ICS update rollout? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondered how long it takes Samsung to roll out an update normally? ICS has been out only in Germany, and, its been a few days with no other countries seeing an update.
This is my first Samsung (and Android) device, so quite interested!
I live in the UK and have a Sim-free handset from Amazon UK.

Thanks,
As in an update to the current ICS (LPY) version, as if the one out now is a beta?
Interesting!!

Nah it is official release, but as it has many issues I don't think they roll it out to other country's so as it is. So they will produce a new one, I guess they will roll it out on Germany first, as I have mentioned on other threads it is like the la1 a buggy gingerbread at mid of January's if I remember right.

The same thing happened with the galaxy s2, the initial ics rollout had so many issues, everyone had to revert. I don't think the issues where quite as severe as ours though

Best/Correct Stock Unrooted ROM for USA?

While I'm no noob when it comes to Android/rooting/flashing, this is my first unlocked overseas phone. As soon as I unboxed it I immediately used ODIN to flash the latest Open European Stock ROM and am still running stock unrooted and will probably stay that way. I've never had all of these options before as far as stock ROM's go with all of the different versions for different countries, and I keep reading about a ROM from a certain country is getting a newer update than mine, etc. So my question is am I on the best/correct stock ROM (latest Open European) for using the phone in the USA on Straight Talk? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anything obviously, but since I have no need for an Arabic keyboard for example would it cause me possible issues to flash an Arabic ROM if it's newer and would there even be any advantages for me? I hope my question makes sense (pretty tired at the moment), and it goes without saying that I mean no offense to people that do need Arabic, it was just an example.

Well the more reading that I do it seems as though Germany gets the latest and greatest first, so I might try the new LB1 Open Germany tomorrow morning since it's a non-wipe...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
OK, so I loaded the new LB1 Open Germany yesterday morning, but it looks like I also need to change my CSC from KOR to DBT to match, which will unfortunately wipe my phone.
Before I proceed does anyone have any answers to my original question? Is the LB1 Open Germany ROM the best choice for running on Straight Talk in the US or would I be better off with a different ROM/CSC? My concern of course is the best compatibility in the US, but if the ROM choice doesn't matter for that then I'd like to pick the one that gets the newest OTA updates first, which I think is Germany from the reading I've done.
Thanks!
I too wish someone else would chime in. I am also on straight talk. This is also my first international phone. I flashed from kk1 to la3 open europe. After 1 day of use it looks like this has worse battery life than kk1 Hong Kong. I'm rooted with 1 percent mod and crt off. Android OS is the dominant process even with my screen timeout set to 10 minutes and me leaving it on constantly. Over 3 hours i think it was...cleared my stats just now, ran batt to 0 for first time. I've only had the phone 3 days but I'm lovin it.
Looking for stock builds to hold me over until the inevitable official ice cream sandwich release
---------- Post added at 03:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:30 AM ----------
Oh and since i obviously don't post alot, i have to say so far both builds feel slow to turn on. And home jump is laggy. Lock screen was slow on kk1, fine on la3. Hope someone finds this info useful...
I would be interested as well. I am usung the stock KK1 that my phone came with and want to stick with non-custom roms for now. Thanks!

If you are on the Hong Kong KK1, there was an update to LA2 a few weeks back which includes all the newer features.
Regarding CSC, you only need to change it if you want to get OTA upgrades for the rom, but since you are happy flashing via ODIN, why bother changing it.

I guess I'm just anal and would like my phone to be set up perfectly. And although I'm quite happy to just use ODIN (and probably will to get ICS sooner) I read in another thread that my CSC not matching is why my APN won't auto configure. Not sure if that's true for sure, but mine won't and I've had all kinds of trouble with data this week.

I see that this LA2 is not rootable and that I will lose root if I flash it. Is that correct? I also see that it will wipe the device. If it is worth it, I could flash it and then wait for ICS. This is really an interim solution until an official ICS build is released. Thanks!

Being a relative newb here, what is Straight Talk? I presume it is a method of network identification but otherwise I have no clue. I have read, however, that some other folks' notes' APNS's did automatically get configured and am wondering why mine didn't. Thanks!

Straight Talk is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that uses (resells) AT&T and T-Mobile under their own name. It's a great deal because it's $45 a month for unlimited everything, although I hear you should keep under 2GB (or 3GB) per month.

Lb1 after 1 day feels good. Doesnt wake as fast as it could...but better. Home jump still slow. O well better battery thus far, os is not dominant!
By the way, check the theme section if you want cwm flashable crt off and batt percent, i made a package for lb1

First Android 4.0.3 firmwares for Galaxy Tab 2 online!

Is this gonna make our TAB 10.1 work with a Camera too?
Here are the firmware details:
P3100XWALD2_P3100OJVALD3_OJV
P5100XXALD6_P5100OJVALD4_OJV

I tried the check for update option on my phone yesterday without joy but then connected via Kies at it was there.
It might be because I got my handset before official uk launch and was therefore imported from Europe?
i hate the way that the uk always seems to get everything last
as for OP, just checkecd kies again, nothing
Still nothing on wifi or kies, UK sucks, we give so much to many countries n always get everything last, so annoying

I can tell you when this update will arrive. I'm going to be out of the country next week, I bet the update lands just after I walk through airport security and can't update until I get back. Either that or when I fly out again in July. I just have a jinx for things like this.

Ironic that there are developing and commercially marginal nations (Nepal???) that are getting Samsung love before the UK, France, Sweden, Ireland etc...
Makes me feel so valuable as a customer.
I know the feeling, another thing that is annoying is they are already talking about jelly bean and a galaxy note 2 which has a possible release date for autumn, sort of takes the Mickey a bit ay

The way global rollouts work is that they often release the software to nations with very few of the devices and see if there is a significant spike in errors/bugs/repairs and then roll it out to nations with larger numbers of device users
them avoiding the uk is a blessing because: do you want to do a firmware update to a firmware that can brick your phone?
just wait until the bugs have been ironed out and then we will get it
id much rather wait an extra month and have a decent rom than flash a half-baked rom and then go through all the hassle of getting my device repaired!
and anyway, if your so desperate to go ics - grow a pair and flash it yourself
I have a German Note (imported from amazon.de) and got the ICS update through Kies as soon as it was released.
First impression - I really didn't know what all the fuss was about.
Second impression - What is it with all these wakelocks and battery drains?
Third impression - Maybe it's a little smoother when running properly, but not chalk and cheese in performance.
I'm sticking with ICS, because it's working for me and I can't be bothered to fiddle-ass about, but I wouldn't lose sleep over any delays, especially if it means getting a better product and less fracking about trying to get the damn thing to run smoothly.
Fair points there, just makes ya wonder why they are already talking about the next update and next phone when they haven't perfected this one yet, PS I would flash roms but I had a galaxy s 1 and it's so hit and miss finding a ROM that a suits the operator

Android 4.3 update, who's still waiting?

I know we have a lot of threads discussing 4.3 already, but those seem to be for people who have successfully downloaded it and worked with it. I'm curious to see how many others are still waiting on the update. I live in Canada and so far I've seen no sign of it, my device tells me I'm still up to date with 4.2.2. I don't have 3G but I regularly connect to WiFi.
It's not a very big deal... the update doesn't seem to have much that I need, except maybe a slightly faster speed when doing things. But yeah, I'm curious. Share your locations if you're still waiting.
EDIT: I really wish there was a way to edit the titles for threads...
EDIT 2: Thank you for that.

I have flashed the UK and it works great. Why wait? It is an official release, just for the UK. I think US get last on a lot because of all he laws/regulations and the number of users. Release it to the lower number to filter out the bugs. If all is well release to the rest.
Then donĀ“t buy Samsung. Over here in Mexico we dont get any more support than in USA and Canada and we are not whining about it.

One issue with the UK is that you still have to put on the hacked email app to be able to get Microsoft exchange notifications. I am hoping that they fix the manager and gear update to take care of this problem. Also I have notifications working now but they get stacked on top of each other in Exchange, when several come in close together.
That's my issue too. I don't want to use a broken exchange solution just to get the mail that should be working . I am NOT a big complainer but this too has really pushed my button expect more from Samsung on this particular for us early adopters

This is not a "problem/bug" its a security layer implemented by Samsung..
Exchange mail requires a pass lock to be active on Samsung's official app. You may use exchange mail as a every day feature, although people use it mainly for business purposes.
Reason why they force you to view it on your device, your device should be secured with keyguard so your identity can be verified before displaying the email.
Well if that was the case why did the first version work?

Not Whining...
Is just the principal..
You never leave US out...
We the largest consumers in Electronics..
What pisses me of is some of these countries with the update probably have 10 people that own the device.
Lol there's a hostile mob in this thread.
There's nothing wrong with pointing out that the US was left behind with these updates. Yes, I could break out Odin and manually update the Gear myself (and I did exactly that). However, it's ridiculous that the update is taking this long for US customers. I mean, is there a reason why this should be the case? It's going to be the exact same update that everyone else received.
I just don't get it. And frankly I don't understand why you guys are being so passive about it. If the firmware had not been made available by samsungupdates, then everyone would still be **** out of luck.
Running UK version myself but what the heck. Every time someone posts a thread about the US update all the stupid people come out and tell us to install the UK version. My gear IS NOT working flawlessly unless I happen to have a phone from the UK too. As many have pointed out, exchange does NOT work and its not that way because of security trying to protect us. Or is it just people in the US that needs this so called security feature.
Exchange in Europe works with UK ROM, exchange in US plus UK ROM/firmware =FAIL.
If you don't need exchange...good for you, but don't say UK firmware works flawlessly for US customers. It just works flawlessly for the features you happen to use.
