[devq] dev question - LG Optimus Black

Guys, i am gonna make a ROM
So, i need majority suggestions.
Here is what i suggest. Please counter-suggest me.
AndroidOS v1.6
Features:
iOS Like(Everything. Inclu. Notifications center)
Undervolt to 600MHz
RAM consumption(MAX 100MB, which means you have 378MB Free)
Undefeatable battery life
V6 Supercharged
3G Optimized.
KICKEDASSED Kernel
If you want to know why I choose 1.6, it is due to its lightness.

Donut? You seem to start on the harder side buddy. What I can suggest before making leaps and bounds is create a ROM on sources that are available. I am not here to discourage you, but you should know what you are trying to make. People who started cooking/deving here (including me) learned from simple things first.
My question to you is have you made a bootable personal ROM regardless of version or make? I am no dev, but I can suggest...
1. Start learning to deodex.
2. Start learning creating/cooking your personal ROM. (CM7/V20stock)
3. If you successfully created your own ROM, start installing Linux and learn to compile.
4. Share the ROM and ask for opinion.

Noob!! You can use a virtual box; and doesn't matter if you have windows 8, 7, vista or xp, you can still partition a HD and multiboot. As time goes by, every post you do makes you look even more noob.

Windows can't. Tools can.
But what if your PC is really incompatible? Use VMs.

I better liked your idea of porting ios.
Im also waiting for new threads where you start porting beos and amiga os and others. I would love to run dungeon master nativly.
Also remember: before you have anything done create new thread in dev section - let the people know that you are not sleeping.
And before starting actual development someone should make cool logo and boot animation - without those things every project will fail.

[Q] how do I USB teather on 2.3.5

Hi I want to USB teather but it said that the kernel does not support it.
Any ideas or fixes for this. I'm using 2.3.5 and my pc is windows xp. Here's what it said the kernel needs.
This means that the Linux kernel on your device does not have the features (CONFIG_NETFILTER/CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES and/or RNDIS) required for tethering. If you have an ADP G1, please read (or ADP16KernelUpdate if you're using Donut), otherwise you will need to find a firmware/kernel with these features.
lol doesn't mean nothing to me can anyone help.

[Q] DEVs, please help me!

Hi, I'm a 14 yo guy from Hungary. I think I'm an experienced user but n00b in development. And my dream is to become a developer. So I have these questions:
1: How can I port CM ROMs for x8?
2: How can I port from AOSP for x8?
3: What kind of PC do I need for it? (Like processor, RAM, etc...)
4: Do I need any programs on PC?
(I'm on windows xp professional)
Thanks anyway:
droid
Android = linux so I would learn how to use linux
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
granted im no android dev. However I have created programs in JAVA and basic ( + alice but I dont really count that as coding )
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Sorry sorry mate
well your going to need ADB . and most computers out there can handle developing. so anything id say that is greater then XP could dev. but speed if you want it to bring down loading time is good but that comes at a price. if you wanted to be on the safe side get something with i3-i7 and DDR3 ram . did i mention learn how to code? that is most important part is learn the way Linux works. because android is basically Linux in mobile form.
look at the first link first and if it doesn't have what you need you can wing it using the 2nd which is your basic files your going to need..
(i hope this helps more then before )

Op. Care to tell us anything else other than 'I did it'. Maybe the process, make a guide, anything at all that would make the community better?
Lol. Sorry. There is a ROM in the original development section that let's you dual boot. You can download the boot image from there.

Do you have a custom ROM and Ubuntu or stock ROM with Ubuntu?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
AOKP 4.2 and Ubuntu. I was running the Multi ROM from the Original Android Development section. It does just that, lets you running several ROMS. I don't have much of a need other than AOKP and Ubuntu but it's awesome you can choose which ROM to boot. I wound up screwing up everything last night by messing around. I wiped my entire tab. I loaded Ubuntu on my PC and managed to reinstall Ubuntu on my tablet, while wiping out everything. So now I have to redo everything. That's what I get for messing around with things I have no idea about. But for me thats the only way I learn.
If you want to run Ubuntu too, check out the Multi ROM. Works very well for me and seems like for quite a number of others.

I don't know. As I know he working on a rom (maybe on boot to gecko or maybe different rom) a kernel and a loader what can boot kernels from non protected areas (kernel changing without pc).

ok,
seems interesting but im not that optimistic about it(firefox os)...
I'm not interested in this thing, so I'm neutral. As I see feherneoh have more knowledge about android than the most "dev", but I don't know this is enough or not to reach his own goals.
Try to be optimistic, maybe another dev join to this project.

Haha, look what I found, first Firefox os phone is made by ZTE which is using an arm6 processor & 250 MB of ram .
So it's compatible with a6 CPU & maybe our tiny RAM memory

[DEV][PORT][4.2.2]Sense 5 from HOX

Hello,as many of you know ,that here was no updates made for a long time ,but i was working on this ROM with the help of Adam77Root ,Ive tried a lot of different combos of the Build, a lot of logging ,testing was done, but now Ive come to point where I ask any developer to help Porting this ROM to our for 4X ,so ive decided to make this an open development and publish current build.
NOTE: THIS FOR DEVELOPERS ONLY,THE ROM IS NOT BOOTING
CURRENT STATE:
This Port is based on CM10.1 stable with no /system/app.It has - repacked kernel, many imported libs and frameworks. The ROM was stuck at bootanimation all the time ,untill the last libhw_legacy.so was added and it got stuck at LG splash .

It is more than obvious that the rom will not boot ... No hard feelings!
I wish that this was booted and with no bugs because i would definitly use it.

Since you port from HOX and use Sense 4+, I assume it's the 4.1.1 version. It will be an enormous work.
Does this.boot or i need to test myself?

Small suggestion. EGL libs have no need to change also hw libs (for start) so first to get the rom booting and after that fixes...there is no need to pile all at once!
today i haven't got enough time to have a look at it sorry. i will do it before monday
You could ask dexter_nlb if he has some tipps for you.

contacted him before this ,didnt answer yet ,priority is to get it booted now.
In reply to @Gmobilize for the PM, but others might also be interested:
This and similar ports are not impossible to do. It just needs a lot of work. We are in a good situation, because: 1. We have NEON instruction support (Nowadays almost all new devices have this, but it's a pain if one doesn't.) 2. The HOX is similar both in chipset and in screen size and resolution. 3. We have official JB.
These were the pros, now the cons: HOX JB is based on 4.1.1 and it's slightly different from 4.1.2. Many native libraries should be replaced, which should not cause a problem as the chipset is similar.
I have already worked on a port similar (Stock Samsung JB from Exynos 4 to Tegra 2, without NEON support -> it was really hard), but would not participate in this project right now (I'm intereseted, but have some other work atm.).
Regarding rumours, 4.2.2 with Sense 5 will land in July to the HOX, I would wait for that.
If you need any help with the project, I'm here. Some advices first: Don't flash the whole rom, rather do it one-by-one, i.e. first frameworks, fix the necessary natives, boot into system_server, let SystemUI and core services start app, add providers, add core apps then others. It is a time (and adb ) consuming port, but it has to be this way.
Finally is it booting?I didnt find in any post anything
