can't use your phone you should sell it to me

Captivate suddenly not detected by PC

ok first off I have searched and have yet to find a sollution. So if there is one please flame me and point me to it.
Problem : I have 2 computers, both win 7 x64 pro. my desktop does not detect any cell phone, my friends droid 1 or my samsung captivate..... Both have all the drivers installed. That is a small problem because i have a laptop that does ( DID)
Big problem : phone having problems, me flash captivate and flash fail ( i think i used odin 2.2 flasher which for some reason doesnt want to work, i tryed it a few times before... but anyways so I'm in download mode and now the computer wont detect my phone, just like my desktop, I get the UNKNOWN USB device or the usb device did not install correctly blah blah blah malfunction... SO now I'm able to get into DL mode but thats it.... so where is the fix for this? Please help . its so strange that no changes were made and it goes from having worked for months to not working at all suddenly...
Again neither odin v 2.1 or v 2.2 ( as in froyo and eclar) will detect phone nor will the hemdol program or what evs.... so i can not boot past download mode. Please help .
the answers are out there... itll just take a bit of reading... however sounds like there are program incompatibilities somewhere not allowing your drivers to install especially after you said drivers did not install blah blah. Also try changing usb ports when you plug it in and go through and check to make sure all you usb drivers and ports are functioning properly. Furthermore check to ensure your charging port isnt loose and or pins bent or broken same with your cable.
try this as well... says right click and run odin in admin etc.

What rom are you on? CM7 MIUI?
Well huge problem... for some reason the phone wont charge now so now i cant even get in DL mode and before that i couldnt for the life of me no matter what i read find a fix for the USB issue. idk what the **** it is but its really annoying.... I was using OFFICAL 2.2 and was trying to reflash it and try it again or flash 2.1 because i was getting random restarts. then the flash failed for some reason first time ever I think ( i seriously have flashed about a dozen times since ive had my phone over 9 months, So i know alot and have read alot, have a jig and all that jazz) so i know what im doing... I just got my phone back from samsung about a month ago they fixed a random button pressing problem, and now the turning off on a Stock rom ( plus firefly prior, why i went back to stock) made me paranoid, plus i use it as a clock for work so i cant have it turn off randomly at all. So what am I to do? I possibly can use my friends battery for a bit or my womans... but im thinking maybe this has less to do with computer now and possibly that my phone fried or something that i should send it in to samsung for warranty repair...since obviously if it was restarting on a new 2.2 instalation obviously there were probably some problems...
I read a similar story of this randomly happening to another experienced user on google, and he sent it in to samsung and they just sent him a new phone... my AT&T warrianty is long gone on my refurb but i still got 3 months left with samsung... idk why it isnt even charging on wall outlet or computer...
what to do?
Did the phone go "dead" after a failed firmware flash? Or it literally just all of a sudden won't charge? If it was truly random then it's a hardware problem all the way and most likely an issue with the USB port or a trace routed through it. Only 2 lines control charging and the Captivate is notorious for a pretty solid port from my findings.
Well I left my phone in the wall for hours and I guess it does charge so its not completely dead. Now just the issue of reflashing stock on there... so getting the USB to work in my computer. I take it the USB in the phone isnt dead or the JIG wouldnt work... I just want to know if the Random shut off is hardware related or a bad flash / rom? Anyone know what has less problems? 2.1 or 2.2? I dont think my keyboard is in 2.1 so i dont think i could take it... but i just want a working phone with my gingerbread keyboard <3 I just dont want it to turn off on me...
and now randomly odin's will still not detect, but heimdol will, but it fails about 18% into factoryrfs or what evs. And Yes I have used it before and yes I am following all directions. WTF this is blowing my mind... and yes repartition is selected
Are you using an OEM Samsung Cable? Don't use knock off cable for anything more than charging...
just fyi if u rooted ur phone and samsung checks the programing to find out and trouble shoot it will void your warranty and youll have to pay for it... so um maybe try spending the 50 and go with a refurb thru insurance.
Yes I'm using stock cable...
ANd its not rooted, its not ANYTHING since there is no OS on the phone so no way to see anything to void anything...
now most things ( on different computers) will detect the phone and all odin and heimdol but they will both fail at the beginning of any flash... Its like nothing can be pushed through the phone.... ?

It doesn't necessarily screw with it. Heimdall installs a custom WinLIB USB driver to operate with Samsung Composite USB devices. This driver is used for Samsung Download mode which ODIN doesn't recognize. To switch back to using ODIN, you just need to go into device manager and uninstall the device and be sure to DELETE DRIVER FOR THE DEVICE. Then just plug the phone back in when in DL mode and the Samsung driver will be re-installed. However, this is really beginning to sound more like a hardware problem. I emailed you back and would be happy to put a final diagnosis or repair on the devil phone.

[Q] Usb problem with my galaxy

So heres the thing.
I flashed some firmware on my phone (did it 100 times no problem) but i got fail in odin.
I said ok nothing is wrong i can fix it. but to my suprise Odin wont recognise my phone. I get a message that the Usb is unknown.
Now beacuse i reinstalled my drivers i think that the computer needs a first time plug of another galaxy s to install the driver from the phone is that correct? (Cause my phone can only go to download mode)
so all i need to do is to get another galaxy s plug it in and let the computer recognise it for the first time. and than use my broken phone phone and it will work?
what firmware was it ,if it was ics sometimes you lose usb connections and odin wont recoqnise the phone

Problem solved here. I hope this solution helps you
I've tried so much, seriously SO MUCH. At the end it turns out it was my usb cable. i ripped my old usb cable apart for making me go ape ****.
lesson? No matter how many times you install, change ports, etc. Always be sure to try a new usb cabel. If you don't have a second one, i'd suggest you go buy a second one, it's worth a try. The whole time it wasn't working it was my stupid usb cable, changed it and in an instance i was ready to roll.
Wish you good luck!

Computer doesn't recognize the NOTE anymore. (ADB or drive mapping)

My laptop (and other computers I've tried) stopped seeing the note.
When I plug it in it only says charging but I don't see a new device added on Windows.
ADB says waiting for device. If i disable usb debugging a message about MTP comes up upon connection but I don't see any drives mapped in windows at all. Device manager doesn't show any android or untecognized devices.
I tried uninstalling samsung usb drivers and reinstalling them. Nothing helps. I am starting to think I have a hw issue. Anything else you can think of friends?

#$%^@! Samsung USB drivers will be the death of us all.
I experienced something similar the other day: had the standalone drivers installed which worked well, then suddenly stopped for reasons known only to CIA and KGB, I suppose.
This is what helped:
1. uninstalled drivers
2. installed fresh Kies *yecch*
Will give it a try mate. Thanks!

update : things aren't looking good.
I did a full wipe, tried a different kernel and installed KIES.
Nothing helps, the comp doesn't even make that sound when a new usb is plugged in so it doesn't even try to look for drivers or mount it.
Is it really HW issue or can i still try anything ?

Im pretty sure you already tried it but...
I had such a problem once. Turned out that my USB cable was broken, it could only charge but data-lines were inactive. I have no idea if Note uses the same line for both charging and data sync, but maybe it's not the phone - but the cable ?

Hello Dr!
So... i tried flashing ICS via mobile ODIN to try and see if it works - nothing. I tried a full wipe on stock GB - same.
I tried 3 different usb cables, and three comps - same same.
What i did notice now, is that if i keep trying to connect it for 20-30 times, it might work once out of those 30 and next time it won't work again.
hardware right ?
It seems to be hardware only.
But as you have to move to service centre, once make last try to flash using pc odin. N i think, which is requires for warranty purpose too.

Defective/dirty USB socket perhaps?
Could be. I really don't know what to think other than a faulty hardware. I tried blowing compressed air into the usb port. Other than changing the usb port assembly I don't see another way. I am with no warranty as well as I bought it from HK when they just came out and it is my understanding that Samsung only respects the warranty within the country the device is bought.

Compressed air usually unable to remove tar from pin
If you want to clean it, better use cotton soacked with spirit/petrol (after removing battery), as it evaporates rapidly. N let it dry completely.
Any update on your situation, mfractal?
Unfortunately no. I've tried cleaning the contacts but that also didn't help.
Thinking about trying to replace the usb charging port assembly but can't seem to find a dealer that sells it. Also not sure it'll help....

That's a bummer.
My commiserations, mate.
I still hope you'll sort it out in the end.
Thanks bud. Once I locate that usb port assembly ill try to replace it.

Dude, I too had such an issue earlier, but what I did was, I tried installing an application @ the market named "USB Mass Storage Watcher" and as soon as I installed and configured so, I got my drive identified immediately. May seem pretty noob, but no harm in giving a try....
didn't work.... same as before, only charging.

[Q] Samsung Captivate USB issue

Hello everyone,
I've done quite a lot of searching, and I can find almost no one else with the same issues.
Basically, when I plug in the phone via usb, the computer will not recognize the device. I have tried every mode (mass storage, kies, usb debug, etc). However, it will charge. I have tried several cables, including those I know transfer data. When I try to put it into mass storage mode, I do not get a notification on the notification bar telling me to mount the SD or USB storage. I'm not sure if this is a hardware & software issue, or just one of the two.
I work in IT, so I'm not new to repairing hardware or software. Just trying to find SOME leads. The guy who owned this before me didn't do a great job of putting the phone back together when he tried to repair the screen (has a greenish tint, thought it was a loose connection but it may just be defective or needs to be cleaned. Either way, not my concern as of right now).
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated
PS I have tried SEVERAL drivers on SEVERAL computers, Win7, Win8, OSX Lion, Lubuntu 12.10
Also tried putting the phone in Download mode to see if Odin/heim-something or other would recognize it, no luck.
Wondering if the usb isn't fully connected to the port, and if I should take off the back housing, plug it in, and see if it works that way?

Other than charging, when you connect to a pc do you get a device malfunction message in windows? We know the +5v and ground work since it charges so if you get the malfunction message in windows its a short in the data pins. If there is no message, just charging and no reaction from the phone other than the charging indicator, I'd say there is no contact to one or both data pins. I'd look in the micro usb port to make sure the pins are straight (and there lol) and if it looks dirty, use a shot of crc electronic cleaner in the port (battery out and screen facing up).
Of coarse this is if it isn't software related which it very well could be, but sounds more hardware related to me....

Yep, that's exactly what pops up. I can't see very well right now (at work, have no magnifying glass here). I remember a long time ago having a couple bent data pins in my old BlackBerry Curve lol, ended up popping em back in. Hopefully, that will be the same case here.
I appreciate the quick reply, wasn't even thinking of that :fingers-crossed:

No problem:good: Good luck!!:fingers-crossed:
On a slightly-unrelated note, did some browsing and came up with this quick question.
Is there anyway to root the Captivate on 2.3.5 without PC connection? (I can send files to the phone via an external SD, just can't use Super One Click etc right now).
If not, couldn't I just flash back to 2.2 using recovery(stock, but as long as the update.zip signed correctly[will be stock firmware so I don't see why it wouldn't] it should work right?) and use z4root?
Well, to follow up:
I see no broken or misplaced pins, it all looks correct to me. I will try to upload a photo tonight.
In the meantime, I managed to brick (I think). Accidentally installed the wrong kernel from my SD (speedmod, which I forgot was for Froyo). Now I have CWM, but I cannot mount via usb still, and since I can't access the external sd from cwm, I'm stuck either in recovery mode or stuck at the Samsung screen.
Anyone have any ideas besides just setting it aside for a paper weight?

Does that version of cwm have the option to flash from ext sd? Go to install zip in cwm and see if there is the option to flash zip from extsd. If so, then you should be all set putting the right kernel or rom on your ext sd and flash away. Not sure I'm the best person to answer your question, but I would start there I guess.

Just to verify, you have tried these particular usb drivers? http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-I897#USB_Drivers

U can't get Root for a Captivate running Android 2.3.5 without a proper working micro usb port.
U can't flash back to Stock Froyo without a proper working micro usb port. (Unless u had Root already and then u could use Mobile Odin from the Play Store).
Only update.zip files signed by Samsung would work in the Stock 3e Recovery.
Stock Eclair had the 2e Recovery that did not require the signature verification.
Sounds like u need a new micro usb port.
Did u take a read at this thread...Captivate - PC Connection Issues...
If that thread is no help then it probably is a hardware issue. :/

1. Yes, actually you can. It's a temp root, but it works (how else would I have been able to flash the wrong kernel). I forget the apk I used, not on market anymore. I think it was like Mizu m9 or something, actually worked was kind of surprised.
2. Stock 3e is nbd now, I can boot into CWM 2.5.1.0 [which does have boot from ext-sd, but it either says it can't mount it or no files found. Not sure if its a version issue, if I could mount it and access the files on the ext-sd somehow this would all be solved and I'd love you guys <3
Yeah, I looked into the new USB port thing.I've tried every driver known to man lol. I think I'll end up getting the port repaired from that one website that was suggested, I think its $35 or so no big deal.
But can anyone confirm that CWM 2.5.1.0 can read an ext-sd? It's odd, because I assume on the captivate it gets mounted at /sdcard/external_sd, and when I look for a zip file to flash from the sd, I can see that folder, but trying to go into it just causes the message "no files found"
Gonna check this meizu m9 root method out.... hmmm...

Go for it, once installed it's pretty straight forward lol. But make you you dl the superuser app from the market (I did it before, just in case that matters). Mobile odin worked fine, adb wireless worked fine, etc.
But I just tried partitioning my SD card, and it still won't read in CWM. I tried mounting /sd-ext but every time I do it just says Error: can't mount
Yeah...i'm just curious as to how that root method works...since a method like that (gaining Root without having to use a connection to a pc) has never been done before with the Captivate since its release.

I'm not really sure, I didn't think it would work but it did...not sure what exploit it uses either. Did you try it? Wanted to check if it was just my phone or others too...

Nope...haven't tried it, but am definately gonna check into it. I will post back if it works or not (if i decide its ok to try) when i can...

Gotcha, sounds good. Yeah not too sure if it's safe or not, was just trying anything.
On another note, what format does my SD card need to be in to be read by CWM Recovery? I had it set to exFat, Fat32, and ext2/fat32 and I still isn't being read or able to mount :\.
I was gonna say FAT32 full format as i have read that suggested by others, but looks like u tried that. The card may be bad...idk for sure though.
(Btw...would u mind attaching a copy of the meizu m9 root apk ? Thx.)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I may try fat32 again. Interesting though, I had a zip of another version of CWM on the INTERNAL SD which I CAN access.
When I install that (not really install it, just run it), I can mount sd-ext but not /sdcard/ lol...says it's busy...I'm starting to think this is a permissions issue more than anything.....
Sure, it's on my dropbox I can just download it quick and upload it here.
EDIT: idk what's with the extension on the file, should just put it on an sd card and install fine.
I have EXACTLY the same issue x0ne215, has you managed to resolve this issue? Or just replaced microusb?

The M9 root method did work afaik. That being said, it's not safe at all to flash with a broken USB port.
