You can check lib/modules/ to see if is there tun.ko module !!!

I installed firmware before you responded.
Thank you surdu_petru!
VPN support is in.
Browsing to lib/modules/ I see no tun.ko though.

should not be ....
should not be ....
I continue riding the loop
practice in the installation, the tablet starts but if I turn it off at the next reboot would always live as if part of the new rom (upgrade Android ...)
retraced to 4.06 waiting for better times
thanks

Working fine after upgrading. You're the man!
Thanks for the tip and the super quick reply.

thanks
works perfectly
resul quadrant
cpu - 6809
mem - 2459
i/o - 1116
2d - 990
3d - 1612
total - 2597
with fly overclocking
you can do nothing for the market that does not load some app (antutu, amazon etc..)
I tried changing the build.prop but even if the device is seen from a google samsung, the app will still not be compatible
grazie

Hi, I need a root rom with a kernel that supports "loop devices". Does this kernel update support "loop device"? Thanks in advance.
Best.

Nice, this firmware worked.
But are you not allowed to factory reset after using this? After factory reset I can't boot anymore.

GPS now working
Thanks for this Surdu. Can confirm that both the Archos stock and this ROM are compatible with GPS now (I get instant locks). I am a happy man.
BTW, is the kernal you included all the G9 to overclock? I have a 4460 and am getting quadrant score of 1781 with a max and min @ 1.2 GHz (Performance Governor).
Thanks,
smithmal

thanks again for your work surdu
is it possible to activate the bootanimation? i remember that it works in earlier firmwares.

just GREAT !

waiting for upload to finish that was very quick work sir!
I'm not sure if I'll update, in "test firmware thread" it was reported that pdf reading still is a problem for the 4.0.6 firmware.
BTW- initramfs are quite universal- ICS init still can boot honeycomb (Multiboot init works fine, Letama's init+cwm works fine but I didn't test CWM yet)
Hi, so this is 4.0.6 rooted based on the new fw that came out just today? NOT the test2 FW, right?

YES ! exactly ...
Thank you surdu_petru!
Do you suggest to wipe after the firmware upgrade from 4.0.5? Thanks.
great job
but i wait [email protected]
hi surdu_petru it may be useful, even if 100% should be a pure case. I have always had less trouble (crashes, reboots) with your "light rom" than other rom (ics blue / rooted rom). On my hot g9 101 the most stable rom is your "ICS Firmware 4.0.5 - Overclock Edition". thank you

hi, first I updated to standard 4.0.6, all ok. then installed this rom. with standard 4.0.6 wifi works, using rooted version wifi doesn't work. I have always "getting IP" and discnnects. ciao
Thanks!
So just basically, there isn't any way to gat the multiboot to work with both [email protected] and Stock rooted FW with multiboot? I don't really know how to handle your .update files. I currently have Ubuntu and [email protected] v1 in /data/local and modified Multiboot Kernel & initramfs. Could you tell me how to get this Stock rooted with my other images? Thanks

I think ( I'm not sure ..) ...you need to rename archos.ext4.update -> archos.ext4 for work in multiboot , also you can ask @sirduke989 !

One thing I wonder about: After installing this updated all my homescreens where reset to factory settings (all homescreens clear, only a few standard apps on homescreen 3).
Every other time I installed one of your modified ROMs or any of the original ROMs my homescreens stayed as I set them up before.
Am I the only one this happened to?
All the other settings where kept, only the homescreens where reset.
Yes me too. I guess the update reinstalls launcher. Try to make a backup for next time

Hi !
For me in the stock firmware 4.0.6 version I had a lot of random restarting !
- with this update , all seems to be OK !
If you do not have FC, and random reboot , you not need to update .....only if you use the VPN service.
Thank you for you work surdu_petru.
I had occasional random reboots after a freeze so far, so I'll give the update a try.
Thanks for your work !
I will test it this Week-End ...
Flashed it and it works, but now I encountered this problem.
If you do a full wipe from the Settings menu, the device freezes while booting. It's not a bootloop, just completely freezes on the Archos bootlogo.
Same thing happens when I then try to reboot from the Recovery menu, or even Format System and Reset Android and Storage. Boot freeze....
Any idea on this?
I have a 80G9

13 hour stresstest! wow that cannot be good for your CPU. was your tablet hot afterwards?
still a lot off crashes and reboots expecially using opera, veetle, sopcast etc. even a simply game like angry words freezes the tablet (when one is moving a tile..), pity. ciao

mmh, maybe stresstest is the wrong word in the conservative meaning. what i mean is, heavy usage of my favorite applications like adobe reader, dolphin hd, kindle, moon+ reader, stock browser, greader pro, kaiten mail, vs tv, softmaker office mobile (crashes 2 times, because beta i guess), calendar, meridian pro, pinball, picsay pro, raging thunder, titanium backup, skype, upnplay, google play store and some german news apps with a lot of video contents like zdf mediathek, tagesschau, heute and so on. all applications crashes after a while before update. seems, after update my main apps running stable now. btw. it's not only a gamepad (only for fun and relaxing) you see. my hotspot is information, working, watching tv/video and communication. i think, a real 'stresstest' (running cpu instructions in a loop thousands of times) is not close enough to my daily usage. i'm not a fan of overclocking (reduce life of hardware) only to get more speed.
beside this, i realized that skype has problems with audio now. i cannot receive any voice with audio and video calls. my counterpart can hear me, but my speaker keep silent. what a pity. until is fixed, i use reelportal to talk with my kids.
for my purpose it's much much better now. i have got many fc's/freezes/reboots while scrolling in contents when i used governor hotplug.
@hitman72:
opera crashes since honeycomb on my tablet and on my phones (pls see opera forum for all the pain ). it's not a really good reference. i use dolphin instead. not all fc's are caused by archos i mean. many apps in play store have a low quality and not really ported to ics hd. i don't except bugfree software all over.

Added S1tweak into init.d Yes or Not ???
We need S1tweak added in /system/etc/init.d for two processors to run proper ?
- I did some tests to find the answer ... look below :
First test - without ../init.d/S1tweak ( settings max. freq 1.2GHz , Governor = performance )
Quadrant ( cpu ) = 2890 / PassMark (cpu) = 2014
Second test - with ../init.d/S1tweak ( need reboot your device ) ( settings max. freq 1.2GHz , Governor = performance )
Quadrant (cpu) = 5742 / PassMark (cpu) = 4173
What makes practically this script :
- running this script on boot the device will run with the same performance for any selected Governor;
- however , the best performance still remains for Governor = hotplug !!!
Please , use this script only if you feel you need !!! ( one case would be if you use another governor than hotplug...and you need at the same time - high performance of the device !!! )

I would not reccomend you these actions. However Archos stuck numbers of G9 and G10 firmwares, I don't think they made inner content the same and compatable with both generations of tablets.

Yeah i realized that already, i guess they'll fix it soon... anyway i guess the Android system itself is O.K.
Maybe some problems with the bootloader or initrd...
In fact loader and avboot got updated as well.
The binary of avboot 5.05.000009 C0x00 is now half the size of the former binary while loader slightly increased.
Anyway hope we got a stable version soon and people might restore their devices.
Again thanks for your high speed action

Hi!
For root version you need to use the stock zImage ( builded from Archos).
So I not compiled any kernel for stock 4.0.24 root version.

HI
what's the best GOVERNOR for save battery duration??
Decided today to root and install SDE my new Archos g9 8gb and install this rooted rom, unfortunately as I had applied the standard 4.0.25 firmware there was an error when trying to install the SDE.
I tried returning to stock 4.0.7 but that now reports it is too old for my rom.
Looks like Ill be staying on the standard rom for some time yet lol
TrOjAn
****UPDATE****
Reading back I saw muti642 had the same issue, after trying the OLD outdated method I have now been able to install SDE and the latest rom.. thanks all

You do the right steps for install the last firmware 4.0.25 !
If you have problem with any app, please uninstall apk and try to reinstal from PlayStore!
Also you need to check what governor is the best on savebattery! , for sure is not hotplug!
Good luck!

( also for full compatibility please , first use English to see if is there some issue ! )
The best Governor for our tablet seems to be hotplug, is the only one who knows how to manage both processor cores !

The problem was error 221 or 223 depending on where I was and what I was doing.. basically::
On a NON rooted Archos 8gb 101 I updated to the official 4.0.25 (which worked) and then I wanted to install SDE / Root.
I was unable to do either using the newest ( link here ) method but the OLD method ( link here ) worked, that then allowed me to install SDE and then a custom rom.
On a side note: Can anything be done to improve the audio volume? When I watch a movie I have to use earphones as the speaker volume is too low?

the problem was only after doing the update from 4.0.24 to 4.0.25 installing the SDE was no longer possible error code 221.
to solve it took Roote and install the sde of the old method (with adb), I have the install your room.
