Worth it? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I'm currently on an Atrix and I'm thinking of switching to this phone since it has a faster cpu and the ics update is out. Should I go for it ? What do you guys think of the HTC vivid overall?

Made the move from the Atrix 1 to Vivid, like day and night. Thanks to htc, vivid is the first us device to get ics.

Considering that the Atrix will not be getting the ICS release any time soon....
http://www.androidauthority.com/no-ics-update-for-motorola-atrix-4g-50718/
I would definitely upgrade.

The Atrix will be getting an upgrade in the third quarter it is on Moto's site.
That's probably September.
I came from the Atrix as well and yes the Vivid is a much faster and smoother device and I love ICS.
The battery life on the Atrix was better, the Vivid is superior in all other aspects imo.

Knowing moto they'll throw BLUR on it too.

The Vivid is a great device...I highly recommend it, as the others have posted. Not sure if the OP is still checking this thread but if so, go for it!

True, but all manufacturers will do that. The Vivid has Sense on it.

I switched from the Atrix to the Vivid. I still have them both. For me, its all about HTC Sense and apps included.
Atrix Exchange/corporate email is horrible. Most phones EXCEPT the HTC Sense phones have horrible Exchange email. Sense also has a great agenda and calendar widget. It even has Task support with widget.
I had to buy $50 worth of apps and widgets on the Atrix to give me the convenience and productivity of the Vivid and Sense.
Battery life, screen size and CPU are trivial to me compared to functionality for business tasks.

I made the switch from the ATRIX to the Vivid with an early upgrade, meaning unlike many people in here I paid $350. I took a gamble and so far could not be happier. I honestly hated my ATRIX when it was on stock, it was not until I got on CM7 that I actually enjoyed the phone. Being on the vivid just feels more solid and flows very nicely. So far the only dislike for the phone is the lack of S-OFF that makes flashing roms more complicated then it should be.
That beign said all around I love the VIVID. Alternatively there was a recent AT&T article that stated the ATRIX was to receive ICS "in the coming months"
While this is not the light at the end of a tunnel, the last time AT&T said that the Vivid became the first (or one of the first) non Galaxy phones to get ICS. So you may consider holding out and seeing what comes in the next few months.

Honestly i had a Galaxy S II and i (LOVED) it. but i couldnt keep wating for ICS. I was flashing so much not because i wanted to see new things. it was because i was bored. So i took a gamble. I figure HTC is better with updates than samsung(truth) So i got the Vivid On Thursday. Friday a software updated came to my phone it downloaded it and ran it. Next thing i know i have ICS. I couldnt believe it. So with that being said. Get the phone i love it!!!

IMO as soon as you overclock the Vivid the Skyrocket doesn't have much point...
Seems like the only reason you might want it is because it's light and thin compared to the Vivid, but the Vivid sounds like a solid phone and reviews so far seem to like the materials.
I might get it too, it looks good.
I will most likely go for the Vivid, I've only owned iPhones and the Galaxy S (Captivate) always wanted to try an HTC, though the battery is larger in the skyrocket. Like was stated I'm sure it will be OCed to 1.5 or higher to match the skyrocket.
If the Skyrocket had better resolution, 480x800 is pretty low at 4.5" I'd go Skyrocket fore sure.
I'm at the at&t store now getting the HTC vivid
i'm vouching for HTC, great phones. I owned a sensation and fell in love with it
I am not i think its weird looking
Taking my Infuse back today
I had the OG SGS2, traded it in for the Infuse, and am going today to trade that one in for the Vivid. I'm hoping this is my last stop! This will be the first HTC android phone that I buy, but based on the quality of my old WM HTC phones, I'm looking forward to getting this one!
Just picked up mine about 15 mins ago and its looking pretty sweet so far. Can't wait for it be rooted and some custom roms.
got mine 2 hours now its very good and fast. cant wait to get rooted and overclocked to see what this baby can really do.
Picked mine up a few minutes ago as well. Love it so far. HTC makes very high quality devices
Has anyone picked up the white one? Curious how it looks in person.
Just got mine.
Coming out of a Tilt 2. What a change.
I got mine a few hours ago its a great device the one thing I noticed so far is the volume level its pretty low compared to the gsII varients besides that it beats out the skyrocket.

i know there is a thread on here to vote for which phone u want a forum for so if anybody hasn't already search and vote. Also i did notice that it is quiet. But im getting better download speeds than with my rooted Inspire which was 3mbs down and 1.6 up now im getting 6mbs down and 1.6 up with my vivid and im not even in a LTE network
Just picked mine up. I looked at the white one...not a fan. fun fun!
I got mine as well and man oh ma is LTE fast! Can't post screenshot yet cause its not rooted but I'm consistently getting high 20 mbs down and 12 mbs up! I'm in Dallas and this speed is ridiculous. Hopefully I'll get decent amount of battery life with this phone. Gave my wife the galaxy s2 with cm7.

I am most likely gonna get one as well considering I keep getting Hardware issues with my Atrix 2 I just got. That and HTC is Quite a bit easier to root and s-off than Motorola as far as I remember. That and I also won't have to wait for unlocked bootloader which might take quite awhile. Only problem though is that I bought my Atrix 2 from Best Buy who for some odd reason are selling the HTC Vivid for 100 More than ATT is selling it at.

Inspire vs Vivid...

Has anyone here gone from the inspire to the vivid? I'm undecided on my next phone and I want to know if there are any significant advantages to the vivid.
There are only 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary math, and those who don't.
Hey man, I was in the same boat as you. I couldn't make a desicion but picked up my vivid today. I just unlocked the bootloader and now looking up how to root it. The Inspire is a sick phone. I previously had an HTC Aria and it was just time to change that dinosaur of a phone. The inspire is super fast but I have friends that have had issues with the stock rom. I rooted my cousins phone and no issues to date. It's super quick for a single core but cons are does not have a front facing camera. The camera on the inspire is really nice. There are tons of roms out for it and you can literally root it in 5 mins with the Ace Hack Kit. I decided to go with the Vivid bc the inspire came out last year and I don't change phones as often as most ppl on here. So I hope in 2 years time to be somewhat up to date with the Vivid vs the Inspire. Both are excellent phones and hope there's a lot of developer support for the Vivid.

I have. This is like an updated Inspire with a bigger screen, without the stupid battery door lol. This thing is officially getting ICS, so I'm going to have to say it's the best phone on AT&T right now. Some may argue GSII but having only touchwiz and AOSP ROMs in development is boring.
i went from the inspire to vivid.... but i wouldnt have passed up a new phone anyway
I loved my inspire, and its probably the only phone i have owned the longest, but i got the vivid as soon as it came out and im in love all over again. You wont regret getting it!
as a matter of fact, i held on to my inspire and almost went back to it with the CIQ stuff, but i held out for bootloader unlock. My love for the vivid was stronger than my concern of privacy and security..
I'm coming from an Aria, so I'm sure I'm in for a treat. I rooted my wife's inspire but haven't done anything else with it. I'm vaguely familiar with her device, so I'm entering this decision with no bias. I'm about 85% sold on the vivid, I just gotta hide the $200 purchase factor. Maybe work a deal with them. "Retention" is a powerful word in this area, so let's see if I can get them to come down. $150 and I'm gettin the vivid.
There are only 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary math, and those who don't.
I am coming from the Inspire, and I like this phone a lot more.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA App
My only issue with the Vivid coming from Inspire was the right hand power/sleep/wake button (personal issue), but easier to get used to than having a Vivid and an Exynos SGS2.
Definitely the Vivid. Bigger screen than the Inspire, talk about about a version of ICS coming out soon, not to mention that if you live in an area with LTE, it would make life alot different and easier. You may pay more for the vivid, but you are definitely getting more for the phone.
I went from Inspire to Vivid as well. Loved my Inspire, but I love my Vivid more. Screen size on the Vivid is nice. The Vivid is much easier to root as well. The Inspire has more custom roms, but the Vivid is gonna get ICS. Worth the change for me.
I went from the Inspire to the Motorola Atrix2 & was very disapointed with the phone (had a lot of bugs & motorola excluded it from it's ICS update list) so I took it back & got the Vivid & I'm in love. The screen on this phone is out of this world awesome. It's like the Inspire on steroids. Everything runs faster, smoother, better & plus it's on LTE. It also very easy to root & you can unlock the bootloader very easy using software from HTC's website. If you shop around like I did I got Best Buy to price match Fry's, they had it for $79.99 with a 2 year contract.

[Q] Switching to the Vivid.... ideas?

So i have the AT&T Galaxy S II right now. I want an LTE phone with a 4.5"+ screen...
the Vivid looks pretty nice.
Questions:
-Is the Vivid's bootloader locked or unlocked?
-Is Vivid going to get CM9 officially?
-Is the build quality good? Better than the Galaxy S II?
-Is the battery life as good as the GSII's?
-Is it worth going with the Vivid now, or should I wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD or the Sony Xperia Ion?
Thanks for the help!
Bootloader is unlockable via HTC dev site
I have owned the sgs2 aswell and the vivid is far more heavy but I feel like it is crafted better, however more breakable screen wise.
HTC has stated that the device will get ics first quarter 2012. So as long as we have willing devs we can get cm9, there are already a few working on it unofficially

Came from the skyrocket and I do not regret it at all. Vivid feels like a phone. Skyrocket feels like a toy. Vivid screen is better. Skyrocket is good also. Vivid battery is great for me on a Rom I'm working on. Skyrocket was only good on cm7 . Table will turn once we get cm7 or cm9. I'll have to give the Vivid the belt between the two.

Coming from the SGS (the first one), I bought the SGSII only to return it for the Raider after two days. I never liked touchwiz (I used ADW launcher) it's to simple and not very friendly. The widgets suck and the UI is to iPhone, with its big color full icons that take way to much room. The lock screen sucks even on the SGSII, if you enable pin/password etc you loose the ability of notification on the lock screen and no notification led (unless you use bln and backlight keys), this was enough to push me away. I like the ability to see text, change tracks, see the weather all without unlocking the phone and still have it locked with a pattern. Yes i tried Widget locker and al though it worke it involved to many widgets and apps just to get what the Raider already has.
These are the few things i disliked about Samsung and they are still an issue with the SGSII, all in all the Raider in my opinion is the far superior phone despite what reviewers say, if Samsung made the touchwiz better and not stip everything that is android i would have sticked with the SGS.
I had the Captivate before this Vivid so i personally am blown away haha. I have two co-workers who have the skyrocket and they want my white vivid. I personally love both phones but i recommend the vivid especially if you are planning to do any rooting. As of now i get about 2 days battery life using RumRaider beta11 with fairly heavy use considering i sell phones. Like everyone has said the vivid is heavy and you can feel it but i have noticed i drop light phones more because its hard to feel when they are slipping. the vivid of course doesnt have the amazing samsung screen though which is to me the only downside. Im running 47mbps on my vivids LTE which so far none of my coworkers have got on there Skyrocket. HTC also i believe is a far better company. its all personal preference though when it comes down to it. Either way i don't think you will be disappointed.

I however can tell a difference. I've had my Vivid since I picked up mine and my wife's white Vivids from Frye's in Atlanta during their 80 dollar sale this past Sunday. Coming from the 800x480 resolution display of the Inspire, this is more, well, Vivid. To me, there is a BIG difference between the displays in the resolution department. Yes, the Samsungs have vibrant displays from the SuperAMOLED+. However, the resolution is only 800x480. The Vivid, on the other hand, has an equally beautiful qHD display. The resolution on these badboys is a healthy 960x540. The winner of best display, for me, is the 960x540 qHD display of the Vivid.

Exactly xD its not much of a difference but samsung i believe is the only phones with AMOLED screens which gives a nice liquid color but HTC did such a great visual job that the difference is hard to see. I think its just cause i work with phones all day i can see it haha

I have decided to just wait and see what comes out in Q2 and maybe Q3. I happen to be insanly lucky and found a Nexus One in the street!
I will be using that until either:
1) I can find the owner (I wanna be a good person)
2) I find an awesome phone that I'm going to be satisfied with.

AT&T HTC One X on sale May 6th

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/atandt-confirms-htc-one-x-to-land-may-6th/
Hopefully development for the Vivid won't be hurt too much by the release of the One X. Kind of sucks it's released only 6 months after we got our phone, but considering it won't come with a removable battery or a micro sd card slot and only 16GB of onboard memory, I think sticking with the Vivid isn't such a bad idea as long as development continues for the Holiday family.
Still hoping CM9 and Sense4.0 RILs get completed before the One X is released, sucks it's such a pain to get working, but much appreciation for those working on it.
Another point to be noted is similarly to what happened to the Vivid, the One X may have its bootloader locked for some time too and maybe be S-On. I'm only speculating unless there's news out there already.

I thought the one x was supposed to have 32 gigs of memory? Either way I chose my vivid knowing this was right around the corner, no regret really. I'm sure the one x is nicer but no user replaceable battery was the deal breaker for me.

I think the international version has 32 GB of memory. Why they reduced it is strange. Also, the AT&T has a different processor so it can work with LTE, so I've read.
Yeah because nvidia screwed up (again) with tegra 3 and didn't optimize it for lte. But the new snapdragon supposedly blows it away anyway. No doubt the 16 gigs only would be a deal breaker for me. I mean the way Samsung partitioned my captivate, I could make do with that, they gave you 12 gigs! But both my flyer and vivid give you 8 gigs which isn't enough though I did notice that 4 gigs is partitioned for internal storage so I just never move apps anymore.
Of course my understanding is ics is supposed to do away with internal storage and just have one partition for everything... Doesn't apply to our phones because they were upgraded of course but maybe on the one x it will be that way and just give the user 14 gigs for apps and storage.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
I'm thinking about just getting the international version just so I can have the quad core and bragging rights. There's no LTE here in Delaware so I could live without that.

Samsung is cool. They ship with unlocked bootloaders. They hire Cyanogen guys. They work hand in hand with devs.
HTC on the other hand, has gone the opposite direction.
Never thought it'd happen but Samsung > HTC in terms of dev friendliness.
Yeah and i think it was may last year where htc said no more locked bootloaders yet out phones and the one series are still locked. Motorola pretty much did about the same thing. But man Samsungs are so friggen cheap feeling in comparison to htcs
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Whatever the case may be, the only thing I like on the OneX is the camera and Sense 4.0. If they can be ported to the Vivid, I'm sticking with it. Even when the OneX hits, I'm still probably going to push the Vivid to my customers. LoL. But I'll get to play with the OneX at least a week before it's officially released to the public.
I think the one series might be a big fail for HTC. The general buzz is people are irritated about no removable battery and no expandable storage and review sites are ripping sense 4.0 a new one. Honestly I don't get the trend of android phones leaning towards built in batteries myself. I can kind of understand the lack of expandable storage as ics is capable of having one master partition that can be used for app data and user storage, and obviously we're heading towards a cloud based future anyway. But the built in battery just sucks. It's why I bought a vivid and didn't wait for a one x.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
When they announced this phone I was excited and said that was going to be my next phone, but after buying an HTC flyer that was noticeably faster than my captivate, I just wanted a phone that could keep up and decided on a galaxy s2. Well my friend who has a Droid bionic convinced me that lte was worth it so I looked at the skyrocket. But the skyrocket was $200 and they had this lte HTC phone that had the exact same specs as the skyrocket but was only $99. So I got myself 2 of those one for me and my wife. And as the one x date came closer I had often wondered if I screwed up not waiting for it. Thank you HTC for making me realize I made the right choice!
The more I read about it the less appealing it is. First I didn't care about having an SD slot because with 32 gig your set anyway but now its confirmed, 16 gigs only 9 available to the user. They claimed better battery life but the euro model without lte is getting 10 hours on standby...can't imagine what lte would do to it. My vivid is pretty good when its not on lte, a battery sucker on lte but I have a solution: spare battery and external charger. My battery warning hits and a couple minutes later I'm at 100%. But not an option on the one x because the damn thing is built in? Did HTC miss the original Motorola Droid commercial? A user replaceable battery is supposed to be an advantage over the iPhone, no one wants a built in they deal with it because they have to.
Last gripe is sense 4.0 vs 3.6. Its not dramatically different its the same sense with a skin. Sense has actually grown on me quite a bit so its not necessarily a drawback but its not an advantage either. I've watched YouTube videos and most of the changes are skin deep. And the failed horribly too opting to use capacitive buttons instead of the ics action bar thats supposed to show as needed because since there is no menu button, a gigantic one pops up and takes away screen real estate as needed.
So I conclude the one x is just another phone and not a god send like everyone wants you to think it is. And I'm happy I chose the vivid instead.

what i would mainly consider
hardware (mainly for gaming and videos)
custom roms (ics mainly )
battery life
build quality
any other thing i would've missed
You're asking this in the Vivid forum so obviously we're going to the Vivid. Even if I wasn't biased, I'd say the Vivid over the LG. But might as well wait a week for the One X release at this point.

The One X might be a step down - no micro SD card, no removable battery. Yes, it will come with ICS and Sense 4, but the new Vivids being sold now probably have ICS (with Sense 3.6), or should.

the one x is completely out of my interest ! and budget too
so i am only comparing the vivid vs nitro !
what would prefer ?
I have had the Vivid since the day it was released and have no regrets. LG makes some products very well...I have LG washer and dryer, DVD player...in my opinion they are far behind in comparison to HTC..but I am somewhat biased towards HTC after having an LG phone after my departure from the iPhone...I thought iPhone was the bomb until I tried android...no comparison..I too am not interested in the One X, not because of price but the battery and sd card issue..if I wanted that I would have stayed with apple...

i'd say vivid we have a batter camera in my opinion and we have better roms also in my opinion. also we have ics. i am also a fan of the sense UI over any other android UIs. also LGs history with phone updates is pretty terrible. The Nitro HD wasnt even a option when choosing the Vivid.
The Vivid has a stronger dev community than the Nitro. Plus I would prefer HTC Sense anyday over LG's interface.

the camera is terrible (like really terrible, worse than 1st iphone terrible)
the phone is plain
the screen is the only thing the phone has over the vivid, and it's not a significant difference.
if you want the 1.5ghz clock than use a kernel that puts it to it's default value (htc underclocks for battery life) an hey you can go to 1.7 if you wanted to as well.
get the vivid, trust me lol

thanks...
i don't know if it natively does.. but you can get MX Player or something like that, and it'll play it. Also, i've never actually "bricked" my device i've messed everything up seriously multiple times but very easy to come back from it

yeap mx player does the job !
but you know it is always better to have default video encoding support !
anyways, i am going for the vivid !
is my choice legit ?
My only suggestion is to not use cwm recovery or twirp recovery and use wcxrecovery. Wild child was on the phone with a guy for a few hours trying to get cwm recovery off this phone because it bricked it. After a while he got it off the phone. I have heard people are having issues with the twrip recovery as well so I've stayed clear of that myself

The One X might be a step down - no micro SD card, no removable battery. Yes, it will come with ICS and Sense 4, but the new Vivids being sold now probably have ICS (with Sense 3.6), or should.

It's a huge step up in development though.
Of course that's only speculation considering the AT&T version isn't out yet. Looking at the current development community, it's intriguing.

There could be 1000 devs for the One X and I still wouldnt want the phone lol. No expandable memory kills it hard for me.
