Rosie Scroll Issues - HTC Sensation XL

Hi guys, Ive just sold my xperia play and bought a sensation xl. There is only one thing bugging me about this phone, is there a way to stop rosie from continually scrolling? my last HTC (the DHD) had a bounce back effect when you reached the first and last screen, rather than just continually scrolling in a circle. is there a way to force this version of sence to act the same way?

Unless you use a customer launcher from the market you won't be able to stop it. That's the only way I know.

[Q] Touchscreen Lag IncS

Hey folks,
I'm experiencing with my IS, as mentioned in the title, an input lag of the touchscreen. It is not really disturbing, but the fact, that my friends Wildfire recognizes the input better, with Stock 2.1 ROM installed, bothers me really
In the moment I'm S-off on Android Revolution HD 1.1.2, which has a slightly better input than stock 2.3.3, but it is still there. Please tell me, if you are experiencing similar problems.
thanks Max
Only thing I've noticed so far is that if you drag slowly In some applications (like the browser, doesn't matter which browser I'm using) it doesn't scroll at all... but in the settings menu I can swipe downwards as slow as I want to, so I guess what I'm experiencing is software related...
What I really want to know is if I'm alone, or if there has noticed the same thing
Sent from a dumb phone
with my IcS... ive noticed that certain parts of my screen at the randomest times will stop recognizing input.... for me this happens exactly at the O and N key... after leaving it for a few seconds... it starts working again so not much of an issue to me...
there is an app in market place called touchscreen booster... maybe apply that and see if that helps u change the sensitivity...

thanks for the advice danial.aw. I tried your method, but the only touchscreen booster app i found in the market was for SGS, so that hadn't had any effect
Keeps annoying me buying a 500$ phone that has such a crappy touchscreen...
Sounds to me like you might have a faulty unit if it's bad with both stock and custom ROMs. Never had any issue with mine.

Not a clue I'm afraid. Always worth asking them I suppose.
well yes it says thats its for SGS only... but the app worked on my Atrix when i had it... so im assuming it might actually help more phones than that... try it out and see...
Doesn't make any difference no matter what i set in the app. I will drive to a store today to see if it might be subjective but I don't think so.
Edit: well it's not only subjective, I'll give the warranty a try, lets see how the will react
wooh got all of my money back, I'm moving to WP7 now. Android hasnt persuaded me...maybe again when 4.0 comes out.

No I've tested the one from my sister for already two months and I'm very content with WP7. A Phone should be fast and I'm not really into Apple's politics.
You will be in microsofts politics though. WP7 is as closed down as ios. At least with apple you get a good warranty service.

ICS installed - observations and a couple questions

All,
I was able to update my locked/stock Vivid to ICS using the RUU. Everything went well after locating the appropriate Windows 7 drivers. After using it for a couple of days, here's some random thoughts and questions:
In Gingerbread I was able to download an HTC battery widget from the HTC Hub. I can't find it now in the updated (ICS) version of the HTC hub. Am I just missing it? Not a big deal since I have Beautiful Widgets installed, but the HTC version matches the overall Sense theme better.
When using static wallpaper swiping between home screens does not cause the wallpaper to scroll. I thought it did this in GB, but I might be mistaken. Is there a setting somewhere for this?
Rearranging the lock screen shortcuts isn't intuitive. After a bit of trial and error I had the light bulb moment and realized that they are using the shortcuts on the launcher for the home screen shortcuts as well.
Speed! This ROM is fast, even for an arguably bloated stock offering.
Sense 3.6 is a bit of a disappointment after seeing the clean look of the Sense 4.0 screenshots. It strikes me as odd for them to offer (and then have to support) this interim version. The hardware is capable of 4.0 (speculation on my part) so this leads me to believe HTC/AT&T just want to differentiate between the One series and not cannibalize sales.
I'm loving the new home screen folders. Much more polished looking than Gingerbread
Bluetooth is performing better under ICS than GB. My wife noted that the call quality when paired to my Pioneer AVIC Z110BT car head unit was slightly better now. Less echo, but still not great. Likely a head unit problem more than the phone - the AVIC units are notoriously bad for BT performance.
Overall a very positive upgrade! I must admit I was shocked that AT&T would get this update out so quickly. I figured they'd drag their feet until after the launch of the One series if not longer.
-Brett.
I agree with you about it being a positive upgrade but I wouldn't exactly say AT&T got it out, I think credit for that goes to PirateGhost. AT&T from what I understand has only sent it to one person that we know of. I wonder what will happen when AT&T actually does try to push the upgrade in my area?
When I run the "AT&T Software Update" from settings, I get an error message, "Server Unavailable." So, AT&T is not yet putting out the ICS update, at least not in my area. IF and when they begin, it probably will take some time to get it out to all users.
I suspect the version currently in the wild was released for a little field testing to see what happens.
The AT&T update told me that my software was up to date right before I flashed ICS, so the update definitely isn't out in my area yet. When I got my phone on 2/25 the guy at the store told me an update was coming in 'a few months.'

To answer one of your questions, GB does not scroll a static background (at lease the background that I am using on my phone).

Are you using an image that is wider than a single screen? For instance, I'm trying on of the ICS default background images as found here. It's wide enough to scroll through several home screens but for some reason it's not scrolling.
Thanks,

Could that be because I'm on holiraider?

What Sense version does holiraider have? If it's 3.5, then that might be a problem since the Stock GB Vivid only has 3.0.

That battery widget trashes battery life by polling the battery percentage all the time.
so far so good
I have been running on ics since the first night it was available and I think it is fairlly smooth and fast. Everything seems to work well but when i try to check for software it dosent do anything. But I am greatfull to Pirate and all who made it possible. I hate to see the devs going for sure. This seems to be a descent device for real and I hope we can get the dev's rolling again.

I hadn't considered that. Do you know if the holds true for the Beautiful Widgets battery widget? I would assume all battery widgets use a similar polling mechanism.
Does it make a difference if it's not on the main home screen? I would hope these widgets would be smart enough to only update when in view.
Thanks,

Good point. Was it ever determined if this was a test version or the final product? Any reports of anyone else getting the update OTA? The version number being 4.0.3 710RD does seem to sound different than other versions I've seen.
Thanks,
-Brett.
I went the RUU route and rerooted my phone to remove all of the bloat. To be quite honest I like it a bit more than gingerbread simply because it boots faster and manages the ram more efficiently. While the transitions between flipping through the sense pages is smooth, the touchscreen feels a bit "sluggish" compared to gingerbread. Sometimes it's downright not responsive and it takes an extra swipe to register my action. It might be an isolated event on my end but if it's not I'm just giving a heads up. Sense 3.5 runs well and it's still too soon to tell for battery life. I'll edit this post in a week after I give the rom some time to settle and get used to ICS a bit more.

I just checked and no. Now that you mention it I do remember a scrolling image but I can't remember the circumstances around it. Maybe it was a live wallpaper.
This seems to be the final test version sent to the carrier for approval. The official release is likely a couple of weeks away because it takes carriers about two weeks to sign off on it, unless they find something to change.

If you need to get rid of it, you can set it to manual update to save on processing/battery, then swipe it away and define the empty next screen as your home screen, and add more for the original multi-pane android home feel. You could, for example, add 5 home pages ... scroll to the third empty one, declare that as default home, and then have the equivalent of a typical 2-left, center, 2-right android layout, and you can lways flip further till you get to blinkfeed if you ever do ant to play with it for a while.

I actually like it! I use flipboard on a daily basis while listening to music. I wish the time/weather at the top was swappable with music controls or some other useful things.
One thing I haven't seen in any video is how BlinkFeed has an impact on power/data. I think I saw someone mention that the feeds only get updated when you swipe down to refresh? I am not sure if this is the only way to update or if there is an automatic timer as well. If it only updates when you swipe then certainly it shouldn't affect battery/data too much. I know that only headlines and pictures are updated when you refresh and the content is only downloaded once you press on an item.
would blinkfeed use too much of juice and ram has anyone had demo unit
I actually think its a pretty neat idea...it'll help me keep track of GSW trying to keep their playoff spot or the LAL trying to get in to the playoffs haha.
But that's what I was thinking...I mean you could just unsubscribe from all that news and nothing will show up...right?

It doesn't really matter. As others have said, you can turn off automatic updating and set another screen to be your homescreen, thus never having to see BlinkFeed again unless you want to. I'm glad HTC allowed for us to move away from it if we want to, but I imagine myself using it since I think the design of it is great.
I am not convinced of it as well as I like the clean sense look, my first challenge will be to hack this out or somebody else might do it before me, let's see

It would be interesting to see if someone could make it so you designate a certain screen/page as the 'BlinkFeed' screen (similar to setting a page as the homescreen). That way you could remove it entirely or move it around so it could be in the middle of all your screens.

It's not a dealbreaker to me but I understand that it can be for someone as it takes away some screen real estate. For the same reason software buttons are a dealbreaker to so many people.

Honestly... If this was the only new phone coming to the market this year your argument might make sense. I dunno his opinion but for me. I like having a consistent menu button and not having onscreen buttons... Now when you have this and the galaxy s IV among other phones coming out or currently out... And like some of the stuff with each, and one has something that you know aggravates you, it could be enough to send you to a different phone.

Like I said I was the one who made that mod in the development section. Obviously I already know how it functions/why it's not showing up in the menu/why it's not working in the stock ROM. If I translate the code in english language it goes like this.

I asked about where did you hear the information about the fix in the next update not kiddie speak for explaining how you fixed the issue.
1. Properly designed apps that use Google's design framework will have an in-app menu button. So no black menu bar. Vast majority of apps now won't require the black bar.
2. HTC got rid of it on the One X when user feedback said they wanted it gone. I see no reason to assume they won't do it again if enough people say they don't want it.
Like I said it's just a minor bug. HTC just skipped updating this one piece of code for it to work on the production units.
Meh! I give up! lol

He was merely explaining how the bug worked to point out that mapping Menu to Long-Back option is, actually, meant to still be there. HTC simply forgot to make sure that scripts in all places were talking about the same device.

Flaming isnt necessary really
People use their phone differently, its the same reason why theres never a "best rom" or a rom with the "best battery life"
And to the other comments, its likely not to be patched so that they have more reasons to sell a "developer" version
I may have a bad news related on HTC to bring back button remapping options.
Just saw engadget chinese mention in their HTC One review about that Google MIGHT be the force behind that lead to HTC sudden removal the remapping option from HTC One's newer ROM because Google insisting the menu button must somehow be 'observable' on sight.

Hello Devs.. I'm really missing @Turge landscape Rosie mod for my One X+. I use it all the time when docked at home and in the car. Any dev care to work on this? Or if you already are, please let us know how its coming along! I'm positive i'm not the only one interested. I also tip very well lol :silly:

Lol I've gotten it to auto-rotate, but it looks like this (attached). One I'm still working on (also does weird things on the homescreens, i.e. stretches one screen onto the next)
create some layout-land/***.xml and it should be fine.

This is an incredibly good point...no landscape layouts or defined. Thanks Kiray.
Sorry nugz, don't think this is a project I'll have time for

Any luck on this?.Please tell me you're still workin on it :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:. I know you said you probably wouldnt have time but i thought i'd ask. My daydreams wont work in landscape because prism is portrait. All the daydreams start in portrait even though i'm docked, pretty much useless . If i use nova its all good but i really like sense
Anyone else
I'm pretty sure it can be done, the Media Link mode makes it a landscape launcher.
Bump for the landscape. I can live without the 7 home screens. Has anyone heard any talk of anyone working on this? I use phone in the car docked and night stand docked as much as i do holding it, it's a shame that HTC doesnt develop and include landscape.

I was working on this for the One X (sense 5.4) I had no time last weeks, but I will try to find more things that need fixing.
This is how far I have come:
