Crying? It's not like your phone is going to self-destruct if the ics update don't arrive

Why are we complaining about optus when we are on custom roms?
Hopefully its not going to be bogged down by their firetrucking bloat/ 1 star apps like they did with the GB update which I unfortunately had to put up with for a day and a bit

True about being able to disable them
Thats a good feature of ICS, and probably why the android devs decided to build it into ICS
But, laginess IMO creates the impression that the phone is crap
which creates the impression that the hardware is crap
and that HTC is crap
and android is crap
And thats why people buy iphones
Same with low end phones like the OG wildfire which didn't have a GPU
They are compared to the iphone (unfairly) and people class android in general as being crappy
Thats what happens in Melbourne/Australia anyway
/rant finished
And @OP don't cry, we are here for you, at least you don't have to put up with optus and their mediocre network and bloatware

You just had to read some threads here and so on, but instead you like to cry, you didnt?
If you really need ICS flash a ICS Rom out there.

Yup, no update in the land of Aus, makes me sad .
But im on a custom rom so im not complaining..
Does anyone know if its possible to downgrade your HBOOT to acquire S-OFF if you install the update that will be rolled out in August?
I know it is currently possible. But will it be possible with the new update?

Not possible, it will most likely have the new hboot
The tacoroot exploit used now does not work with this new hboot
Better to s off now

I'm a little intrigued as to what's happening with the Virgin AU phones. While they are run on the Optus network and they have an Optus CID (OPTUS002) they are completely unbranded and have none of the Optus software installed and do not have a sim-lock either so theoretically they should get the same 'clean' update as the European WWE release. Virgin haven't said whether any updates will be pushed by themselves so I don't know if these phones will even get an update or whether they will get it at the same time as the branded Optus units. Due to the lack of customisation on Virgin phones, it's a bit ropey having to wait until late August to receive the update (if at all). One can only hope it's because they are ironing out even more bugs for the final release.

I did ask them a few months back when I was speaking to them regarding a billing issue. They said that any updates made for their phones are available from the manufacturers websites. The person I spoke to had no knowledge of the concept of OTA updates and said I should simply check the HTC website on a regular basis.

htc confirms froyo for legend in 2 weeks

I just read this over on phandroid here's a link just take out the space after the .
phandroid. com/2010/06/22/htc-delivering-froyo-to-the-htc-desire-and-legend-within-the-next-two-weeks/
Already got froyo on my n1 and it's sweet. I wonder how much of a speed boost the legend will gain?
let's just hope you are right about this i'm dying to see froyo on my legend and starting to regret for picking legend over desire

same here.. but still looks cooler than Desire
except the "antenna" at the bottom, it's quite loose, the only thing that I don't like hardware-wise
hope that Froyo will improve it software-wise
by the way, just checked the original source (a german site) and they have update from today - we are not getting Froyo in two weeks.. everything is indefinite....
Here is the original source.
Translated by google:
HTC has denied through his PR agency, that there will be two weeks in an operating system update for the Desire and the Legend. The statement was based on a misunderstanding. It is certain that the HTC Hero will receive in the next two weeks, his update to Android 2.1. In the update for the HTC Desire remains vague and will deliver an update to the third quarter. Whether and when to upgrade to the Legend Android 2.2 get, you do not know yet.

To me this more and more sounds like the Legend is definitely not getting FroYo. They would confirm it by now otherwise (like they did for the Desire).

Uh, the article actually directly says this won't happen. Google translate failed.
Well I've heard multiple times before this that customer service reps from htc have also confirmed the update to froyo for the legend. The most recent being an email from a customer service rep stating that the user fear not about his flash playing troubles because android 2.2 and incidentally flash 10.1 would be released for the htc legend within the next 2 weeks.
Follow this up by the recent release of flash 10.1 for android 2.2 and the release of the android 2.2 source code being released today the statement of "within the next 2 weeks" seem to be exactly what is happening. Not only is android 2.2 pretty much here but will be available sooner rather then later. To add further flame to the fire htc repeatedly said android 2.2 will be supported by almost all 2010 devices and with the desire being more widely available and more powerful it is more likely to be put in with definite android 2.2 compatible even though the desire and legend get almost always get updates at the same time.
The most likely reason the statement was pulled? Well it must simply be due to google not publishing the source code yet, thus letting people essentially know froyo is ready.
Htc most certainly can't pull the plug on 2.2 before google itself does. But! Now that it has published final froyo source code it is 99.9% done and is most likely waiting to be uploaded to the server.
My uneducated guess is that we'll see froyo on the legend by mid july at the latest.
Also not sure if anyone thought of this, but bell (and indirectly virgin mobile canada) are not stupid companies. They are introducing a new android phone and thus throwing massive amounts of ad $ and marketing into it, from both bell/virgin AND htc itself. Remember this is virgins FIRST android set and bells 4th or 5th, they would most likely have talked to htc to make sure the device is upgradeable to the newest android. They just started selling it, they aren't going to allow it to be out dated within the month its released! If the did it would be a waste on advertising and a waste of introducing a new phone.
That's just my 2 cents, but it seems very logical to me, how about you?

Well, HTC may be about "wasting time" but I assure you a phone carrier isn't about wasting money on a device that will essentially be obsolete within the month they release it. Case in point no north american phone carrier's are introducing any android devices that aren't running android 2.2 or able to upgrade to it, why should bell/virgin mobile be any different?

The legitimate release hasn't been release, although litterally 5 minutes ago I saw reports on endgadget that small ota's of frf83 we're infact being pushed out via ota right now.
Also in this forum section someone is currently developing froyo and hopes to release it by the weekend, maybe send that person a pm?

WP7 Nodo Update for Tmobile HD7

Any word on when we will be getting this for us Tmobile US users. Anxiously waiting for copy/paste funcitonality. Overall i like the phone, but some very spotty reception especially with 3g data connection.
I think as far as anyone knows the update is due to start rolling out from the 8th March... but it'll be the carriers that can delay it by a week or two
Yeah, I'm waiting for the update before I decide if I'm going to keep this HD7 or not. I love the big screen and I love the OS. But this phone has some serious reception issues. My Moto Defy and even my Nokia Nuron get much better reception in both voice and data. I'm not use to so many dropped called.
I hear ya, but wouldn't that be a carrier update, not NoDo that addresses these reception issues we have. Just thinking logically here, this is a software update, not radio or kernel correct? MS can't possibly know all the issues present for each carrier or phone that needs to be addresses. Soryr coming form android so maybe my understanding is incorrect.

I'm waiting with you. So far, the same disappointment. I also noted that prices have fallen significantly and people are getting rid of them.
It seems that as soon MS will do something good is this system will fail. Even though HTC has released several new models, but with Android on board.

the content of the update is necessary but the update process itself isn't because the contents of that update will be included in the NoDo update. Given the fact that the 8th was only a rumored date, I doubt its coming out today, but hey surprises are welcome!

It's my understanding that the pre-update is not necessary. What T-mobile has done was include the pre-update WITH the NoDo update; this was noted as something carriers were allowed to do.
When does this combo update come? Who the hell knows.

Microsoft themselves stated (while being scrutinized if carriers can block updates) that updates are bundled together by them (Microsoft) so that it won't have an effect on consumers who's carriers have blocked a previous update. The first update served two purposes: the first; was driver or firmware level upgrades that facilitate the upgrade process (which is why those small number of phones ended up bricking when the update went awry) the second was to see the worst case scenario that ended up happening to the Samsung phones. So to do list for initial update crossed out, time to release NoDo!
hope this helps

Can anybody confirm whether the radio & firmware updated ROM that XDA user Ansar posted over in the development section made it into the NoDo update ROM? I've heard good things about that radio update (saves battery, better signal etc.) and it'd be nice to know that we would also be receiving that updated radio and firmware.

Gingerbread official update announcement (UK)

Out of curiosity, I just sent an enquiry to HTC UK about when they might be officially updating the device to 2.3.3 or a subsequent version. Here's the answer I got:
"Thank you very much for contacting the HTC technical support help desk. We are excited to announce that HTC Incredible will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Summer 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability. Please, for HTC INCREDIBLE S downloads and useful information about your device goes to: http://www.htc.com/uk/help_howtos.aspx?p_id=389"
I don't know about all of you, but this disappoints me - the Desire S is about to be released and yet that will be shipping with 2.3.3. And 'Summer'? That could easily be as late as September. This is all starting to sound very similar to the last time I was burned by HTC when I had a Hero and I was hanging around for 6 months waiting for a 2.x update from Android 1.5.
Anyway, I've told them I don't think this is good enough. I just hope someone finds a root exploit soon so there's a chance of me keeping vaguely up to date with new Android versions. Otherwise I'm going to be more and more tempted to sell this thing on later in the year and find something a bit more update-friendly.
to be honest, that just sound like the marketing department haven't been told anything, and that is a safe, wide target area, I wouldn't read too much into it.
I too suffered the Hero saga, don't want a repeat of that

I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to release an update within the next month or so, rather than 'Summer'. It's the vagueness that concerns me more than anything else!
Also, am I right in thinking that all Incredible S models ship without any carrier/network specific branding or functions within the software? I'm hopeful that will cut down the time it takes to build and release the update.
I think the update comes in May or June the latest. You figure this phone is gone be in Canada on Virgin and Bell sometime early April and in the states on Verizon at the end of April. I figure once the phone is more widely available the update will come. If we are lucky maybe the official gingerbread rom for the Incredible S gets leaked in April.
According to Engadget Chinese (during the press conference of Desire S announcement in Taiwan), hTC representative suggested that Gingerbread for Incredible S would be available "in next 2 weeks". Considering European countries always get the OTA update earlier than Asia Pacific region (Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z, Aria, Legend...). If the news is true, UK should probably get the update in April.
And also they announced a partnership with Skype to provide customized version of Skype in 2.3 update to include video call ability, which is a great news for us. Just hope this Skype version works better than the one in Market...

I had similar bs answer from them..
my enquiry was that as I purchased the phone sim/ carrier free, and it is the carriers who will release the update..which carrier sim wld I need to be using to get it?
in fact the reply bypassed the question completely, saying just 'most carriers wld release the updat (really htc? so do i have to use a sim from a carrier that supports IS???)...and then went on to say 'what is more important is that when the OTA is released by your carrier, make sure you are using wifi to download..
All I wanted was straight answer like 'O2 will def be releasing the update, it doesnt come direct from us, and expect it in xyz'..
HTC havent even released it to carriers yet, so when they do that'l take another couple of months for them to tamper with it..HTC obviously have a finished product which works with sense ui as they've been parading it around on the Desire S..so must be ready for release before now.

More likely than not, the official update will get leaked anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about that if you're lurking here as you'll probably see it here first. I'm on 3 in the UK who definitely don't support this phone, so this is what I'll probably be relying on unless the update comes direct from HTC. I wouldn't rely on HTC support to know where it's coming from, they're clearly as much in the dark as we are but have to give an answer of some kind. They don't count on people actually being clued up already, sadly.
I agree that if the Desire S is getting it, we should be getting it soon, but I do understand if there's a short delay due to it having to be tested fully on differing hardware. It's just the vagueness and the timescale that gets to me.
if the official update does get leaked, could it be installed without root?
update def won't be from HTC direct, thats the one thing they are adamant about..your's is a perfect example of a carrier that therefore wouldnt be releasing the update..and as for the clowns at 3 dont get me started..I had a DHD from 3, contacted them about a ginbgerbread update and they just told me they were'nt doing it and that 2.1 was the latest version 3 had...erm, hello 3..i bought the phone from your shop with 2.2 already on it!
glad i got rid of my dhd tho...IS is tons better

They have stepped up well lately but comon! to beat the others they need to be better faster and employ some good add people ffs! MS marketing is like Balmer --> bald!
Want to see if before I believe it
Samsung Omnia 7 is the last phone get updates. I say its update will be one more month at least.

I am using the branded engineer firmware with mango atm, i don't think it will take long! because this firmware runs pretty smooth and without any problems!

[Q] US Bought HTC One not receiving OTA Updates in India

Hi,
I have a US bought Unlocked HTC One and am currently in India. However, I still havent received the 4.2.2 update even though it has been available in both the countries for a while now. Any advice on how I can get that ? I dont plan on rooting the phone anytime soon as I love Sense5 and want to continue with it.
I look forward to what you can suggest and both me and my One will be thankful

I don't think the US versions have a 4.2.2 update. I thought they're going to jump straight to 4.3.
