Note on AT&T can't send pic txt - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a GN N7000. I have it running on the AT&T network here in California. The problem I am having is that I can't send photo txt messages. I can send and receive regular txt messages, but i can't take a picture and send it to my wife.
Anyone know what is going on?

The same thing happened to me till I figured out a solution.
turn off your WiFi when sending pics or video mms...
Also.. the pics won't download either with the WiFi on..
The plain txt will... but not the pics...
Bottom line.. turn off WiFi.. Send pics mms.. thru 3g...
Turn WiFi back on if needed..
Works for me... good luck

Thanks for the response, I just tried that method. Still doesn't work for me. What APN settings are you using?

I find that IF.. if I start the mms with wifi on... and send... then relalize that it ain't sending.... then turn it off ...it STILL. Won't send.....
I find that I have to slip into airplane mode.. then back out of airplane mode .. in order to get the 3g to send....
Or maybe even a reboot.. then it sends no problem...
So.. try this.... turn off wifi....
Restart your phone....
Leave wifi off....
Send a pic message....
I bet you it does go thru....
Same with receiving....
Wifi must be off on mine to download the pic..
Just in case... here's my settings I am using..
Good luck

Oops. Page 2?

Are you on a stock rom?
I tried the suggestions and had marginal success. Basically, I can send photos if they are a very small size. (640x480). I can't just take a pic and send as mms.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

you need the correct apn for the plan youre on or it wont work...wifi on or off has nothing to do with it...

yes I am stock rom and stock messaging app..
I just open a message.. choose "to"... click on paperclip....
take the shot with camera or pick an existing photo..
the message says.." picture too large.. resizing".. then it inserts the automatically resized picture in the message and hit send...
IF, & I say this works for me.. IF my wifi is connected.. the pic will NOT send....
I have to disconnect my wifi for the pic to send....
it's how mine works,,,,
stock GN7000 at&t sim card.. on the 2G a month tiered plan..
good luck....

Wow, skywalker.. good answer...
By the way ...
How did you put thise big arrows in your screen shots?
Thanks..

im just going to say it again (and im not looking for an argument)
wifi on or off should have NOTHING TO DO WITH MMS. im using the pta apn currently and i send 20-30 mms a day while on wifi.... ive also used the same one that comes stock on a samsung infuse and again never had to turn wifi off. there has to be something you all arent entering correctly. and again remember you have to use the correct apn for the data plan you use. i think ive set up around a hundred of these that have come in my shop and none have had to have wifi turne off to send or receive mms...

well I read most of the pages there...
seems like the international version with stock GB....
DOES have a problem with sending MMS pic while CONNECTED to Wi-Fi...
At first I thought it was just me with this thread...
now I see it's common.....
thanks for all your's help!

I agree with kawgirlval69. I am on stock GB rom with franco.kernel v10 and i have no problem sending mms wifi on or off. Your apn has to match your plan AND your sim card. It also has to match the the data plan att has coded in to your account. You can't use a LTE apn with a non LTE sim card. The link 2 or 3 posts above is a great thread from Jade Eyed Wolf about setting up the correct apn. Read it. It works.

MMS stuck at 'downloading'

I seem to be getting a notification to say I have a message but when I check the message it just says downloading. So I rang vodafone and got them to send me the APN details and re-entered them. Got my friend to resend the message and it worked.
The day after the same thing has happened - I have not changed my APN so not sure why this is happening. Standard messaging app on cyanogen latest. Did a bit of searching but all seems to be related to APN issues and activation which I know this isn't.
wtf
So the same person sent me an mms and it came through with the other one above it still saying downloading... :S
I have this problem recently also. He never got an answer. Is there a fix?
Edit: I came from a clean wipe and I'm using "Blue Magic MKllr1".
Same here, I have to turn my wifi on then I can download it which is strange because my internet is out but seems to trigger the 3g to download it not a fix by any means but it may help someone out.
And yes I have mms activated and all the rest, as the OP stated been there tried that apn wise and mine also went the same way, one day it work and next it didn't
This also happens to me... but it only happens when I get a message from a Verizon phone.
This is a strange problem, when I first flashed a ROM on my G1
I remember not having any data connection at all.
I had to use wifi for any data transfers, and to Sign in with Google.
Upon reboot though everything was setup right, you should check
if it's a bug with your ROM.
Still didn't fix. It's the same on edge, 3g and wifi.
I use to have this problem and it was frustrating to manually switch between using MMS APN and 3G APN. Try this....
in Your 3G APN, under the APN type, type in "default"
in Your MMS APN, under APN type, type in "mms" and make sure your "Proxy" and "Port" settings are also entered under MMS proxy and MMS port.
After putting these things in, I can automatically switch between MMS and 3G and the downloading will actually start downloading and not just remain stagnant with nothing to show. Hope this works.
Sorry if it does not because I am not in the States. But let me know how it goes
I didn't know the apn settings for U.S. T-mobile so I tried a work around that worked! i flashed the base htc rom, then newest cynagen, then fastest 3.0.3, then Blue Magic MKllr1, then metamorphed an expresso theme. All no wipe. MMS works! I still would love to know what goes wrong from one rom to the next.
I apologize for reviving an old thread but from a quick search, I didn't see anyone with the solution I figured out.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G on TMO and this same exact thing happened to me. Someone sent me a picture MMS and it got stuck on downloading. I tried enabling and disabling Wifi, made sure I had 4G, etc.... Nothing worked. The MMS they sent me still said "Downloading" and was stuck. There was no way to abort/redownload/etc. Meanwhile, I could send/receive other MMS just fine.
Finally, I tried going into the messaging settings and disabling auto-retrieve. When I went back to the thread, lo and behold, there was now a download button!! I hit it and presto, the MMS downloaded!
Hope someone finds use from this.

Thanks, had this issue on my Samsung Mesmerize and found this thread googling. worked for me.
Thank You sooo MUCH! this was annoying the heck out of me, but your method fixed it:}
Another bump, this was the fix. I had data disabled to save battery when an MMS came in. It was forever "downloading". Data on/off, reboot phone, didn't matter. Flipped it to manual download, turned on data, and hit download. It came right through.
hmmm
Im on a rogers.captivate running apex 11 i believe. None of these fixes worked for me.
same here: i'm on 4.0.4 AOSP (although a samsung note, but as said: AOSP)
and a mms from a girl-friend is stuck with "downloading". none of the above will make the "downloading" disappear. sending and receiving of other mms work fine. guess i have the same issue with the initially wrong APN settings!
anyone has an idea how to reset the downloading?
I know its an old thread but if anyone searches to here....go into settings and uncheck auto download mms...then go back and there will be a download button, click it and boom...itll start downloading. Then go back and recheck auto download.
Can't receive mms attachment pics with Inspire 4g after full wipe

Isn't V20c baseband NOT supposed to have ghost calls?

I've never experienced a ghost call, when I was on stock, and when I switched to V18 baseband.
But now I'm on V20c rogers baseband and 100% of the time I get ghost calls. I used my house phone to call my phone 3 times in a row and none of them made it though. It only works if I'm already on the phone with someone and it beeps in the background.
I'm not sure if it's the rom I'm using, or the baseband.
I'm using ThiaiZO3D 2.7 with V20C, I'm going to try Biohazard 2.9 now, if it makes no difference I'll flash the official AT&T gingerbread baseband.
edit: I found that when I have it on "only use 2G networks" is when I get ghost calls... what the hell??

Yup, unfortunately nothing will explain why you have ghost calls, some people have them, others don't, nobody seems to have any idea why. They've all tried 50 different superstition methods to get rid of them, some seem to think they have. I thought I had but my dad just walked in to my office to pick me up for lunch and asked why I wasn't answering my phone. I'm very suspicious of my phone going into GC mode and in the 10 minutes he claimed to be trying to call and text me I received 1 text from another person and called myself from my office phone just to make sure I had service as I knew he was on his way to meet me for lunch. Hence the reason they're called ghost calls, they are a ****in mystery that apparently even LG has no idea how to fix.
BTW, I'm unrooted in the US on ATT's network using ATT's official GB. I've experienced far less GC's than when I was on Rogers GB as well as that straight LG one that was released in India a month or 2 ago.
Hmm. SO! I had the craziest idea.
What if the ghost call issue was because of the actual Phone.apk?
lol that's a possibility.. but that wouldn't explain what I was experiencing when I'd switch from 2G and HSPA and each time it would work or not work.
When I was calling my phone from the house phone the dial tones do sound different when it's a ghost call, not sure how to explain it. It's as if right before each dial tone you hear a "cut off" noise, kind of like a click.
My girlfriend's Motorola RAZR from years ago used to do that when I'd call her. If I heard this click I'd know the call didn't even make it through, so I'd continue to call till I hear a "clean" dial tone.

I had that kind of thought as well, a lot of people are saying baseband, I wondering if maybe not the baseband by another common package on all GB roms.
I going to give a try with the P970 baseband which is 2.6 to see if this helps.
But keeping on topic all GB roms custom or not seem to have this issue, I haven't seen the P920 RIP problems on P925

[Q] AT&T user, can't send or receive MMS/group messages while on wifi !!

So I finally narrowed this down, I haven't been able to send and receive MMS while I'm on WiFi. If I disconnect WiFi then I receive and send MMS perfectly, I can recreate this at will. This happens with my WiFi network at home and at work. What happens is I get the MMS or group message as a download button, when pressed it just looks like its downloading but nothing comes through, it says it's only 1kb size.
After extensive searching the only leads I've come up with is that it's the WiFi calling feature somehow trying to take over the MMS. I've tried freezing WiFi calling through titanium but that didn't help. IWhen I go into settings WiFi calling is off, and if I hit on then settings crashes so I can't even turn it on to configure settings, which I doubt would help anyway.
Anyone else with this issue resolve it? I'm going to try to see what WiFi ports WiFi calling uses and block them to see if that helps. But WiFi calling is off so I'm not sure if that's even the issue. I did have AT&T totally reset my messaging account and force APN settings, and I verified my APN settings match what everyone else on the forums is saying to use.

To the OP, it may be a conflict with using an AT&T sim as AT&T does not use wifi calling. Not sure what would help this other then turning wifi calling off in the phone app, which looks like you have already done. Have you tried out the CM builds at all? I know they will not have that feature baked in as it is proprietary and only works on stock or custom stock roms.

Thanks for the reply. I'm noting that I have WiFicalling settings in Titanium but I cannot find wfcservice, I'm wondering if somehow I uninstalled it with titanium. I'm wondering if that's the issue. I may just try a factory reset and leave the WiFi calling apps on there. I was just hoping someone else would have had the same issue.

Do a nandriod backup and try dirty flashing the stock rom or whatever rom you are on at the moment. Not sure if doing a factory restore would replace the lost app. Could be wrong here but that is what I would try first. If that does not fix the problem you can always restore the backup and be back to where you are now.

Thanks, I think I'll try that over Odin. I don't have a custom recovery so I'll probably try a titanium backup, although my head always spins trying to figure out how to use titanium. What's the most popular recovery for our Note 4's? Maybe I should do that so I can just nandroid backup.

Recovery! I would just install TWRP and do a nandriod. It is convenient to have the recovery built in. It makes it super easy and quick to backup and restore when trouble shooting. It is as simple as a quick 20 second flash in odin. You can do it the way you want, but it seems that it would be easier to have recovery installed. Just my opinion though.

That's weird. I'm using the t-mobile note 4 on At&t's GoPhone service without any issues. Not sure if having the phone unlocked will make a difference or if you told at&t you were using a tmbolie note 4 on their service.

ATT knows it's a T-Mobile phone and had no issues with that, or with helping me troubleshoot. I'm just getting into a new flash so will see if that helps.
Make sure sms app has the correct settings for mms. I'm using textra and had issues with it having the wrong settings.
Bleh, well a dirty flash of NK4 didn't fix it. I now have access to WiFi calling settings, I made sure it was off and checked cellular preferred just to be safe. May try a complete wipe see if that works.
Complete wipe and factory reset, nada. Still can't send or receive group messages/MMS while connected to WiFi. What happened to all the ATT users on T-Mobile hardware? None of you guys have this issue?
Just did a Odin to stock NK4 and I'm not having any issues that I'm aware of. Also in textra I have this checked

I know they will not have that feature baked in as it is proprietary and only works on stock or custom stock roms.

Another worthless rude comment. Cheers

From what I've read that setting in Textra is for the same issue I'm experiencing. I'm not really into the technical aspects, but when I'm on WiFi does data automatically get turned off? What happens if you uncheck that setting? Does checking that setting also cause your stock messaging app to work correctly? Thanks.

That may help your issue, worth a shot. But double check the apn settings within Textra to make sure they're correct. A couple of times I had to change them. Otherwise it's a good app for texting.
Working here for me. Have you checked you APN settings?
APN settings are good. Now in addition to a complete wipe I've reflashed the stock ROM, flashed FireKat and flashed Dynamic Kat (awesome ROM I think I'm going to keep) and still the same issue. I'm going to swing by the ATT store and see if I can get a new SIM card, it's the only thing I can think of.
I'm having this same issue, on stock and firekat roms .
Any news

Has anyone gotten Visual Voicemail to work on Straight Talk - Verizon? Im on 6.0.

Hi I was wondering if there is a way to get Visual Voicemail working on the Nexus 6 running android 6.0 on Straight Talk Verizon. I am not very keen on using youmail or google voice as work around because it ties up my call forwarding if I want to use it. Id rather have a fix for the app. Plus allot of the third parties charge for even partial voice to text on the messages. Thanks a bunch.

its up to your provider to use it. if they allow it, then it works fine. it works without issue on tmobile.
Can anyone help get it working? Thanks.

if its working, you need to open the phone app, press the 3 dots at the top right, press settings, press calls, press voicemail, turn on visual voicemail.

oh, sprint i have no idea. ive actually not heard about sprint users using visual voicemail, so it might not be available. works on tmobile, and now starting to work on verizon.
Its got to be something stupid. Some phones are working on Straight talk Verizon. Who has gotten this working on the Nexus 6 and what is the fix to the apk or OS so the stupid thing loads. Riht now all I get is an uption to use normal voicmail or upgrade to visual voicemail ten it goes to a useless call verizon page. I suspect it could be fixed with some sort of side load.

side load? no, its not an app. its part of android. which version od android are you running, the latest? with the latest security? for verizon, it probably needs to be enabled by google, which google usually does a little at a time. with tmobile, it started working when the M dev preview came out.

Im running stock 6.0. Google turning on verizon visual voicemail randomly makes no sense at all. If it got force loaded where it thinks that update its trying to do that fails before telling you to call verizon is done it would work most likely.

The software is likely there and would load if it saw a flag or would load if it saw a flag. Where it works on some phones its probably some stupid condition the software does not know how to deal with properly that needs fixed.

I am interested in this as well. I am using my Nexus 6 with Straight Talk (Verizon Sim). I tried tinkering with the Verizon Visual Voicemail App but no go. It must pick up that its a Straight Talk user, and not Full Verizon.

VoLTE don't depend of firmware. It's depend of operators. I also didn't have VoLTE on Vodafone.de, but this options was auto activated when I started using new SIM from O2.de.
It works on Mate 9, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 20 Pro with the same SIM card

Both here
Top left corner, where you can se 4G or LTE, you get a icon for VoLTE and/or WIFI Calling, on the Mate 20 Pro but not for the Mate 20. I don't mean general in the settings.

Finally someone! I thought I was the only one. And yes. Gmail is the absolute worse, every email when the screen is locked is late.
For me, another thing I noticed, WiFi is actually worse than cellular data. When on WiFi and the screen is locked, after some 20-30mins of not using it, its as if the phone goes into some sort of deep sleep even though everything is enabled in the settings. And then, after that 20 30min all the notifications that came can only be 'activated' or seen by actually entering the app.
But for me, WiFi is worse than cellular data, I actually get most of my notifications whilst being on mobile data but WiFi theyre always late.
Sth like that hapoen to you too? If you perhaps noticed?

I did not notice any WiFi problems. When somebody sends me a message via Signal there is no delay receiving it with WiFi on, even when the phone is in deep sleep. But Gmail (and other e-mail clients) have a big delay. Hope that a future firmware update will solve this problem.

What about whatsapp, viber, instagram, messanger? When on WiFi or mobile network. Everything on time? Just the gmail?

I only use Signal, so I can not judge about the other apps. Gmail is the only app that has a big delay, WiFi and mobile.

Okay. For me it's all apps on WiFi and just gmail on mobile data. Hm. However, gmail does NOT show up until after like 10-15 minutes later when it randomly pops.

Yea, it's annoying. Surely us two are not the only ones with this issue - gmail not pushing notifications on time on 9.0.0.210?
