[Q] Rooted unit with market problems - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got this unit, relatively cheaply, in china. I realised it was rooted on two items: superuser was installed, and when keeping the start button depressed it came up with some chinese menu for shutdown, even though the os language was set to english.
I could set up my google account without problems, but i couldnt access the market. It was as if they used a short cut with an android market icon. Having said that, when i went to the market website online, i couldnt sign in on that. My non rooted htc phone has no problems accessing the market.
Interestingly, when i connected to wifi it popped up a softwarenudate notification, which it couldnt download due to absence of a SIM card (i didnt put my sim card in it yet)
Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?

What is your usage location?
what version of ROm you have? (setting - about phone)
you have to see there
baseband version ?
Build version?
Kernel version ?

Right, i managed to get the market working by performing a factory reset.
Baseband version=N7000XXKJ6
Kernel=2.6.35.7-N7000ZSKK1-CL706440
Build=GINGERBREAD.ZSKK1
Right now i found that the problems i ave with this build, is that any firmware updates cannot be installed (i get a registration error message, and yes, i did register the unit with samsung).
It also contains several chinese apps that i cannot uninstall and are a nuisance.
One is called 360-something (its in chinese which i dont read), another one is called Gexin. Both apps actually report new messages.
There is also a QQ security app running (i know QQ is very popular in asia).
Ideally id like to have a UK or US original firmware, so i can update to ICS when it comes out in the next month or so. But a modified US orUK rom would probably do as well if necessary.

You can get all available ROM here

download my guide from signature (last link), if any assistance need to update ROM

Which firmware should I flash on my new SGS?

My new SGS just got delivered today, bought it brand new from ebay, it is unlocked but from orange so there are a few orange bloatware apps like maps etc, not happy with these and want them gone but after trying kies it says my firmware cannot be updated (maybe due to being branded)?
Anyway just wondering which of the unofficial firmwares to flash from the samsung-firmwares website, I understand they come with certain files that may put phone into russian or make it so market does not work properly, some advice on this matter would be appreciated, I'm in UK if that helps. Cheers lads.
Oh and my current versions are
PDA I9000XXJF3
PHONE I9000XXJF3
CSC I9000RAJE5
Hi Davey,
I've just done mine for the first time tonight. I used firmware JG1, but used the CSC file suggested on the main thread firmware thread (cant do a link, forum wont let me).
A couple of notes - I originally tried using a front USB port on my machine and it stuck on file analysis. Worked better when I plugged it in round the back. Secondly, mine showed up on COM5 not 7 as in the guides but it seemed to make no difference.
Good luck!
Cheers pal, jsut wondering have you had any issues with the firmware you used? Russian language? Paid apps not showing up in market? Thanks.
No russian as long as you use the separate CSC firmware (CSC_I9000OXXJF9), and no other issues other than swype crashing the first time I tried to use (restarted the phone, problem solved).
Some apps arent showing up though in market, and I think a root is needed to fix it unfortunately. Not a big deal though - if you're willing to attempt the firmware, than I doubt rooting is a particularly big deal.
I'm in a similar position. T-Mobile UK, galaxy to arrive tomorrow.
I've seen several people complaining about lag on the phone until a firmware upgrade. Could someone point me to a post/website that gives a list of the latest firmwares and a step-by-step guide to installing them on the phone.
Thanks
same here, i have found a few rooting + firmware article from other websites / blogs.
however I only trust the guides from XDAdevelopers

http://www.samsung-firmwares.com (register, login and select "i9000" from the list, the firmware files and guides are on the same page, as are the links to dowload the required tools).
I am on UK T-Mobile and have followed these videos in the order listed and have had no problems doing so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzFE8-jWku0
The above is to update the firmware, the only thing I did that was not on the video was to use a different CSC file (Not the Russian one, I used CSC_I9000OXXJF9), doing it this way, I had no problems with using Swype as some have reported.
I then applied Paul's Custom ROM R2 from Modaco (Great Job) - the update roots the phone so you do not have to. It is all worth it as now my GPS, Wifi and speed all work wonderfully. the video of how to update the Custom Rom is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uakGtQKmHNM
Remember to restart the phone after updating the firmware and also after updating the Custom ROM. Also make sure that you have installed the latest version of Samsung's KIES software which contains the drivers needed for the SGS. Also if you carry out this part, make sure you copy the update.zip file to the internal memory card for update to work as it fails to read from the external one.
I did all this on a Notebook running Vista 32bit without any problems.

Pre-Update, Research of Chinese Galaxy S

Dear all
I write this post as I hope to get some input and some expert suggestions on the course of action I should take with my phone.
For many years I have been supplied with a phone through my company but it seems to be always the crappy old Nokia. Good for making telephone calls but worthless for anything else.
So recently I bought a Galaxy S on a business trip to China. I love the phone, it works and by now I have almost no Chinese letters and applications left anymore. This is really something else; I'll never go back to the company Nokia. Never!
I think most of the applications are working and I have access to the Android Marked. However, Youtube is not installed or working and I think that the GPS is a little off.
Now I read a lot about Froyo and I bet I would want to get that on my phone, I am also pretty sure that I want to get the phone totally de-Chinese and preferably into something Danish or at least English.
What do I do next?
I have been reading so much on this site that I am getting dizzy. Flashing, rooting, updating, kies(hey, I actually got it working now (again) ) Odin, JM1, JPK etc.
Now my phone has the following;
ProductCode: I9000HKDVD2
PDA: I9000XXXXX
Phone: I9000BUJG1
CSC: I9000GVD2JG1
SalesCode: VD2
Reading through posts on this forum I never saw anyone with the same codes as mine.
Model number: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR
As mentioned, I bought the phone in China and I have no idea if it is branded (with Google printed on the back cover) has been unlocked, but I suspect it has. It has been rooted (I have a little black ninja guy giving Superuser Permission) and there is a folder-like icon named "root(and some Chinese letters)"
Well, as I said I have Kies running again. First it was running fine then it stopped connecting to the phone and now after unmounting the external SDcard I can again access the phone from my PC.
Through Kies I can do a firmware update. But should I?
Will it be re-locked?
Will it get all the Chinese stuff back?
Will it somehow be converted into a European phone?
Should I wait for the official Froyo or just go ahead and update?
I can update again when the Froyo finally arrive?
Do I need to make backup of any of my "system" files before doing anything?
Any help suggestions and/or warnings will be appreciated.
If you can do an upgrade through Kies it will aslo tell you what the update is (JG2 for example) since you have what I gues is a chine salescode, you will probably get a chinese update .. What you can do, is goint to the devlopers section and read the topic about spoofing your productcode in the registry so Kies thinks you have phone from another provider / country than that what you have now
I am almost certain that if you can enter an old danish firmware in the registry and a danish productcode you will get offeren a new new danish firmware through kies ..This will not relock your phone ( if it was locked before) as far as I know only the froyo builds will do that.
I have been reading some more on the forum and found that the phone is actually branded.
Model [Country of Origin](Branded Phone Carrier) = Code
I9000 [Germany](Vodafone) = GT-I9000HKDVD2
I have also checked out the 3-button combo which seems to be disabled on my phone. I'll get this fixed before doing anything.
So I want to update to the froyo release and will probably be uding the Kies hack to do this. I'll use the XEE code which I believe will give me the danish language as an option.
Do I need to make backup of some of the system files before doing this?
In some poste there is talk about backing up some system files before upgrading as there is some information which is needed to unlock the phone again.
Well. I am still investigation this issue.
Now I am looking into using odin and firmware from samfirmware . com. Probably to JPA or JPO? Then I have been reading about the DocRambone ROM and will probably try that.
However they suggest to "- Check Simlock and Network lock is OFF *#7465625#". When I do this I am promted with a "Rejected" message.
Can anybody please tell me what this means?
I do not want to start messing with it before I know that the phone will not be locked after flashing to new firmware?
If it will be locked then what is the procedure of unlocking anagin. I have already made backup of the "nv_data.bin.md5" and the "nv_data.bin". Having these files is the same as having backup of the /efs? Reason for asking is that I cannot find /efs on the root of my phone.
Please help!

[Q] Samasung Galaxy S Anycall Korean Phone Problem

**I know I'm creating a new thread when there is already a consolidated thread for this model**
I've been searching the net for the answers to my problems and i've often found myself founding my key words mashed up in the middle of the Samsung Anycall thread and trying to look for the answer a few pages after intertwined topics. Please create a subforum for SHW-110s, I've spent two days scanning the entire thread and to be honest my brain stopped working after the third page I've read.
Enough about my ranting, here are my problems... I got this phone but all I got from the person who gave it to me is its charger and its case.
1. This korean phone has been known to have the "Invalid Sender" problem thru sms texting right? The fix I've found was to either install the handcent or edit your number. I can't find a phone with such feature and I've installed handcent but it won't send the message at all. I'm in the Philippines and I'm using a Globe Telecom Prepaid Sim. I've tried a Smart Telecom Postpaid Sim Card and the handcent app works fine. I don't want to switch sims, please help...
Solved
According to my friend most Sony Ericsson Cybershot phones have the function to edit your SIM
2. I bought a USB Data Cable, even downloaded Kies from the samsung site but everytime I connect my phone to the PC it tries to install it automatically and it fails everytime. I don't know if I'm missing something, I cannot find this problem being posted by anyone so far.
Solved
thanks to Kr0c0. donwloaded Kies from the korean site instead
3. Is it possible to use the DMB TV in the Philippines?
4. Is it possible to have Swype on my Korean phone? (I'm sorry, i've found this problem posted but I wasn't sure if the response (after several other posts) is the one I should follow, either that or I just couldn't process anything further anymore.
Solved
thanks to Kr0c0. should be possible thru update
5. Can I get Social Hub?
Answered
precious_mew seems we're stuck with the apps currently.
6. How big is the downloaded file if you choose to upgrade through Kies? Does it affect the 3G capabilities of the phone?
I would really appreciate any help. I sooo love this phone and would like to make use of it properly. Thanks in advance ^__^
Model: SHW-m110s

Hi I'll try to help you out. But I'm no expert. I agree a small corner for the m110s on this forum would be nice.
1. Apparently the iphone is one such phone which can edit your number. There must be one some where?
2. Had this problem too until I installed kies and usb drivers directly from the korean download site.
kr.samsungmobile.com/service/support/down/anycall.software.view.do?modelCd=SHW-M110S should do it.
3. Not sure about this. The Philippines has a dmb service?
4. Firmware DI03 has english swype only. Froyo should bring already korean swype too. When you get kies working your phone should update to this.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

1. So far, none of the people I've known owns an unlocked iPhone.
2. Thanks !! will try to download it right now
3. It doesn't work so I don't think we have DMB service...
4. Can I just directly upgrade to Froyo? are there dangers to that? (I'm not yet quite familiar with roots and flashes)
We should wait for korea to update to froyo (hopefully soon) The froyo available now is for the i9000 which looks the same as our m110s but uses slighty different hardware (like the dmb stuff).
Kies is the official way to upgrade our phones normally but I think you should take another look at the mega m110s thread stickied here. I'm in korea so have had no troubles upgrading firmware but some people out of korea have had problems with their 3g service and possibly other things after upgrading.
Cheers

uhhh upgrade to what? so Froyo is not yet available for Korea but we can upgrade? ermm >___<
I've installed the Kies from the korean website and I have it up and running, I did some progress so far, it says "Connecting the device" but it keeps on doing that forever... I might still be missing something.
Did you pull down the notification bar on the phone and select connect by usb? Some older firmwares were picky like that. Also turning usb debugging on or off in the usb settings on the phone makes a difference too.
And I mean as far as updating goes. The last time an update for eclair 2.1 came for the m110s was mid september. But it only updates through kies so I assume you can upgrade to that now and froyo when it comes out.
Sent from my SHW-M110S using XDA App
Should i be on the USB debugging mode or not? I mean, my laptop tries to install the new device and fails...
Even with Samsung Kies and the USB driver from the korean website, I'm still unable to connect my phone to my PC T__T
Here is the message I'm getting:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
SAMSUNG Android Modem Ready to use
SAMSUNG Android Networking (CDC/EEM Ethernet) Drivers (WDM) Ready to use
USB Mass Storage Device Failed
SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface Failed
SAMSUNG Android Networking (CDC/EEM Ethernet) Drivers (NDIS 5) #2 Ready to use
I've connected yay !!
Now all im missing are Social Hub, Swype, DMB TV and the updates... also to send sms message thru handcent T__T

I'm also a SHW-M110s from the Philippines. You can just download the apps you need from the Android Market like Facebook, Twitter etc. As for the Swype, it will be available once you've updated your phone. I think the DH-07 has the swype. were you able to install the Handcent SMS?
I installed handcent but it wont send my messages thru Globe.
I'm thinking of upgrading the firmware... are there any dangers to that? I've read some 3G problems... Since you're from the Philippines, what can you suggest?
Have you set up an APN yet? If not, contact your carrier. It'll have the potential to help resolve your text message situation.

APN?
I am able to use handcent using a different provider (Smart Telecom)...
I can text via normal messages but I need to specify the sender everytime
With my current firmware, should I upgrade it to get swype or will it just cause more problems?
Bump, still unsure if I should upgrade... please advise
this post can be deleted.
updated the first post for people who will encounter it in the future. Still got remaining questions though...
Help !! ^__^
At first i thought i got robbed and got myself a fake china phone. I then surfed the web & found out it was a real Galaxy S with a different culture. Well these are my workarounds:
1.) Upgrade to Froyo
2.) Edit your Sim "my own number" to send messages using any phone with sim management
3.) Install Launcher Pro and hide all those korean apps
4.) Install Handcent SMS for 160 char texting
5.) Manually create an APN for web browsing using 3G network
6.) Ignore all the korean characters you see (ringtones,etc.. etc..) hehe! besides, all the apps running on international galaxy S will definitely work on our korean model.

Hey Everyone, I'm from the philippines too and I somewhat messed up my m110s when I flashed it, now I don't have any service on my phone. would anyone of you know how to fix this or if need a modem file, which one can cater to philippine networks which would be compatible with the m110s?
thanks!

[Q] Updating AT&T S4 Active to Android 4.3+

Hello,
in my company we are developing an android app. The lowest android version this app supports is android 4.3.
The company bought several testing devices including a AT&T branded Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. With Android 4.2.2 (Buid Number: JDQ39.I9295UCUAMF3)
I tried it for a while now, but I can't get the OTA Update to work. It says "Software update interrupted. Try again in 24 hours".
I can bypass the 24h lock by changing the date of the phone. But even after ~30 tries the phone is not updating.
There is no SIM Card in the phone. Is a AT&T SIM Card needed to update the device? I am not able to get one, because I am located in Germany.
Can I update the phone manually with Kies or something?
I don't have admin right on my machine so I need to know what to do, before I contact the admin to install a required software.
Could a blocked port be an issue? I do have access to the internet, but if Samsung (or AT&T) uses some non standard port, my company could be blocking it.
(Root is not an option.)
Kind regards
Cliff

Hi Cliff. I can't say for sure, but my guess is you can't access the OTA because you're not in the right region (someone correct me if I'm wrong). As far as I know, you shouldn't need a SIM to update, again could be wrong. More importantly, there are other ways to update. You could probably try Kies, but I wouldn't recommend it, it seems like users always have issues with Kies. I would strongly recommend you try updating the phone with Odin, a tool by Samsung that let's you change around your phone's firmware (among other things) when the phone is in download mode.
There is an exhaustive guide linked to here that thoroughly explains how to go from any version of android (official, for this phone) to any other version. In simpler terms, that link shows you how to manually update, which is what I think you're looking for. Also the files you'll need to download are located here. Hope I've helped, and good luck updating! :good:
Oh, just re-read your caveats: you almost certainly don't need a SIM for Odin to work, and you definitely don't need root either.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, maybe AT&T does region lock the update -.-
I've used Odin on my old Galaxy S2 some years ago.
I'll have a look into it and decide if this is the way to go.
Odin will do it as long as there are full install files for you to use.

You need an AT&T SIM card in the phone in order to install AT&T OTA updates. You can't use Kies to update because AT&T won't let Samsung post AT&T firmware on Kies. So your only option is to use Odin and the guide posted above.

SM-G900F - Need original firmware

Hi guys,
My S5 was on 6.0 and have upgraded to 9 Pie but something went wrong (or I screwed up something) and I need to re-upload the original firmware, unless you have better suggestion.
Currently, I have TWRP installed as well as Android 9, however, when I turn my S5 on, I get: Set Warranty Bit:Kernel
It stays there for 30 secs then the phone boots up and everything looks fine, it connects to wi-fi etc.
One other strange thing is that I get a message on the home screen saying: unsupported SanDisk SD Card
I tried a new one, same message.
Before I started this process, I connected the phone to my PC and copied both the Phone and the Card folders, so I am good, data wise.
Basically I was thinking to go back to the very first OS, I think 4.4.2 and then re-load Lineage 16 using TWRP.
If I read the baseband version # is: G900FXXU1ANCE
If the procedure above is correct, would you be able to provide me a link to download the firmware?
I tried all the known sites, but their speed sucks, so I thought to ask here as somebody may have a link.
I will use Odin latest version to install it.
Thank you!
Alex
Access to the original/official firmware for SM-G900F would be extremely helpful for me as well.
I'm running LOS 16 with pico GApps very happily on my S5, however I have mobile data connectivity issues. Data connects and disconnects at random; this is device-dependent (swapping the SIM into other devices gives fully functional data connectivity).
My baseband is G900FXXU1BOA3; I believe updating the modem might fix this?

Fox, you may download the official firmware at https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G900F/
Select your region to get the right ***.md5.tar file to flah via Odin latest.
This will reset your handheld to out of box - original recovery reinstalled - you must reflash it also via Odin if you want to go back to custom Rom..
Good luck
.
Thank you.
What would be my region?
I purchased it in the US unlocked, but US is not a choice when it comes to region.
Would I be able to see the region the phone is from from the baseband #?

If your reference to the baseband version# is correct -> G900FXXU1ANCE, then the region is BTU -> check this address to download the original firmware:

After flash via Odin, reboot and optional reinstall TWRP via Odin to use other custom Roms.
Are you sure you did everything before resuming to scratch. Personaly I would have done the following:
- back up in TWRP (at least data) + back up in google drive if you use google or titanium, (anyway save your picts, ...) if rooted, it is possible to save the file containing SMS, ... search in XDA,
- format (not wipe) !!!! WARNING THIS WILL ERASE ALL !!!!!
- clean install the ROM (lineageOS or else) + optional Gapps (I use Pico),
- reboot and restore data (as shown in 2 above)
(The Roms I use on my two KLTE by personal preference order are Havoc, DotOS, Bootleggers, Resurection Remix, MSM-Extended. I also use LineageOS.

If your reference to the baseband version# is correct -> G900FXXU1ANCE, then the region is BTU -> check this address to download the original firmware:

That site is very buggy, if I search my model and enter all the other info I get to Lollipop 5.0, if I click your link, although I am registered, it does not allow me to the link you provided, I mean I can get to it but when I try to login, it takes me back to the home page, so there is no way to get to your same link while being logged in.
How do I get do the download page it is a mystery to me.
Also, how do you know from the base band that it is BTU region?
Thank you
Alex
PS: I managed to use your link in IE, this site is stone age! Unbelievable, never seen a website like this, there are bugs everywhere.

Men, the subject of resuming to firmware has been discussed and is described in the net literature! e.g. in XDA Q&A.
This discussion is now not a thread anymore but a dialog and I’m sure it will be closed by XDA moderator for redundancy.
The warnings given when you flash a custom Rom are clear. It also implies “before all” to backup, but also keep all materials to resume to original firmware, …. Now I cannot help anymore because you have problem with downloading the firmware.
Last advice – google baseband# - there are probably other web options or torrents
!!!!Also use the thanks button!!!!

Hi guys,
My S5 was on 6.0 and have upgraded to 9 Pie but something went wrong (or I screwed up something) and I need to re-upload the original firmware, unless you have better suggestion.
Thank you!
Alex

1. Its normal to have the "Set warranty: kernel" text. As my device does too. Just simply ignore it. It won't harm your device.
2. Basically you can search websites that had official Samsung stock firmware. Search your region of your device and (IMPORTANT!) your model, in your case, is G900F. (Wow same as mine but different region, Snapdragon rocks).
3. To your network problem, I think you need to wait. There is no other option.
Thanks!
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715487
XDA forums has one. Tip: if your region isn't there, the replies have all the filmwares you can have.

I have downloaded the firmware and this evening I will try to upload it and see what happens.
I still I have no answer to my question: how did you figure out that my firmware is BTU?
I mean, I gave you my baseband version #: G900FXXU1ANCE and when you eventually find it in any firmware sites you are given the choice to choose among many countries, expect USA and Canada.
Since I bought the phone in the US I still wouldn't know which country the firmware is from.
Would you mind to shed some light on this?
Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback John.
I am not sure that message is normal, if you google it they all say it is an issue with the firmware and that you need to go back to the stock one to fix it.
Is there anyone else with lineage having that same message?
Also, when I try to format my SD Card, it gets stuck to 40% and then it goes to the homepage.
I tried also a brand new card, same story.
It gives a message but it goes away after a few secs., I believe it is a Java message, but I can try again and take a picture of it.
Thank you,
Alex

I tell you my experience:
No matter the country you bought your device. As example, I leave in France, I bought mine in Hong-Kong, but choose an international device (G900F).
Before flashing anything, I checked all information in settings and recovery.
Pict below is original out of box G900FXXU1BOC7
Recovery information after latest update G900FXXS1CQD1
It happened recently 2 times my device was stuck because encription issues – I recover by reflashing original G900FXXU1BOC7 via Odin
I personally downloaded firmware as G900F – BTU, because I check the version at each updates and this sticked to BTU ONLY.
May be the site SamMobile will be more meaningful for you, because you see Countries/Operators and updates history.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s5/firmware/SM-G900F/BTU/
For your device, you have to grab the search to find the closest original (which you have) to latest update (if you have it).
For the Kernel yellow tag at warmup, this is done when you flash TWRP. No issues since 2 years operation with that using LineageOS, Havoc, DotOS, AOSP, Bootleggers, RR, ViperOS. If you flash original firmware, it will disappear because twrp is erased and original stock recovery flashed.

When it said that you go back to stock one to fix it. Then want if it is not stock? The message is still there. Its normal if you want to install a custom ROM other than the stock one. I reinstall the stock and install custom ROM again once. It still happened.
I don't know how to remove the text but still have a custom ROM tho.
As for the SD card message, I encountered times before. Maybe you need to format using the computer.

When I reflash the stock ROM TWRP is still there. However no "Set warranty: kernel" appeared. Maybe its just when you install a custom ROM or something, I don't know.
OK guys,
Lineage 16 is installed, everything went smoothly, however when I connect the USB, the phone just shows as 'SM-G900F' on my W10 PC and cannot be expanded, basically no Phone and SD Card folders.
I can see them in the phone no problem, but once I connect it, I am not prompted with the usual message on what I want to do, like file transfer etc. and on the left menu appears only the model of the phone.
I had no issues when I flashed the original firmware, so it must be related to Lineage.
I also installed the Android USB drivers, but no go.
Changing the USB Preferences, to PTP or File Transfer only allows me to see the phone, no SD.
I also tried a new SD, no success.
I am stuck again... Jeez it takes days to get this stuff to work, you do one step ahead and another back
Ideas?
Alex
Anyone?
Shall I ask the question in the Lineage section?
'Set warranty :kernel' means you are running a custom kernel. Any modified boot.IMG can cause this message. It doesn't mean you need to use stock room. This appears even in stock rom with magisk or SuperSU.
