[Q] Experiencing various difficulties in rooting u9000, pointers, anyone? - Huawei Ideos X6

Aloha from the smoggy skies of Beijing.
I have recently purchased a Huawei u9000 from jingdong.com (China's equivalent of eBay), and have encountered a plethora of disappointments in trying to root the phone.
First, the phone (from the About section):
Model: HUAWEI-U9000
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: PR232
Kernel Version: Apps_2.6.32.9-perf
Build Number: U9000 V100R001C322B259SP00
Running these methods while using a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 laptop.
Here is what I have attempted:
1) SuperOneClick 2.3.3
Attempted with Auto (as rageagainstthecage was not listed as an option), no success.
2) SuperOneClick 1.7
This was quite annoying. I had read that rageagainstthecage was the silver bullet for most people's problems, but after reading the revision log I noted that it was no longer included in versions 1.8 onward. I have also read that version 1.7 is the recommended version to use with my phone, so I obtained a copy.
Here is where it gets annoying: everytime I unpacked the contents of the zip file into a directory, rageagainstthecage would simply disappear after a few seconds.
I am aware that rageagainstthecage is some sort of trojan, and so I killed both MSE and Comodo processes (those that I were able to, some of the Comodo ones were stubborn).
Every freaking time I extracted rageagainstthecage, it would vanish from the directory 5-10 seconds after extraction. My google-fu could not point me in the right direction, nor could I even find anyone else experiencing the same problem.
SuperOneClick would invariably freeze after the ninja file disappeared.
3) Snakebitezz method
(found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274972)
Steps followed:
a. Power down phone.
b. Reboot phone holding down power and Vol+ keys simultaneously
c. Plug in phone once download mode has been entered.
d. Access the drive once it is available in Windows
e. Make a copy of all files in the /image directory somewhere on my laptop.
f. Copy over files into /image and overwrite as prompted (recovery.img and META-INF directory) using the files linked in the post.
g. Copy su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip to the root directory of the drive (also downloaded from the post).
h. Eject, disconnect, remove battery.
i. Replace battery, while holding Vol+ & Vol-, power up the phone until it vibrates, at which point release the power button, but continue to hold in both Vol buttons.
j. Hit the search key, select install from zip, select install from zip again, and...
This is where I hit a wall on this method. The .zip file that I left in the root directory is not listed. I have tried several times with minor variations, and each time the .zip file is not listed, thus not an option, thus I can't progress any further.
Regarding this method, to the best of my knowledge I do *not* have BusyBox installed, though in the post it mentions that it is necessary, though it was not available for download in the post. Furthermore, it seems that I have read that to use BusyBox, the phone needs to be rooted. Regardless, I'm not sure where I can obtain BusyBox, as I am in China, and currently cannot access Google Play/Marketplace (this is one of the reasons I am hoping to root my phone).
4) GingerBreak APK
Using GingerBreak-v1.20.apk, I place the APK file on to my phone, install it, open it, and select the 'Root' option. I have left the phone running this option for 45 minutes with no change in screen, status, and without any reboots. I have read that others have had success while leaving GingerBreak running longer, but my luck has been such that I'm not sure if it would just be a waste of time for me while there are still other options that I have not attempted.
*Note: USB Debugging was on for each of the above methods.
So, here I am, seeking wisdom. Can anyone see from what I have listed any missteps that I have taken?
What other options (that have some nice guides available) are there?
I've read that people running Linux have had better luck, should I get my hands on an Ubuntu distro, and research the routes available through that OS? If possible, I'd like to do this without having to set up a dual boot machine~ I like Linux, but I'm still a Linux n00b and all the games I play are on Windows anyhow.
Your efforts are sincerely appreciated.
TLDR: With a Huawei U9000 have used two versions of SuperOneClick, Snakebitezz method, and GingerBreak APK, all without success. Seeking guidance.

hi
if all u want is to root and add CWM and try new roms then
id suggest u start reading here this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288293
details on all of the above is in that read do the needfull and enjoy ur new phone:good::laugh:

Thanks, but I have tried the methods for rooting listing on your post. Very nice compilation, by the way! It looks like it will be super useful once I finally get the phone rooted.
I'd like to add two more methods that I have tried that have been unsuccessful,
1) Unlock Root (program)
2) Z4Root (APK)
When using Snakebitezz method, does it matter how I put su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip into the root directory? Do I need to be in 'download mode' to place it there? Because when I try to locate it following the guideline, it doesn't show up in the list. All I see are the names of the directories accessible from the root directory. Would it matter if I tried putting the .zip in the root just by turning on USB transfer and dropping it in there (while it's *not* in 'download mode')?

Just curious, from the page inforall webs com/spicemi410.htm, it says that I should download clockworkmod recovery for Spice Mi410 from MediaFire, but the password listed on the page isn't working... Anyone have a direct link to this file or a working password?

I think the roll-up thread should be in General Category and not in Development because whenever people come to start a new thread in General they can see the stickied Roll Up thread, Just my $0.02

Success in rooting!
Perhaps I wasn't using the latest version of CWM? Or maybe it was because I loaded the file onto my SD card by taking it out of the phone and using the USB connector that the SD card came with? I don't know.
I used CWM 5.0.2.7 (touch enabled), and then used the same su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip file listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274972 and I finally got root! Heh heh, now, wait til I'm sober, and I'll start panning the threads for info on how to update the version of Android I'm running... Any good suggestions from people on a u9000?

Get HTC Legend in Recovery mode (for rooted phones)

Hello HTC mates,
This is my first post, despite the fact that I am a member since 2007. I am writing this post, because yesterday I could not download the attached zip, and I could not find a tutorial just for getting a Legend into recovery mode.
So:
Once you have a rooted device you can easily get into recovery mode by following the next steps:
- download the attached zip (it does not contain essential, but bigger files, needed for rooting)
- it is the same as in Paul`s post on modaco. I am not allowed to post links, as this is my first post, so google it, if you want to root your device.
After you have finished downloading:
- Unzip the file you downloaded to a directory, then open a command prompt / terminal window at that directory.
- You can enter recovery mode by turning your device on with the volume button held down and selecting 'RECOVERY', then running either 'recovery-windows.bat', './recovery-mac.sh' or './recovery-linux.sh' as appropriate from the root zip directory.
And that is all. Have fun!
Thread was made using Paul`s Legend rooting guide.
Thank you all, who worked so hard!

There is no solutin, as far as I know. I am happier with this one, if I have to send it back for warranty issues I can easily swich back to stock ROM.
hi there, i've tried this method to get my HTC legend into recovery mode, but with no luck. I get the following error:
push: files/sbin/unyaffs -> /sbin/unyaffs
failed to copy 'files/sbin/unyaffs' to '/sbin/unyaffs': Read-only file system
btw, I used pauls post to rot the phone.can anyone help me out? Im actually trying to install busybox and then dropbear so that i can run maintenance on the routers in my mesh network.
I think you need to be in recovery mode on your phone to run the recovery.bat/.sh file. You do this by turning on your phone holding down the back button and choosing recovery. It might be under fastboot. Then you will have permission to push the files.

How do I root my phone ? (I've read your guides but they are CONFUSING!!)

Here is my experience with all this and why I need help ..
(Yes, I am new to all this, maybe that's why I get confused but alright..)
Okay, I want to root my phone with the design of DocRambone. Right, I follow your guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7329960#post7329960
And go to HOWTO#1 which says I need to flash my firmware. And so I start.
I first download Odin, get the 512.pit file and then try to find the desired firmware package(which according to the Doc guide is I9000XWJM8). Okay, I search the link and get to this: (I pick original firmwares -> Europe)
https://www.wuala.com/Samsung Galax...n/Original Firmwares/Europe/?key=AfzUZSU4SpKU
Which leads to my first confusion. I can't find anything named "I9000XWJM8". The closest I find is the one called "GT-I9000_I9000XWJM8_I9000XXJM4_CODE-MODEM.7z". Can I use this one or where is the "I9000XWJM8" ? :S
Right, I then assume it's the right one and continue only to find out that I don't know how to start my phone in "download mode". Or maybe I just can't because I got one of the phones without the 3 button combination. I'm not sure which one it is, and yes I did try all the combinations you state here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746814&page=2
None works. But how does the screen look like when you are in recorvery mode? Maybe you should add this to the guide, so people know if they can or cannot start in recorvery mode.
Anyway, I assume I have one of the phones without the combination and so I continue to the guide "Release: 3-button combo fix for any firmware version":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
I follow the guide and get to step 6 which says "Start a new command prompt and type "adb reboot recovery"". Right, what's this now?
I go back to the big tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7329960#post7329960
And finds the ADB tutorial to find out that I need Android Software Development Kit .. AND a rooted phone. Right, so I wanted to root my phone in the first place and now I need to root the phone in order to get the 3 button combination so I can root the phone. "Wait what?" was my 1st thought. But then I remembered that I found this guide earlier "[REF] Howto (un)root your SGS I9000 the easy way (keep all your data) (Eclair 2.1)":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754
Why did I got here? Because it said "the easy way". I thought that maybe it doesn't need the 3 buttom combination and so I found out it doesn't!! YAY finally a breakthrough, I thought. And so I started with this tutorial.
I was then met with this
"ROOT includes:
- Superuser 2.3.6.1
- Busybox 1.16.0 (for use with Titanium Backup)"
which brings me to another question: Does this mean that you get these apps when you use this root method? or do I need to install the apps first?
I thought it was the first one, since it says "includes". And so I start with the "Automated Method!". I dowload the .bat file and start. Follow what it says and reaches to the part where I plug in my phone. Here I get the error message: "Driver installation unsuccessfull" (Or something like it. I Don't recall since when I plug the phone in now I don't get the error. I don't even get a "ready to use removable disk" now. It doesn't even recognize the phone now when it's plugged in). Now I have tryed to connect it to the pc before (although WITHOUT the USB-debugging checked) and it worked fine. And this is as far as I can get. I am now officially stuck!
I have read comments and all but it doesn't help.
I'm realy tired from trolling these forums after being led through like 4-6 guides + the ones I havn't mentioned here (havn't counted, but something like that)..
So can anyone please, for the love of god, tell me which guide I should start with, list the guides so I know which one to go to next and answer the questions above.. My head hurts now :S ..
But in general, please write the guides more "noob friendly" or whatever .. I think alot of them are written by admins for admins(or atleast people who know their way around these phones). Atleast that's the impression I get.
I know it was a long read but I hope you'll help anyway
Thank you in advance!

hello there, I can appreciate if you're new to smartphones it can seem a lot to take in.
If you want an easy/simple way to root then there are 2 or 3 methods available on this fantastic forum but try this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403
just go to youtube and search for rooting videos and watch someone do it first, then you do it. very easy once you see how it is done. youtube or theunlockr.com also has great videos
Yea but my problem is now that I can't get access to it when it's in USB debugging mode.
As I posted earlier, the first time I put my phone in USB debugging mode and connected it to my computer it said "Drivers where not successfully installed" (or something like it).. And now, when I connect my phone to my computer in USB debugging mode, it won't even show as an USB. It doesn't pop up and say "USB connected" and I can't find it under My Computer.
Someone who can help me with this?
And when I plug it in, in USB debugging mode, should I press the USB connected button on my phone, like I usually do when I connect the phone to my computer without it being in USB debugging mode?
Okay, I found the device now on my computer, but I can't find any drivers for the phone to be connected in USB-debugging mode. Anyone knows where I can find drivers for this?

when used as USB Debugging mode, you need no driver if you plan to use it as a mass storage drive
you just pull down the tab and select mount the drive
then you can copy your Update.zip to the phone Internal SD
after it is done select Unmount the mass storage drive from the pull down tab in the phone
and now you can boot into the Recovery Mode, select update.zip
and you are rooted.
reboot back to normal, and enjoy the freedom to install any App you want to play with
The easiest way I found is to go on to Android market, install One Click Lag Fix. Then open the app and select root 2.1. Restart into recovery and select apply update.zip. Your phone reboots and its rooted. Simples!
simplest way to root is
1)go to market search for RyanZA's OCLF 2.0.
or here is link http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.rc.QuickFixLagFix
2)open the app
3) click root.
4)then boot into recovery
5)use volume button to select update.zip and click home button
6)your phone is rooted.
Hi everyone... Can anyone here let me know if these "lagfix" rooting methods work and are SAFE for a LOCKED (I have not unlocked the sim) Bell Galaxy S with stock JH2 rom? I am also a bit of a noob and would like to see what this phone can really do.
Also... Do I have to unroot it if I want to upgrade to froyo when it is released?
Please advise...
Thx.
yiannisthegreek
PS... Once this is rooted, HOW do you unroot with these "lagfix" methods if I ever need to?
i would advice againts installing the LAG FIXes as they can kill your Internal SD
there are over a dozen forum topics with people unable to repair the damage, and end up having to ship the phone back to samsung to have it repaired.
Allgamer...
Thank You for the heads up on this but now I am still confused on how to do it. I have to move the update.zip file to my internal sd card but I too have some issues that I cant figure out.
I learded how to do it on youtube watching someone called tech0stickyasglue and it seems very simple but firstly I am not sure exactly where I have to place the file and if I have to unzip it and then place the 2 folders inside it into the sd card, etc... I also have an issue with the whole "mount" and "unmount" thing.
I can mount the card while in usb debugging but when I go back to the dropdown menu it does not give me an option to "unmount" it only gives me an option to quit usb debugging and when I pick this option I get a warning message saying that I should "make sure I have unmounted form the host" or something to that effect.
Can you give any advice or step by step instructions to me on what and where I need to place these files to make this work?
I would greatly appreciate it...
Yea but the thing is that I can't go into recorvery mode.. The 3 button combination doesn't work (Talking to the people from page 1)

When I put down the tap and select mount the drive(when in USB debugging mode that is) I can't acces the phones folders. I can't even see the extra icons you usually get, under My Computer, when you connect an USB to the computer. I can only find the SAMSUNG_Android under Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound ->Devices and Printers where it lies under the "Unspecified" section and not under the "Devices" section. And when I right click on it, press proporties and go to the Hardware tap, I can see under "Device status:" it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" ..
So can anyone tell me what's wrong? (I havn't installed Kies btw, dunno if that has got anything to do with it)

Ahh... the joy of Android & Kies....
you don't really need to install Kies, I only installed Kies to check for official ROMs, but i was using the phone on the PC even without Kies installed
You can install the Android SDK drivers, inside the Android package that you download from google, there is a sub folder with both 32bit and 64bit drivers, unplug your phone and install them, then plug back the phone, it should be detected now.
in my Work PC, i never installed any driver, and i select mount, and it gets detected as a USB key by Win XP

Alright, thanks alot But where can I find this Android package then? I'm not sure what you are talking about exactly
Why wont anyone explain WHAT file(s) you put WHERE exactly for this update.zip root method? Is is some sort of "spy secret" or something?
Seriously... I CAN get to see my phone folders on my computer so I am good there but what I dont know is if I am supposed to move the entire .zip file to the root of my sd card or if I need to extract the .zip file to the root of my sd card.
At any rate... I have tried BOTH methods and I always get the same error message when I reboot in 3 button mode... Something to the effect of E: cannot open / install update.zip... Invalid or not found... (I am guessing on this as I am at work but you get the idea)...
Please... ANY help and "step by step" instruction would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Hi,
One Click Lag Fix (OCLG) downloadable from Android Market will give u an option to root ur phone. And also it gives u an option to fix the lag in galaxy s. I have more than 80 applicatons and widgets installed in my phone. I insist that OCLF is the most useful, powerful and demanded application ever. It is so easy to use and follow. It even offers an option to unroot. So don't be afraid to download and install.
For ur reference, the bench mark speed has been increased from 800 to 2150. Comparable to nexus 1 with 2.2 was 1200. Hope this helps.

[2.1] Simple root instructions for Eclair

Here is a very simple instruction on rooting LG GT540 when Universal Androot doesn't work:
1. Download and extract the attached package.
2. Connect the phone in "USB Debbuging Mode"
3. Doubleclick "root.bat" (extracted from the package)
4. Wait for the console to shut down and the phone to reboot.
The credit for this method goes probably to people from Modaco.
Since this is my first post and i am still not allowed to post links from external servers i won't give any mirrors for unregistered users. Sorry.
Any confirmation that this works?
It sounds just too easy!
Bakuj, you can PM me with link to the modaco forum, I cant find topic with this root method!
Cheers!
Rooted yesturdamy with this, works fine
I rooted my phone yesterday using that method.
I ran each line of code separately though as i had issues running the .bat file
Thanks a lot
Froyo?
I have a TMO Optimus T w/ FROYO. Will this work on it?
You can give it a try. But first look at the name of this forum section. It is for GT540.
I have made a new version which includes both root and app2sd.Named 1 click autorootapp2sd .
You can access the guide at modaco . The file is attached.Turn on usb debugging mode and run autorootapp2sd.bat.
Nice and handy ^^ thanks
ROOT for recovery:

3. Reset the phone and start the recovery mode
4. Select the option to apply sdcard: update.zip
5. Root been made
Application was added to the package:
root explorer, superuser and busybox
Thanks a lot arekl1988r
but how can i unroot it?

Yeah it should work. Also you can try a factory reset (never tested).

[GUIDE] Running Backtrack5/Ubuntu 10.04 On Tab 10.1

Backtrack5/Ubuntu v10.04 Up & Running On Tab 10.1
StatementHave this on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and working perfect so i figured i would give it a try on the Tab 10.1. There were alot of people who helped get this running for other devices i will mention them so dont worry. Alot of modifications had to be made in order to get this to run on the Tab because it was really made for a phone not a tablet so please follow all the steps cause there is certain code that i had to right to get the screen size to fit. Everything is fully functional and working. Finally i think this would be a nice addon to your Tab esp if your a big Ubuntu fan, I am currently working with other developers to see if we can update this so it has the new Ubuntu v11.10 but for now follow the steps and enjoy and if theres any questions or requests just write on the thread and PM me. ENJOY!!!

Thanks To:DooMLoRD, anantshri, n1nj4dude, KingOfThaJungle None of this would be possible without these guys and if im missing anyone please let me know and im sorry
Before We StartThere are going to be 10 files attached at the bottom you need to download all 10, place them on your desktop for now i will explain what your going to do with them after. Next you need to download 7Zip heres the link http://www.7-zip.org/download.htmlOk now those 10 files waiting on your desktop extract ONLY 1! i chose to extract bt.7z.001 once you extract you will be given a .img file create a folder called bt and put all ten of the files inside bt including the .img so you now should have a folder on your desktop called bt with 11 files in it. Take this folder and put on the root of your Tab.Now there will also be another file attached called bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts_v2 take this file and put it on the root of your Tab. Reboot into recovery mode and wipe cache and davik cache and then flash that file once complete reboot your Tab.Once your rebooted use some kind of file explorer i used root explorer and check the /sdcard/bt folder for the following it should look like this when you explore it./sdcard/bt/bt/sdcard/bt/bt.img/sdcard/bt/installbt.sh/sdcard/bt/startbt/sdcard/bt/stopbtOnce your verify that the above if correct you can proceed
Instructions On Launching BTStart Terminal Emulator on your Tab and enter the following commands step by step.sucd /sdcard/btsh installbt.shstartbtbtNow your in Back Track 5 shell! You should see [email protected]:
Instructions On Launching VNC ServerDownload VNC Server from the marketThen still in terminal typevncserver -geometry 1280x700You then will be presented with [email protected]: againThen look under it were it says new 'X' desktop is localhost1 that it the last digit in your port number if you ever exit VNC or close terminal or reboot you will have to run some commands to get back witch i will show you in a minute but always look at that localhost # cause it will change if you reboot so pretty much if it says localhost2 your port would be 5902 get it?
Now Launch AndroidVNCEnter the following into AndroidVNCNickname: btPassword: 12345678Address: 127.0.0.1Port: 5901Username: (Leave Blank)Color Format: 24-Bit Color (4bpp)
Getting Back In After RebootType the following commands to get back insustartbtbt
Screenshots & LinksAt Bottom Thank you and Enjoy!!!
Go to this page for the 10 files http://www.mediafire.com/?f9gk3p3t9wip5

Haven't tried yet but looks great, sweet!
works good. nice guide. i suggest people download bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts_v2 from the link in the 3rd post
Cool. Does the wireless "card" in this device support injection?

I would love to know this

i believe it does but im not 100% on that
I cannot get this to work. Every time I try to install the bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts or bt5_sgs2_shell_scripts_v2, it says installation aborted. Needs to be Nandroid restored otherwise it won't boot. Any ideas?
So can i use both of honeycomb and ubuntu alternatively or together? Because in screenshots i can still see honeycomb taskbar at bottom over Ubuntu.
Nice work. And how to uninstall it?
Ok for JAYDAWGX7: are you wiping cache and davik cache before flashing and is your cwm up to date? if so and still having problem try a different kernal and get back to me
Ok for PARAG31: yes you can run bolth all backtrack5/ubuntu is doing is running threw vnc you are not loosing honeycomb you still have that as a base platform backtrack/ubuntu is just running threw vnc so to answer your question this does run bolth
I try with two diferents kernels and roms first task650 in paris v5 and other with task650 new honecomb 3.2 stock and no luck to install the zip file in recovery instalation aborted allways display. please post your roms and kernels info to migrate and run this on my gt

Yep, same problem here. Any ideas? Any one else try this?
P7500 running Overcome 10.1 Rom, with Pershoot Kernel 2.6.36.4, with CWM v5.1.2.3. Yes with wipe of both cache.
EDIT:
After further investigation, the zip file only contains the files found in the bt folder. Just extract it to the /sdcard/bt dir. Assuming that it makes no other changes to system.
Got to [email protected], haven't done the rest yet! Will update post later.
EDIT:
Everything works after this.
Plus, i dont think monitor mode or injection works. Not without modified drivers (STILL HOPING ITS NOT THE CASE). Maybe usb? Hows usb hosting on this? Hope someone can answer these questioms.
I have a compatible wifi adapter, but no usb adapter for the tablet! I'll put it on my buy list.
Will this work on the 3G version also?
Edit: Awesome! It works perfect, thanks! Only remember to have busybox installed guys!
The correct resolution is 1280x752, so it is : "vncserver -geometry 1280×752"
also ur script isnt flashable. only thing in /data is busybox, just install busybox from market and change script
will work on 3g and wifi versions
very nice, also works on GTab 7310 (8.9 Wifi 3g)
heaven, thank you!
Awesome, works like a charm, and it blows everybody's mind.
I spent a little time on try to get capture mode to work, but gave up with the original network drivers.
I hoped it would be possible to use a normal usb wifi stick connected to the adapter, compile the drivers, and load them as modules, but i'm getting error messages when doing that, and that's where my knowledge of linux ends.
Anyone tried this yet? Any pointers? (currently flashing overcome 2.0, will try to post errormsg later)
Also, I read in one of the CarrierIQ threads that one of the pieces of the app actually uses libPcap to snoop on our asses. Would it be any help (or problem) that that's enabled in the parent OS?
Just one question: Can I use bluetooth keyboard/mouse with it? And will TrueCrypt run?

Lenovo Ideapad K1 One-Click Root (Mostly)

First, please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section. It seemed most appropriate.
Second, I take no credit for anything here except for writing the .bat file here used to do the work, as well as assembling the files as per the original post.
All credit goes to djmwj and his article found here:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8722-lenovo-ideapad-k1-rooting-guide-messy/
As the title states, it was very messy. The OP figured out how to make it go, but it was a bit fuzzy to follow. So, I thought I'd help folks out a bit and clean things up.
So, I took the instructions presented in the OP, and condensed them into one download with one .bat that does everything from start to finish, minus installing the respective drivers for ADB and NVFlash. However, the drivers are included in the download.
Instructions:
1. Extract K1Root.rar to the directory of your choosing.
2. Connect your tablet to your PC with the USB cable.
3. With your tablet off, press POWER+VOL_UP+VOL_DOWN until the screen turns on, but displays only black.
4. Windows should detect the device, but not install drivers.
5. Go into device manager, select the APX device, choose update drivers, and install the drivers from the aptly named NVFlash_Drivers folder.
6. Open up the NVFLASH_HOME folder and run the file K1Flash.bat
7. Make your desired choices when prompted, and enjoy.
Notes (PLEASE READ BEFORE USING):
THERE MAY BE BUGS! I used it on my own stuff before releasing, and all of the essential components work as they should, however, there may possibly be a minor hiccup somewhere in the script. This should not damage anything. If you have doubts, you're welcome to examine the .bat and check it for yourself.
Please be gentle. I am not a full-time developer. I just wrote this to help make the process simpler for people.
The OP suggests you download and read the partition table, and then name the backup files based on that. This script names the backup files based on the flash.cfg script referenced in the OP, which is what controls the flashes used anyway. So, there shouldn't be any irregularities, however, I can't speak for every device on the planet.
This does NOT use the latest OTA updates. The rooted files being flashed are the default ones from the original download. You can easily adapt this to any files generated from the latest OTA files by simply dropping them in the NVFLASH_HOME file.
To install the SU properly, you have to install ADB drivers midway through the script. There's probably a way around this, but I didn't find it to be too inconvenient.
The ADB drivers are also located in the NVFLASH_HOME folder. Just do like you did when installing drivers in step #5, but instead point to NVFLASH_HOME.
Um...um...
That should be it. Obviously, use at your own risk. Let me know if there are problems with the script, and I will fix them.
Oh, and party on, Wayne.

EDIT:
Attached is an updated .bat file which fixes a few errors in the original script, plus adds more userability. Just extract to the NVFLASH_HOME folder and run.

You may want to change the title to Ideapad K1, I don't know if this will work for the Thinkpad tablet.
Thanks for this, I just picked up this tablet ($250 at staples) and was worrying about having to tackle linux and "compiling" just to be able to get hulu.com working. You're a lifesaver.

Wow. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the key used is just for the Ideapad. Thanks for pointing that out. My dumb a$$ must've blanked out and just used the group name when posting.
And just to be fair, the original poster does include everything needed to do stuff in windows as well - it's just very hard to discern from the post.
question
Is anyone working on a custom ROM for this tablet? I am hopeing that there will be at least a few custom roms available at some point in the near future.

We need to be able to root and unlock the bootloader first.
Does the root method work on the 121211 update?
Or is there a way to flash back to the older firmware?
the OTA update 12 12 11.... seems to be update.zip style with no .img files inside. just loose files like normal rom updates. doesnt seeem like you can drop the files in as suggested. or i have the wrong OTA....
oh and is this for LINUX as the OP or work in windows too??
Hi, I was wondering, is this procedure works for the Lenovo ThinkPad 1838-25U? I'm thinking to buy it to give a test ride, i sold my Transformer 101 to buy the Prime but it seems like Asus is taking vacations on the delivery shipments. Is this a good tablet? or is better to wait for another version?
READ THE POST
IDEApad not THINKpad. no it wont work.
First of all- thank you so much for creating this script! I have been putting off rooting this device due to the "messy" nature of the original post.
I was hoping you could help me troubleshoot, I have tried both the new K1 root application and the original .bat file. I know the drivers are working because the script makes it as far as creating and formatting partitions and successfully pushes the bootlooder.bin but then:
bootloader.bin sent successfully
file not found: recovery.img
failed executing command 2147483647 NvError 0x4
command failure: create failed
I've tried everything I can think of... any ideas?
Thanks again.
I found problem.
after root done follow step. I cannot factory reset and update any ota.
anyone can help me ?

A big thanks to Khanning who was nice enough to walk me through the adb commands and bear with me when I couldn't get adb over usb to work.

It means you are not in APX mode. Read the PDF and follow the instructions for installing the APX drivers. This should fix your issues.http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...9&postcount=50

Glad to hear it worked for you.

I recently got this device and looking for a way to root this device without having to roll back to the factory default rom and then having to update again using OTA.
Question, am I in luck, is that at all possible or do I have to really rollback and reinstall everything again?
Thanks!
