Hiding Status Bar - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Themes and Apps

Hi all, I am trying to find a way to hide the system bar.
on my SGT 10.1, HoneyBar used to work (you can hide the bar by clicking a space specified by the application, with offset and introduction modes)
However, the same application does not work on my SGT 7.7
Anyone got other solutions?

I use HideBar.

Thanks, quite some good tool there (especially the hidden back button). Although there's quite a bit of lag after I tried to do the unhide action. (but it happens on HoneyBar as well).

Honeybar works well for me

not working for me, everytime i click "hide status bar" nothing happens any suggestions?

It would be great if an app can hide the bar while playing video's

You can use mx video player.
It will automaticaly hide status bar.

HideBar didn't work well on my tab. (gt-p6810 imported from HK)
I can "hide status bar", but afterwards, never show it again.
What's the difference between others and me?
Anyway, I purchased HoneyBar
and that seems working well for now.

I've just checked it and found HoneyBar can work with both Dice and mVideoPlayer.
I could watch videos with true fullscreen without any problems,
there are some people who say HoneyBar didn't work from the start, though.
Android market has 15min refund window,
you can try on your own

Thanks, I didnt get the Tab yet.. waiting for later batches. The ones we have in my country seems to be a bit problematic.

Honeybar, Diceplayer & aspect ratios
So I also tried Honeybar with my brand spanking p6800 (ZSLA2 Hong Kong firmware) and confirm it effectively hides the status bar in all the places/apps I've tried it so far: Diceplayer, stock browser, gallery & home screen. If I discover somewhere it doesn't work I'll advise but so far so good. No issues at all un-hiding the bar - just tap the invisible spot bottom centre edge of screen.
Most useful usage for me - for web-browsing where screen space is at a premium. Easily worth the $1 for that alone.
I was actually most interested in it for use with video, and it certainly works as intended there but for me the effect was very subtle:
(i) hiding the already virtually invisible "movie mode" blacked out status bar with its tiny dark grey function locator dots (bar is of course more visible in a pitch black room, so more benefit there); and
(ii) as it frees up the space used by the status bar the video image is theoretically able to "expand" to occupy that space. No doubt this is a great benefit for those who like fill the frame or have 1.6:1 source material. But for me much of my sources are 16:9 and I prefer to run in native aspect i.e. black bars above and below the image. So in this case all hiding the status bar achieved was move to the video frame very slightly down the screen (without changing its aspect, or raw pixel width or height) so that the video image remained centered between the upper and lower bounds of the now slightly increased vertical accessible screen area.
Probably a bit too much detail there but hopefully useful for someone.
PS: currently flicking through a 7.5Mb/s rip of episode one from my Bluray box set of BBC Frozen Planet and it is... stunning.

Hmmm, I spoke too soon. So the above was all accurate - when Honeybar was working fine. Unfortunately Honeybar just started being temperamental.
It stopped hiding the bar for a while no matter what I did, including closing in application manager and reopening the app. Then after disabling and re-enabling within the honeybar app started working again. Now stopped again...
Now working again after closing it in application manager then reopening. I'll see if I can discern a trend...

Maybe restarting the device helps?
Should be reported as a bug to the developer though..

Can honeybar offset change from middle left to middle right?
I cant hit the select icon on portrait mode. cuz the offset is midde left will cover over it..

I am using hide bar from this thread and it works. I am rooted btw. Using Arc media for streamimg and it is great!

CM7 Status Bar Force Close

The past few days I've been getting a "Status Bar" force close which means the notifications bar completely disappears, including the main Android buttons in Tablet Tweaks.
Going into the settings and toggling top status bar or bottom status bar doesn't bring it back, nor does going into Manage Applications and clicking Force Stop on the status bar.
Has anyone run into this issue and been able to fix it without rebooting?
Haven't had the issue in a while (knock on wood), but it always recovered pretty quick (a few seconds later). Have you tried disabling "disable fullscreen"? That seems to have helped out. I found toggling all the buttons in the Tablet Tweaks area fixed a lot of things...
I had the same issue yesterday. After playing with WIFI setting several times, the status bar suddenly force closed and was not able to recover. I had to reboot the Nook.
Same issue here. My status bar will occasionally force close when playing around with one specific widget (Pure Messenger). Sometimes it will come right back and sometimes it doesn't and nothing outside of rebooting will fix the problem.
Has anyone come up with a solution that doesn't require a reboot?
Same, restarts sometimes, other tines it doesn't come back. You could use Hot Restart rather than reboot but otherwise...

App in the market, it's a widget that you tap and it'll offer to "hot restart", ie: Restart Android. It's a little faster than a full reboot.
You could try adding the open/close status bar shortcut to your homescreen. Long press on home screen->launcher actions->open /close status bar.
I've started using Taker on my NC and I've found every time I open it, Status Bar crashes, and about half the time doesn't come back... Meh.

The default ADWLauncher has it, although it interacts very strangely with the double-chevron "allow fullscreen" soft-button control (diddles the same API, perhaps?). Just added it, so I haven't had time for a status bar crash since.
Rotating never worked for me, but the "Notification Restart" app worked maybe a couple of times, but hasn't the last few instances.

Unfortunately the status bar show/hide shortcut trick doesn't work if the status bar itself is well and truly gone. So far only a reboot has brought it back reliably.
In other news though, I've recently removed the Elixir widget from my home screen and gone to manually turning on/off the WiFi and that seems to have improved things for me. YMMV

I just upgraded to n102, no OC, and almost immediately got three instances of the status bar turning invisible, but still working (the screen space is still reserved but blank, the buttons work, you just can't see them), and rotating the screen fixes that problem. Smells like a missed repaint of some kind.
No complete crashes yet.

They are not. The native B&N ebook reader can hide it and go completely fullscreen. We just need to find out how it is done.
EDIT: I have searched B&N developer documentation for some API how to enable/disable bottom system bar and found only following message
Note NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ do not support true full screen mode. The bottom system bar always displays. Therefore, the NOOK "n" key is the home button and not the back key since the system bar contains a back key that always displays.

This means it will be either unsupported hack or the documentation is wrong. At least the "back key that always displays" part is not true. I've seen the bar without back button
Additionally it appears that both home launcher and ebook reader can also add search box to the bottom system bar so it is not ordinary android system bar (or is it?). OTOH when media player is playing the design of system bar is same as stock ICS (black bar with dots in usual places).

I'm sure it can be modified, but are you sure you want to? It can be painful to have to "home" for every "back". Anyway, it will have to be a hack in /system, which means recompiling, putting in the /data/su directory and symlinking, and hoping it doesn't bork the system!
Part of the reason I got the nook hd is that you get the whole screen while reading. It is quite annoying to have the bar but in every android device I've used, you don't get the full screen. But the Nook HD screen is 16:10 so in landscape movies are ok as 16:9 is the typical encoding.

I can confirm this app does work. But you need the paid version. Status bar hiding only works in the paid version. And I had trouble with the multitouch gestures, so I switched it to phone mode instead of tablet and single finger geatures were enabled. And that made it work well. And nothing apparently was written to /system to cause a reset.

The GMD gesture control works fine. Only drawback is that every time I use it to hide the bar it also removes the wallpaper from both stock and apex launchers.
Also, just found that Asphalt 7 from play store, that normally crashed before loading, plays fine with the bar hidden.
You loose the wallpaper because the way that GMD uses to hide the bar is kill the SystemUI service.
I used that method before on my Touchpad and it did work, but it is a little nasty.
Since CM10 you can hide the bar (Expanded Desktop) so it is a better alternative than GMD.
I use an app called Hide Bottom Bar. Much easier to activate than GMD. You can activate it from the notification panel or via widget. Also it doesn't kill your wallpaper. And you can access a soft key pop up with a one finger swipe from the bottom similar to Button Savior but without a persistent visible toggle. Very convenient. Only drawback is that it is not free.
I tested all previously recommended possibilities. No one suits for my needs. But ... i used TSF Shell launcher and TSF MIUI theme for starting theming phone my way. TSF Shell have possibilities to hide all stuff, that you get blank screen. I dont tested it yet on Nook but i will do this on next week.
Actually i have not ended my Nook HD+ theming (based on original Nook HD+ theme), running on CM10 and CM10.1. I hope i have time to end it this week and post it here too.

I just gave this a try. Found that unfortunately it does kill the wallpaper when I tried it.
Is there a way to add a "Home" soft key to the navigation bar (as in CM or standard Android navigation bars)?
Use Handy Soft Keys instead
Handy Soft Keys: It is a free app using which you will get navigation bar at any convenient position along the edges of the screen by drag and drop.

[Q] Grey Navigation Bar on Nook HD

I have had a savage hatred for Google's idea of softkeys (while loving Button Saviour's) ever since HC dropped on us with the Xoom. Is this method of getting rid of the navigation bar viable on the Nook HD? I read from the guides that the Nook was "sensitive" but am too dumb to know what this means.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985592
Currently on 2.0.5 rooted with GApps but no location.
Do not try. Will do 8 boot, restore. Seems most anything related to /system will cause this.
Despite this limitation I still hate the Nexus 7 enough to stick with the NookHD
I have the same/similar problem with the grey toolbar. I have used LeapinLar's excellent guide for getting CWM on the nook and it works very well indeed. The only problem is that when running BSplayer/Moboplayer/Mxplayer etc the nook home grey bar doesn't disappear when playing a video.
The grey bar does go black but the screen doesn't expand to make use of the extra space that the stock nook video player uses. Is there a setting that makes the grey bar slide away like on the stock video player? If one player can do it hopefully the other player can be made to do the same, but I can't find a setting that allow this?
Cheers

There is no setting to do what you want. And the bar turning black with tiny white dots is called "lights out" mode. It is to fool you into thinking it is gone. It is a "feature".
They only way to get the bar to disappear is with third party software like "GMD gesture control". That particular one is a paid software.
Sent from my HD+ running CM10 on SD with XDA Premium
You can try a free application called "full!screen" to hide the gray toolbar.
This should work with any CM10. I wrote it for my TouchPad and it also works on my HD2
ToggleBarCM10.apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1555097&d=1355245239
full!screen needs access to system tools. Will this result in me never being able to let the tablet die for want of battery or rebooting? GMD GestureControl also requests the access to "modify system settings".
I'm fine with never turning it off but I am wondering if there are other ways that the 8loop bootloop can occur. I mostly use the Nook for satisfying an 18 year old habit of reading TIME magazine so I would prefer to be on stock rather than switch back and forth.
It really is weird...I can't eat cereal without reading last week's news on TIME
Man, I messed up that edit!
I will repeat.
It is ok to change system settings, just not /system. System settings is in /data.
Neither GMD or full!screen change /system.
Earlier I found full!screen did not work, but now it does.
Oh, it is a new version, that's is why it works now... and I just rebooted and no issues. It is awesome.
Sent from my BNTV400 using Tapatalk
CM10 already contains the code to switch the bar on and off, it is call expanded desktop.
It is usually accessed through the power menu but some builds don't have that option enabled, still the "logic" (finishAnimationLw()) inside the android.policy.jar is always there and can be "activated" using a simple setting on the system database.
Not sure about the "new" fullscreen app, but the way GMD used to hide the bar was killing the systemui service.
"ToggleBarCM10.apk" just updates the setting db switching the value on and off, it doesn't do anything else. It's not going to affect /system.
I've been doing that for quite a long time on the TouchPad and other devices with CM9 and CM10.
Search for "No way to hide the bottom bar in CM9" and you will would find the thread in Rootzwiki with a lot of more info about it

Immersive mode

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has found a way to get full immersive mode.
I know you can hide the navbar but I'd love to hide the status bar as well and make it so that apps go around the camera hole.
I don't want to hide the hole but want to put the whole screen up so that I don't see in every app the time and all the status bar icons. Thanks a lot!
I want that too, but apparently no app is able to do that on my Galaxy S10. Hope to see that feature available soon!

Yes, of course
Please send immersive mode requests to Samsung via feedback, or by emailing them. Right now the adb commands create annoying black bars instead of extending the screen.
I currently don't have my S10 yet, but use 'SystemUI Tuner' on my OnePlus 6 to do immersive mode.

Technically you could remove the black back by going into Settings>Display>Full Screen apps and selecting all to be full screen instead of auto. However this makes removing the status bar useless since even though you don't get the black bar you still do get a bar that's the color of the app. Green for whatsapp for instance. So you're not actually getting any more screen real estate, just hiding the status bar which I find it easier to do through adb instead of any other app which requires you to give more permissions hence to type more in the terminal.
I'm looking for a way to hide the status bar and have the screen go up and around the camera cutout, just like it works on any other phone which doesn't have a camera cutout

I opened myself 2 threads about this on xda and one on reddit XD this is soooooooo important to me but no one seems to really care about it much! no one could help how can it be, that folks buy a S10 because of it's infinity display which has very little top and side bezels but are completely fine with a huuuuuuuge statusbar that's just a software bezel because of the bad software.... don't get me started about the possible burn in issues or uneven wear.
the usual adb command don't work
Sammy's own settings in the settings app where you can choose between automatic and fullscreen does nothing
the only thing that worked for me was app cloner so far. I cloned apple music, relay, spotify and tumblr and the difference that it makes is soooo huge!!!! Sammy has to do something about this. Getting all that space back, seeing the content scroll behind and around the punch hole and up to the frame which let's you notice how thin the top bezel really is.... yes on most apps some element get's get blocked by the punch hole, but if you are familiar with the app and know that there is something you can still touch it and it works, or what I do is, triggering one handed mode for a second pressing it and move on. for me that would work. Sammy should put a disclaimer saying, can cause some issues with certain apps and let us use all the apps we wan't in fullscreen/immersive mode. It sure does look better and that's the way I'm gonna be using my S10 after rooting.
please if you have more tips how to get immersive mode, let me know.

Hi I don't understand why app cloner makes a difference. Can you explain?

Yes of course! like I mentioned before I always use my apps in immersive mode but for once I own a device that's not rooted yet and therefore hasn't a dozen of custom roms with the ability to tweak settings. And because the usual adb commands do nothing I remembered that app cloner had a bunch a display settings which you can mess with. And viola! It has an option to flag apps as immersive mode apps and it actually works! It seems to use a different hook/way to force apps into immersive mode and the result is just beautiful!!! Now you can really enjoy the Display of the S10.
Let me tell ya, after using apps in immersive mode for a hot minute and going back to the stock way sammy intended for us to use the S10, I have to say sammy did only a half hearted job on this. Yeah hardware side is nice but the software side is lacking and not utilizing the hardware. It seems like they didn't now any better and settled on a huge arse statusbar. Maybe because this isn't iOS where developers can develop for specific hardware not like on android.
The Downside? some elements do get in the way and require some kind of a workaround. In this case I settled on using one handed mode which brings the top half part of the screen down revealing those blocked elements by the punch hole. This works so far very good and I'm already used to it. Some elements peak out behind the punch hole so you already know there is something, in this case you can still touch that area because even the punch hole has a digitizer in that area.
S10+amoled theme+Substratum black theme+apps in immersive mode= In my opinion the best way to use this device and forget/never notice punch hole ever.
This should be a bigger deal and more people should talk about this. xda should cover this on the Frontpage.

Can't hide it in chrome.
Some games go full screen, some don't.
You can get apps that hide it, not tried any though
it seems to be app dependant.

Well that's a pain in the ass
Maybe I'm missing something but isn't that where the hole punch camera is? Without that wouldn't you have a hole in the app that obstructs the picture? I wish all apps did that.

It's down the game developer to choose what they do. As someone has said it would mean the hole punch is in the way. Wouldn't be great for all games
I've been finding the height of the status bar (as well as the black bar) pretty annoying.
I'm sure there will be a way to get around this (i.e. immersive mode) - might require root though

Google removed the wm overscan function in Android 11, so ADB command and immersive mode don't work without root.
The hight of the status bar is the only thing I don't like about this phone. Makes look cheap.
It's as thick as the notch on the iPhone!
My Note 10's status bar hight is 40% thinner than the Pixel 5. I think if Google had the front camera at the centre instead of the corner of the screen the status bar could be thinner.
Hopefully there will be a non root method soon.
So there's still no way to force all apps to display full screen?
There's a lot phones with the same camera hole, but going full screen as a charm! Its a bad idea to say, its up to game developers. A lot games have nothing in the camera place, but still have a cut black line in landscape mode. And only on the pixel. Im ready to root, but don't know how to get rid of that cut. How to force full screen in landscape?
I'll be waiting for a non root method...
