Can i sell a Droid 3 or should i throw it away? - Motorola Droid 3

I only want to know if i should sell it or throw it away.. if it's worth it... don't want to sell it here. Sorry if that thread seems to.
I bought a droid 3 on ebay, unfortunately i was not able to remove the subsidy lock
When i bought it, it was brand new. I only tried 2 codes, they didn't work. Bad luck for me.
I've never made any modifications to the software or hardware.
The specs:
Model: Xt862
Carrier: Verizon Wireless
ESN: good (i looked it up on verizon wireless' official website)
Condition: very good, not a single scrach or any damages.
Batteries: 3 (manufactured by motorola, they work without problems)
No instructions or anything else..
I live in europe (Austria) so i cannot retrieve any codes from verizon, only a customer of them can do that. So the value would be reduced to the minimum or nothing right? I got a new phone from samsung for free from my carrier "Telekom Austria" so no need for this cell phone any more. I don't even know if it is stolen or not, some unlock-code sites said "reported as stolen". Verizon website says it is eligable for activation the seller called verizon, the same answer. I don't want to do any researches to find out if it is stolen or not.. i don't think it is.
So is it worth to sell it or not?
Many thanks in andvance!
PS: sorry for my poor english

so maybe i can sell it on ebay .. how much can i get for this cell phone, approximatelly?
Yes, i'll do that but this phone is senseless in every aspect!!! Even a stone is more efficient as a paper weight! and of course much nicer DDD
The worst thing is, there are no alternatives for a qwertz or qwerty keyboard here.. no single phone at any carrier.. what a ...**********. they are too old to get support.. all of them..

You can definitely sell it. To say it's worthless is ridiculous. Android phones still serve as decent personal media players and gaming devices.

put a price on it, and let me know through a PM, pls.
i will take it of your hands.
i am located pretty close to your country, also.

Donate it to hashcode or some other developer. It might help them help the rest of us.

yes, this is the best idea!

You can sell it on Ebay. How much you brought it for?
Sent from my XT883 using XDA

Including taxes about 300€
without taxes 240 €
seemed to be a very good price..

Have you tried with TurboSIM, more precisely i-SmartSIM (orange)?

In addition to eBay, I would suggest dropping a PM to some of the D3 developers. They may be willing to negotiate a fair price with you, so they can have an extra device to test on, but definitely don't just throw it away...just a thought.

Best Place To Buy A Touch Diamond

Hi,
This is my first post here, but the site is great and I've been coming back here for about 2 weeks while trying to decide if I should buy a diamond and I have to say the people, reviews and discussions have certainly swayed my choice into getting one. It was touch and go (pardon the pun) for a while after some initial bad reviews, but since the ROM update it seems everybody is a lot happier! I know it will take a bit of tweaking, but I'm a S/W engineer, so its nothing I'm afraid of, but it will be my first WM device, so I'm a little scared...
I nearly opted for the iPhone, but its a brick, if not a pretty cool device, but I want something that I can put in my pocket and use as a normal phone... I have an iPod for music and videos, a phone is a phone (but the GPS rocks)
Anyway, I digress, I do have only 2 questions and the first one is pretty redundant from reading this forum, but here goes:
I saw a Touch Diamond for sale on eBay and the guy selling it said that he was selling it because he was disappointed because when he came to use the GPS it was a lie and that he needed an extra component and had to carry something else around? Whats all this about. I did freak a little when I read in all the spec sheets that it was GPS "READY"... what does READY mean? I assume it comes with it all from reading the reviews.
Second question, since my mind is pretty made up and I will be getting one, where is the best place to buy one (for the UK, and UK spec) I'm not looking for cheapness, as i know they are knew and average is around £450ish (inc VAT and Delivery) but dunno where to get one from (Not eBay anyway) any advice on the best online shop, or if anybody knows of any shops that sell them (in Manchester) that would be great.
Thanks for any help in advance!
DG
Plenty of places in the UK to buy them from, if you had done a search you would have found a thread that listed all the places in UK that are selling them and they are uk spec.
But for you ill name a few:
www.expansys.com now have the official uk spec Diamonds
www.clove.co.uk
www.play.com
www.totalpda.co.uk
www.powerupmobile.com
www.htcdirect.co.uk
those are your best bets...think Expansys is based in Manchester but dont know if they allow you to go there and pick up the phone...best to ring them i suppose.
I would recommend Play.com. Never had any problems with them and at the moment it's only £399.99 with free delivery. Others sell it for about £435 or £440.
Yeah, sorry, should have done a search, but battery was dying on the laptop and no plug in sight!
Anyway, thanks for the links guys. I did heard that expansys were selling non official versions and thats one reason I asked, I have used them before but for nothing really as expensive as this.
Thats really cheap for Play, I may used them since I have an account with them...somewhere!
Now I will have the agonising wait and ensuing dissapointment that when I wake up the postman hasn't brought it its going to be a LONG week!

The general consensus is that this is only if you're a business customer buying an additional handset for your account.
Surely if most places are selling it for £400+ Vodafone won't be giving them away with no contract?!
I saw the eBay one with the guy saying no GPS too - and got a bit worried about my pre order one. I actually emailed him and asked about it. He replied saying it was GPS Ready, but needed additional hardware. After a bit of research I emailed him back again saying I was sure it definately had it built in - within another day the auction had closed early!
Whether he'd done a quick sale, or realised his error - who knows?!
Play is the best price - unless you can get a bargain on eBay. Watch out for 'Next Day' sellers whos small print says a week+ unless you pay extra postage!
WARNING!!! if you buy from play.com in the UK, you'll have to pay VAT tax as the unit will probably be held up in customs.. reason being, Play.com ships from a tax free zone.
It's clearly stated in their terms & conditions that the customer is responsible for taxes. Read the fine print!!
2ndly, I called HTC UK the other day and they told me play.com isn't an authorised dealer so you won't get full UK warranty. I'm serious.. a girl at HTC told me...
If it is a USA order
If you are in the US, then the best place to buy the phone is from Ryan at Negri Electronics. I had a problem with the first two phones (the first was a power issue, the second was wifi). I emailed them in the morning, and by the afternoon I had a UPS overnight tracking order. They included return labels, and it was no questions asked. I have bought all my luxry phones starting back at the Nokia 8800 and up til now (yes I have a addiction for cell phones). NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE! The Diamond also registered on the HTC site. The phone is shrink wrapped in the retail package (he has a network, and actually travels to get the product on or before release that are not grey's). Price my be higher or lower but not by much. I trully think its worth it, because you don't have to wonder about what your are getting or when. They ship the next business day (I gotta give them credit on their speed and customer service. The answer emails right away, and phone calls are 99% answered, and messages are returned immediately.
Heres the direct link: DIAMOND- http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-unlocked-p-1506.html
DIAMOND PRO: http://www.negrielectronics.com/htc-touch-pro-p-1530.html
Desktop CRADLE: http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-desktop-cradle-g300-p-1526.html
Mine is perfect. They really have their business together.
PS: This is not an advertisement, this is my honest opinion. I have made purchase from expansys (paid for overnight, got it a week later).
Do we know when UK networks are gonna start selling these on contracts?
Im assuming all of them are branding this phone?

Tmobile will be doing them from end of the month from what i have heard..as for voda, orange and o2 they will be carrying it but dont really know when...possibly July??.
As for branding??..yep you can be 110% sure that they will be all branded to some extent. As usual Tmobile will make sure its locked to their network and probably Orange. Voda and o2 will probably sell it unlocked but with their branding on it.

Really??? hmm... call HTC and ask them I guess...
Mine shows up as 1 year as well... but with the following message:
Note: Your POP (Proof of Purchase) determines your warranty period. If you cannot provide your POP, your product will be warranted within the above period.
any ideas?? am I still entitled to 2 years warranty??

[Q] Is it possible to purchase the Droid 3 in Denmark?

Hey guys i just wanna know is it possible to purchase the Droid 3 in Denmark without its locked to a carrier? and will it work with the types of SIM cards that can be found here?
thanks
Most europeans either buy from ebay or from here:
https://negrielectronics.com/motorola-xt862-droid-3-verizon.html
It works for me in the netherlands, so I don't see how it wouldn't work in Denmark.
There have been some issues with certain providers though, so I can't say i'm 100% sure

hahaha...sorry mate!
Hello dear neighbour! I bought mine from negri, and didn't have to pay customs etc, it's basically luck or bad luck.
Visit www.tradera.com (swedish auction site) there's one for sale right now.
contact the seller and ask him if he'd be able to send it to denmark!
Furthermore, i love the device, it's the quickest one i've held in my hands. The battery sucks tho, will last a day if you barley use it. Half day if you're using it all the time.
The screen is awesome, the phone doesn't scratch anywhere besides on the camera.
Typing from the droid, awesome keyboard.
Also, i've had no problems with simcards. Great reception and i managed to get 4.5mbit/s with tptest while in my car. If there's any questions, ask! I just enjoyed writing a long reply and abusing my keyboard lol.
I also have an as new unlocked D3 I can ship to you from England
Thanks
Thanks for the answers, think that will be my next mobile once i've have the money

Never buy an lg phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got burned by LG. I bought the Optimus 4X HD. Was a great phone so I thought. 3 weeks in to owning the phone the screen turned half black half white. I contacted LG to have it replaced under warranty. TO MY SURPRISE, I was told by LG USA they couldn't help me because the phone was not meant to be sold in the USA, so I need to contact LG Global. I then was told by LG Global that because I live in the USA, only LG USA can help me. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a ****ty company. Their so bad they won't even warranty one of their phones. They would rather give their customers the run around. Well LESSON LEARNED. I WILL NEVER BUY OR RECOMMEND ANY PIECE OF **** LG PHONE EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks LG for burning your customers. Hope you don't mind me posting in every android forum I belong to, in order to warn potential new customers to STAY CLEAR OF ANYTHING TO DO WITH LG MOBILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

SIMONTS, You don't know me so keep your mouth shut. Or at least try and use your brain before you speak. I have not done a d**n thing except be duped by LG into buying their phone. I used the phone exactly 3 weeks and woke up on Christmas Day to a dead screen, so I appreciate it if you keep your mouth shut if you don't know me and know the whole story as you put it. If LG isn't going to honor their warranties when their product is sold to other countries that their product will work in, just not attended to sell their, THEY SHOULD PUT A DISCLAIMER ON THEIR PRODUCTS SAYING WE WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY.

P.S. I posted this on every forum I belong too, SimonTS, not just xda. I even posted it directly to the LG forum. I am trying to get the message across that LG is a piss poor company. Maybe you break your phones and try to get them repaired under warranty, maybe that is why you were the only one to say that, but some of us are actually honest people and expect companies we do business with to also be honest and honor their warranties, not to try and find loop holes around them.
Also I forgot to mention, I am no idiot. I did my research before just buying a phone that looked cool. I knew it was supposed to be covered under warranty if sold in the US. I even got confirmation of that, when an LG employee said LG products sold in the US are suppose to be covered under warranty by LG Global. It has nothing to do with being an international GSM phone, like I said I DO MY RESEARCH FIRST, I just wasn't expecting to be lied to by a company that is supposedly to be trying to turn their image around.
You should add in US :silly:

actually not,
LG Denmark acts the same on purchase of LG products not released or sold in Denmark. if you buy their mobile from Germany, you send it to Germany even if they got european warranty , if you buy their euro TV product and its not possible to chose danish, you need to get it fixed in origin country since LG Denmark is not supporting it. their euro warranty in the manual seems to be alot of BS just written to look nice, its not actually being used if you try to use it.
LG finds alot of ways to make the purchase very much like Apple, with restrictions, protection and bad service behaviour.
LG is still just the goldstar product which we were used to with the lowend customer range and bad service expected in lowrange product, they still havent found out that they try to sell to respectable customers and they expect service. Sad for them.
Their stock value is the best example, being dumped and still below 50% of what it was worth like 1.5-2 years ago , before the crisis happened it was at least 200% its current value so they lost alot due to bad sales.

I think that depends not only of LG but also on the market policy of each country.
Here in Poland its "Katastrofa" too, not only the warranty but the sell policy it self.
In Portugal, when I buy a new equipment, not only phones... computers, wash machines, tv, etc... I have 15 days to try it and activate the warranty. Its enough if the product don't satisfy me, and I can take it back (with all accessories and boxes) and change it or get my money back (in case of defect).
All selled products (2nd hand cars too when in a certified seller) have 2 years at least of warranty. Its mandatory by law.
Sometimes (Seat for example...) try to keep rolling and rolling the time with papers issues trying to arrive the end of warranty to don't pay but, if someone is smart enough (or not a dumb) they need to pay or take care of the problem.
LG might have theyr policies but under a county law I think there's nothing they can do.

no matter what country you live in, the euro warranty cover, LG puts in the manual, means you can get it repaired in any country no matter where you live under the country warranty rules.
secondly, you got legal rights which differs, but the euro warranty normally holds water for philips and sony and other products, exception is Panasonic, they offer it, but neglect to live up to the euro warranty they got as well on some products.
you can have 3,6 or 2 years country specific warranty cover, which companies should live up to, but the euro warranty is all about EU rules and how products can be sold cross borders and still carry the warranty with it.
but no matter what, LG is one of those companies not accepting it without legal consequences, since its something EU needs to take care of. they really just do mega business care , small business is locally handled which means not at all. and they can play Korean kommunism all the way to their customer.

Troll. The lesson learned is don't buy a f*****g international GSM phone! Its the same with HTC. When I bought a HTC One X from overseas and got the screen of death, HTC gave me the run around. Also another lesson learned, if you buy an International unlocked gsm phone buy SquareTrade warranty for it. Anything that happens with the phone, SquareTrade will refund you whatever you paid for the phone or any electronic device that is.

I doubt this is nearly as bad as you're exaggerating. Ease off the caps lock.
Sorry about ur bad experience. But pretty much every product you buy is always restricted to the country or at least continent. Europe is different then us and wise versa. Normally u can't return a usa smartphone in Europe because they don't for the most cases sell sim locked and branded phones and in the usa u normally can't get no sim locked and unbranded phones. That is one of the major issues. I work for Apple yes freaking apple and it is the same way. At least we try to contact the right department for the costumer and try to get it resolved in the same call. And no I do not own any apple products myself. I don't want to.

If you had been a member of the board for a while and had a good reputation then you might be worth listening to - instead you come across as someone who has tried to do something that they know is not right and then has thrown his toys out of the pram just because he doesn't get his own way.
As various other members have stated, LG have certainly done nothing wrong legally, and I don't believe they have done anything wrong morally either.
You won't buy another LG - I'm sure they'll be as heartbroken as the rest of us are

49.99 on T mobile

I think it is on sale for 49.99 on T mobile website now
could that price attract more people to develop for this phone?

Yes it is. I don't know if this will attract many more people to the device though. That would be nice to have more devlopment.
Best Buy has been Price Matching them for $50. I got 2 there, Firmware was D41510e now D41510c with TowelRoot
Thanks to Ilxaot

Same here. This phone is amazing, totally worth $150, but even more awesome for $50.
I just got done flashing back to 10c firmware and I'm trying to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery. Looking for a stock ROM without all the bloat - CM11 sounds awesome but it looks like there are still a few issues (no video recording/playback and camera not taking pretty pictures - though I have to read and see if any of that has been fixed).
Well that was fun.
Just got back from a local Best Buy here in Las Vegas, I called ahead of time to check stock and to verify their "Price Match Guarantee" thing - I could have just ordered it from T-Mobile's website but, why wait a week for it to ship if I can get it tonight, right?
So, on the phone they try and blow me off constantly: the first girl I spoke with said they wouldn't price match, the second said they wouldn't price match if it's not in stock, then I got someone to ask the Manager (who would not speak with me on the phone, oddly enough) and he said they wouldn't honor the Price Match Guarantee on any cellular phone even in spite of that being totally inaccurate. I finished the call by saying "You'll honor it when I get there..." and then promptly ended the call.
Go to the store a half hour later, get the second phone from the shelf - the first one the girl handed me didn't even have a phone in the box, oops... - and then went to Customer Service and asked for the Manager, who came out from the back area and wondered just what I wanted (it was like 5 mins to closing time).
I said I need to price match the LG L90 with T-Mobile's current full retail pricing online at $49.99 and then he basically went into full damage control mode and did like 15 rebuttals to me about why they couldn't/shouldn't/wouldn't match the price: he whipped out his smartphone and started doing research, checked the T-Mobile site but kept hitting the "Add to cart" button before the page even loaded and I kept saying "You have to let the page load first so you can see the actual price."
He just kept at it for nearly 10 mins trying to show me it required activation - I replied "Nope, it's the full retail price at $49.99 and they are offering you the SIM activation kit for another $15 (which is crazy since the L90 comes with a brand new unactivated SIM in the box, I mean really). He kept sticking to his story that it required you to activate it and I kept saying "No, you're wrong there because it's a prepaid device and if it was in stock in the stores I could get it and not deal with any of that and activate it at home when I wanted." He jumped on the "not in stock" thing and I said no, they're out of stock in the local stores here (which they are when I called to ask) but this is an online price for an online retailer and he knew I wasn't going to back down.
I said "Look, there's two outcomes here: 1) you sell me the price matched smartphone and I leave a happy customer and continue doing business with Best Buy in the future, or 2) you don't honor your own policy for the Price Match Guarantee, I leave pissed off, angry, and frustrated, I go home and order it from T-Mobile online for the same price, you lose a customer forever, and then I hand-write (not email) a nice detailed letter to the Vice-President for Customer Relations at Best Buy Corporate about my experience here where I'm 100% in the right and within 48 hours of his Executive Assistant getting the letter I'll get a phone call, an apology, and at least a $50 Best Buy Gift Card for the hassle you ended up causing me tonight."
He didn't like that very much, nor do I think he likes me either but, for a change this customer actually was right.
So I got the phone for the $49.99+tax as I expected when I walked in, proof below...
Tips if you want 'em:
- Best Buy's Price Match Guarantee states that in order for the price match to be available, the actual web page at Best Buy's website must say "PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE" on the page just above the price - the LG L90 does say that so, that's one
- If you read deeper into the Best Buy Price Match Guarantee guidelines there's a disclaimer about contract cell phones - they are excluded from the price match guarantee directly - and I made it clear that I knew this and that this is not a contract phone, it's a prepaid phone - that's two
So the Manager had no actual ground to stand on and was left with no choice but to honor the Price Match Guarantee as written on their website and also on a flyer in their stores (you have to ask to see it, actually, they don't post it for their own silly reasons).
Anyway, just earlier tonight I was looking at craigslist for an L90 believe it or not and decided to check in here for info about any updates, root, bootloader unlocking, etc, and lo and behold I caught this thread so, thank you for sharing the information, OP...
So far I like it overall. Coming from a G2 it's a bit of a letdown of course but, after some tweaking and other playing around I'm sure I'll like it even more.

I am surprisingly happy with this phone. I thought it would be a big step back from my galaxy s4 but I am pretty happy with it. My s4 had sim card issues.
My biggest complaint is that it is not 4g LTE.

I'm with you. I shelved my G3 for the past couple of weeks.

I think the cheaper price point will bring more users, probably not many more people developing. Either way good price for the phone.
I believe the only negative impact would end up falling on LG as opposed to T-Mo as LG has allowed T-Mobile to cripple the device with the 10e firmware update. Be forewarned, if you get it now, it'll have that firmware pre-installed and it's a fuss to get it rolled back to 10c to root and then another pain to be able to access a recovery.
I able to get this phone from my work. (Big retail box chain in US. Guess what? They price match!) I liked around the specs for this and was pleasantly surprised about the performance for the price. I walked out with the phone for under $100 and am happy with this device. Always Always look at competitor pricing and find a place that can give you guarantees. Sorry about that terrible experience @br0adband!
Regardless this is a great phone with great specs at a great price, MSRP or not. I might even learn a thing and try my own mods if it isn't rocket science!

Got duped LG-V40 Thinq Simlocked/Blacklisted

Hi
As the tittle suggests i got duped with a v40 i bought in Ebay a while back, i was looking for a new phone with good sound quality and came across the v40 with all the Dac's and so forth sound quality is amazing, as much on headphones or connected to the car stereo receiver, so i am quite a noob with smartphones don't really got much into to it, so i just went on Ebay bought this phone, awesome because now i had music at work high fidelity style, but it was simlocked, actually the obvious thing to do was contact the seller and send it back (USA) but i did not because i was still living in a reality that all phones could still be easily unlocked, i was working in Holland at the time and when the corona hit after a few weeks i had to come back to Portugal and with a lot of free time in my hands i started on the quest to unlock the beast but no good, i used a few services to unlock but none can get the code, can not find any software neither and i came across a blacklist check site and there it was :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops: the phone is blacklisted because the owner missed payment and probably that is why they can not get the code, so my obvoius question is there any way i can unlock it? i do use the phone for music, GPS routed thru my old phone for data connection, and go to the web when i am at a place with WiFi but would like to use it as my main phone.
Thank you guys.
No way to get around it that I know of. What was the ebay sellers name? Curious if it's the same seller that sold me one that was brand new factory sealed. I just returned it and got my money back eventually. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same seller and he tried to resell it. Seemed like a shady character after trying to get a refund.
Sorry to say, but you own a hot phone. It was sold illegally by the original owner who didn't technically fully own it themselves. If you pay off the original debt, that may remove it from the ban list.

Yes it seems like it, well i see that as a lesson learned, i did contacted At&t in the USA they told me that they can not do anything about it and that i had to speak to the seller, too late for that now, i guess i just keep on using it as a supped up Flac player lol and it is awesome for it, next time i will cash out a bit more and buy from the shop
you can buy a used unlocked motherboard from Aliexpress for around 70USD and swap the motherboards. Thats what I ended up doing.
