What does PDA, CSC mean? which firmware to choose - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have just bought me a galaxy note with 2.3.6 firmware,
And i wonder what does the PDA and CSC mean in the firmware upgrade to ICS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I don't really understand which firmware to choose...
I want to choose 4.0.4 but dont know which one.
I am currently using :
model number GT-N7000
android version: 2.3.6-mobile-star
baseband version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA4CL886827
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
What is my PDA?
What is my CSC?
What is PAD?
What is CSC?
Which firmware can i choose?
What is the difference between all the firmwares?
Thanks in advance

PDA represent your build version
e.g your current build is Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6, then PDA version of your ROM is XXLA6
again XX represend for countries, XX means it is for europian country
If suppose your build info contain DDLPA, then DD represens for India and PDA version is LPA, means that ROM is for India
Same way CSC is sales code., you can check your ROM CSC by dialling *#1234#
again first two digits represents country and last three represents release time.
But as such there is no restriction to use any ROM for any country if your device is unlocked(carrier restriction free)
Latest ICS is LRK for germany, you can use that too.

I see

Thanks for the reply dr.ketan now i understand something!
Just to make the picture complete:
when i dial *#1234# i get:
PHONE: N7000XXLPT - what that means?
CSC: N7000EULA1 - what that means?
I understand that because my phone uses PDA with XX i can use any EuropeanROM ?
Thanks a lot!

backup your efs first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606012
you need root for that you can get that by following dr ketans guide in sticky section developement.

you can update to any rom any time, just follow dr ketans thread and follow pc odin route
Updating throught Kies/ota is tricky, you need pcode sometimes of the country rom you want to go to, no root, and csc of that countries rom, and a whole stock rom installed for that csc. Best to just always follow pc odin route lol
also read stickies and threads fully cause a lot messed up by not doing that. One tip on ics do not wipe/factory reset
happy reading and searching

Find rooting guide from my signature n get cf rot kernel
Ps: cf root kernwl for lrk not available, use lrg instead of that.
Or use custom kernel like speedmod

CWM and battery
I have rooted the N7000XXLRK successfully.
You mean that i can not install CWM application on that firmware?
So how do i backup the whole phone without CWM?
And another question:
i want to see the battery percentage on the upper bar and not only the battery icon indication, how do i do that? is that possible?
Thanks,

best, not to use cwm on a kernel that can trigger the emmc brickbug, best to use kernel like speedmod k3-11 or likewise which has the trigger for emmc brickbug disabled when doing anything in cwm, or in ics.
Dont wipe, factory reset, change csc, or delete large files on a stock ics kernel
to eliminate these issues read threads/first posts of kernel threads btw.
tip: use kernels based on tw, or stock for stock ics, kernels based on cm9 or other are not for stock..
tip2: when nandroid backup, and wanting to recover that, you need same kernel installed as when backup was made. So use a safe kernel
tip3 when recovering apps and data on different roms, issues can arise due to different database structures, which is why its not really supported on i.e. cm9
tip 4 Some roms are wipe some are not. when going to and from gb and ics stuff could linger, which could cause softbricks. There are clean ways to go to and from, enought threads on that's but always do it on safe kernel whatever wipe action

Download ur stock rom and extract the cache. img file from it. install this cache. img using pc odin selected in the csc tab

if you made efs backup with working ota, restore it, if you didnt, check if:
no custom parts installed (kernel)
Or parts that didnt come with same stock rom version (e. g. if you changed modem)
Or if your pcode is different.
pcodin is faster lol

Thanks for the explanation, but what do the letters PDA actually stand for?
(And please don't say "Personal Digital Assistant," because that's all I can find and I've been searching all day.) :fingers-crossed:
I'm sure it must mean something else when it is being used in a discussion of Android mobile phone software.
Does anyone know what "PDA" actually stands for, what are the actual words represented by that abbreviation?
Thanks in advance for your help.

CSC and Google Play App
I've tried a lot of ROMs. Some ROM makes impossible to install applis from Google Play Store. For example when using the Sweet V5 ROM, I cannot get Firefox nor Chrome from the market. It says my Galaxy Note is incompatible. Do you have any idea of CSC management ?

please help me

CSC code problem after updating

I was on Gingerbread 2.3.6 after upgrading via KIES it became 4.0.3
on recovery mode I found CSC code is MID which is related to Iraq
after that I downloaded 4.0.3 (United Arab Emirate) and flashed via PC Odin, I checked CSC code I found it MID not XSG which is related to united arab emirates
I am sure that the process completed successfully in PC odin
what is the problem? why CSC code didn't change from MID to XSG?
Maybe thats stock rom didn't do auto full wipe when flashing..
Change ur CSC using *#272*imei#..
It is will do factory reset..
So backup ur app n data using Titanium backup before..

warning, it might brick your device changing csc on ics with unsafe kernel as it will delete your data.
Either flash safe kernel throught pc odin and change,
or flash a gb with the prefered csc and change there, then flash ics with prefered csc throught pcodin. How? see dr ketans thread sticky section development.
best case would have been to root and backup efs before doing anything on original gb, how, see dr ketans toolbox thread general section

1- what do you mean with a safe kernel?
2- why flashing ICS directly with prefered CSC XSG (4.0.3) doesn't remove MID (4.0.3)?

1. Safe kernel is one where the BRICK BUG CODE has been removed. All stock ICS kernels have the brick bug code.
2. If your ROM multi CSC does not include XSG then it willnot install XSG properly. Right now the ONLY SAFE WAY to have the csc that you want(XSG) is to downgrade to GB that has XSG. Set it to XSG via *#272*IME. Factory reset then check csc again, change as needed. Then Flash the ICS either with Odin or Mobile odin. I have tried this method 2x already. And this is on advice of Dr,. Ketan.

this is the ICS rom I flashed N7000JPLPD---4.0.3/12.06---N7000OJPLP7--- United Arab Emirates (single file)
N7000JPLPD_N7000XXLPT_N7000OJPLP7_XSG.md5 (4.0.3)
I flashed this file via PC odin over the excisting same version rom (4.0.3 MID), but still CSC in recovery mode is MID not XSG.
You mean after downgrading to Gingerbread with prefered united arab emirate rom and performing factory reset the code should change from MID to XSG. am I right?

It seems i have the exact same problem, My CSC is MID while i'm using the United Arab Emirates Rom N7000JPLR8_N7000OJPLR8_XSG.
So did it work for you when you change your CSC manualy and what where your steps you followed to do that on the official Stock rom?
Will the steps that you did will work on my N7000 which i am already using N7000JPLR8_N7000OJPLR8_XSG????
See below i have attached screenshots so if anyone esle will be kind to help and explain.
I will also include some of the battery screenshots hope you will like it, coz i don't want to loose any of my battery preformance if i will make any changes although i'm sure that the CSC has nothing to do with battery and ect.
thank you so much

Thanks Dr
it seems that the numbers are for a slightly different version
N7000XXLPY---4.0.3/12.05---N7000OXALPY---Download---Open Germany
i had problems for months and months and finally my note had not crashed for over a week
i would like to root it soon but would like my version as a lifesaver should i need to revert back
would like the version i specifically named...
This shud be same b'coz baseband number is not mentioned in that list
first is ROM version (PDA) second is CSC
You can check your CSC by *#1234#, if it same as mentioned on ROM listing(N7000OXALPY), then it is same, which you are looking for.

firmware backup

Hi,
First of all here are my specs...
S5830
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: S5830XWKPA
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL561786
[email protected]#1
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKPY
I want to flash this rom from sammobile which I beleive should work with my phone
Model Country/Carrier Date Version PDA CSC
GT-S5830 United Kingdom / Ireland 2011 September Android 2.3.6 S5830XWKPY S5830XEUKP1
but before I do I would like to backup my existing rom in the same format as this rom so I can flash through odin.
I found this page on the wiki for backing up your rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/How_to_backup_Original_ROM but its not in the same format as the downloadable roms. Can I flash this through odin? or how can I backup my rom like the downloads from sammobile?
I just want a backup so I have something to fall back on should I need to.
Thanks
First of all. The rom you are trying flash is very old. New firmwares are more stable. Try a rom which was released this year. I wonder why you want to backup the original rom, its old. Anyway, just backup stuff using cwm, search for your current firmware of sammobile and download it. If you want to return back to original firmware, flash the firmware via odin and restorethe cwm backup.

There is no official rom higher than 2.3.6 for this phone, I'm guna flash cyanogenmod at some point when I get a bit more time but for the time being I just wanted to flash official 2.3.6. Am I wrong in thinking the CWM needs a rooted phone to work? or will this feature run on unrooted phones?

If your phone is operator specific then flashing rom from different countries might cause problems. If your phone is unlocked and you can use it with any operator then no problem. You can flash any rom.

ah ok, mine is on o2 uk but it was bought from phones4u so it should already be unlocked, so thats good to know. There doesnt seem to be any o2 branding on the phone so i'll have a play when I get sum spare.
cheers
But still, just try using a sim from some other operator and see if it works. If it doesnt, your phone is operator specific.
yeah, will do,
thanks

As nokiamodeln91 said, csc will remain. It won't cause any problems to have the csc set to anything other than Dbt.

no problem..except may be kies / ota updates.. but then u can always download the latest version from sammobile
Actually if you flash by pc odin or mobile odin the csc code is completely obsolete. It matters for ota/ kies updates only.

I totally agree. When I flashed XXLRT I got from sammobile, and never bothered with Kies again. PC Odin was more reliable, having more control with the download and flashing. The release of Germany updates is also sooner than Kies or OTA for other phone.

[Q] (help) understanding csc and changing csc

goodday xda!
I bought my phone online and turns out my csc is aut which is from switzerland. Now updates for this csc is very delayed. Its been almost a month since its jb release and still no word. I have no problems with waiting for their official release. But since im from the philippines, i was wondering if i can change my csc to here so that i can get updates from my country (jb has been released here already).
Ive tried changing my csc with the imei method in the dialer but there arent any csc listed there only AUTwhich is the default. Will factory resetting my phone enable me to change csc? I am currently running 4.0.4
Im all for rooting it but since my warranty expires in a month or so, i wish to find some way to update without the need to root yet.
Any help would be appreciated.
