[Q] I Find My Galaxy Note n7000 slower than my Galaxy S2 i9100 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys!
I had SGS2 i9100 for 3months,i recently bought n7000 Galaxy Note as i was inspired by my SGS2
But i am quite disappointed as both phone have same Exynos Chipset and Note is Higher Clocked, still i find most of transitions very smooth on SGS2 then newly bought unrooted 2day used Galaxy Note,i dont get it why
By Transitions in mean pinch out on home screen, and pinch out in main menu, while i was scrolling in android market,i dont like it at all,
When check taskmanager>Clear RAM 400+ memory is used while when i bought my SGS2 it hardly had 200+ used memory when barely apps were installed on it
You Guys have any idea about it? or is it the same with all G-Note's or the HD res on Ginger Bread Makes it slower ?

Removing all the crapware from samsung made my note much faster. I had a s2 before and they give me the impression that they are equally fast.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-N7000 met Tapatalk

Both of My Phones are on Stock Rom ,did removing bloatware made transitions smoother?

Do you remember what you removed?

The processor in the note has to push more pixels than the processor in the SGSII as well.

I do have the same problem, but after installing custom ICS on note. everything went bettersmooth like SG2.
I think its the resolution issue on GB

I must admit when I bought my Note, it is pretty much laggy as compared to my previous S2..
I made a research on this before I actually purchase my unit and I was fully prepared on what I might get after my purchase.
Coming from the S2 and to the Note.. Yes, you can really discern and compare the UI performance of the two devices.. But!
Here's the cache.. 'STOCK'... Something that you might need to ponder....
When I flashed my Note to a new custom ROM... (and bit of tweaks here and there)
Hell yeah, My Note's UI smoothness was comparable if not exceeded already the UI buttery flow of my S2...
So, I guess you may need to consider that option, if it pains on your part to see your Note lags behind your S2....
Just my two cents......

The screen resolution of GNote is much higher than SII.
I can see this big difference especially on my galaxy tab 7.7

Exactly. Even though the CPU of the Note is slightly faster than the SG2's CPU, it doesn't compensate the difference in resolution, so finally the Note is somewhat slower...

This resolution thing is absolutely ridicolous.
Iphone 4 and Iphone 4s have more resolution then a sgs2 and they are smooth.
My Asus EEEpad Transformer was slow as hell and now with Ics Update it flies.
So I personally think that Gnote is slow and laggy only because a bad software optimization and not for a lack of hardware specs.
Just my 2 cents.

IPhone 4s doesn't have a higher resolution than gnote, but does have a higher dpi. Flashing a custom rom can surely improve the smoothness.

Well You're Right Pal about 4s & 4, But you are forgeting something,iOS is made by Apple just for iPhone,iPad etc but Android is made by Google for many of Device's,so Apple has only one flagship device a year with its own OS so they build that OS for its hardware, but Android has lots of Devices only Nexus Series (Google Phones) have the OS developed for them so its clear true support for HD res came with Galaxy Nexus on Android i hope ICS is Fix for This :'(

never under estimate your Galaxy Note... as they say, It is the big brother of the S2... It can do things more than what your S2 can do.. (specifically by using it as digitized tablet)
Anyway.. im using CheckRom, I don't know if that matters or not. I have some tweaks as well that I personally made and installed and made my Note much more fluid in terms of UI performance and battery management..
Cheers

I suggest rocket rom v19_1 because it supports stock look. Actually I don't like the modification made in the latest version of rocket rom.

Might give up Nexus S for G2x :(

Is it a good idea? I'm tempted to sell off my Nexus and get the G2x the 15th when it comes out.
Discuss?
(If this is the wrong section, my bad, I'll gladly ask a mod to move it or delete it)
I also have a mytouch4g. I am going to keep my Nexus S because it is too good of a phone to sell in my opinion but I'm definitely selling the mytouch and getting the g2x.
Nexus S
The g2x looks very good but just cause it has a duel core
Doesn't make it better then the nexus s the ns will always get the first updates
over any phone on android plus the 1ghz hummingbird is a beast ..... I do
Like the g2x tv out options but when comes to speed the nexus s is just so fast I don't see how
they can make it any faster if I was u I would keep the nexus
512mb ram =(
Both have 512 mb of ram, but honestly you don't need more.
I really hate people that think more ram = more speed.
You probably think that 100 gb of ram would make a beast phone.
Anyways: Buying he G2x is plain stupid, android is not optimized to take advantage of dualcores, and the gpu is also weaker than the SGX 540.
The phone itself is kind of hard to hold, when I tried it in the store, it was just bad.
The sound is worse, the screen is worse, it lags more, there are no developers on any of the Tegra 2 devices (almost), its just a bad move to do that.
Stick with faster updates and a better phone in speed, stability, screen, sound, and other stuff.
The G2x is a great phone, but all its problems or disadvantages outweigh the positives.
Please do your self a favor and stop wasting your time thinking about this.

A lot of people really like the lg Optimus 2x. I also think I'm gonna get the g2x anyways because I like new gadgets. Paulobrien is one of the major android developers in my opinion, and he is using the 2x. Not trying to argue with you, just my reasons for wanting to get it, although I am not going to sell my nexus. I'm sure teamdouche will have someone with the g2x too, I think I saw koush or kmobs tweet about how they are gonna get it, I forgot which one of them

There are already many ROM options for the LG O2X. I don't see why the T-mobile G2X will not work with these.
Honestly I/O is right around the corner!!! I would wait to see what google has up its sleeves before I jump ship to the G2X. Its not all about hardware guys, the Nexus S is still one of the top of the line phones!!!
i'm jumping ship as soon as i get the Tmobile USA version
the SNS is not getting nearly as much attention from DEV & Coders as the N1 did

I'm sorry, but where are people getting this information from?
Everything on android uses threading or else the UI would be unusable. Threads are delegated to the available cores, more cores equals better performance.
You can have UI thread doing it's own thing and in the background have another thread calling sqlite, fetching a bitmap, crunching some numbers or whatever.
See that nice and smooth Flash video playing and your browser still being able to do other things ..threading.
You may not notice it on light applications, but anything that does heavier work will benefit from multiple cores.
why is this in the galaxy s II section.... lol

Are you sure the Tegra 2 GPU is weaker than the SGX540? I lag on my Nexus S playing need for speed :/.
The screen is worse, I would miss the Super Amoled, maybe it's best to wait for the Galaxy S 2 and skip the G2X all together
The G2x does look nice but I've been spoiled to much with the super amoleddisplay on my vibrant so I'll stick with the SGS2.

Galaxy S II quadrant benchmark

http://i55.tinypic.com/2qbagpg.jpg[/IMG]http://i54.tinypic.com/dfafj4.jpg[/IMG]So I have been thourgly impressed by my thrill and I love it. However we just got the galaxy 2 in and I ran a quadrant score to compare and was devastated. The galaxy 2 destroyed my thrill and the infuse we tried against it. So I will be posting the three scores so everyone can see. I'm only posting this here in the thrill section since so many people have been debating between the two.
I live my thrill but may just have to jump ship after seeing this. They come out Sunday but most stores such as mine already have them

If you care about benchmarks then the SGS2 will be the best device for you, spoken from a former SGS2 user.
However, if quadrant is all you care about, here is my Thrill running Thiaiz 1.3 w/ some build.prop tweaks and Supercharger V6.
NOTE: These tweaks make the phone actually feel faster.

You will still be able to still score MUCH higher the SGS2 though because you can overclock the CPU and GPU, as well run these same tweaks.
Thrill didn't even make the list. LOL!
I don't see what is so impressive with that benchmark to be honest. My Thrill scores 2510 completely stock running Froyo.
**** EDIT ****
I just ran Quadrant again and scored 2720. This is a 100% stock phone. I only have root, no other tweaks yet. I may yet still return it, not sure yet. I like so many things about this device, just don't trust LG very much. Of course, I don't trust Samsung much either. I have been burned by them both in the past.

I actually topped that running the hacked together cm7 for the O3D on the Thrill. There's a screenshot in the cm7 thread in general. So don't get too discouraged...this Froyo LG gave us is just horrible. GB will be much more optimized for the Thrill than Froyo is.

Its not that kind of list. It has a list of certain devices and some generic scores built into the app. It doesn't show any comparisons that the user actually runs.

Get CM7 or some other custom ROMs on this thing running gingerbread (which is what it is being compared to with the SGS2) and the Thrill will be on top of the SGS2's score. I'm going to stick it out with the Thrill and see what's coming down the line. The only real thing the SGS2 has that is better than the Thrill, is the NFC (which doesn't even work yet supposedly). The Thrill having 3D is worth more than that for me.
When the next Nexus device comes out though, I will probably get it to rock along side my Thrill (unless by some miracle it has 3D in it, which I HIGHLY doubt).
I'm in the same boat. I just got the thrill but lack of gingerbread is killing me. My inspire on miui at only 1.2ghz beats it at most anything. In replacing the inspire I was looking for a phone that out of the box would equal maxxed out, balls to the wall speed on my inspire. I really feel like its being terribly handicapped by 2.2. My local att store claims that they are temporarily withholding the gs2 in my local market and sold me this phone instead.
Speed tweaks people, use them. The phone will be a LOT faster, trust me.

Can you link the boosts your using to push your to that? My boss has the Galaxy S II now and after much debate and using the Galaxy for a bit i decided i like the Thrill better as an overall phone it simply has a better flow to it and does everything i need plus has the Wow factor with the 3D which, since i work at at&t in one of stores this proves more beneficial to me in the long run. I would love to have some form of boost to put my Thrill up there closer to the Galaxy.

Supercharger V6
If you want my specific set up, then you will need Root and CWM. Flash Thiaiz Rom and follow his instructions for "extra speed", replace the build.prop with this one, and then install Supercharger V6.

The SGS2 is and will be a much better phone (imo). The only thing the Thrill has over it is the 3D. The SGS2 has a better camera, audio chip, cpu/gpu, display, support, battery life, user-experience (a lot faster), etc. Unless you REALLY care about the 3D, I'd highly recommend the SGS2 over the Thrill.
As for you job, why can't you just get the AT&T SGS2 which has NFC?

I prefer the Thrill because to the average user the ability of the galaxy II will go unnoticed and they will never "take it out of first gear" so to speak so the 3D feature of the Thrill weighs heavier to the clientele we service, atleast in my experience. If i show them a video of Avatar in 3D compared to a benchmark score of the Galaxy which do you think they are going to appreciate more?
And thanks for the tips im going to have to look into that rom you have and see how it will work for me. I have supercharger on mine now and the results have been minimal, though i am sure it is due to my lack of experience with Supercharger. I have the hard to kill launcher and the aggressive one settings. Any tips on how to tweak it?

Probably the SGS2 if you compared them side-by-side. The benchmark would make them think "this is one faster so its better" and when you compare the LCD on the Thrill to the SAMOLED+ on the SGS2 they will see MUCH better colors on the SGS2 and think that it is a higher quality phone, and the price also suggests this. Also, when your demoing the SGS2 you can compare it to any smartphone's browser in the store and I guarantee you the SGS2 will load it up first. You can say that's a combination of the phones fast 1.2GHz processor and AT&T's 4G network.
Personally, I think its easier to sell a SGS2 than a Thrill to someone either knowledgeable or ignorant. Anyways, I use option 7 (multi-tasking) for Supercharger.
If I'm running the thriller rom, would the supercharger do anything in terms of performance
Yes, Supercharger should make your phone faster no matter what Rom you're on (even stock).
So, what was the GS2 quadrant score? I just ran it and got 2678 and have had over 2700 before. Completely stock and unrooted.

I very highly doubt the "average" user would give a rats rear about benchmarks and would much prefer watching a video in 3D. As for everyone always placing the SGSII with "Higher Benchmarks" above the thrill. Let's think for a second, once the thrill has a new Kernel and GB which the SGSII has than they will most likely be on par on benchmark scores. Secondly the thing that threw me for a loop the most about the SGSII is the fact that you have to BUY an adapter for the dang phone to even use HDMI capability when almost all of the newer phones coming out have a dedicated HDMI port and are coming with the cables. As for the SuperAmoled + that is only going to take you so far considering the resolution is still the basic 480X800. Also in regards to what loads the browser faster go look at the video reviews between these two. The thrill actually did that faster in the video's ironically. So yea throw in the No HDMI unless you pay MORE money plus the 3D plus the fact that the Thrill is Very close to on par with the SGSII without GB yea do the math a little bit on which would be easier to sell at that point. Truthfully the SGSII is an easier sell to Geek's than your Average person and even than the 3D is very cool and this phone has a Lot of potential that it is not utilizing with Froyo.

I don't think they would care about benchmarks itself, but I do think they would interpret them as the SGS2 being faster, and its natural to want the fastest device.
Its not common for phones to come with cables that connect your phone to your TV. I was actually really surprised when AT&T included one with the Infuse and Thrill.
SAMOLED+ provides much better quality/colors and the 800x480 screen resolution is standard on Android (meaning all apps fit it the screen perfectly). As for the browser, no. The SGS2 is faster in any comparison I've seen and from my own experience with both. Its also hw accelerated so it will be smoother than any other Android device.
Lets say the Average Joe knows nothing about these two phones and so he looks at their spec sheet. 2.3 Vs. 2.2, 8MP Vs. 5MP, SAMOLED+ Vs. LCD, 1.2Ghz Vs. 1.0Ghz, 1GB RAM Vs. 512MB Ram, 16GB Vs 8GB, Thin Vs. Fat, Light Vs. Heavy. If he used the devices he would also find the experience on the SGS2 faster and smoother in everything and the screen would make the Thrill's look washed out. He looks at 3D content and either he likes it or it hurts his eyes. He then compares the pros/cons of both and the only thing the Thrill has over the SGS2 is the 3D and price.
The SGS2 sells itself.

Yes but do you think the extra 100 dollars is worth that phone that will be outdated in half of a year? Nobody can judge the Thrill because they never advertised it, no commercials were released and everybody is amazed at the phone and they always ask what kind it is. It's a great phone, and it has and puts forward some amazing performances.

[Q] So.. Is the Galaxy Note slower and more laggy than GS II?

Hi dear,
I just read some posts that said Galaxy Note has some lags when scrolling and opening some apps..
So I want to ask the owners of GNote, do you really feel it's slower and more laggy than GS II?
If it's because of the resolution of the screen, would it be fixed in the future with ICS?
I need answers today as I was almost gonna get Note tomorrow morning but these posts make me confused...
It has better spec (actually almost identical to GS II) but doesn't feel good when scrolling? That sucks! As a owner of iPhone 4, I do not like that lag feeling..
If you have any second thoughts, just wait a while. Don't go buying like crazy.
But, is a small lag (that will probably be fixed at a later date) a real deal breaker? Coming from the Apple platform i think you will be blown away by the device.

Cool man.
I got it. It's not a real deal breaker, of course.
I'm going to get it due to its beautiful display.
Not sure where you get these rumours from! I have both and I have no lag at all. If anything it feels quicker then the SII but its hard to tell because both are lightning fast.
What it is laggy in the phone?
All of them or the scroll in touchwiz? If its all of them I think that will not be solution.

Really?
I just read it today in one thread....
And some owners said when they scroll the screen on home screen it's kinda more laggy than sgs II...
By the way, how is the text on browser?
Is it crisp and clear which can read without zooming in?
Can it be comparable to iPhone 4 screen?
Please let me know about it before I purchase tomorrow!

Oh thank you very much
Could you please upload the original capture photo please though?
I'd like to see!
Just now I went into the Dubai mall Samsung store and played around with the 4 galaxy note units on display for an hour. I was gutted to see how laggy they all were. Web browsing (once page was fully loaded) and gallery app were simply not as responsive as the SG2 next to them. Also the pentile screen as much as I hate saying it but it simply is not as crisp. The difference is visible
My experience is very different to some of the comments here
I'm so disappointed - the form factor is great, it really is thin and light. I thought this would be my next device.

So do you think it's worth to get galaxy s II more than galaxy note?
I was worrying about the pentile screen on galaxy note but some said it wouldn't be a problem...
I can't see this device in real even if I really want to.
But, although it's not as responsive as sgs II, does it have any lags?

Thank you very much for advice
But is it significantly Bette than sgs II do you think?
And the pic you upload is honestly almost invisible.... Hm...
What about battery life?
Dont have the phone yet, but i ask people who have SGSII and comparing that to note.
Is ur SGSII on the stock firmware. Most of the minor bugs have been cleaned out and phone has been made super responsive and fast thanks to XDA.
Even the latest firmware from samsung seems to fix the earlier glitches.
So if GNote feels a little lagging, wont be a surprise to me.
Give it some time.
I had Samsung Galaxy S2 and now I have Samsung Galaxy Note and it is smooth like a charm
but only in touch wizz launcher. All others launchers (GO-L, L-PRO, ADW-L) are a bit laggy, probably not optimized for such resolution. But anyway I love the phone and I am glad that I sold SGS2. The screen is just amazing.
An U really have to be an idiot to chose iCrap over this beauty.

I just got it this morning!!
I was so suprised by the size of Galaxy Note!
Its not a typical size phone lol
And when I compared with gs II, scrolling was similar but speed was faster.
I mean when both are on wifi, webloading and youtube was faster on Note.
But I feel it's a bit laggy especially on browser..
And usage of ram is too much.. almost 700 mb after playing 3 hours.

[Q] Is it worth upgrading my I9000?

Now I got all of your attention with a vague subject header
4 months ago, I bought a samsung galaxy i9000 because, prior to that I was on an E72, so anyway wow, world of difference, but on my I9000, I can play pretty much all the high end games, for now at least, i'm not a serious gamer, so to me, amazing graphics as it is..
At the time I bought the I9000 because I wanted to be plan free, but now my contract on the E72 ran out and now I can upgrade... should I buy a Galaxy S2?
Given that Dual Core ARM processor support for apps is fairly limited, I can't really imagine most tasks requiring more than 1gig of CPU power, I can watch divx, play games, GPS, it's pretty much all perfect, except with the odd couple of hangs the I9000 gets every now and then I love my galaxy so much lol...
So can anyone give me 3 realistic reasons to upgrade?, be as technical as you wish, I know the hardware it supports, I just need to validate my need to buy a new phone yes, games will load faster, but still.. they work just fine if you wait an extra 10 seconds for the game to load?..
Reasons for upgrading? please?
.....
1gb ram, you can run more stuff, active development, ics
Sent using TCP/IP
ok let's reword it a little, what could i /do/ that i can't do now albeit a little laggier and slower, that includes the ICS port for the i9000
I own a GTI-9000 myself, and my wife owns a GTI-9100. I have played around with her phone quite a bit and the nicest thing about it is the speed. Everything is snappier, loads faster, and seems to just perform better all around. Not to mention you get a bigger screen. 4" to 4.5" is a decent enough difference, especially for HD gaming.
Couple that if you get the Galaxy Nexus you get factory ICS. No need to root or do anything fancy to get it to work. Plus everything works 100% with full support.
Honestly if I could upgrade I would. I like my wife's phone more than mine. Basically if you really like your GTI-9000, there's no reason a better version of it wouldn't be of value to you. That's how I feel about it.
Aside from stock ics, camera and better cpu I don't think there's anything else worth noting (except you got a new look ) But for some games you just can't play it with I9000 like Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD (I was crying when its price drop to 10c to celebrate 10 billion downloads on the android market T^T) There's more but I think if you browse the market with your phone you will not find it cuz it only show the ones you can play. As for stock ICS, I think Samsung ROM won't beat the CM team's ROM anyway :X
thanks for the replies...
you know what, I was curious about what you said about Asphalt 6 (still sounds like a rude word to me lol) anyway, I actually installed it and ran it, it's actually quite smooth on my I9000, but I usually idle around 100-129meg free using a combination of killing event application triggers (eg keeping keeping certain apps from launching on power save features on a rooted device), and advanced task manager..
Anyway, Asphalt 6 is actually smoothish occasionally, it drops a fps and you can see it jerk, but it only lasts for a split second... i also tried 'Fast 5' try that on the galaxy 2, on my I9000, i'd have to say the game is playable at a pinch, the framerate is simply not cutting it...
So, then, I have to upgrade my entire phone for 1 single game then lol
look, I'll give you guys an example...

^^ my phone, Samsung Galaxy I9000 (16gb version, 4 months old, came with 2.3 now on 2.3.3, now my 3D graphics score is 1106.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4a-sphr07c
above is the new galaxy nexus, which has a dual core, it has a faster cpu, by rights, it should really own a phone as old as the i9000 fair to say..
but, if you break, it down you'll see that the nexus's GPU power only gives it's a slight boost, 3D 1226 on the galaxy nexus, and on a humble I9000 GS, we have 1106..
Now what gives the impression of a superior score, is of course, double/triple the memory and significant IO/read/writes.., when it comes to Asphalt 6 on the I9000 vs I91000, there's really not much difference on that game...
but when it comes to I9000 and the I91000 for say Fast 5 and next generation games which use the dual cores properly and efficiently, then we will see leaps and bounds between single cores and dual/quad..
But we're all playing the catch up game, and the catch up game really is the I91000 so most games and most programs will run perfectly on the i9000 i should suspect albiet it may take 2x as long to load up, 2x long to run, and only 80% as smooth as the I91000...
Or maybe I just have a freaky ARM processor and everyone elses I9000 is significantly slower GPU than the one i have... no idea.... i might go investigate that now... (after investigation, it's average i9000).... so there you go
You are operating under the assumption that benchmark scores actually mean anything significant.
The Galaxy S and Galaxy Nexus use the same GPU though.
S2 rocks
you should upgrade to s2 because :-
1. better camera with LED flash
2. bigger display with AMOLED+ display
3. 1GB ram to make it lagfree
4. high GPU for heavy games
5. DUAL core proc...1.2 which can be overclock to 1.5 if you want
6. vast list of custom rom to finish the word lag from your phone
i think they are enough for you...i still have many points!!
hit thanks if i was helpful to you.
update, we ordered the upgrade.. $29AUD a month with a $4 data plan (we already have 2 phones 2 plans, we don't need to make that many phone calls so the cheapest plan works out just fine for us, since calling each other 24/7 is free)
That works out to about $33 USD a month at the current exchange rate.. $0 upfront for the phone, but... the catch is it will be on a 12month plan, but since this phone will keep up with the competition concerning applications support dual core, I think this phone will be a worthy competitor for playing games on even 3 years off.. maybe near the bottom of the list of the benchmarks, but will be one hell of a player of the high range cheaper phones.... playing even the latest of games i'm sure...
i will buy me every version of galaxy s!
y? because im a fan of them
but for real there is no reason for me to change to s2...

I think I regret buying the Nexus 4

I had the HTC One S before, but wanted the Google Nexus experience (vanilla Android, latest updates (and on this phone compared to the One S quad core, 2GB RAM, etc..) and the price was too good to pass up. I mean, the value for money with this phone is amazing, I don't think I have ever seen, or will ever see better, but...
Coming from the One S, it seems like a huge step down. The phone seems a lot bigger in comparison (mainly width and especially depth), yet when taking into consideration the on screen back/home buttons, the screen is pretty much the same size, but a little wider (maybe 5mm)
Also, when doing a Quadrant test, the One S looks much smoother on the video parts, and the overall score is miles better (score of 6452 vs 4798) on everything
One S v Nexus 4
CPU: 9211 v 10402
RAM: 12383 v 7020
I/O: 7408 v 4149
2D: 1014 v 247
3D: 2245 v 2173
The One S also has HTC Sense which I like (but can live without)
Maybe I will get used to this phone, or just appreciate it more when the next update comes out, but in the mean time I don't really see a huge improvement in speed/responsiveness or the screen over the One S
I can imagine it being a huge improvement over plenty of other phones however, but I think the One S is unbelievably underrated and actually more powerful than I thought it was before. I feel like the Nexus 4 is a downgrade for me right now. I understand the Nexus is thicker because of the wireless charging plate? Well, this is something I would give up for a slimmer phone, especially considering the phone doesn't come with a wireless charging unit.
I don't wanna sound like I'm just bashing the phone, is there anything I should try out on the Nexus 4 that I would be missing on other phones (already tried Photosphere which is great btw)
There is already a nexus 4 vs any other phone thread present as a sticky in which this should have been posted. Didn't need a whole new thread dedicated to this

Eh, if anything, I'm sure you could probably trade back for a One S.
Both are great phones, but at least you can say you gave the Nexus 4 a try.
I don't get why people care so much about the quadrant score. Nexus 4 runs very smooth; no lag at all. Does it makes you feel special when u see a higher number? Most of the stuff OP mentioned could been avoided if he/she done a little research before purchasing N4. It all comes down each user likeness. Now days just Google any phone vs any phone and you will see a very great comparison of every spec.

I like the Nexus 4, but I really like the One S too
In fact one thing I just noticed (found in another Google search) is if you put them side by side on a table they're the same depth (of course the One S is slimmer in the middle)
Maybe I need to get used to the feel of it...
I'm gonna use the Nexus 4 for one full week instead of the One S and see how it goes
Anything you recommend me trying out on the N4?

Nah I don't care about the Quadrant score, but the scores just really surprised me. I think the RAM comes down to LPDDR2 (low power DDR2 instead of DDR2) and I don't know about the I/O (thought it was all flash storage)
The GPU results surprised me though (the video looks smoother) as I thought the N4 had a dedicated GPU chip?
One of the problems I think is everybody compares phones to the One X, nobody has really done any great One S v Nexus 4 comparisons
The nexus 4 runs fast, is a great phone to use, has sufficient battery life for me, and cost half of the HTC phone you mentioned.
I really don't see the point in running benchmarks all day and not worrying about real usage and real cost. If you want to be a benchmark jockey you will always be running after the latest and greatest phone and lusting after every new phone ever 2 months.
The nexus 4 is a great phone and a solid purchase. If you regret buying it, sell it and get something else. But if your nexus 4 isn't defective in some way realize that the problem is with you and your inability to be happy with anything, and not with the phone that is a great performer and great value. I can already see that you're the kind of guy who will never be happy with anything, as you owned an HTC One S and then bought a phone that came out 6 months later. You won't be happy with anything as long as you see something shinier. You are the perfect customer.
Quadrant gets weird scores on Nexus 4, no one really 100% sure why.
Try Antutu, with a bionic optimised rom (most roms have this now) you get 21000+ scores; Antutu had to be updated when Nexus 4 (with 4.2.1) came out because of weird low scores, quadrant was never updated.
Also get your full screen by removing the nav bar and using something else like pie controls from LMT.
edit.. also '3dmark' test will show you the adreno320 in the nexus4 blowing everything else away.
You're incredibly stupid to base your phone choice over some benchmarks.

Hmm, not sure really. The Nexus 4 is pretty much that, a Nexus device with pure Android. I can see why it may (not saying that it does for you) be boring or not as flashy. But there's not much to try out for the Nexus 4. Everything is pretty basic and minimalistic, and that's why some go for the Nexus I suppose.
With the N4, you get a decent device that can run with the best of them. If you're into flashing ROMs, pretty much almost every ROM posted here will work with very very minimal bugs, if any bugs at that. Although the One S isn't a bad device at all, so it's really up to you. :good:
My Nexus 4 absolutely fly's.. it speeds through everything.
It's all well and good having a number on a screen but I owned a HTC ONE briefly and many apps on that lagged yet run fine on my Nexus 4?

yea, if you are running your device at 1.8ghz+ and have other things optimized(custom rom/custom kernel), itll score high. at stock speeds and the stock rom/kernel it will never get close.
