[Q] Note doesn't get updates - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know there are many threads asking the same question, and I've looked through many, but still haven't find an answer to my problems.
Just to clarify, my phone is not rooted, nor flashed, and I'm planning to leave it that way as long as possible, unless I really can't find any other solution for upgrading my phone
I've bought my phone in December, sim free, at mobile phone store in Serbia, and judging by the manuals language that I got in the box, its most likely imported from Hungary.
As soon as I've powered it on and connected to internet, I've got an update (OTA), which I installed as soon as I got home and plugged the phone to charger. Since then, I haven't got a single update, whenever I manually check I get "No updates!", and Kies says I have latest firmware, but im stuck on KK5 :S
It not big deal for now (even though I see that many people report improvements in newer firmwares, and I would also like that), but what about the ICS upgrade that will come in next month or two ?
Is there any way to force update, without flashing it manually or rooting the phone, or I'm stuck with this for good?
Is there anyone I can contact regarding this question who can give me any estimations ? Who is responsible for updates for sim free phones ?

If samsung have not still released new Firmware for your area, you won't get it.
Samsung never announce regarding release date for any ROM, Any region. You have to just wait till you get it.
Nobody can give you exact date of ICS release. wat we hearing is you can consider as Rumor.
You have always option to update your device manually. You can find all details in links of my signature.
May be CEO samsung Mr. H. B. Lee can answer, but i dont know how to contact

Thanks for your reply!
Well, I've read all your tutorials for now, and I will use them when I decide to start with rooting + flashing
What about that region changing ? There is no possibility to change region and get updates ?

Ya, you can change the region, but you'll wipe your phone.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
my 'about phone' is exactly the same as OPs, to the last detail. My handset was bought in the UK, and is unrooted as yet.
I'm on XEU csc and as far as I'm aware, I SHOULD have had an update by now? yet it still has not arrived. is this normal for a UK note XEU with KKA kernel/ KK5 baseband?
many thanks.

So its totally safe, and I will get updates for sure if I do that ?
My warranty wont be void ?
How do I do that, and what is the best region to choose ?

@turshija
i am also still on KK5. I am not sure what you expect from new update. Until official ICS update, you only can expect some small things, like safety patches. What i red on forums, latest update have only changes on keyboard (added numbers), and for me its not something special.
You will lose your warranty if you root your SGN, and i agree with you to not flash the phone during warranty period. Its not so cheap toy
On other hand, when i bought my alternative phone 2 years ago (HTC HD2), i installed Android after few days, because Windows made me felling like a grandfather. I am still playing with my HD2 after few hundreds times flashed ROMs, and now i am on ICS...and still enjoying my HD2 flashing and playing )), but comparing with SG Note, HD2 must be alternative phone
P.S. - We have absolutely the same version of SGN

@turshija and @tanzemyu, I too have identical version to you. Mine was bought from carphone warehouse in UK. At the last OTA upgrade (to 2.3.6 KKA) my phone wasn't rooted at the time, and I got it OTA - but a couple of weeks after the update was announced for carrier-free phones. I think it's therefore likely that CPW are for some reason holding up the OTA upgrade.
When 2.3.6 was out but I hadn't got it OTA, I looked into trying to change my CSC in order to get the OTA update but I found that CPW have put a non-changeable sales code on my phone "CPW" and I don't have the option to change the CSC.
As I'm now rooted I'm going to flash the update myself when I get around to it (as I think you lose root if you do an OTA??) - but IF you also bought from Carphone Warehouse, it's maybe worth you waiting anther week or too just in case an OTA upgrade does eventually arrive (I can't see why it wouldn't?)

Mine is identical. And it's from phones4u.

Quick guide I knocked up for Mango update - Updated with Sideload unlock

If you fancy giving it a try, I've knocked a guide up as I did mine.
http://www.nakedcleaner.com/2011/06/omnia-7-mango-update/ for those that want to.
I've updated it to include the sideload unlock, there is another method using the Samsung Diagnostic tools, but that's more complex. However if anyone want's to know that method then shout and I'll write it up here.
nice!
Thats a very nice guide! thanks.
I have some few questions I hope you can answer for me.
1. My Omnia 7 is officially developerunlocked so I dont need to do all the things with the ChevronWP7.cer etc or? thats just the trick for those who cant get developerunlocked the officially way?
2. Do I have to do the "Remove Sideload Limit, and the Prevent Device From Relocking" when I have developer unlocked my device the officially way?
3. Is it correct understood that I can just jump over all in the beginning of the guide and go directly to the part "◦ OK, close Zune, we now need to install the beta version of Zune and the dev stuff......."?

Yup, if officially unlocked your good to go (skip all the stuff). Although the sideload limit might still be of note, as you probably have either a 3 (Student) or 10 (Normal dev) limit for sideloaded apps, that bypasses them. However the Mango update kills all the apps that use COM, so kinda useless for most homebrew at the moment anyhow.
shall try this out in the morning
thanks
Thanks. I have a question... after applying mango will you be able to enter download mode to flash an older firmware? does mango beta change your bootloader? This would be very interesting because it means that we can update without having any problem reverting back to stock roms!
Sorry for the OT but I just couldn't not-notice the interesting choice of wording for the topic - "knocked up".
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=knocked up
everything worked fine with the update(s), I am running Mango now, but it seems that Mango blocks all homebrew apps. The Samsung Tool cant be started anymore. A thing that could be good to mention also.

Thought everyone realised that Mango deactivates all Dev Unlocks. Only way to get it unlocked again is to....... Get an LG with the Reg Editor built in For now at least anyhow.
You can kind of go half way house, and get the first 'Mango' update, before the second update and HomeBrew still works with that. However that's just a prep update and not actually Mango, so most of the interesting features are missing.
I wonder, if we set the permissions on the registry key before the update so System cannot change it will we keep the DevMode? hmmm.. Might try 'knocking up' a little app to test that, That is as long as the WP7 registry supports permission set's like the Windows one... Anyone know?
Oh and updated the post to point out HomeBrew gets disabled for now.

Sorry about the dropbox link being turned off. I'm uploading them to my Host at the moment so those that need them grab them there.
is there any reason (i.e. functionality stuff) why I wouldn't want to update to mango?
Would be great to know thanks
Broken download mode ;-(
Hi mate,
I was on 3 Uk omnia 7, simunlocked and debrandded to T-mobile rom, nodo update.
I followed your guide to get mango update yesterday night which resulted in broken download mode for me.
I cannot access download mode anymore, when I press the key combination I get the USB connection screen (with phone, pc and a cable).
Any idea how to fix it?
Please help.
The worst part is that I actually did remove my ZUNE and installed devZune from the guide which killed my only chance to revert to old firmware ;-(
My bootloaders is now 4.10.1.9 which is said to be tha faulty one ;-(
In my opinion the problem is connected to the ROM version you suggested in your guide. As I do not have the JIG looks like I'm lost.
Maybe you should investigate this isssue not to let other people brake their devices...
Grab three 100k resistors in your local electro shop, they cost like few pennies and build a JIG. And reflash .
I just did ;-)
I've built my own JIG out of 301k resistor and old chinese car charger ;-)
reflashed to I8700 XEN I8700XENJK1
and download mode is back ;-)
I keep working on mango update following the guide...
I'll let you know the result later.
Wow
It`s a new phone now.
If you still haven`t updated - do it now.
I did have few problems during the update process but finally succeeded.
Thank you for the guide

I'm facing a problem !!
I'm stuck @ the NoDo update step. i'm trying to force NoDo using Chevron.WP7.updater but it keeps crashing as soon as I choose the language and press enter. I'm now stuck on 7008 update.
Can somebody help here please !
UPDATE : Reflashed with the UK retail ROM and i was able to recieve the NoDo update.
Running Mango now !!! and I'm loving it !!!!
Your post is gone?
Is there a way to dev unlock phone through diagnostics?
Or is that just the carry over from WP7 7.0?
hmmm. I had similar problem.
solved it by not using the chevron updater...
my idea:
0. remove all the wp7 dev software, devzune, all the tools provided in the guide. In my case I also had few crashes. install only the wp7 dev tools, DO NOT INSTALL force nodo fixes and tools...
1. try going to XENJK1 rom instead of the one provided in the guide. email yourself chevron cert, sideunlock the phone, try going to zune - in my case update was there waiting for me so I could update the regular way - chevron updater didn't work for me ;-(
2. remember to sideunlock the phone before every next flash and force it not to lock again (followed by reboot)
3. I had similar problem in the step where you go from nodo to pre mango - try playing with removing the pc software and tools, usb drivers etc. - it helped in my case.
Good luck!
I've just updated to Mango using these instructions.
http://www.redmondpie.com/install-w...evice-even-if-you-arent-a-developer-tutorial/
It took a while but was very straightforward.
Only got the phone yesterday lunchtime but am impressed by how it works so smoothly.

I've got it too. For some reason the drop down menu has changed to an uglier shade of yellow green, the colour of frog excrement.. Otherwise don't really notice significant changes. Samsung has layered the ui so much that it just looks like.. Well Samsung. Not very evident it's lollipop tbh
If anyone is manually flashing the ROM using ODIN, check your CSC beforehand. There are two different regions of NZ that Samsung released the update for, which are TNZ and NZC. If you flash the wrong CSC version, your CSC will turn to an unknown state meaning that you won't be receiving OTA updates in the future. I have the Taiwan version (BRI) and I flashed the NZC version and now the CSC state is unknown. It's still Lollipop, but you will have to manually flash every updates released from this point forward.

It must be how Samsung programmed its CSC for the ROM. When the official ROM comes out for your region, you can restore using Kies 3 or Smart Switch. Then, you will get OTA updates as usual like you did before.

weird, I flashed NZC (formerly had BRI) and mine was still BRI. I did some benchmarking and I guess it was a little "dirty" and was getting really low results. So I just went into recovery wiped data and cache. Now my device claims to be NZC and works flawlessly. Best of luck

Unresponsive touchscreen after Lollipop
Hi there guys,
After updating my Galaxy Note 4 n910U to Lollipop via OTA, the touchscreen just became unresponsive. The update went on smoothly and my phone booted fine and it's on Lollipop now. I can navigate normally using the screen through the S-Pen but it just would not respond to touch. Very frustrating. New device, been waiting for this update and this happens. Please help.
Thanks!

You could try factory reset in recovery followed by a cache wipe and a repeat factory reset. Flash the NZC firmware again. After flashing again go to recovery and do a factory reset followed by a cache wipe and another factory reset. Boot and check if you are able to still see the csc in unknown status.
thx for the tip,
I'll probably wait for the HK version of Lollipop and then go back to the original csc

I just checked my update at work and it's downloading now
Downloading on mine as well.
i'm using SmartSwitch on my PC to download it. Went to the Source from the Sammobile site and went to the option for downloading via PC. Installing now
Update: Update appears to provide all updates to 5.1.1 including Live Broadcast and other camera options we didn't get from 5.0.2. Icons are now typical Samsung 5.1.1 (cartoon-y). Adjustments from camera for brightness Up/Down are added. Samsung Pay added as well. Still looking around...

The 5.1.1 should added Samsung Pay app to your phone already. Look through your app drawer
Mine failed the first time. I had 2GB free. I cleared the cache which freed up another 3-4gb. The update timer said to wait 15 hours so I set clock ahead 1 day. It took the update this time and I'm on 5.1.1 now.
just fyi for future reference, those who don't want to wait another 24 hours or so can always update via SmartSwitch on the computer. download smartswitch, plug in your S6 Active, it detects your software version and whether you are on AT&T or T-Mobile it should still download. I'm on T-Mobile and thought I was going to have to wait for it but that SmartSwitch worked really well. Also it reminds you that if you are rooted you might have issues downloading and accepting the update.
PS The Samsung Pay works well, obviously through a Pin though. It should be in your app tray at the very end. I disabled a ton of apps prior to update, seems like I have MORE AT&T bloat now then I did before.

P8 LITE 2017 Firmware update fails!

Hello, im having issues with updating the firmware of my phone to a later version.
Current version is PRA-LX1C02B139, but after installing the new PRA-LX1C02B140 version, phone restarts and deletes the downloaded files, and stays at PRA-LX1C02B139.
Im a complete newbie to this, first "real" smartphone I ever got. Id like to avoid rooting, at least until my warranty is voided.
EDIT
The B140 update just rolled out, im expecting the rest to come out soon, and this one works
I have a problem too , i have middle east version i downloaded from carbon tesla b125 update ( im on b120 ) and i tryed to flash it, lt failed but when i reboot it gives me error msg that vérification has failed and choose to continue booting or going to recovery, hopefully its not a bootloop the phone works but every time i reboot i get that msg and it sucks i hate it lol
i've got my p8 lite 2017 today, and i've got the same problem, there's an update, but it does not install ... i've downloaded it completely, rebooted my phone ecc.
but the update ist not installed at all

I can answer, because the same happens to me .
From the settings menu, there is an update to the PRA-LX1C02B140 version.
You can download and update, but after restarting the phone, the current version of the phone is always PRA-LX1C02B139.
Mine is a brand Vodafone Italy.
The phone works perfectly, but it's annoying.
Greetings
hi, we can't upgrade with downloaded package like before....
The downloaded package can only be used to uncompress some files (like boot.img) but, not for restoring the firmware.
It seems that Huawei (or nougat related) introduce a validation while installing new firmware (wich is done when you make an OTA but not while using 3 buttons methods)
So maybe someone will discover something but for now, we have to live with OTA update.....
Hi there, I'm having exactly the same issue and I have a Vodafone Italy unit too. Additionally the phone keeps notifying me about the new version, which is really annoying. Any solutions?

Hello, im having issues with updating the firmware of my phone to a later version.
Current version is PRA-LX1C02B139, but after installing the new PRA-LX1C02B140 version, phone restarts and deletes the downloaded files, and stays at PRA-LX1C02B139.
Im a complete newbie to this, first "real" smartphone I ever got. Id like to avoid rooting, at least until my warranty is voided.

Same problem here! Any solution?
I have a solution... You need to make the update while having an Vodafone SIM card inside the phone...
Worked in my case, seems each operator might have slighty diferent updates.

Any chance you can ask for a worldwide fix? Bosnia and Herzegovina's Huawei team is a bunch of kids who fix everything by turning it off and on again..

Question S23 SM-S911U1 stock rom Needed ASAP

Hello I received a Samsung Galaxy S23 from a friend today. He was having problems with the device stuck in a boot loop and unable to get past the Samsung startup screen, so I decided to flash it for him as a failed attempt to help a friend and get some $ in return. The device identifies as a SM-S911U1 , which I am led to believe it is an unlocked US version. Therefore, if there is any OTHER ROM I could flash as long as it should work, I'm willing to ADB and try it out and post results.. thank you in advance.
So he should have sent it to warranty (if he wasn't messing around and cause that).
Currently, the firmware for the S911U1 has not been published

I've successfully flashed it using Odin with a US cellular rom but it shows up now as a "U" deviIce. In other words the modelnow shows in about phone as SM-S911U instead if the original SM-S911U1. I now have the proper file to flash MY device ( he gave it to me for a amazing price as i found out its a demo device and he got it from his job but thats another issue as now i need help fixing the IMEI and seeimg if it even has cellular capabilities ....) my only question right now is if i flash the device with a "U1" file now instead of a "U" file will i brick the phone?? I am curremtly going to attempt it using the file that was told to me about by "realbbb" (thank you BTW!) that is available on frija and see if it bricks the device or if it fixes my cellular issues and activates the modem to use with a SIM card now. Hope all goes well.

Hello and thank you very much for this info. i been busy lately and just was able to come across your post today and am going to try it right now. Also if you would happen to know about the whole 'U' device vs. 'U1" device thing I would greatly apricate it. Also please refer to my previous reply I did to "windows4droid" about me flashing the device and it now showing up as a "SM-S911U Galaxy S23 instead of a "SM-S911U1" device as it had originally been when I first received the phone. Thank you so very much. I'm going to try to flash the phone right now with the file you suggested to me and hope it can revert back to the original model now that it doesn't have the factory live demo mode on it anymore (that's the original reason the device was not working and stuck in a bootloop because my friend had tried to remove the demo mode from the phone and messed it up the first time...) I dont have screen shots of what was originally on the device but this is what is now on it since i flashed it myself. heres some screenshots so yall can see whats going on and whats on the phone currently.

I understand that WWD is a DEMO CSC. Flash U or U1 firmware. I would run with U1.
The missing IMEI's are also an indication of a demo device. Flashing anything other than the original imei is prohibited (be careful) and getting a valid unused imei/imei(esim) will be a pain with a newly released series. Flash a donor imei and/or imei(esim) to use.
Hopefully the demo device is not defective or incomplete.
