4.1 JB for Captivate? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, will we ever get Jellybean ported to the Captivate? If so how long does this process normally take?
Sorry I have no idea how these things work, not being impatient, just wondering.
Thanks

If you want it that bad, the TAJB port for I9000 works fine on our phone with the latest Devil Kernel
It's a slightly long process to get everything(SMS+phone) to work
1: clear dalvik, normal cache, and wipe data
2: flash TAJB .45
3: flash devil Kernel
4: search through thread and flash test modem for phone calls and SMS
5: place the audio_policy.conf from the nexus s port into the system/etc/ folder

There's another thread discussing Jelly Bean for Captivate. You might want to check that one. It doesn't have any firm timeframes for any of the ROMs to release a 4.1 version, but it does confirm that they're working on it.

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775373, it works fine for me. Only things that do not work - Camera and Sound notifications. Otherwise, it is pretty awesome.

oh , I install cm10 v2 is working good

Just flashed it using the directions posted.
Can't seem to get my Data to connect. Won't save any apn's I add to it to connect. The phone can locate the appropriate Network Operator (CAN Rogers Wireless Inc.), but data will not connect. Also, when I go to the Data Usage tab, it doesn't show a tab that lets you see Data na dWireless usage like it did in ICS.
Any ideas on how to fix?? JellyBean is wicked smooth for such an ealy release and I'd hate to revert back to CM9 (it was not cooperating with my cappy!)

I'm on jb, and everything seems to be working extremely well for such am early alpha release! Running the unofficial Cm10v2 with devil kernel

Same here, just installed it last night and it's smoother than any rom I've EVER used! That project butter google built for jb is crazy smooth

Funny thing guys, Project butter hasn't been incorporated into the kernels yet. The v-sync and timings have to be messed with. So if you think it's smooth now, wait until project butter is actually running

That's ridiculous. I noticed an amazing jump in smoothness from the latest CM9 nightly to the V2 of the Jelly Bean ROM and if it's only gonna get better, I can't wait to see how fast it gets. Still very, very minor bugs that barely affect functionality at all, but man is it fast!

ya i noticed it was crazy smooth as well. but couldn't live w/o camera. so i went back to remics-ux. which is almost identically smooth imo. cant wait util we actually get project butter and a fully functional jb rom

You ought to relook the JB ROMs. I'm using DerTeufel's, and haven't had any problems with any component in the last three releases.
cbalt and dave have stripped down versions of DerTeufel's port, and by all reports, they're worth of being your daily driver, too.

Can someone comment on stability/usefulness of official CM9?

Going by cm based roms as of june, it's very stable, definitely stable enough for daily driver. Issues as of june, shorter battery, possible GPS issues, blue tooth a2dp stable connection.
I'd definitely give it a try and thanks for the heads up.
And yes, you need to flash from GB kernel with Root and cwm afaik.

1+ I concur, even though I didn't get on-board with paranoid android rom until version 04 was released but it is an EXCELLENT rom! Maybe the PA team should get together with Samsung on making this rom preinstalled software for the next generation of galaxy note.
Never gonna happen

on my device (ymmv!), after the basic tweaks (disabling unnecessary apps, syncs etc.), the standby battery life was not worse than on stock GB or ICS. During normal usage, esp. while browsing on wifi it was much better - the estimated current consumption on CM9 was at ca. 500mA on new ICS 4.0.4 its closer to 750mA in the same conditions.

nightly of CM10 or Helly bean is better?

who can give me some advises about this

This will be locked "best" is a matter of opinion download both and see what works best for your phone.

no lag here
CM10 VS Helly
Helly is based of of CM10. you could even consider helly to be CM10 with devil kernal that about the only diffrence. I had lag on ICS without datadata but on JB it seems to work well without it, or at least not any slower
I stopped using helly (had imei problems with the latest builds but was able to fix it) in favor of the daily CM10 releases. I've had no problems with it so far at all. No lag problems without datadata as well.
I only switched because I'm a ROM addict and enjoy flashing my cappy with the latest release but it works well. I still use devil kernel 1.3.1 and again, works just great. No problems to speak of.
Helly bean. It's faster, far more stable and complete working feature wise, the included devil kernel is fast and flawless, and has the most devoted developer around here
None of the ICS ROMs had /datadata taken away... So you always had it...

Then you flashed incorrectly. I'm amazed at the number of people that come in the hellybean thread asking why it's bootlooping when they didn't even bother to read the OP, stating that you must flash twice
Can't really go wrong with either.

I've been running CM10 with stock kernel for a few weeks now. I moved over from CM9 1.0 Stable.
Besides a few quirks (Google now lag, lock screen bugs) it works as a daily driver.
I've seen IMEI problems on both builds, I would just be careful when flashing and pull your SIM/check your IMEI before installing it again.

Would you recommend switching from CM9 to CM10, despite the bumps you're talking of?
Personally, I enjoy the new features of CM10/Jelly Bean and can deal with the bugs. You could always wipe/flash back to CM9.

Im currently on latest helly bean and i do notice some lags like lockscreen stays dark greenish color then goes back to normal & sometimes it lags . I havent tried cm10 yet..maybe will give it a try later
I've ran a few versions of both. Luckily I have not had any trouble with my IMEI changin... yet. I find both run extremely well at first but with time and 100+ apps added both start to lag. Neither really run as flawless as some of the last cm9 builds I was on. I believe with time both will get better and hopefully run as well.
I am on the nightly builds of cm10. The performance it's amazing. The only down side is that the build seems to be increasing in size and the amount of apps that I'm able to install is limited to the size of the internal Rom space which is about (400 mbs).
Other than that I'm happier with the phone and I use our as my daily driver. Real fast and responsive.

I used to have stock Gingerbread on my SGS I9000. Then I switched to DarkyROM ICS, which was okay. After a while I came across the SlimRoms website, which was still developing Slim ICS at the time, so I flashed ICS, which was brilliant. Shortly after the Slim team started working on SlimBean, and after reaching a stable version I tried it for myself, a decision I am glad I made.
SlimBean is by far the lightest, fastest ROM I've used so far. Give it a try for yourself and you'll see how amazing, lag-free it is. I'm using version 3.1 with the Semaphore kernel version 2.6.2s.
Hi,
I've flashed many roms on my i9000 : Miui, cyanogen 7, Cyanogen 9, Jelly Bean, ICs..... but for me the best one is the JW8 SAUROM.
Stable, fast, GS3 Theme and a very good battery life !!
Since i am on this rom i don't want to flash another one !
Slim 3.1 with semaphore 2.6
If someone help me i definitely HIT THANKS....
Your question must be more specific, and I'll try to explain...
In my opininon the are only 2 developers team which should be considered, first CyanogeneMod which leads because of it's bigger number of devs (so more supported devices). 2nd is AOKP, which I personally prefer because it's more designale and more good looking, but also very stable. I've tested hardly both, but 5th build from AOKP has best battery life, so I'm never going back to CM, only for new tests, making new statistics etc.
Hope I helped, greetings

But not alll stock rom 2.3.x can be flash with semaphore.. and not all i9000 can be flash with the same s/rom. But still semaphore 2.7.4 is the best way to get cwm. If flashi v semaphore causing boot failure, try to flash with other s/rom and re-flash semaphore.

The idea of two developers was what I was thinking as well when I was making a decision either to stay on stock 2.3.6 or flash something new. CM9 is more "readable" for me in terms of numbering and Stable/Nightly/Experimental. Even tough I do not understand how come there is a stable version followed by nightly builds.
When watching some videos and screens of AOKP I felt it might be even better but I got confused in the numbering (which of the builds is the most stable as I need a working phone not a phone to be flashed twice a week).
For me the best ROM is SlimBean with Semaphore Kernel!:good:

C-Rom Mix V9 here - it's a near perfect ROM. Stable, everything is where it supposed to be. Very smooth operating. My last phone - XPERIA ARC S was destroyed (and its hardware is superior to that of i9000) - Galaxy - being slower by half is faster when speaking about this system operation. There are some hiccups with number recognition sometimes (like 1/10 phone calls and only till i pick up - so no showstopper for sure ). The camera is limited to just basic functions - but is working perfectly fine. The calendar is more basic than in ICS modded ROM for ARC S. The battery last for a day or less - but here i cannot say if the battery in my phone is just old or is this ROM (i got the phone used and the battery is 2,5 yo). And these are my only complaints - not much I have MUUUUUUUCH more complaints on every other stock/modded rom for Galaxy & ARC S
It's my daily ROM more than a week now.

Er...you may be in the wrong forum...
I have found the CM9 nightly to be the most stable for playing games. I've tried the CM10 and others but as soon as I launch a online game, the TP will generally freeze up.
I play a game called "Tanked" which is online and a great tank killing game against other players. Lots of fun...great graphics, and addicting.
If someone has a suggestion as to a more stable, yet fast rom for this type of gaming, please indicate which you use. I will try and load it up and give you a quick review of stability vs the cm9.
Thanks

Same here. My kids love playing games and I have problem with the T-pad crashing on CM10. I've tried every CM10 ROM available. Each has it's own unique advantanges, but hate seeing Tp constantly crash to mboot.

Thanks for the answer, I flashed it on my touchpad, however I noticed that flash is really buggy on CM10, it just gives me some horizontal lines, and when I full screen it theres only like a 10% chance of it working, since most of the time its just a black screen or it just flickers over and over and freezes, sometimes its even crashed my touchpad. Would it be best to go to a CM9 rom, or is there some work-around for this problem?

[q] i9001 - Giving phone away to friend, need stable ROM

Hey guys - I'm about to give my i9001 away having just got a Nexus 4. In the meantime I've been having stability issues with this rom (ivendor cm10.1) - regular shutdowns that require removing and replacing the battery to fix, and various freezing issues.
So I'm looking for a very stable, very polished, simple ROM to put on before I give it away to someone who's a pretty good friend. Something CM based would be grand, and GB based is fine if those are the most stable (and she's used to GB). Any ideas?
After that I guess I'll be signing out of this area - you've all been a great help and I'm sure I would have dumped the phone long ago without you!

Oh, ok . Sorry, wasn't thinking straight, still can't. Sick . But yea, he can also try broodROM GB or ICS if he wants. FOr me JB is stable. but I guess it's diffrent for everybody, I don't use my phone that much now because I'm very busy with school and whatnot. But in the end it's up to him. I would recomend GB anyway, cuz she is use to it, and it is blazing fast.
ps. 100th post
