not registered on network - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have recently updated the firmware on my n7000 from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 and ever since I have not been able to make calls or go on internet
Network - unknown
Service state - Out of service
Mobile network state - Disconnected
Next to my battery icon top right of my phone I do have 4 signal bars which change from time to time displaying 2 or 3 or 4
the MD5's I have tried using ODIN are
N7000XXLRI_N7000OXXLP8_N7000XXLRB_HOME.tar.md5
N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_N7000XXLRB_HOME.tar.md5
Vodafone have confirmed it is NOT blocked by IMEI
What can I do to determine if it is infact blocked by EMEI
Thanks
EFC

you can check your emei, in your phone, settings, about phone, then status. Is it the same as when you bought phone?
you can check your apn settings, are they as provider prescribes?
When reboot does your phone ask for sim pin?

No sim pin
How do I check emei and apn??, is it a classic sign of emei block when not registered on network??

nope if phone doesnt ask you to authenticate sim pin, then it wont register on network.
Fix is easy, try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25953317
Added how to check emei, dial *#06#, is another way. If its original, see behind battery then thats not issue.
Apn, I'll go into that after you tried Lance Uppercuts method and rebooted
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

I found the apn settings and enabled use packet data, data roaming, clicked on access point names and ha 1 listed which is 3 so i selected that
network mode is set to gsm\wcdma auto mode
network operators.........searching........for ages!! then i get
3
3
vodafone uk
02 - uk
t-mobile uk
clicking on either of the 3 networks says........unable to connect try again later

switch data roaming off, youbmight get extra costs. Apnbsettings should match your providers.
If lances method didnt work after reboot, see post above, delete apn, reboot, register on your mobile network, check apn with providers, or have provider resend it. Some times you can do this yourself from providers website

i have to be rooted to follow this, wat is quickest method i dont have a sd card installed

- Download "Terminal Emulator" app from market
- open it
- type into the command:
su
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
Go to home, force close your terminal app, shut your screen off, and when your turn it back on your lock screen should be there.
Obviously you must be rooted the "su" command.
can someone pliz elaborate on typing su into the command
i have /$ when i type su it shows
/$su
The selected command does not exist

just download the one with busybox and try to install it from stock recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841288
use update zip option and save it on internal sd Should be pickable.
Remember your on unsafe kernel, dont wipe factory reset at all.
Getting into recovery is tricky: switch off phone, immediately
volume up, home button and power button at the same time keep pressed and after reboot its in recovery mode. Navigate with volume buttons and confirm selection with power button

Downloaded it and installed as you said
The program Terminal Deluxe tells me that it has been granted super user permission when I start it
But it still says...
/$su
The Selected command does not exist
I am simply typing the first line "su" straight after the "/$"
Is this correct?

Just to add more info
I put a Vodafone SIM into this phone and it got an E data connection but no calls
Whereas when I put my 3 SIM card in I get no data or calls
Does this give any clues????

press 'enter' on your Note's keyboard... Everytime you type something on the Terminal Emulator app, you have to press enter after.. (just like what you would normally do on Windows Command prompt (DOS) mode option.

I dont have an ENTER key on my note keyboard, I do have a DONE button which is what I am pressing

if pressing DONE accomplishes the same process of executing the command 'SU' then that's all good still.
So where you able to execute the other command after 'su'?

[Q] New to this "rooting process" please help

I'm Fairly savvy with computes and technology this has me at hump
what i have
Usb coard
Sd Card
G1 Phone
Windows 7
Q.A) how do i know what model stock version i have on my G1? ( I AM stuck at the google activation screen, so i can't go in and check
B. I downloaded everything i need to, Drivers and on my device manager i see ADB device and it shows HTC Dream
C. My SD Card is not showing up or is grayed out almost as if the g1 is not even reconginzing it.
I really can't do anything as far as rooting without a sd card, so how do i make my phone reconginze it?
U have to activate it I think to be able to mount your sdcard to the computer or to get the info for your phone so start there. Then I beloved holding volume down and power will get u the info. When u plug your phone in u have to pull down from top of phone and click mount to get SD on computer

Call them or go on the web and order an activation kit, they'll mail it to you.
alright man im help you out get passed that jus follow these instructions
But what you can do is check your hboot and what bored you have!
power down and hold camera buttong and press power
keep it held down till you see 3 tri colors, and make sure your hboot is not 1.33.005 or something along those lines
if its at 0.005.00 something then you can use the Dreaimg and go down and then use these instructions to get passed it then do the telnet root, and from there follow root instructions
if you have white screen with 3 skateboarding androids and hboot 1.33.2005 then you have (death SPL) but im sure your still on stock hboot and all but you can check what bored you have and grab the right Dreaimg for your phone
First, You must have either RC29 or earlier, or modded RC30. It won't work with official RC30, sorry. If you don't know for sure what version you have, but you know you haven't installed a modified RC30 build, then the easiest way to check is to reboot the phone, and once it starts up and is showing the "click the android to begin" screen, or the "no sim card" screen, then type the following on the phone keyboard
<enter>reboot<enter>
If it reboots, then you have RC29 or ealier. Otherwise you have RC30.
Second, you must have adb installed on your computer, and have the USB drivers installed, or at least ready to install when it asks for the driver when you connect the G1. See this page for details on how to get adb working: http://code.google.com/android/intro...devicehardware
Third, you must have a wifi network that you can connect to.
There are too many possibilities to write specific step-by-step instructions for every case. So I will give an overview of the process instead. If someone else wants to write some specific instructions, that would be welcome
-----------
When you start up the phone without a sim card, it goes into a locked screen that says "no sim card found", and you can't even get into the registration app. So the first step is to get around that screen. You have to connect to your phone with adb shell and get root access, and then type the following command:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO system (name, value) VALUES ('device_provisioned', 1);"
And then reboot the phone. When it starts up again it will go into the registration screen instead of the locked "no sim card" screen.
This assumes that you have the sqlite3 binary on your phone. This binary is provided in RC30 v1.2. Alternatively, you could manually copy the binary to your phone with adb push, or put it on the sdcard and copy it to your phone. I can post a copy of just the sqlite3 binary if needed.
-----------
The second step is to enable and configure wifi, so that the registration process can connect to the google servers. In an adb shell session, type the following command:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings
This doesn't have to have root access to work. It works fine with the "shell" user that adb on non-modded phones runs as.
That command will bring up the settings page on your phone. From there, you can enable wifi and connect to your wifi network, and then proceed with registration as per normal

[Q] NO 3G after UNBRICKING... :(

being stupid and messing around with rom manager somehow i had deleted my
stock flash of the 1.6... so it installed a rom that worked but when i went to connect to the cricket network with the *228 it gave me verizon wirless.... then i tried to install my backup flash...thats when i bricked the phone... after a few hours i was able to get froyo back on my phone and the only thing that doesnt work is the 3G!!! my download speed is only around 130kb or so.....!!!!!!! anyway her are my network settings. if anyone knows how to fix or change these settings it would be greatly appreciated!!!
FIXD UNROOT B 4 programming!!!
alot of people seem to get there zio's bricked unbricking was easy after figuring it out unstead of the hard reset i got the phone into the modem update mode by holding down both volume buttons and the end or some combination from there was able to use my pc to do the froyo update via usb....

yeah i tried that first off dialing the *228 it gives me an error..... the phone works but the signal is extremely worse than usual..... after restoring the phone my number works from the phone just a horrible signal and no 3G! i just bought the phone hopefully cricket will help me out if not TIME for a real droid!!!
Since you altered recovery, you voided and warranty / liability with cricket.
Expect to pay for them to service your phone.
Depending on the intelligence of the Rep examining ur phone, you may be able to get away with it. Just don't mention anything about altering ur phone in any way.

as far as the data goes.... after the unroot and reprogramming my 3g came back and all seems well....except for the download speed is slim to none on any download over 600kb or so....html or browsing the internet no problem on 3g...streaming youtube on 3g is pointless... does youtube load quickly for anyone? or even load a 2 min video without pausing? on wifi no problem works great....
There is obviously something wrong with phone's 3G reception. Hopefully that spz0 can figure out a perm fix or otherwise take it to cricket rep. Play dumb and blame the brick on the OTA froyo update and don't mention anything about rooting.

K. I'm going to give some instructions here. Very Clear. Follow them to the letter and you shouldn't have any problems or have to ask any questions.
**note: You'll need ADB on your PC for this.
I _think_ if you download and install the M6000 Drivers provided by the tethered update process, it may install ADB.
Try that method first, reboot your PC, connect your phone and you should be able to open up a command prompt and type:
Code:
adb devices
Your phone should list under devices as a bunch of numbers/letters.
If that doesnt work, follow Androids instructions to install the Android SDK and continue these instructions.
**remember to ad the adk path to your environment variables path section (as described in the setup of SDK on the Android site). This will allow you to run ADB without having to navigate to the folder it is installed in.**
YOUR PHONE NEEDS TO BE ROOTED FOR THIS PROCESS.
1)Download the following files:
Stock 2.2 Recovery Image
http://www.mediafire.com/?9zqvczb92r22qg1
flash_image (needed to flash recovery)
http://www.mediafire.com/?pc52nfnb185m768
2) Copy those files to the ROOT of your SDCard.
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Open up a command prompt and type the following:
Code:
adb devices
Your phone should be listed as a connected device (bunch of numbers/letters)
Code:
adb shell
su
**make sure your phones display is turned on and you accept the superuser request on your phone.
5) Once you obtain root (your "$" changes to "#"), type the following:
Code:
cat /sdard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
6) Next, type the following:
Code:
cd system/bin
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
This will flash the stock recovery to your recovery partition.
7) Next, type:
Code:
exit
exit
**yes, thats exit twice. This will get you out of the phones shell
8) Next, factory reset your phone. Type the following:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Your phone should reboot, wipe data/cache and reboot into a stock image.
9) Dial *228
10) Profit.
**if you are still roaming after reboot, you will have to perform a factory reset (menu->settings->privacy->factory data reset) to revert to crickets APN.
I can't make it any more clear than this, so if this does not work for you, then I suggest re-installing the tethered upgrade to reflash all your partitions to stock.
ALTERNATE METHOD
You may also do this from fastboot.
Instead of using "flash_image" provided above, just download the stock 2.2 recovery image, put it in your SDK "/tools" directory (where your fastboot exe is located). Power on into fastboot (end and send keys simultaneously), open a command prompt and navigate to your SDK/tools/ directory then type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Once your phone reboots to your OS, perform a factory data reset (menu->settings->privacy->factory data reset) to revert to crickets APN.
Worked very easy even with windows 7 have had no problems doing any droid related tasks with this os...the reflash worked still network problem went to the cricket store after unrooting phone these guys didn't notice anything out of the ordinary couldn't believe it anyways he said 20 bux for a new one...

You need a HyperTerminal or other Terminal app that can connect to modem on COM port and run AT commands.
1. Connect phone by USB (phone should be on normally)
2. Enter 3845#*970# in dialer
3. Select Port Settings -> Select CP USB
4. Start hyperterminal, in COM settings select same port like in devide manager -> LGE mobile USB Serial Port, 115200bps
5. Type AT if response is not OK, change port number
6. Type at%imei, it should display your current IMEI
7. Type at%imei=x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x , where x,x,x... is your orginal IMEI number
8. Change again from CP USB -> AP USB
8. Restart
You should know that in many countries changing IMEI is illegal!

I have the same exact problem and don't know what to do about it. I don't think you can get root as that's not really a terminal??
EDIT: i just got it to work. 2 things I did differently 1) turned off airplane mode. 2) didn't change the baud rate setting to match the one in the lg mobile modem details. probably airplane mode was the problem though . Also, I used the commas, but not one at the end.

[Q] CP

I played around with smartflash yesterday and i checked the 'erase entire cp' which will erase my imei , thinking that it would unlock me full market access because the play store checks the imei to determine the country restrictions . when the phone booted up, it showed a strange korean message which i could not read and the only english letters were 'CP' . i think that had to do with me checking the 'erase entire cp'. now, where ever i go there is no signal , i think my phone is blacklisted because it did not have a imei . is there any way to flash a imei to my phone ?
Well I had to do this when my phone got security error. I found a tutorial in XDA, sorry I'm at school so I can't search it for you but I had to use Hyperterminal (try to Google : restore imei hyperterminal xda).

So, you need to switch usb mode from AP to CP from hidden menu 3845#*970#. Then when you create a new connection choose com 24 or smth like that. it will work! just try more.

I now know what caused the problems! It was because i did not disable my sim security before i flashed the ics rom so my phone doesn't recognises the umts network after i flashed it .But after i flashed another gb rom, the problem becomes like pemanent or some sort of thing...............phone still cannot call........The problem most likely had to do with one of the ics roms and part of the problem should be of the 'erase entire cp' thing

[HELP!] Half-bricked my Droid 3

I've had a Droid 3 for a little under a year now. For the past few months I was having an 'issue' where the phone would not vibrate when I got an SMS message. Apparently this is a known issue caused by installing a non-stock SMS app from the app-store. I took it to the Verizon store and the guy put in a request for a replacement phone. He knew I'd rooted it and just said to make sure I unroot it, uninstall the bootloader, and factory reset before sending it in. I did all 3 things however the reset didn't reset my custom boot animation so I figured I'd activate the phone real quick, reroot, change that, and unroot. I started the activation process and I get to the "Add Accounts" screen, added my Google account, and hit Done. It asks about location services, I hit "Next" and then com.motorola.setup crashes and I have to force close. If I hit the Home button it takes me right back to the "add accounts" screen and I'm stuck in that infinite loop. I can still receive texts and reply to them from the notifications menu, I can send and receive phone calls with voice commands, I can access the browser, but that's about it. I cannot get to the home screen and I cannot open the settings 'app'.
I brought it back to the Verizon store and they were baffled, told me that Verizon would probably charge me full retail for the replacement if I sent this once back, so I sent back the replacement phone and am stuck with this one now.
I think what caused this is that I had the 'Bloat Freezer' app installed and I had frozen a bunch of the default Verizon apps. I didn't unfreeze them before the factory reset and I have a feeling that's what's causing the issue. I had the idea to re-root the phone and install Bloat Freezer again from the Play store but the Play store isn't recognizing my Droid 3 anymore.
Any suggestions?
Factory reset is a deceiving term. It resets it to factory user data (none) and settings. It doesn't restore the system. What you need is an SBF to flash the entire phone to factory software, overwriting all partitions. First though, you must find which system you had. Since you didn't recently get this phone, did you accept an OTA update within the last month or so? If so, head over to the Dev area and download the stickied SBF file to return you from .906 to .890. If not, there is an SBF in the General area called Quick Unbrick or something like that.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I'll give this a try when I get home from work tonight. Do you know if there's any way to tell what version I need without the settings app? Or perhaps if there's a way to forcibly open the Settings app?
If you've had your D3 for over a year and have not updated to .906, then you'll need .890. The .906 update is fairly recent (a couple months old I think?) so if you don't explicitly remember taking it, use .890.
Side note, check the rom you used before this happened. Check if it's based on .906 or .890.

Do you know if you enabled USB debugging? (from settings->applictaions->development - check "USB debugging" on.) Many root apps require that.
Anyway, if you did, you can install the Android SDK's adb app and, from a command prompt, you can try to type the following command (with the phone on and cabled to the computer)
adb shell cat /system/build.prop | grep "version"
This should show you a bunch of lines, one of which will be "ro.build.version.full". The system version follows that text on the line - I have last month's OTA, so mine is Blur_Version.5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US (so I have 5.7.906).
You can most easily get adb (for Windows) with instructions from here: http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
After you get those files unzipped in c:\android, you can start a command prompt by hitting start, type "cmd" and enter in the search box - this will start a black command prompt window. From there, enter the command cd \android and then enter the adb command I put up above.
I'm not sure it will work, but it should.
You can bypass the activation. Starting with the top left corner, press each corner in a clockwise rotation. This will bring your phone to the home screen so you can then find which version it's on.

What USB mode should the phone be in for this to work? I definitely had USB Debugging on before I did the factory reset; would that reset it though? When I try the command (minus grep, i'm in Windows unfortunately) I get 'error: device not found'

I had tried this but it still brought me straight to the "Add Accounts" screen, not to the home screen.

You can grep: because you are running a shell command, I believe it is running on the phone, not on the windows computer.
(The grep is not all that critical, though, as I believe the version number line is one of the last lines displayed by that command.)
You can do an:
adb devices
before you run the shell command to verify that the computer and phone are communicating; it should return a line of characters that represents your phone, if it is connected.
