Just gotta post this... (Update: No boot) - Dell Streak 7

So after a couple days of f***ing around I have got CM9 compiled!
Haven't flashed it yet (fixing fast boot/NVFlash for disaster recovery purposes)
Will update this post as soon as I have, although I HIGHLY doubt it's even going to boot at this point due to the fact that I had to remove A LOT of proprietary crap just to get this to build.
Either way exciting stuff!
Big thanks go out to giveen and DJ_Steve for all the amazing work they have put into this, as well as for releasing their device tree.
Update 1
Well I flashed it and as expected it did not boot. Stayed on the DELL logo the whole time. Damn

I could have told ya it wasn't going to boot, lol.
Good job with your work though. I'm looking into the laws/rules of the "vendor/nvidia" directory"

Awesome, the last piece of the puzzle will soon (hopefully) be with-in my reach

I'm waiting for some answers from several places I posted. I don't think I am violating any copyright laws, but I need to check first.
Also DerArtem (a Folio 100/Thrive) developer said that we need to manually create the system.img to get it to boot, and I've asked Steve a few times to write me a guide to compiling the AOSP for our device but he never responded so I am assuming he is busy as usual trying to get things in his life in order.

Yeah I saw. Doesn't look like he's got a lot of time on his hands these days :/

Yeah, at least he managed to give me a quick PM on Twitter to let me know it was okay for me to release our work.

hmmm...
Upon further inspection of my builds of cm I am noticing a very large difference in system.img size.
The system.img from ICS-B4 is 344,064 KB
My CM9 build is coming in at 176,188 KB
It's like half the size! wtf? Seems like I've got a longer road ahead of me than I thought

Just for S&G's I flashed the system image from ICS-B4 and kept my boot image flashed, and it actually booted! So at least the boot image is getting created properly lol.
I took a look at the contents of the system that was compiled and it is definitely missing some important, but normally common, files.
To name the first one that prevents boot 'sh'.
Like why isn't that getting put into the system image? You would think that would be installed by default!

HC replaced SH with ASH, SH isnt even included in stock 3.x.
Previously it was a symlink to toolbox (i believe), now it simply points to nothing/isnt there.
Unless you're rooted, the only things that have access to the shell is the system itself, so you could just remove it and have them all point directly to ASH.
There might be an export to define what shell is being used (dunno if it's valid on android), but dropping SH isnt an issue when users arnt normally allowed access.

So what would cause adb to say "/system/bin/sh does not exist"?
Just curious since you seem to know a thing or two about this XP

I cant say, if CM9 really is still using SH, it would include it as CM has it's dependencies already included.
Is busybox and toolbox properly compiled and symlinked in your rom at least?
Busybox includes the basic SH as a symlink (i think)
You could always grab your own SH/ASH/BASH from somewhere and add it in+symlink it and see if it boots to begin with.

snarg, check your PM

Progress...
A logcat after my last build
Had to use the boot.img from ICS-B4 but it's progress
http://pastebin.com/YmVD8pn6

I made a few changes, that might resolve the boot.img issue.

Excellent job!
Excellent, all seems good and ready to go even before I get my device this week. Now we need someone to port CyanogenMod
Effin awesome! Device shipped out today, I can't wait to start modding!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!
Tested on my adam with pixel qi and wifi. It appears to work great! Although, the up and down is reversed. One more thing, you should port over the touchscreen calibration option from the stock recovery to cwm, then it will be complete.
Great work!
cant wait to test this out, anything in particular that needs testing?

I guess any of the features in clockworkmod that are not mentioned as tested in the OP. I'm going to hopefully work on it some more when I get back from my work trip at the end of this week.

ok, Thus far I have noticed adb reboot recovery now works from command prompt on windows 64bit, it didnt work with 3e. I will do a few other tests later.
Latest update on 02/06/11 fixes the backwards button issue.
Excellent work. This is quite essential for any further developments.

I redirect to that so I don't HAVE to update multiple sites. I can update one link and be done with it. By your standards, there is a lot of spam on XDA.
Do you not update these lines anyway:
Run the update.zip(named cwmod3005_020611.zip)
Clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 for Notion Ink Adam - 020611
Its still spam.

I did this time, but as time commitments changed I'm not guaranteed to. Just like when people cross post anything I maintain on XDA to another forum. I ask them just to copy over anything they want except for the download link. Therefor, I don't have to go rounding up posts to make sure they are all up to date. They follow back to the one key place I'm maintaining them, which for the adam is notioninkhacks. The reason being the focused device forums give much more separate forum options, like bug tracking we are starting there. The reason I'm a mod is so I can test and move bug tracking items to forums.
Man, ungrateful, entitled, neurotic pricks like yourself make this hobby a lot less enjoyable.
Rothnic - please ignore daml. I don't understand why he's being so ungrateful. You're spending your personal time to release something that benefits the whole community. The rest of us appreciate the effort that you are spending putting together ROMS like this!
Keep up the great work and don't let the haters get to you!
Keep up the good work!!
Cant wait till my adam comes this week hopefully.. I will test and report anything out of the ordinary. Much love!!
Looking good - my Adam is currently 'shipping in progress' but when I get it this is one of the first things I'll be loading on there - great work!
Works great, thanks for this.
thank you.. works great for me. love the security of having my rom all backed up

CDMA VZW Tab update

just got an OTA update for my tab today - anyone know what the changes are? i clicked past the "for more information visit" accidently before i read the site i was supposed to visit.
Firmware Version 2.2
Baseband Version S:I800.0.3V.DL21
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
I don't know what it does yet, but there doesn't seem to be much change
Found this on the website but doesn't sound like it is that great.
http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/galaxy_tab.pdf
Does anyone know if it messes up root or EXT file systems?
don't know about ext but I still have root.
Well, mine popped up, I clicked more info (which gave no real information) and then clicked restart and install. It did neither, restart or install. When I check for updates, says I am up to date and my baseband is not as listed above....not sure what happened here.
If someone can capture the upgrade file and post it, I would appreciated it.

Enhanced browser performance and speed.
Searching for Wifi hotspots doesn't hurt battery life.
Improvements to e-mail, including proper linking, time in the status bar shows when the email was received, download Word docs, send multiple name cards, open 5MB video attachments, fonts better sized."

Hope this helps.

When I click on the dropbox link I'm getting thousands of lines of code, not a .zip. Am I doing something wrong?
I had same problem doing it from Chrome, worked from IE 9 thought and downloaded
Damn, I'm on a mac and neither Chrome, Safari, or Firefox work.
I have the file, but no place to post it....any ideas?
I don't really use dropbox or anything. Oh well, I'm sure it'll show up sooner or later. I can get it at work tomorrow on a PC. I appreciate the help.
No problem.
Wish I could have been more help.

Sorry, i've been traveling all day and did not realize that it wouldn't dl easily. I zipped the file so it should be easier to dl. I pulled it from my cache folder. Try it there. I still have not installed it as I don't know what effect ext files have on it. If you have successfully updated with ext file system, please post and let us know your results.

I really appreciate the effort, but I keep getting an error 403.
New link posted....let me know if this one fails and I'll try rapidshare.
Got it downloaded. Thanks. I'm a little worried as I'm rooted, bootstrapped, and have Clockwork recovery. Also, the zipped file contains only an htm file. I may wait on this.
I have put the update.zip on rapidshare for anyone that wants it

Anyone having this update fail half way through the process? I was rooted, but restore the stock image through heimdall. I did a cache / data format before running the update and it fails everytime. Any suggestions?

Anyone confirm this is working on Nexus S 4G (or Nexus S)?
It works flawlessly on my nexus s (9020T)
Not compatible?
Interestingly, the Play Store returns "no results found" when attempting to get AniBoot on my 'phone, and trying through a computer (via the supplied URL) I'm given this pearl of wisdom when I try to install: "This item is not compatible with your device."
Tried with two I9023s, one running CM9 and the other JellyBelly.
Any thoughts/hints/ideas?

For everyone running jellybean and such, It won't work due to permission errors that won't stick with su. (I'm having the worst luck with chmoding the system right now, don't ask me why it's not working cause i have no freaking clue.) But it will work for cm9 and below.
I don't remember if i actually took it off of the phone because a lot of gave the app bad reviews on that single device. That is why it doesn't say that. Is it confirmed that it was working previous to the change? If so, i'll put it back up.

Thanks for the update. The flavour of CM9 I'm running (for the next few days, until I upgrade that 'phone to JellyBelly too) is a Kang concoction, which I suspect contains more JB than ICS (the Android version shows 4.0.4, but clicking on it to get the "Easter Egg" reveals the JB screen).

I can't confirm or dispute that, as this is the first time I've come looking for it. Prior to now, I've just been manually pushing boot animations (both self-created and downloaded from various sites including XDA) with ADB.

[OUDHS] Shabby-kernel (temp name)

here is a kernel i compiled from source, the only edits to it so far are in the ramdisk. this is all beta stuff and not taken from sprint source.

removed logmein service (binaries are still in /system/bin)
next version will have bootanimation support, promise

Shabby, i have missed you. Thanks for this. Quick question. Do you have any idea how to remove the vibrate when the phone first starts? I like to restart my phone while i am sleeping and it keeps waking me up. not sure if it is the kernal, rom, or the phone itself. Thanks again!
would it be possible to get the frandom module included in this kernel? aka frandom.ko ? here is a link to the tarball.

im adding bootanimation support and making the guide on how to compile and leaving it for the fine people of this forum to work on. sorry but digging through hundreds of thousands of line of code to try and find one modules source in a tar is not fun (its why i believe xda should enfore github like source).
once i have those two things up im hoping people who have the sgs4 will step forward and take over development

[HELP] Weirdo - my LED stopped working due to empty parameters!

Hi everyone,
recently the LED notification light on my RAZR i stopped working. Well it still lights up at boot, but after that, none.
I've tried all I could think of:
- Xposed: enable/disable/uninstall
- Apps: Light flow, GravityBox, Xblast Tools
- Motorola Notification Enable/Disable widget
- ROM: Omar's previews versions, other ROMs, Stock ROMTrying all that, nothing worked.
Somebody tipped me on the parameter for the LED in this folder:
Code:
sys/class/leds
and as a matter of fact, there's nothing in there - it should contain the parameter to control the LED, I guess. This folder isn't include in any full ROM image, and I have no idea how/why it was deleted on my device.
So I'm posting this big HELP sign here, and hope that somebody would send me the content of this folder, or help me with a sollution to this problem.
Without the notification light, it's REALLY frustrating
Please, help...
Thanks a lot!
Yep it should contain all the information about the led. its build up at run time when the phone starts. The kernel, battery lib and android framework should modify and add things to it. In your case it clearly does not. Have u tried a full reflash with rsd lite (latest firmware version). If not i can give u my content (doesn't contain personal data) and hope that can help.
thanks, like i said, i tried returning to stock with rsd lite, tested it, flashed Omar's ROM, tested again, it's still empty.
It'll be great if you could send me these files, i guess they are all general for all devices and shouldn't cause any problem.
great thank in advance!
Update:
Returned to Stock again (this one: CFC_9.8.2I-50_SMI-26_S7_USASMIJBRTEU), installed TWRP, browse to sys/class/leds, there's only charging file in there. Please note that I đi let the phone boot up and etc. so if anything should be created automatically from the system, they should have already been put there.
Longing for your files, Hazou!!!!
Looked today at it again. I should have known that those files cant be extracted and inserted in your device. Those files technically don't exist.
I will try to look at a solution today. i will update this post. But don't expect to much, new terrain here
thank you a lot, for the will to try and help me! I still can't figure out what deleted those files, they don't seem to ever be altered by any app, and it's weird that even Stock image doesn't include them, which mean they should be generated by the system, presumably at boot.
The only thing I find in there is the charging file - but even with this, LED doesn't show up during charge :|
Am I the only one having this problem?!
those parameters should be created at boot by the kernel. After the kernel is boot the ramdisk chances ownership of the files so the system can use them.
Here are the real paths of the led parameters: sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.3/i2c-4/4-0067/leds
If u don't have those, there is a possibility that your leds are in someway broken. Maybe the driver is broken lm2755.
thank you for the feedback.i checked the path, here's the content:

no leds, no surprise
do you have any suggestion what i should do now?
also, i just think it might be relevant to mention that, i randomly loose vibration. this means, vibration is lost GLOBALLY - navbar, long press power button, no haptic feedback whatsoever! it even lasts until after reboot (full reboot, where green led shows up, along with short vibrations - test pattern i guess).
this has been happening for some time now. the vibration does come back after some time, but unpredictably, or i haven't been able to find a path to it yet.
the lost of vibration normally happens when actively using the phone - it's never lost when i unlock, if it still worked before that.
at first i thought it's just a bug due to some xposed module, or rom's bug. Only today did i realize that this even goes to the boot up process. maybe, going that far to such a level, it might have something to do with the led problem too.
what do you think about all these, Hazou?
Look at the file modulair as text. See what is in it. It should state the driver. Lm2755. I wil look for a way to reload the driver. Maybe with the reloading it will solf soms thing.
Verstuurd van mijn XT890
yep, it says
i2c:lm2755
thank you for your help!
