Can this device the 4G one work on tmobile Hugh speed network? - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Probably not. T-Mobile's and ATTs 3g bands were different frequencies (1700mhz vs 850/1900). However, in some places T-mobile has started to use 1900mhz and unlocked ATT devices will work. This seems to be random right now and even T-mobile support may not be able to tell you where.
Or you can do what I did, and get nrvate's CM10 build for the i957 (I'm a noob so no links for me yet) then flash this radio: Tmo_SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio.zip (Google it). I get full HSPA+ and have clocked DL speeds up to 19000kbs. Of course YMMV, and no guarantees that it will work for you, won't brick your tab or kill your pets.

WHOA!, are you saying you are getting HSPA+ on TMobile!?
can you PM me a link how to do this. I have my tab rooted, but no roms installed yet. Do you have the links for the roms? What recovery are you using to flash?
Thanks!

Yeah it works well with the only problem being the power usage is rather high, and drains faster in idle. After looking at logcat I think this radio doesn't go into idle mode properly so keeps sucking power when not in use. Running it's a little less usage (maybe 30 min less) but on idle it drains in 24 hrs. Turning off 3g helps but for me I can live with this to get 20mb down. When ICS for the i957 finally shows up it should be possible to see a better radio get put in CM10 (which is still in early development, but that's what the ROM below is based on).
I'm using TWRP for recovery. After Clockwork being kind of wonky I have seen the light and use TWRP on all my devices. It just works.
The ROM is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867579 and go to post#2. There are some issues but it runs remarkably well for being like 3 weeks old.
This is the radio I used from a Galaxy SII. Google Tmo_SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio.zip and get it from Dev Host. I found out about it looking at radios for similar hardware and found that the Note is close so I took a chace and did it. So far so good!

This is great to hear. I am going to hold off for now, as I would have to open a TMobile account, and I really dont NEED to have this until I start traveling in a few months.
Now what would be AMAZING, is if somehow this tablet could work on verizon. I have a huge corporate account with them and it would cost me next to nothing to add the tablet to the account, assuming it would work. I didn't think it was possible, but then again, I didn't think TMobile high speed connection was possible either.
Any idea if there is a way to get this working on verizon? Or if anyone is even trying?

I can tell you that is impossible. T-Mobile uses GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. You can only put a SIM card device on GSM carriers (TMO and ATT).

I could not tell you as T-Mobile doesn't have LTE yet. TMO will use a band that the i957 can support, but it will probably take another radio (if any) to work. I've seen 21mb down from HSPA+ so even if I never see LTE I can't be too disappointed

Yes it is. The device was locked at ATT and AFAIK there is no other way other than going through a unlock service. I used cellunlocker.net. $25 and your IMEI gets you a code in a few hours.

As I said that is impossible because the carriers use incompatible setups. SIM card carriers (GSM) will only work with other SIM card carriers. Verizon uses CDMA with no SIM cards. The networks themselves are completely different and hardware cannot be hacked to work. Most of the world uses GSM with SIM cards and if you travel overseas, you'll need a GSM device to use unlocked devices on any networks. Blame Verizon for picking a standard that 80% of the world doesn't use

Has anyone tried flashing the tmobile high speed radio but on the current rooted stock ICS rom instead of the cm10 rom?
In other words, i have a stock rooted sgh-i957 on samsungs ICS rom and i want to be able to use tmobile high speed network (HSPA+). Does anyone know if thats possible?

Just installed king rom from following O3D post and it looks like it is working, not yet fully tested though.

very fast, smooth, no issues making and receiving calls, mounting and un-mounting SD etc
testing wifi and data connections now.
followed sames instructions as stated in king rom
rooted, with cwk recovery from LG thrill thread and loaded king rom and WOW
but being a new bee, need some one experienced to certify this.
thx.
Yup. I don't see any reason Optimus 3D roms wouldn't work seeing as this IS an Optimus 3D. You should be able to run Waterbear too lmao.

What an awesome name for a ROM
Only reason those roms wouldnt function correctly is the radios really.
Why wouldn't the radios work? GSM. Apns may not be be set up optimally in those roms but the radios should work fine I think.
Well the radio's in Europe use different Bands although these phones are technically world phones so I do see your point now that you mention it. Hmm that brings up another idea than, I wonder if the kernel's are the same. Also wonder if the Camera Mod they have over there would work.

Huh? Most carriers in Europe use the same bands as AT&T. I'm sure the camera mod would work, but in its current form it causes a few bugs. Force closes at the end of video recording sometimes and resolutions below 720p do not work with that mod I think. Maybe I'll attempt to make a similar mod but without the bugginess.
Well according to AT&T themselves.
GSM networks in North and South America operate at frequencies of 850 or 1900 MHz, while most networks in other countries operate at frequencies of 900 or 1800 MHz. AT&T also offers phones that operate on 3G technology at 2100 MHz to roam in Japan and South Korea. AT&T recommends quad band phones/devices for most international travelers. Since these wireless devices operate on all four of the international GSM frequencies, you ensure the broadest international coverage available.
So no not quite the same bands. But again considering our phones are world phones it's kinda a mute point I think.
I have tried King 3d and the the power froyo 1.5 everythign seems to work except I only get 3g speeds. So i bet once the radio is pulled form the thrill we will be in business. I will try some others and let you guys know what I find.

Yes but pretty much all modern GSM phones are quad band and support those same four frequencies. Just look up the specs for some European Android phones. Most support 850 and 1900 except for the few AWS carrier phones.

[Q] factory reset

hey guys quick question
i brought a at&t nexus1 off ebay. the seller mentioned it will can and only work on tmobile 2g [i am t-mobile],
my question is if i factory reset/wipe the nexus1, does it lose complete compability with tmobile?
Factory reset only wipe data. you can still use the phone with tmobile
and still 2g only
so flashing roms, kernels, recoveries and all that good stuff, in the end i will still be able to activate the phone aka [ google sign in at the beginning activation ] with a tmobile sim card?

There is two version of Nexus 1, one made for Tmobile frequency and one made for AT&T. While they are both sim unlock, you can put sim card from either carrier into the other and it will work as far as phone calls. For 3G support a Tmobile sim in a AT&T N1 will only work with 2G not 3G.

How is it T-mobile's fault? Their 3G work on a certain frequency. AT&T 3G work on a certain frequency. If you buy a phone that does not work on your carrier's frequency, it's the buyer's fault*.

yeah lol i dont even have data on my phone, so 2G / 3G doesnt even matter to me,
im just worried if it i factory/hard reset the phone, that the phone will "lock" back on AT&T.
but imo, since the N1 is carrier unlocked by nature, it will stay that way no matter what i do right?

You cannot change the operating frequency of the phone - it's a hardware limitation.

It'll be good if you actually read before making false statements and insisting on them.
Read the FAQ, question 13.
Nexus has 2 HW variants, with 2 different sets of 3 frequencies for each variant. The variants differ in HW and use exactly the same SW, including modem.

What US network are you on if you have unlocked note?

I saw a deal for an unlocked "world" version of the note and I am on TmoUS. So if I buy the note, will I be able to use my unlimited data plan with 3g or H? I am confused reading the forums on the att side and this one...they're saying I can only get edge? Because that would really suck.
I'm on tapatalk and can't do a decent search on xda via app so if this had been asked already, just point me to that thread and I will gladly have this one deleted. Also, the desire to get the unlocked note is a spur of the moment kinda thing since the deal is only available for one day. Btw, unlocked note is selling for 585 with shipping from 1saleaday.

that depends on the frequency of the 3g network in your area.
however, this is the first I've seen it mentioned that American t mobile has any other 3g bands than 700mhz.
So I'd say no, you most likely will not get 3g speeds.
The N7000 will only run on T-Mobile edge. If you want 4g you have to AT&T or Straight Talk.
This is true. T-Mobile Sucks! EDGE just blows and I am amazed anyone uses it.
Oh well. I am going to try straight talk in a few weeks to see if that is any better.
Well, EDGE is downright terrible...no one can argue that. If you want to use T-Mobile, you're better off getting the AT-T note, unlocking it, then installing the right modem files to use it on 3g/4g. I use T-Mobile myself, and decided to keep the Int. version...I think it's better, and the development community is WAY better, mainly because the device has been out longer. It's up to you really. Don't hope T-Mobile will be updating it's 1900mhz spectrum in your area anytime soon...it's a process I'm sure will take many years.

Yes they do number porting as long as it is not a at&t number because straight talk uses at&t network.
It sucks that it is more difficult to get the inter version to work on 3g or h on tmo. I did read that the inter version is better than att version and I do believe that development will be better with the inter version as it obviously covers more countries and it has been out longer. I really want this note but I'm just gonna wait a bit. I have a feeling those guys working on getting tmo to work on inter version will be able to do it. Wishful thinking probably but it is possible with all the talented devs out there. I guess I'm going to be on sensation for a while until tmo comes up with a phone as awesome as the note. Thanks for all the responses!!

FYI and I have heard of this issue before, Straight Talk gets varied reception in Metropolitian areas. Let me explain.
I have had ST for a few months now, on the NT7000. I have had zero issues.
A couple of caveats
DO NOT use more than 100mb/day or 2gb/month, whichever comes first. People have had their contracts terminated by ST for doing this. So not truly unlimited (but still more than decent deal). This is not a *hard* limit- I have done more without any issues by accident.
I get decent service in the suburb of NYC where I live (few tall buildings), actually much better service than Tmobile had.
However, in NYC itself, the service can be absolutely horrible depending on area. My guess for this phenomenon is that while you are on an ATT MVNO, this doesn't necessarily mean that you have the same roaming rights as regular ATT customers. In a metro area, roaming might be necessary to get signal in certain places.
My download speeds at 2gb down 1 up.
I would just buy a months' worth at first and try it out as prepaid, then port your number in.
From what I understand, you don't even need to buy the e71 like I did anymore

I do. I got it with the SGS II and ow with the Note. up to 3mbs download. Good enough. MediaNet is $10 a month unlimited, I don't use nearly 2GB maybe less than 1 as I am in WiFi most of the time. I am using a Cingular.wap setting. Its different than the "smartphone" APN but the speeds are the same (until LTE is available) I don't need LTE speeds on a phone. I don't even get those speeds at home on cable. maybe 7Mbs DL.

[Q] Moto X GSM Unlocked T-Mobile works outside the US?

Hi!
I'm planning to buy a customized Moto X unlocked GSM edition but I'm wondering if it'll work outside the US.
At Moto they don't know as "they haven't tried it". And is confusing as it says on their website that is GSM unlocked but comes with a t-mobile sim card, so it's unlocked to work with t-mobile and at&t only or also open to other compatible GSM networks around the world? Has anyone had the chance to try it?

Most phones shipped these days support most 2g/3g bands to support international roaming features. Say you're going to Europe, i wouldn't count on you getting anywhere near LTE speeds or even 4g speeds because there networks aren't that developed yet, put in simple terms, but there's a good chance that you can still get a supported 2g/3g connection, does that make sense? I would take it with me if i were you, no harm in that right?
moto x in Belgium
I got my T-mobile Moto X shipped to Belgium, it works on the local GSM networks.

We have 4G in our little East-European country, Romania (probably you never heard of it)

I heard of it What you can do is find out what network bands your cellphone company back in Romania uses and see if your phone supports it. There's a good chance your phone will support one of their bands though

They support it for 2G/3G, but not above. The bands are different for LTE.

3G is fast enough. As the 4G network is not fully developed (no full country coverage), and the prices are still high, I don't think it's really worth stressing too much about it. I ordered myself a MotoX from the states with a non-compatible LTE hardware just now. I know that I won't use that technology in a comfortable way anyways for the next 2 years. For my personal needs, 3G+ is more than enough.

Ya don't worry about it too much because it sounds like you're a casual user, mainly for emails and such I'm guessing? But anyways Lte speeds are really going to take off in the next couple years so you'll be in for a treat when you get back Happy Journey!

Well I could say casual user, I guess, but I use mostly wifi wherever I spend more time. Home, work, friends place, all have good wifi, so when I'm out, I switch to 3G, and in that time I don't really need super fast speeds.
Thanks.

Makes sense and the harm is like $430 haha and then the time n money to unlock it. But now anymore by knowing that some people had try it outside the US .
My worry was about if it's really unlocked as I'm buying it to use it in Ecuador most of the time. And when u buy it, it says that they give u a t-mobile sim card so that's confusing.
Bought it yesterday

Works outside the us!
If you want it...buy it because it works!! The NO CONTRACT MOTO X is fully unlocked!!
Comes with a t-mobile nano card but that's no problem...I guess if that I need it at the US someday, I will have to activate it.

Flash radios? No T-Mobile LTE

I have yet to get T-Mobile's lte on my unlocked HTC First. Does anyone know why? ( I have had 2 AT&T unlocked handsets running on lte in my area previously.)
Are there any different radios around I can flash? I am aware that the First and One Mini have nearly the same hardware. Could I try flashing a One Mini radio?
Thanks for the help.

I've also got my first with T-Mobile but all I can get is hspa+ yes we've got the necessary radios for LTE but the phone isn't programmed in a way that it can use them. You'll need a T-Mobile specific RUU for that. But our first is a at&t only handset so none is existent. Will something from the mini work? Maybe. But it's likely that you would end up with a brick. And I don't believe that a T-Mobile specific one exists. Go ahead an try it if you want tho and mess around with stuff but... Beware

They might have the same hardware but different radios so you have to check that

Damn... If I was aware of this before my purchase, I may have gone with a different device.
I don't think lte is worth a possible paperweight. Finding a way to enable lte doesn't seem like too difficult of a task - not that I really know what I'm talking about.
Thanks guys.
I'm on att
And Im off contract with no data. I get WiFi everywhere so... I pay 10 bucks a month for my self on a family plan...

Don't worry about it too much. Hspa+ speeds are great! I get an average of 8mbs down! But I'm in a completely refarmed area. Make sure to check on your device info whether you're getting hspa+ or umts as you might need a different APN. (Umts is 3g but shows up as 4g)
It's HSPA+. However, I live on the edge of the reframed area. In my city I get anywhere from .5 down, up to as high as 3MBs. On lte it was around 10-20 down.

Try these APN settings exactly. They got me an extra 2megs. And the refarming is extending rapidly. Not so long ago I got edge but now I've got great hspa+ everywhere. It will improve only who knows how long it'll take
Could someone test following build.prop settings on T-Mobile?
Don't forget to:
1. make backup of build.prop;
2. you must be s-off;
3. reboot after applying changes.
old -> new
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=14 -> ro.ril.hsdpa.category=24 (T-Mobile dual channel HSPA support)
ro.ril.ltefgi=1577974912 -> ro.ril.ltefgi=1578105984 (LTE features)
ro.ril.disable.lte.band2_5=1 -> ro.ril.disable.lte.band2_5=0 (LTE band 2 and 5, already =0 if you have latest radio)
ro.ril.att.feature=1 -> ro.ril.att.feature=0 (or remove)
EnableLTEBANDSCANPRI=1 -> EnableLTEBANDSCANPRI=0 (or remove)

1. Change max 4g speed;
2. Change LTE features bits, exact number comes from HTC one mini; also there's specific number from T-Mobile HTC one, can't find it right now;
3. Enable additional LTE bands, that maybe supported by T-Mobile;
4 and 5. Specific at&t settings.

Alright my device didn't soft brick and still gets data! Sadly I'm in a 2g only area right now so it'll be a while until I can report back with any results. Hoping this improves something!
Had time to test it out now and there's no difference. Or at least not very noticeable so I returned to stock settings
I also didn't notice any difference. Thanks tho.
a little difference
i went from 10 mb up and 1 down to
15 mb up and 3 down so ill take it
now if some one can help me get 4g lte on this thing that would be great cause i cant figure it out
Could you please verify that your t-mobile sim works with LTE network in other t-mobile phones? Maybe problem in sim cart, cause LTE bands 2 and 4 that used by t-mobile are supported by this phone.

And what the reason of speed increase? Please share.
